In the Canadian Rockies, hideaways range from remote campsites to world-class resortsall set amid superlative mountain scenery. In the early 19th century, the Rockies were considered a nuisance, a formidable barrier to the goal of economic expansion. The mountain core formed by the national parksincluding Banff, Jasper, Yoho, and Kootenaywas designated in 1985 as a world heritage area.
