We must also applaud the efforts of those who create, modify and compile patches into sets for our listening enjoyment. I feel quite lucky that as a GUS MAX owner I can choose between many sets of patches that people have put out. I can pick and choose instruments from each set that I like and don't like. We must keep in mind, while auditioning and evaluating patch sets, that each person has not only different musical tastes but (most likely) different stereo equipment as well. Some equipment may cause some patches to sound better than others. Other equipment may hide problems with a patch that sounds terrible on another's setup. I set up the sound to use the GUS settings, but when the game starts, it shows the DOS4/GW loading screen, then it locks up my computer with a small colored line across the top of the screen. I have tried loading nothing but the GUS environment variables, ultrinit, and other basic DOS programs (MOUSE, DOSKEY, and the cd-rom drivers). But, it still locks up. My system is an Am486DX4-100 with 12mb RAM, Sony CDU-33a CD-ROM and the GUS Max. BTW, I tried playing it on a Pentium 120 (16mb) with a Mitsumi quad-speed drive and a SB AWE32. It worked perfectly. Is this a common problem with the GUS, or is it something in my setup? Anyone had the same problem? Any word on if Gravis will make (has made) the deadline? 4 days and counting.... Neil Here is a text of the GRAVIS OFFICIAL ANSWER, received by fax (11,October,95). - ----------------------------------------------------------------- This is a message to our customers about Advanced Gravis and Windows 95 drivers for the UltraSound family of wavetable sound cards. We want to clarify what the situation is today and what you can expect in the future. We announced a first version of full 32-bit, Windows'95 specific drivers in September. Although these drivers were created, they were not of sufficient quality to release and are being reworked. Our current schedule is as follows. On Dec.22, we will release Windows'95 compatible driver for the UltraSound. These drivers will be fully integrated into the Windows'95 interface and will have all the functionality of the current Windows 3.1 drivers. On January 26, we issue an upgrade which will add "DOS box" functionality. In the meantime, we wish to remind UltraSound users that the currently available drivers (for Windows 3.1) will work under Windows'95. They can be installed in the usual way in MS-DOS mode through the start/Shutdown..menu option. We appreciate the support that our customers have shown for UltraSound, particulary through the Internet and the Commercial On-line Services.
