Echelon v1.16.20r P1-K6x Patch

About This Patch.

This patch corrects an error in instant action missions that does not allow the player to make repairs.

This patch also allows for installation on computers equipped with Pentium 1 or AMD K6 (provided they meet the other minimum requirements) and automatically corrects the error in instant action missions.

Installing the patch for a previous installation:

1. Extract "EchelonP1K6xPatch.exe" to any folder (for example C:\Temp) by running this program.

2. Locate the Patch.exe file in the folder you extracted the Echelon patch1.zip file into. If your computer is equipped with a Pentium II/III/4/Celeron/Xenon or AMD Athlon processor and have installed the game, simply run Patch.exe and it will automatically find the installation directory.

Using the patch to install Echelon on Pentium 1 and AMD K6 processors:

Note: This process will involve copying files from the game disc to your hard-drive, so please ensure that you have a minimum of 1.4GB of free hard-disk space during this process. If you do not have enough free space on your hard drive, try emptying your Recycle Bin and/or eliminating temporary or unwanted files.

1. Copy the game files and folders from the Echelon CD-ROM to a folder on your hard disk. To do this, create a new directory on your hard drive (for example C:\E-TEMP). Once you have created your directory use Windows Explorer and browse to the CD-ROM drive where Echelon is located. If you use Windows 95/98/ME, click "Tools" and then Click "Folder Options". If "Folder Options" is not there, click "View" and then "Folder Options". Once the "Folder Options" window is open, click the Tab "View". Some options will appear below. Click the small circle for "Show All Files" and then click Apply and then click OK. If you use Windows 2000, click "Tools" and then "Folder Options". Click the Tab "View" and from the options below, click the small circle for "Show hidden files and folders" and then click the checkbox for "Hide Protected Operating System Files" so the checkbox disappears. Click Apply and then OK. Select all the files by using either Ctrl+A, or by clicking Edit, and then "Select All". Copy these files to the directory you just created.

2. Once copying is complete, open the folder on your hard-disc where Echelon is located. Use Ctrl+A to select all of the files in this directory. With all the files selected, right click on one of the files and select properties from the menu. Remove the checkbox from the read-only selection.

3. Extract "EchelonP1K6xPatch.exe" to the temp folder you created to hold the disc files by running this program. Once extraction is complete, the patch will be launched. The first dialogue box should automatically default to the folder holding the game disc files. If it does not... Click the small button with 3 dots (...) and the browse Dialog box will appear. Browse to the temp folder holding the disc files on the hard drive, and then click Open. Now, click the OK button on the patch window and the patch will make the necessary adjustments.

4. When the patch is finished a folder labeled "P1 K6x" will appear in the C:\E-TEMP directory. Copy ALL files from "C:\E-TEMP\P1 K6x" to C:\E-TEMP. When prompted whether to replace existing files, click "Yes to All."

5. Set up the game by running "game.exe" from this folder (C:\E-TEMP) and install Echelon in the final directory of your choice.

6. Run the file CDSelect.exe located in the "P1 K6x" folder and point the path to your CD-ROM drive where the original Echelon game CD-ROM is located. Now, go back into "Setup" and click the button "Data location". If you have closed the setup dialog box, you can reopen it by running "game.exe" from your final directory, NOT from C:\E-TEMP. Click the Browse button for "Secondary Path." Browse to the Echelon CD and select the "Data" folder on the CD. Click OK. Click Ok on the Setup window to save the changes made.

7. Once you've selected your setup options and run the game you can safely delete the temporary folder (C:\E-TEMP) from your hard-drive.

8. To start the game in the future, insert the CD and wait for the error message. Acknowledge the error, and then use the Echelon shortcut on your desktop to start the game or by running "game.exe" from your final install directory.
