 v0.1 (11/06/2002) published (13/06/2002)
------------------------------------------
Began the FAQ. I'm about 95% though one map and over 180% through the other.
Wrote out as much as I could in about six hours :)
Began the Walkthrough. I'm going through the game again because I got stuck,
so hopefully this time i'll actually be able to complete it!
Did all the sections on spellbooks, relics, enemies and so on from my
(almost) completed save file. Man did that take time! :)

1.3 - Introduction to White Night Concerto
--------------------------------------------

"Castlevania: White Night Concerto" for the Gameboy Advance has to be one of
my favourite Castlevania games. It's fast, has some great RPG elements to
it, and just overall seems to play better than the previous GBA game, Circle
 of the Moon.

You play as Justin Belmont (or as it states on your status screen "Juste
Belmondo"). He looks suspiciously like Alucard from the Playstation and
Saturn hit, Symphony of the Night, but this time wearing red and bradishing
 a rather nifty whip.

As your talking with your friend outside Count Dracula's castle (I don't
know his name as my Japanese is rather limited to say the least), he keels
over and you gain control of Justin for one of the most fun Castlevania
 games ever made. :)

NB: I'll be adding more to this introduction and so on once I feel there is
     a need to.

=============================================================================

 2.0 - General Game System
---------------------------

Think of White Night Concerto as a platform game and you'd be wrong. Think
of it as an RPG and you'd be wrong. Think of it as a platfoRPG and you'd be
 getting there...

The majority of gameplay in WNC involves the standard platform principles -
you run, jump, and destroy enemies, before beating a boss and proceding
onwards. However with WNC there is a little bit more to it. There are no
"levels" in WNC. The entire game is all linked together, with different
areas simply separated by doors, usually blocked by a boss. You can return
to an area anytime you like, as some areas are unreachable at first, only to
be reachable later when you've collected the appropriate item or pressed the
 corresponding switch.

WNC features many RPG elements to it, which helps even more to distinguish
it from traditional platform games. You can collect items to use to
replenish health and magic, clothing or armour for your character to beef up
their defence, keys to go through locked doors, and so on. There are items
which help inform you (such as showing how much damage you cause) and some
which increase your abilities (such as double jumping). Only by finding and
collecting these items can you proceed further or enter previously
 inaccesible areas.

Be prepared for puzzles, traps, dangerous enemies and many other challenges
as you travel through the castle on your quest.

=============================================================================

 2.1 - Controls
----------------

The controls of WNC are pretty similar to those of COTM (Circle of the
Moon). Get used to them because you'll be needing quick reflexes to complete
some of the more difficult areas and battling enemies. Special moves will be
 listed in the next section.

Digital Pad: Used to move your character. Pressing down will make him
duck. Pressing up will do nothing on its own, but if you
press B whilst holding up Justin will throw whichever sub
                weapon he is holding.

Also moves your cursor in the menu.

A Button: Makes Justin jump. Hold longer for a higher jump.

             Also confirms menu actions.

B Button: Justin attacks with his whip. Hold for a second and the whip
will go limp - pressing the directional pad will make him swing
             the whip in that direction.

             Also cancles menu actions.

L Button: Justin will dash to the left. Press rapidly to keep his speed
             up.

R Button: Justin will dash to the right. Press rapidly to keep his speed
             up.

NOTE: The L and R buttons will make Justin dash in those directions - it
doesn't matter which direction Justin is facing, L makes him go
left, R makes him go right.

Select: Brings up the map screen. When you have access to both dimensions,
L and R will switch the maps between them.

Start: Pauses the game and brings up the status screen.

The controls can be altered at any time by pausing the game and chosing "Key
 Config" in the menu screen.

=============================================================================

 2.2 - Justin's Moves
----------------------

Dash: Pressing L or R will cause Justin to dash left or right respectively.
Dashing is integeral to the game - it will help you avoid attacks,
traps and other things. Plus it will allow you to travel round the
         castle much faster.

Attack: Pressing B will make Justin attack. Holding down B will make his
whip go limp, and you can then press the directional buttons to
make it flail about (like Super Castlevania IV).

Jump: Press A to jump. The longer you hold, the higher you jump.

Double jump: Only available when you have the feather. Justin can jump and
                then jump again in midair.

Jump kick: After you double jump, press down + A to kick downwards. Useful
for killing enemies, plus if you hit one you can jump again
              after bouncing off. :)

Slide: Only available after you get the gecko relic. Press Down to duck,
then press A to make Justin slide forward. Used to get under small
gaps and can also be used to attack.

Super jump: Only available when you get the wing. Press Down, Up + A
quickly and Justin will shoot up into the air. If he connects
with a ceiling he will stick to it for a second. You can
string super jumps together to gain a vast amount of height in
               a short amount of time.

Extra weapon: Press Up and B to throw your subweapon.

Magic: Activate a magic book, then press Up and B to use magic. The magic
is dependant on the element and the sub-weapon. See section 5.2 -
          "Spellbooks" for more information.

=============================================================================

 2.3 - The Map
---------------

Pressing the Select button will bring up map. This shows the rooms you have
covered, and if you have the appropriate item will also show the whole of
the current area (including rooms you haven't visited). The map is colour
coded to help you locate certain rooms:

Red: This is a save room. You can save your game and replinish your
health and magic in these rooms.

Yellow: These rooms contain teleporters. Some rooms teleport
you to different areas of the castle, and some teleport you
between dimensions. The map does not distinguish between these
           different types.

Gray: Rooms you have yet to visit in the original dimentsion are coloured
         gray.

Blue: Rooms you have visited in the origianl dimension are coloured blue.

Light Blue: Rooms you have visited in the alternate dimension appear in
               light blue.

