Version 1, completed on 17-4-02

If anyone could tell me what the general and queen say (if they talk
at all) could you please tell me, as my sound doesn't work.

Units:

Land units

Example layout:
(name of unit)
(Game's description of unit)
(Stats)
(My description)

Land only units (excluding transport)

Ant
The ant is a fast walker, and can throw bombs farther than the pillbug.
Attack 6. Defense 3
One of the most common units, ants are fairly decent troops. They can
carry weapons, which makes them even better.

Assassin bugs
This stealthy bug can pass undetected through defensive perimeters and
deliver one powerful blow.
Attack 2. Defense 0
These units are no good at general fighting, but can deliver an
incredibly powerful first strike, which also makes the enemy dizzy,
allowing other units to safely inflict even more damage. Make sure
you don't use them for regular fighting however, you will regret it.

Cockroach
A very strong defender, the cockroach is also immune to poison and
harmful terrain.
Attack 6. Defense 7.
Really good overall units, you'll want your armies to consist of tons
of cockroaches. Unfortunately, the enemy seems to get more then you
do.

Commander
A commander gives attack and defense bonuses to friendly bugs within
his command radius
Attack 6. Defense 5.
Commanders are often useful for raising your troops morale, helping
them to inflict more damage and to take more damage. They often have
specific names such as, Winston Anthill, Aldolf Antler, etc.

Flea
A fast walker who can make short jumps, the flea is a weak fighter.
Attack 4. Defense 7.
Weak and way too common, at least the fleas have a good walking speed
and a decent defense.

Grasshopper
The grasshopper is a very powerful jumper with a moderately potent
attack but is a very weak defender.
Attack 8. Defense 1.
Great for supporting battles and grabbing food quickly, the grasshopper
is a fairly good unit. Just one thing though, NEVER let them be attacked
first by another unit, they will die very quickly.

Jumping spider
A weaker jumper but a stronger defender than the grasshopper, and the
fastest walker of all.
Attack 8. Defense 4.

Medic ant
The medic ant can heal injured bugs, but needs energy to do it. Medics
do not fight at all.
Attack 0. Defense 0.

Pill bug
Pill Bugs can throw bombs (though not as far as ants). They are tough
defenders, and are immune to explosives.
Attack 7. Defense 7.
Pill bugs are great overall units like the cockroach. They may not have
much health, but the fact they can use weapons and are immune to
explosions makes up for it.

Praying mantis
This bug has an extermely powerful attack, and can overwhelm any bug
except a rhinoceros beetle.
Attack 16. Defense 5.
One of the best units, you had just better be careful of their moderate
defense. Their health can sink surprisinly quickly.

Rhinoceros Beetle
The most powerful fighter of all, the rhinoceros beetle walks at the
same speed, regardless of terrain.
Attack 16. Defense 7.
THE best units, they have a crapload of health, can shrug off bombs,
and have a really damaging attack to boot! In any other game
they would be classed as 'heavy infantry/tanks.' This means that they
don't travel too fast and are rather rare, but you'll love the levels
where you get them!

Spider
This bug is the only unit that can attack multiple bugs simultaneously.
It is the most effective against a crowd of enemies occupied with
another unit.
Attack 14. Defense 4.
Due to the rarity of these units (except for the enemy), the only thing
i can say about them is that they are good when you get them.

Stink bug
As long as it has energy, this bug can break wind, confusing foes.
It is immune to cheese bomb fumes, and turns into a cheese itself
when killed.
Attack 4. Defense 2.

Flying units (excluding transport)

Bee
The Bee is a strong fighter with superior range, and makes an excellent
long range bomber
Attack 13. Defense 4.
Another great overall unit, you'll find you mostly use them for bombing
raids, but don't forget that they have a good attack.

Lightning bug
A moderately good figher, the lightning bug is a stronger fighter than
the mosquito, but weaker than the bee.
Attack 10. Defense 3.
Another rare unit. I usually use them for food raids or to help my units
in fighting.

