A couple celebrate with a kiss after a mud volleyball game at a county fair. Writer John McCarry traveled around the United States visiting fairs. He commented that “whether in farm country or in areas with more diverse economies, almost all of these fairs thrived as local people got together to reward one another for their small accomplishments, to celebrate their subtle regional differences, and to gently compete.”