Green: A room you have visited in one dimension but not in the other is
          coloured green.

The map also shows the dimension you are in (written in Japanese in the top
left corner) and the percentage of the map you have completed (in the top
 right corner).

=============================================================================

 2.4 - Status Screen
---------------------

The Status Screen shows all the information you need on your character's
health, magic, hearts, your current level and experience, how long you've
been playing the game and so on. It also allows you to access various
sections such as your equipment, items, spellbook, relics and others.

Your name is displayed in the top right (Juste Belmondo), and your image is
also displayed, along with your current Spellbook.

  LEVEL: Your current level.

EXP: Your current amount of experience. Defeating enemies will add to your
experience and increase your level, making you stronger.

NEXT: Amount of experience required before you progress to the next level.

TIME: Shows the total time you've been playing the game.

GOLD: Shows the amount of gold you have collected. You can use gold with
         the merchant to buy items.

HP: Shows your current amount of hit points and your maximum amount. You
can increase this by increasing your level or by collecting Life Jars.

MP: Shows your current amount of magic and your maximum. You can increase
       this by gaining levels.

HEART: Shows how many hearts you are carrying and how many you can carry.
You can increase this by gaining levels or collecting Heart
          Containers.

STR: Your current strength level - higher strength means you cause more
        damage.

DEF: Your current defence level - higher defence means you take less
        damage.

INT: Your intelligence level - having a higher intelligence will increase
the damage you do to enemies.

LCK: How lucky you are - a higher luck level will mean more chance of
making an enemy drop an item when you destoy it.

STATUS: Shows your current status. GOOD means you are in good health,
POISON means you are poisoned and you will lose a set amount of HP
per second, and STONE means you have been turned to stone - any
damage done to you in this state will be tripled.

INFORMATION: Gives information about whatever your cursor is currently
                resting on.

There are seven options you can choose in the status screen, each one
 leading to a sub screen:

EQUIP: Allows you to change your equipment.
-----------------------------------------------

In the EQUIP sub screen you can change any of the equipment Justin is using.
You can gain new equipment either by picking up one or by buying it from the
 merchant.

WHIP: You can attach certain gems to the end of the whip, changing its
attributes and making it more effective against certain enemies (and
         maybe less effective against others).

Below this you can change various other equipment parts, such as body, head,
legs and goods. You can only have one body/head/legs part but you can have
as many goods parts as there are left. There are four slots to place
 equipment.

Placing body armour on Justin will bring up the display BODY.
Placing shoes or boots on Justing will display LEGS.
Using a helmet or goggles will show HEAD.

Any other item (such as a necklace or ring) will display GOODS.

Use your equipment wisely. If you have an enemy resistant to fire, don't use
the fire gem. If you need a lot of armour, use items that will increase it,
even if it decreases others. If you want to try and collect items, use
 something to increase your luck.

ITEMS: Allows you to use items you have collected.
------------------------------------------------------
You'll be using items quite a lot in this game, although you'll mostly be
using healing items. Simply select the item you wish to use and Justin will
automatically use it. Any item with HP in its description will heal you, and
any item with MP in its description will recover your magic points.

SPELLBOOK: Attach a property to your sub weapon.
----------------------------------------------------
Justin is able to carry a subweapon, which is activated by pressing Up + B.
By using a spellbook you can add a magical effect to the weapon, making it
stronger and giving it a special property. Spellbooks are usually difficult
to get, and there are only five throughout the entire game:

  RED: Fire
  BLUE: Ice
  GREEN: Wind
  YELLOW: Thunder
  ???: Unknown

Effects on the subweapons will be explained later.

RELICS: Allows you to turn on/off any collected relics.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Relics are special items which will help you and Justin in the game. Why you
would want to turn them off is anyone's guess, but it gives you the option
to nonetheless. I doubt you'll need to use this screen.

KEY CONFIG: You can change any of the controls with this.

SECRET INFO: You can check out any of the enemies you have defeated in
here as well as any of the special collectable items you have
                found.

SAVEROOM: Brings up a menu with two options, OK and NO. This doesn't seem
to to anything for me - if anyone knows what this does please
             mail me!

=============================================================================

 2.5 - Saving
--------------

During the game you'll come across single rooms with what looks like a
hexagonal object floating in the middle, beating like a heart. This is a
save room (the music should also have stopped). By moving into the center of
the room and pressing Up you will be asked if you wish to save your game
(the left option is Yes, the right option is No). Also, when you press up
all your health and magic will be restored (so if you just want to heal you
can walk in, press up, choose No and leave.

Save rooms are coloured Red on your map.

=============================================================================

 2.6 - Teleporting
-------------------

During the game you'll be doing a lot of teleporting, either between castle
areas or between dimensions. There are two types of teleporter:

Keyhole: A teleporter which looks like a giant keyhole with a
multicoloured background will teleport you between different
            areas of the castle.

Circle: A teleporter which looks like a large closed circle will teleport
           you between dimensions.

All teleporters are activated by standing in front of them and pressing Up.
Teleport rooms show up as Yellow on the map and there is no music played
 whilst you are in one.

=============================================================================

 3.0 - Walkthrough
-------------------

Before you begin, you must first select a save slot on the cartridge's
memory. There are three possible save slots, and once you have selected one
you must enter a name to personalise it.

With that done, it's onto the actual game!

 3.1 - Prelude
---------------

Watch through the lovely Japanese text (if anyone can translate this it would
be most appriciated!!!). Strangely the game calls itself "Castlevania:
Concerto of Midnight Sun" so why it's called White Night Concerto baffles me.
Anyway we join Justin and his friend outside in the rain, when all of a
sudden his friend kneels over (to their shock - perhaps he's found a $1000
just lying there). Now you gain control of Justin. Head as far right as you
can, over the mass of metal. The metal will rise from the ground to reveal
a giant walking machine that begins to chase you! Simply keep ahead of him
and cross the drawbridge. The drawbridge will close and the machine will
fall into the chasm below. Enter the glowing blue door.

