Aewan is a curses-based program that
allows for the creation and editing of
ASCII art. The user is able to move the
cursor around the screen by means of
the arrow keys and "paint" characters
by pressing the corresponding keys.
There are dialog boxes that allow the
user to choose foreground and
background colors, as well as bold and
blink attributes. The user may also
select rectangular areas of the canvas
in order to move, copy, and paste them.
Aewan also supports "intelligent"
horizontal and vertical flipping (e.g.,
it converts "\" to "/", etc). What sets
Aewan apart from similar projects is
the fact that it can work with multiple
layers and has the ability to turn
transparency and visibility on and off
for each layer. A layer dialog is
provided through which the user can
change the order of the layers. Thus,
each layer can be edited independently
in order to generate a composite
drawing. Instead of using the layers |

Blender is the in-house software of a
high quality animation studio. It has
proven to be an extremely fast and
versatile design instrument. The
software has a personal touch, offering
a unique approach to the world of three
dimensions. Blender can be used to
create TV commercials, to make
technical visualizations or business
graphics, to do some morphing, or to
design user interfaces. Developers can
easily build and manage complex
environments. The renderer is versatile
and extremely fast. All basic animation
principles (curves and keys) are
implemented. |

breve is a 3D simulation environment
designed for the simulation of
decentralized systems and artificial
life. While the concept is similar to
existing packages such as Swarm and
StarLogo, the implementation, which
simulates both continuous time and
continuous 3D space, is quite
different. It also includes an
experimental physics engine, allowing
the user to implement real-time
physical simulations. Simulations are
written in a simple object-oriented
language called "steve". Users define
an agent's behavior by specifying how
the agent interacts with the world at
each timestep and how the agent
interacts when it collides with other
agents. The ultimate goal of the system
is to allow decentralized simulations
to be implemented quickly and easily
while providing a sophisticated set of
object classes and libraries to
facilitate the construction of advanced
artificial life simulations. |

Monit is a utility for managing and
monitoring processes, files,
directories, and devices on a Unix
system. It conducts automatic
maintenance and repair and can execute
meaningful causal actions in error
situations. It can be used to monitor
files, directories, and devices for
changes, such as timestamps changes,
checksum changes, or size changes. It
is controlled via an easy to configure
control file based on a free-format,
token-oriented syntax. It logs to
syslog or to its own log file and
notifies users about error conditions
via customizable alert messages. It can
perform various TCP/IP network checks,
protocol checks, and can utilize SSL
for such checks. It provides an HTTP(S)
interface for access. |

Moodss is a modular monitoring application,
which supports operating systems (Linux, UNIX,
Windows, etc.), databases (MySQL, Oracle,
PostgreSQL, DB2, ODBC, etc.), networking (SNMP,
Apache, etc.), and any device or process for
which a module can be developed (in Tcl, Python,
Perl, Java, and C). An intuitive GUI with full
drag'n'drop support allows the construction of
dashboards with graphs, pie charts, etc., while
the thresholds functionality includes warning by
emails and user defined scripts. Any part of the
visible data can be archived in an SQL database
by both the GUI and the companion daemon, so
that complete history over time can be made
available from Web pages, common spreadsheet
software, etc. |

Magic Rescue scans a block device for
file types it knows how to recover and
calls an external program to extract
them. It looks at "magic bytes" in file
contents, so it can be used both as an
undelete utility and for recovering a
corrupted drive or partition. It works
on any file system, but on very
fragmented file systems it can only
recover the first chunk of each file.
These chunks are sometimes as big as
50MB, however. |

nutrient composition. The database
included is the USDA Nutrient Database
for Standard Reference, Release 16-1,
which contains 6,661 foods and 125
nutrients. This database contains
values for vitamins, minerals, fats,
calories, protein, carbohydrates,
fiber, etc., and includes the essential
polyunsaturated fats, Omega-3 and
Omega-6. Nutrient levels are expressed
as a percentage of the Daily Value, the
familiar standard of food labeling in
the United States, but also can be
fully customized. Foods can be added
from recipes or food labels, and
nutrient intake can be graphed. The
program is completely menu-driven and

optionally send email to an administrator.
Osiris also has preliminary support for
monitoring other system data, including user