Mosquito
The mosquito is the fastest flier and has a sharp bite, but is a weak
defender
Attack 8. Defense 2.
Not much to say about these guys, except that they are really good for
bombing raids (and helping your units fight).

Robber fly
This bug can steal bombs from enemies, but can carry only one at a
time. It is the only unit that can disengage from battle.
Attack 4. Defense 2
No description yet

Wasp
The wasp is the most powerful fighter of all the fliers.
Attack 15. Defense 6
Watch out for wasps, they are deadly. They especially like to bomb you
then attack your weakened units. They are just a more powerful version
of the bee, plus they look cool too.

Water units (excluding transports)

Diving beetle
Of the bugs that can cross water, the diving beetle is by far the best
fighter.
Attack 15. Defense 6.
A little slow, even when crossing water. Their good health and attack
levels make up for that though.

Water bug
This bug is a weak fighter that walks slowly on land but very quickly
on water.
Attack 4. Defense 2.
Apart from being able to grab food quickly (as long as there is a trail
of liquid leading to it) these guys are useless. Even fleas can defeat
them! AVOID USING UNLESS NECESSARY.

Transports

Moth
The moth can aerially transport one other bug (except for rhinoceros
beetles and oher transports).
Attack 2. Defense 1.
If they could drop any bombs they would have been so much better.
Unfortunately, they are weak, and slow both to fly and to walk. The
one good thing is that they can get slow units to their destination
quickly.

Water boatman
This bug can cross water while carrying one another bug (except Rhino
beetles and other transports). It has a reasonably strong attack.
Attack 10. Defense 4

Example layout:
(Level name here)
(Units you have)
(Units they have)
(Best method of victory, either getting food or killing enemy units)
(Solution)

Boot camp 1: Dirt simple

You have: 2 ants
They have: 1 ant
Win by: Killing enemy
Get both red ants to attack the grey ant at the bottom. Easy.

Boot camp 2: Mad bomber

You have: 1 ant w/3 bombs
They have: 3 spiders
Win by: Killing enemy
Get your ant to run away from the spiders and try to walk around either
edge of the plastic-like substance. The spiders should slow down and you
can finish them off with the bombs.

Boot camp 3: Food flight

You have: 2 lightning bugs
They have: 1 praying mantis
Win by: Stealing food
This level can get a little tricky. You must try to grab as much food as
possible before the enemy does. You have the advantage of numbers and speed.
Try to grab the pizza and/or the pop tart as they give you the most points.
If you wish, you can use one of your bugs as a distraction, while the other
gets the food. Make sure you have quite a bit of food before trying this,
as the praying mantis will make fast work of the lightning bug.

Boot camp 4: I got a rock

You have: 1 ant w/3 rocks
They have: 1 cockroach
Win by: Killing enemy
Get your ant to run up the 'hill' of cereal, then throw rocks at the
cockroach as he is in range. Remember, rocks do more damage if thrown
from high altitudes. You must throw them from the very top of the cereal
box or the cockroach may still have enough health to kill your ant.

Boot camp 5: Gang of two

You have: 1 pill bug, 1 grasshopper
They have: 1 praying mantis
Win by: Killing enemy
There is a trick to this level, you must take into account the defense
ratings of your bugs, the pill bug has a higher rating then the grasshopper
so he must attack first. Get the grasshopper to jump behind the pill bug,
then either wait for the praying mantis to attack the pill bug first, or
send the pill bug to attack, shortly followed by the grasshopper.

Gang of four

You have: 3 ants, 1 pill bug
They have: 1 praying mantis
Win by: Killing enemy
Only slightly different to the last level, this requires some manovering
of your troops. Get your pill bug to attack the mantis. Get your ants to
run behind the pill bug (ie, walk them over to the pill bug and stay a
fair distance behind, but not too far). You should finish this level without
too much trouble.