NB. The glowing blue doors, from this point on, will always lead into a boss
encounter. Bear that in mind if you are low on health/magic. Also tactics
for beating bosses are not described in the walkthrough section - you
will have to look at the bosses section (6.2) further down for that.

 3.2 - Entrance
----------------

Proceed forward (don't worry about the floating shadow behind the curtains,
it won't do anything. Destroy the statue and walk up. Proceed into the next
 screen.
Continue walking forward to meet your first enemies, the zombies. Just whip
'em once to easily destroy these guys. You can go all the way to the end to
find a red door, but there's no point in going through as it's blocked on the
 other side.
Look along the ground for an area where you can jump down (if you are unsure
check your map). Jump down (press Down + A) into the next room. Pick up the
Life Jar and then come back up (you can't go any further down yet). Head back
to the left and jump up on the drawers into the next room.
Pick up the boots on your left (and equip them). Head to the right,
destroying the skeletons. You can also get the Bibuti sub-weapon from one of
the candles. Enter the next room to find the Red Gem Relic (see section 5.3
 - "Relics"). Head back to the left, down the hole, and left to the next
screen. There is another set of drawers here. Jump on them and up into the
 next room.
Pick up the armour to your right (and equip it - always equip new items if
they help you!), and head to your left. Another new and easy enmy here - the
bat. Head to the left and jump up into the next room.
Pick up the HP potion to your left, then head right and begin making your
way up the room. Another new enemy, the purple knight, is here. About half
the way up, there is another HP potion to the far right. Continue up the
room and exit in the top right.
Head left and enter the next room to find a save room. Save your game and
replinsh your health, then leave again. Pick up the Holy Water from the
candle nearby and continue. Jump up on the platform and into the next room.
Pick up the Heart Container to your right, then jump back down and continue
to the right. Go through the red door to enter the Corridor of Marble.

 3.3 - Corridor of Marble
--------------------------

Continue onward, being wary of the blue skeleton knights, who happen to be
pretty fast (this is where the dash comes in handy). Continue into the next
 room.
AHHHH! DEATH!!!! DEATH!!!!!! Wait a minute? Where are you going you wimp!
Death runs off and Justin typically curses him for being so scared of you.
 Continue into the next room.
Jump over the gap and pick up the map piece. This shows you the entire map
for the Corridor of Marble. Head back and fall down the gap. Pick up the HP
potion and continue down. Go to your left.

 3.4 - Room of Illusion
------------------------

Watch out for the green lizards in here, they dart forward quickly and can
cause some real damage as Justin is only on a low level. Defeat these and
pick up the Life Jar at the end. Head back to the next room and then right.
Another new enemy in here, the blue medusas. You can either destroy these or
dash underneath them. Follow the path around, picking up the circlet (and
equiping it). You can continue on from here, but you can't reach the next
area as you need the Gecko relic, so head back up to the Corridor of Marble.

 3.5 - Corridor of Marble
--------------------------

Now that you're back here, head up, defeating or avoiding the purple knights
as you go. When you get to the top you can exit on the left or the right.
 Leave on the left.
An easy puzzle here. Jump up and across the small gaps to the wooden box.
Push the box down the gap to your right, then fall down and push the box all
the way to the left. Use the box as a platform and jump up. Follow the path
around and up and into the next room.
Woohoo, two rather nice items! Pick up the Ice Book (see section 5.2 -
"Spellbooks") and the Heart Container. Now head all the way back to the room
before the box puzzle, but this time leave it using the top right exit.
Proceed forward. Pick up the axe from the candle, and watch out for the
little hunched men. Gon up the gap in the roof. Head into the room on your
left and save. Come back out, go back down the gap, and head right to find a
door. Go through and prepare to meet your first boss!

  BOSS 01. GIANT BAT

Collect the fire sphere that appears when you defeat the bat - this will
 replenish your health and magic.

NB: A fire sphere will appear after every boss you defeat :) Handy.

Head back to the last save room and save. Head to your right, pickup the
equipment (it looks like a hand) and equip it (replace the Goods that is
currently equipped). Head into the next room.
In here head for the top right corner to find the Fire Gem. You can attach
this to your whip to give your whip the properties of fire (whilst this
does nothing graphically to your whip, it does actually give it the fire
 property).
Now that you have it, go and leave through the bottom right corner. Head up
the stairs and halfway up jump onto the platform to your left. Follow the
path and up some more stairs (you can jump to the left to collect the potion
but you won't be able to get the heart container just yet). Continue up and
collect this Heart Container, but you won't be able to reach the Relic just
yet (but remember where it is!!!). Head back to the original set of stairs
and continue up. Don't exit by the top right just yet, but head down the
other set of stairs and collect the HP potion and the other potion. Now head
back up and into the next room. Continue on to face the Aqua Swordsman, he
takes a beating and can dish it out too. Dash back when he attacks, duck
under then jump over his sword when he throws it, and stay away when he
catches it coz he'll try to hit you twice afterwards. Collect the Life Jar
and head back, down the main set of stairs and into the next room. Head down
and through the floor at the bottom. Collect the Encyclopedia (see section
5.3 - "Relics") and head through the door to enter The Approach of Deplore.

