October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Have you hugged your breast -- or the breast of someone close to you -- this month?

The following is an excerpt from a press release from WhiteHouse.gov, dated October First, 2002.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, GEORGE W. BUSH, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim October 2002 as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. I call upon government officials, businesses, communi-ties, health-care professionals, educators, volunteers, and all the people of the United States to publicly reaffirm our Nation's strong and continuing commitment to controlling and curing breast cancer.

Here's a story and video from CBS: New Approach Gives Cancer Patients Hope

"I looked at it like, 'let's attack it,'" says Stephanie Grimes, who was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer.

Doctors at the Johnson Cancer Center at UCLA recommended she try an experimental combination of Herceptin and Avastin, without chemotherapy. This approach is highly experimental and not for everyone, but Grimes' response was dramatic.

"Literally, it kept going away," she says.

The American Cancer Society of course has info on their site about breast cancer.

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is a noncompetitive walk to help fight breast cancer and provide hope to people facing the disease. Your participation will support the American Cancer Society's lifesaving research, prevention, early detection, and support programs for thousands of patients and their families

The government, as always, has their hands on everything, and breasts are no exception.

National Cancer InstituteThe National Cancer Institute (NCI) is a component of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), one of eight agencies that compose the Public Health Service (PHS) in the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). The NCI, established under the National Cancer Act of 1937, is the Federal Government's principal agency for cancer research and training.

Finally, on the Breast Cancer Site,

Your click on the "Fund Free Mammograms" button helps fund free mammograms, paid for by site sponsors whose ads appear after you click and provided to women in need through the efforts of the National Breast Cancer Foundation to low-income, inner-city and minority women, whose awareness of breast cancer and opportunity for help is often limited.

Remember, the breast you save could be your own. For me, as far as Breast Cancer Awareness, I have to say that two out of three isn't bad.
