Talladega National Forest, Alabama, 1994 Photograph by Ian C. Martin
Sunlight filters through fall foliage in Alabama's Talladega National
Forest. The forest is home to Cheaha Mountain, part of the southern
Appalachian Mountains and, at 2,407 feet (900 meters), Alabama's
highest peak.

(Text adapted from and photograph shot on assignment for, but not
published in, the National Geographic Book Guide to Scenic Highways and
Byways, 1994) RELATED