3.6 - The Approach of Deplore
-------------------------------

Head forward and into the next room. Lots of new enemies here - floating
skulls and rock knights. Head into the top right room of this area to collect
the Monster Tome (see section 5.3 - "Relics"). Head back into the previous
room and to your left. You're heading for the bottom exit now, but before
you enter it go up and collect the MP Pill (replinishes your magic when
used). Head left and collect the HP Potion then head all the way to the right
and down and exit throught the bottom right corner. Collect the gray cape
(equip it in place of your Goods). Continue along, going up and over, and
minding out for the giant skull (it should only take three hits). Exit in the
bottom right, collect the Heart Container, then return to the large room. Go
down and out through the bottom. Go right, into the next room. Collect the HP
potion and go down. Head to the left, watching out for the green lizards, and
head down when you reach the end. From here go left into the next room, and
follow the path up and round to leave in the top left corner. Continue all
the way to the end of this room, minding the lizards. One of the candles also
holds possibly the best sub-weapon in the game, the Cross. At the end of this
room you can collect a Life Jar. The Life Jar is guarded by a bone snake, so
be careful. Head back along this room and through the exit in the floor.
Head into the room on your right to find another save room. Save your game
and go back out and to your left to meet your friend! How did he get in
with the drawbridge closed? Anyway, he buggers off somewhere, so when you
regain control continue left and prepare to fight another boss!

  BOSS 02. GIANT SILVER SWORDSMAN

Collect the fire sphere and go through the exit on the left. Collect the
Gecko Relic (see section 5.3 - "Relics"). Now you can slide along the ground
by pressing Down then A. Don't forget to press the button to the left to
open up the way through! Head back to the save room and save, then up the
gap and into the room on your right. Exit here in the bottom right and in
the next room go all the way down the corridor to the end, minding out for
the green lizards. Slide under the gap and collect the Life Jar, then slide
back and head up through the gap. Head right and collect the item (I don't
know what it does). Go left and collect the chicken leg, then head up the
stairs. Watch out for the Aqua Swordsman up here - once you've beaten him,
head on and down through the floor to collect an attachment for your whip.
Equipping this will make your whip spin around continuously when you hold
down B (kinda like Circle of the Moon).
Now you have to make your way all the way back to the Room of Illusion. I
suggest heading back to the room with Gecko Relic and through the door into
the Corridor of Marble, then following the path up to the Room of Illusion.

 3.7 - Room of Illusion
------------------------

Head down and leave through the exit on the right. Follow the path all the
way and exit through the bottom left. You're now in a rather funky coloured
room. Head all the way to the left and slide under the gap. Collect the
Heart Container and leave into the next room. Welcome to your first
teleporter. Stand in front of the multicoloured keyhole and press Up to
teleport to the next area (the item in front of the teleporter will increase
your luck by 10 if you want to equip it).

 3.8 - Castle's Treasury
-------------------------

Justin will exclaim that he's obviously doesn't know where he is. Head out
 to the right.
Another new enemy, the green shield skeleton. Not difficult is he? Bear in
mind you can destroy his projectiles, so he won't be much of a problem to
you. Head right and into the next room.
Collect the HP potion and climb up the room. Exit to your left. Jump over
the gap and face another new enemy, the green skeleton knight. These guys
have a tendancy to jump, so you can hit them when they land. They can cause
some damage so be warned - they should take you about 4 hits at this point
in the game to defeat. Continue to the left and into the next room. Follow
the path around, collecting the wrist band, which you can equip in place of
the circlet. Watch out for the red skeleton knights and continue on. Collect
the potion, following the path, and jump through the floor at the bottom.
Head left first to collect a Heart Container, then right to the save room.
Save and head all the way back to that gap you jumped over, but this time
head down it. Head left to find a strange blue winged creature. You can
destroy it if you like - either way collect the Life Jar and return up the
gap. Go right into the next room and right again.
Fall down the gap and jump down the platforms. Slide under the gap and head
up the stairs. You should be able to see a blue giant swordsman. Try to get
him to attack you from where he is - when he does, go as fast as you can
down the stairs and up the platforms behind him. Hit him so he staggers
backwards - try to get him to stagger off the platform. If you can, he'll
fall down and destroy the rock blocking the passage. Head down and into that
 room to find the merchant.

The merchant will appear in different rooms throughout the castle, and you
can buy all sorts of things off him, from armour and goods to healing items.
You can also sell any rings you find.

Buy anything if you need to and leave. Head back up the gap in the roof and
head to the right. Two new enemies here, the floating eyes and the bomb
knights. Don't hit the bombs if you can as the explosion will hurt you!
Continue onwards and head up the gap. Watch out for the floating glowing
things (!) and continue following the path up. Collect the black armour and
equip it in place of your current Body selection. Head back down and out of
the room. Head right and down the gap.
Head all the way to the left in this room, missing the gap, to obtain your
first collectable item (see section 5.4 - "Collectables", No. 07). Head
back and down the gap. Head to the right and drop down the gap you see, and
in this room drop all the way down to the bottom and exit on the left.

This is your Collectables room. Whenever you come here any collectables that
Justin have picked up will be placed here. Since you only have one at the
moment he will only place that one here. You don't have to bring them here
(so far as I know) but as you progress you can so Justin can show off his
 impressive home improvement skills. :)

Head back up and go left. Follow the path along and leave through the door
to enter the Cave of Skeletons.

 3.9 - Cave of Skeletons
-------------------------

Head down from here into the next room and then left. Meet another new
enemy, the orange skeleton knight. Watch out as his weapon seems to extend a
bit. Go left and up to obtain another collectable (see section 5.4 -
"Collectables", No. 13.). Head down and left - jump over the large skull and
hit it from the left hand side to send it tumbling down and creating a
platform. Jump on the skull and head right and down, following the path to
 the next room.
Another new enemy, the barrel skeleton. Get up close and duck so the barrel
goes over you, all the while whipping away (he should only take three hits
at this point). Follow the path up, and destroy the wooden supports to make
the skull drop down. Continue upwards and pick up the collectable in the top
right corner (see section 5.4 - "Collectables", No. 23). Leave through the
exit on the left. Slide underneath the giant blade when it's at it's highest
and continue left to meet up with your friend again, who seems a bit edgy.
This time he runs off at full speed laughing his head off, no doubt after
leaving one heck of a curry induced methane blast. Continue to your left and
enter the next room. Follow the path around - the new enemy in here is the
orange skeleton - one hit and they collapse for a while, so there's no
difficulty here. Leave in the bottom left corner and save in the next room.
Continue left, and follow the path around to reach your next boss!

  BOSS 03. GIANT SKELETON KNIGHT

Collect your fire sphere and continue to your left to pick up the Feather
(see section 5.3 - "Relics")! Now you can double jump and perform a nifty
kick by pressing Down + A in midair! Head back through the boss room and
follow the path around. When you reach the top right of this room, use your
new double jump to go up through the roof. Head right and destroy the club
skeleton, then continue right. Head through the next room, then destroy the
pink skeletons in the next one. Carry on and then down to collect a Life Jar,
then head back up and left to the gap you first came up through but go left
this time. Watch out for the javelin knights in the next room and head down.
Destroy the wooden support in the next room and continue up. Collect the
peaked cap in the next room (equip it, replacing your wrist band). You can't
get anywhere by going up so it's time to head back. Head all the way back
towards where you started the Cave of Skeletons by going down, up the next
room, down through the floor, down to the bottom right, through the save
room (save if you need/want to), through the next room and the long
corridor, and through the next two rooms. You should now be at a junction
where you can go either up or right - head right. Watch out for the bone
walker here - knock him back then head up and left to pick up some blue
boots (equip these over your current Legs parts). Head back and down this
time, then left (don't bother to jump onto the platform, it's a dead end).
Jump up the platforms at the end to collect a HP potion, then go down the
gap. Head to the right to the next room and go all the way up to collect the
Heart Container. Now head back to the junction and go up and leave by the
door at the top to exit the Cave of Skeletons.

TIP: Remember that first bone walker you came across? Now he's facing the
other way - DON'T HIT HIM! He will walk back towards you if you do and
cause some serious damage. Instead just follow him and he will continue
on through the wall, leaving you free to carry on.

 3.10 - Castle's Treasury
-------------------------

Head all the way to the right and into the next room. You can head down from
here and into the collectables room to drop off your collectables, or you
can just head right through the door to enter the Moss Grown Cave.

 3.11 - Moss Grown Cave
------------------------

Head to your right, watching out for the green axe knights, and head into the
next room. Follow the path up and round and into the next room, where you'll
meet a new enemy, the blue witches. Head right and up the gap, then continue
upwards (the door leads to a new area which is inaccesible right now) and
pick up the green coloured jewel. Head back down the gap and right. Watch out
for another new enemy, the poison plant, which can spew out poison and its
only vulnerable point is its head. If you get poisoned you can use a potion
to heal it (they are coloured purple in your inventory). Continue to the
right, over the gap, and into the next room where you can save and heal.

NB: Unlike previous Castlevania game where saving would result in you losing
all status ailments, in WNC you will regain health but still be poisoned,
so wait until the poison has worn off or until you have used a potion
before saving (or if you are low on health, save then wait for the
ailment to disappear and save again).

Continue right. Head all the way up and collect the bust (see section 5.4 -
"Collectables", No. 19) and the MP Pill. The way to the left is blocked, so
head out the exit to the right. Head down and right and destroy the plant to
get a Poison Heal potion, then head left and collect the HP potion. Exit the
room the way you came in.
Now head back to the save room and save. Head to the right again and leave
now through the gap in the floor. Head right and face your fourth boss!

  BOSS 04. ROCK WARRIOR

Collect your fire sphere and continue to the right. Stand on the large
wooden platform and hit the lever on the wall. This will cause a large
spiked ceiling to fall on an unsuspecting creature and its blood will begin
pouring down, causing the platform to rise. Avoid the spikes on the
underside of the platforms as you rise. When you reach the top, head over
the now rather dead creature and into the next room.
Watch out for the blobs in here, as they can jump and fall on top of you,
which will cause various status ailments to you. Go into the next room and
pick up the collectable (see section 5.4 - "Collectables", No. 28) and the
whip powerup, which should be equipped to increase your STR.
Now head all the way back to the boss room. In the next room head all the
way to the end and down the gap.
Head to your right into the next room. Watch out in here for the spellbinding
witches - they take a few hits. Pick up the collectable to the right (see
section 5.4 - "Collectables", No. 05) and follow the path round into the
 next room.
In this room, first head into the bottom right room (for completion sake -
there is nothing here in this castle). Now head back up to the box. First,
push the box to the right and off the edge, then push it off the edge to the
left, then again to the right, and finally push it on top of the button. This
will keep the door open so you can go through. Head into the next room and
 pick up the Life Jar.
Check your map - head all the way back to the save room and save. Now head
left and then down the gap. Go all the way to the left and down another gap.
Go to the right and collect the Heart Container, then go all then way to the
left and down yet another gap. Go all the way down and collect the Large HP
Potion, then go right. Follow the path round through the next few rooms to
 reach another teleporter. Enter it.

3.12 - Corridor In The Air
----------------------------

Head to the right to once again encounter your flatulent friend. After a
lengthy explanation of something he runs off to the teleporter. Head to your
 right.
Watch out for the jellyfish things here, as hitting them will cause them to
release poisonous spores - it's actually better to just avoid them. Head to
the right and jump through the floor. Pick up the Life Jar to the left and
head back up. Pick up the Large HP Potion and continue upwards. Collect the
green potion in the top left and exit to the right, past the giant
 jellyfish.
Head down the stairs - watch out for the archer skeletons - and enter the
save room on your right. Save here, but remember the wall - it's a different
colour. Once you have the thunder gem for your whip you can return here to
 destroy it.
Leave the save room and head back up the stairs. Jump up to the right, slide
under the passage and continue right. Exit through the ceiling.
Head as far up as you can and obtain a collectable (see section 5.4 -
"Collectables", No. 27). Now head to the top and to the right to gain another
(see section 5.4 - "Collectables", No. 26). Head back down and to the right -
defeat the bone snake and collect the Max HP Potion. Now head back down
through the gap. Go to the save room if you need to heal up, otherwise drop
down a floor and go right to fight your fifth boss!

  BOSS 05. WINGED DEVIL

Collect your fire sphere and continue onwards. Collect the goggles and
remember them! They will come in handy later on, but don't equip them just
yet. Head back and save your game, then go down the gap outside the save
room. Head to the left - watch out for the multi-weapon - and go down through
the floor. _Now_ equip your goggles - tada! You can see (a little). Be very
careful going through this section as there are spikes on both the floor and
the ceiling. Pick up the helmet below you (don't equip it) and continue to
the right. Go through the floor to the next room and go all the way to the
left. Slide under the platform to get a ring, then carry on and through the
red door to the Waterway of Aquatic.

 3.13 - Waterway of Aquatic
----------------------------

First things first, remove the goggles and put on the helmet you picked up
a few screen ago. Right, head down and through the floor at the bottom. Watch
out for these new enemies, they can dive at you. Proceed to the right and go
down through the floor. Head left, watching out for these enemies, who can
bounce about and shoot water jets at you. Collect the Heart Container and
then head back to the right. You now have a choice of three directions go to
the right. Go all the way to the end of this room and collect the Ice gem
for your whip - equip it as most of the enemies here (and the boss) are weak
against the Ice element. Go back to the previous room and up. Head to the
left to save, then go to your right to face your sixth boss.

  BOSS 06. AQUA MAN

Collect your flame sphere and exit to the right. Pick up the Life Jar and the
Heart Container before going through the red door.

 3.14 - Clockwork Tower
------------------------

Head up and through the door on the left. Destroy the club skeletons, head up
then right, destroy the flame skulls, and pick up the Heart Container.
Continue up and into the next room. Press the button to open the wall, then
head to the right. Destroy the invisible swordsmen if you wish (you can just
jump over the sword as that's the only part that damages you) and continue
on. Go up through the gap and left. Jump across the pendulums to get across
the spikes. Go down through the gap. If you have the axe or the bibuti or
the holy water you can use it to destroy the little critters in here, other
wise you might have to use a magic effect (such as the ice book and cross to
attack them). Pick up the map piece to reveal the map of the Clockwork Tower
on your map screen). Jump back out and go left. Fall to the bottom and
collect the head dressing (equip it too), then head back up. Be warned - the
harpy enemies are dangerous and should not be dealt with lightly! Leave via
the top exit and head up to collect a card item, then go back and take the
exit below. Head along then up the gap to collect a Life Jar, then head back
down and right again. Watchout for the blue knight and continue on to pick
up the scale armour. Equip it then head back and down the gap. Go right into
the next room - watch out for the spinning swords, you can slide underneath
them if you like, and proceed into the next room. Head up, missing the first
exit, and taking the second to find a save room. Heal and save before heading
out, then go through the exit you missed. Head straight across into the next
room then up and over and into another room. Try to knock the machine man
back into the machinery by continuously hitting his shield to destroy him and
gain several equipment items! Equip these and go back to the previous room,
around that and into the next room. Head all the way to the bottom of this
room (don't bother about the exit to the right) to obtain a collectable (see
section 5.4 - "Collectables", No. 06). Head back up and out the exit on the
left, then up again to the save room. Save and heal, then leave and head up
to exit to the right and fight boss number seven!

  BOSS 07. HUMONGOUS BLOB!

Collect your fire sphere and continue. Head up in the next room and take the
first exit. Collect the Wind gem for your whip at the end of this room, then
head back to the previous one and go up again, taking the top exit.
It's that wimp Death again! No doubt he's informing you that he's gonna send
his big brother after you if you don't turn away now. Bull. Once Death has
run off again, stand in front of the doors and press Up to enter the other
 dimension.

3.15 - Clockwork Tower, The Other Dimension
---------------------------------------------

 To be continued...

 4.0 - Items & Equipment
-------------

Right now, I would suggest you download the Item list by AstroBlue. You can
get this from the C:WNC FAQ page on GameFAQ's, and it contains every item and
their effects. Bear in mind you need a JIS compatable word processor to see
the Japanese characters. I'll be working on an item list using descriptions
of the items themselves so you can determine what they are without having
to match the Japanese text :)

=============================================================================

 5.0 - Special Items
---------------------

There are many special items throughout the game. These are usually
surrounded by a blue aura and a floating above the ground, apart from the
sub-weapons, which fall out of candles (or sometimes enemies). These have
the aura but do not float.

=============================================================================

 5.1 - Sub-weapons
-------------------

Justin can use a sub-weapon by pressing Up + B, but he can only hold one at
a time. Sub-weapons are usually founn in candles, but are occasionally
 dropped by enemies as well.

Dagger: Justin throws a dagger in the direction he's facing.

Axe: Justin throws an axe up in the area to come down half a screen width
        in front of him.

Bibuti: Justin throws ashes out in front of him, damaging any enemy that
           touches them.

Holy Water: Justin throws the vial on the floor, resulting in a flame
rising along the ground, damaging any enemy it touches.

Bible: Justin throws a bible out which cirles around him with an ever
          increasing radius until it disappears.

Cross: Justing throws the cross which travles 3/4 of a screen before
          returning like a boomerang.

Using these sub-weapons is not free - each sub weapon requires hearts.
Hearts however are very easy to come by, but watch out when battling a boss
as you can't get hearts during a boss battle.

=============================================================================

 5.2 - Spellbooks
------------------

As you progress through the game, you'll come across Spellbooks. These
books, when activated in the status screen, will imbue your sub-weapons with
magical properties. Now instead of using hearts when you use a sub-weapon,
your magic bar will decrease instead. These are the spellbooks you'll find
and their effect on your sub-weapon.

5.2.1 - FIRE BOOK: Coloured red
---------------------------------
Axe: Two dragons made of fire appear and encircle Justin. They will also
        attack the nearest enemy.

Bible: One of the bibles spins out of Justin, but it also produces large
          flames from itself.

Bibuti: Justin summons several fireballs that move slowly forward, burning
anything in their path, and a kickback moves Justin back a few
           feet.

Cross: A cross engulfed in flame appears a few feet in front of Justin
which floats. When an enemy touches it or Justin uses his whip the
cross spins rapidly and spreads out, damaging anything in its path.

Dagger: Justin jumps in the air, several daggers circle him and then
disappear, as a ball of fire bounces around the screen.

Holy Water: A fire ball appears and bounces along the ground.

5.2.2 - ICE BOOK: Coloured blue
---------------------------------
Axe: Justin summons a huge icicle from above which comes crashing down,
        damaging anything below it.

Bible: Justin created large blue flames on either side of him that follow
the ground and damage any enemy they touch.

Bibuti: Justin forms an icicle on his arm and charges forward.

Cross: Justin somes a cross made of ice which follows him and will shoot
icicles at any enemy nearby until it melts.

Dagger: Justin shoots out a few large icicles which head in the direction
he is facing and home in on the enemy.

Holy Water: Large blocks of ice appear from thin air and strike together on
              the nearest enemy.

5.2.3 - WIND BOOK: Coloured green
-----------------------------------
Axe: An axe appears and cirlces around Justin, damaging anything it
        touches.

Bible: Three bibles appear and encircle Jusin to protect him.

Bibuti: Justin fires a huge ball of energy in the direction he is facing,
and the kickback sends him back a few feet.

Cross: Several crosses come out of Justin and circle around him, damaging
anything they touch, and eventually whittle away.

Dagger: Justing throws about a hundred daggers in the direction he's facing
           at impressive speed!

Holy Water: Justin jumps in the air and rain pours down damaging anything
               it touches.

5.2.4 - THUNDER BOOK: Coloured yellow
---------------------------------------
Axe: Justin will jump in the air before the screen is filled with thunder,
        damaging anything on screen.

Bible: Two balls of electricity appear and guard Justin from frontal
attack. They eventually wear down to nothing.

Bibuti: Justin summons lighting into his hand and sends it in the
           direction he is facing.

Cross: Justin floats in the air whils several large crosses circle around
him up a shaft of light.

Dagger: Justin shoots several balls of lighting into the air which come
down a few seconds later, damaging anything they touch.

Holy Water: Justin summons a bolt of lighting which travels across the
entire height of the screen and damages anything in it path.

 5.3 - Relics
--------------

Relics are found throughout the game and are essential to progressing
deeper into the castle. Relics can be turned on or off in the "Relics" menu
on the status screen. There are a total of twelve relics to be found.
Below are all the relics in the game, where they are found, and what effect
 they cause:

NB: This list is incomplete as I have yet to finish the game. I have included
all those in my origianl save file (I am going through again for this
walkthrough). If anyone has finished and can complete the list please
mail me and credit will be given to you oh honourable one.

             hurtling towards the ground.

 03. Name: Wing
     Found: ???
Effect: By pressing Down then Up + A quickly, Justin will shoot skyward
at an impressive speed and will stick to a celing (if he hits
one) for a second. This move can be performed over and over
again to gain great height, and can also be directed slightly by
pressing a direction at the same time as Up.

 04. Name: Red Gem

These are items that don't do anything in themselves, but can be collected
and placed in a special room in the castle. I don't know whether collecting
them all will unlock anything or just allow you to complete the game with a
100% completion rate, but either way here's the list of them and their
locations. There are 31 collectable items:

NB: This list is incomplete as I have yet to finish the game. If anyone has

 5.5 - Others
--------------

Life Jars: Life Jars are found usually after a boss, or in some hard to
reach area. They increase your maximum health points by five,
as well as recover your health. They look like clear vases,
with a multi coloured liquid inside them.

Heart Containers: Heart containers, like Life Jars, are usually found after
a boss or in a hard to reach place. These too increase
your maximum number of hearts by five. These simply look
like a large heart inside a clear heart shape.

=============================================================================

 6.0 - Enemies & Bosses
------------------------

Castlevania: White Night Concerto is chock full of enemies and bosses, from
the obligatory skeletons to the not so obligatory owls (?). Of course, no
platformer would be a platformer without bosses, and luckily WNC does not
 disappoint.

=============================================================================

 6.1 - Enemies
---------------

A must have for (practically) any game are enemies, and WNC is full of them.
As you progress through the game, each enemy you defeat will be listed in
the Encyclopedia (accessed under the "Secret Info" section on the status
screen. Below is the entire list of enemies you'll encounter:

NB: As the names and items are in Japanese I don't know their proper names
etc. so i've just named them for how they look. If anyone can give me
there proper names due credit will be given.

NNB: This list isn't complete - it's just as far as i've got :) If anyone
would like to add any details (like enemy names or items) please mail me
and proper credit will be given.

NNNB: Having just checked out GameFAQ's, there is a Monster Encyclopedia
FAQ by Shdwrlm3 that seems to be pretty damn good. Check that out for
       any information I am missing.

 6.2 - Bosses
--------------

During your travels throughout the castle you'll occasionally come across an
extremely powerful enemy or "boss" as they are more commonly known. Below
are all the bosses in the game, along with strategies to defeat them:

 01. Name: Giant Bat
     Level: 10
     HP: 400
     Tolerance: None
     Weakness: None
     Items Dropped: - Nothing
                    - Nothing
     EXP: 66
Movements: The giant bat tends to float around the screen, and has two
attacks. The first is to send a very slow moving flame
towards you, and the second is to start spinning in mid air
before speeding into the ground in your direction.
To kill it, just keep whipping it. If you have the axe (which
you should) you can use it to attack without having to jump.
Both his attacks are really easy to avoid - you shouldn't
have any trouble beating this guy.

 02. Name: Giant Silver Swordsman
     Level: 13
     HP: 900
     Tolerance: None
     Weakness: None
     Items Dropped: - Nothing
                    - Nothing
     EXP: 110
Movements: This guy will basically walk towards you, occasionally
pulling back to take a swing at you with his rather large
                sword.
Whip him. A lot. If you keep whipping him he'll get knocked
back by your overwhelming power. Whenever he pulls back to
swing at you just dash backwards and dash back in when brings
his arm back up. If you get hit it'll be more than likely an
                accident! Easy stuff.

 03. Name: Giant Skeleton Knight
     Level: 20
     HP: 1600
     Tolerance: None
     Weakness: Thunder
     Items Dropped: - Nothing
                    - Nothing
     EXP: 339
Movements: This guy moves very slowly. He tends to hide behind his shield
and attacks by pulling back his sword and jabbing forward,
which is easily avoidable by dashing away from him. He will
also jump from time to time, so stay away when he does.
Basically just keep whipping - use the Cross (with magic if
you like) to get some steady hits in. After a while his sword
and shield will fall away and he will crumble, but you
haven't defeated him. He will return without his sword and
with increased speed. This time he will begin to flash -
when he does jump on a platform, as he will disappear and
reappear right on top of you if you are on the ground. Use the
same tactics as before and again he will crumble and return,
                this time without his shield.
Now he has another new attack, a beam which extends the
width of the play area and causes a lot of damage. He will
suck in light before this - when he does, jump on a platform,
or duck. Apart from this new attack there is nothing new, so
continue as usual and this time you really will defeat him! :)

 04. Name: Rock Warrior
     Level: 18
     HP: 1408
     Tolerance: Thunder
     Weakness: None
     Items Dropped: - Nothing
                    - Nothing
     EXP: 273
Movements: The Rock Warrior is really slow too. His main attack is to
jump on the ground, loosening the rock above and causing it
to fall down. Try to avoid the rocks if you can and whip
away at him. When he pulls his arm away, back off as he is
about to punch you and he has quite a reach. After a fair bit
of damage some of his rock will fall away revealing a red
orb. Now you have to attack the orb to damage him. He also
has a new attack - he will pull his fist back but instead of
punching lots of small rocks will spew forth from the orb.
Back off as far as you can when he does this, or jump over
                him if at all possible.
Eventually the orb will shatter and he will crumble away.

     Tolerance: None
     Weakness: None
     Items Dropped: - Nothing
                    - Nothing
     EXP: 627
Movements: This guy floats about the screen most of the time. Whatever
you do, DON'T TOUCH HIM as this will curse you and you will
barely be able to move. He sometimes sucks in fire and blows
a beam of it out. Sit under him to avoid it. He will also
land and do the same - you can duck under this, but keep away
as afterwards he will punch forward.
Do your best to avoid him if you can. Your subweapon coupled
with the Ice book will help a lot. Also you should have the
Ice gem for your whip, so equip that to help you. Use the
platforms to attack when he is in the air as this is safer
than jumping at him as he could attack in mid jump. Keep on
going at him and try to avoid touching him! Once beaten he'll
burn up in a ball of flame!

 06. Name: Aqua Man (!?) :)
     Level: 30
     HP: 3520
     Tolerance: Fire
     Weakness: Ice
     Items Dropped: - Nothing
                    - Nothing
     EXP: 1298
Movements: Quite a fast walker this fella! Watch out when he covers his
face with his eyes - a wave of water will stretch along the
ground, so jump on a platform to avoid it. Sometimes he will
curl up in a ball and come hurtling at you. Just stay on a
platform to avoid it. He can also all up some of his minions
(who'll you have already met) - just destroy these or avoid
them as they'll return to the water after attacking.
Basically, break out that whip and pummel him whilst he's
walking. Another good thing is to use the Ice Book as he is
weak against the Ice element. Simply look out for his attacks
and whip him into submission :P Eventually he'll evapourate
in a whiff of blue flame!

 07. Name: Humongous Blob!
     Level: 32

     Tolerance: None
     Weakness: None
     Items Dropped: - Nothing
                    - Nothing
     EXP: 1479
Movements: The blob will move very very slowly towards you, so keep on
whipping. Ducking and whipping is actually better, as he
spurts out lots of small blobs that can only be hit by ducking
and attacking. Jump over him when he backs you into the corner
and continue. Sometimes he will change colour - whatever
colour he is will determine the status ailment he will inflict
if he touches you - which is unlikely.
Occasionally he will attach himself to the celing. You can
attack if you wish but eventually he will fall down anyway
and you continue then. Soon your continuous beatings will
whittle him down to nothing and he will pop! :)

Man my fingers hurt from typing continuously for several hours. Don't do one
of these FAQ's unless you're willing to get arthritis. :P Oh well, better
work on my Yu-Gi-Oh! site now... :)