Leftovers

You have: 1 spider, 1 ant, 1 mosquito
They have: 1 ant, 1 lightning bug
Win by: Killing enemy
Speed is the key to this level, you must get all your units to the left
olive as fast as possible, the mosquito should get there first. Let
the mosquito be attacked by the lightning bug, then get your ant to attack
it. When the mosquito dies get your spider to attack any remaining enemy
units.

Basement race

You have: 2 diving beetles, 1 water bug, 1 ant
They have: 2 pill bugs
Win by: Getting food
Using the pathmaking tool, make your water bug take the fastest route
through the oil to get to the bun at the top. Make the diving beetle on
the left chase the nearest pill bug. Now make your ant and other diving
beetle go to the packet of shards on the right hand side. On the way to the
chips a pill bug should run into the matches then bump into your diving
beetle. Make the diving beetle attack him. When the water bug has captured
the bun, make him attack the pill bug that is on his way. There is some
luck needed in this stage, as your ant may get stuck on the way, the water
bug may accidently step off the oil and slow down, etc.

A crisis of leadership

You have: 2 pill bugs, 1 commander
They have: 2 bees, 2 mosquitoes
Win by: Killing enemy
Make your commander walk to the spot just north of the place where the oil
'rivers' meet. Try to make your pill bugs walk to the commander, but make
sure they stay in capturing range of the food. The bonus given to the
units by your commander is enough to win.

Cola commotion

You have: 2 ants, 1 pill bug, 1 moth
They have: 2 pill bugs
Win by: Killing enemy
Get your pill bug into the moth then fly him over to the salami at the top
of the level. Get your ants to make their way there too. As soon as the moth
lands, have him unload the pill bug then have them both attack the nearest
pill bug. When the ants arrive, have them help out against the second pill
bug.

Basic insink

You have: 2 bees w/1 bomb each, 2 ants, 2 mosquitoes, 2 cockroaches,
1 ant w/2 firecrackers
They have: Exactly the same as you
Win by: Killing enemy
The first real warzone stage, it takes a little bit of planning to go
your way. Firstly, get your mosquitoes and bees to attack the enemy
bees, this way you get rid of the chance of being bombed. You will lose
your mosquitoes in these attacks, but they are of little use anyway.
The enemy mosquitoes will most likely attack one of your cockroaches. Get
a nearby ant to assist him in killing the mosquitoes. Now check to see
which side the enemy is coming down. Usually they come down the right-hand
side of the sink and one ant goes down the left. Move your firecracker ant
just behind the cockroach on the side that the enemy is mainly approaching
from. When the first ants arrive on the other side, use a group of a
cockroach and ant to kill them. By now your bees should have finished their
battle. Get them to bomb the two enemy cockroaches then land with the
rest of your units. Now get the firecracker ant to throw his explosives
at the cockroaches. If the bees were too slow, use the firecrackers first,
then let the bombs drop. If they survived all that, get all your units to
attack them. Hopefully the enemy's firecracker ant was travelling with the
cockroaches and died in the bombings. If not, use a single bee to attack
him, followed by any units you can spare.

Triple jump

You have: 7 ants, 3 grasshoppers, 1 praying mantis
They have: Exactly the same as you
Win by: Killing enemy
I'm not quite sure if there's a foolproof way to winning this level,
all I do is pile up my units around my praying mantis and get them all to
attack any enemy units who get close. The two ants on the edge, however,
are usually killed quite quickly by speedy grasshoppers who manage to
attack them from behind before they can get to the main group. It is
important that the enemy's praying mantis is taken out quickly, don't
leave him till last when all your units are weak.

Spatula spat

You have: 1 bee, 2 ants, 1 cockroach, 1 pill bug.
They have: 1 cockroach, 2 ants, 1 spider, 1 praying mantis.
Win by: Killing enemy
This is the 'medium' level from the demo, but is slightly different in
the full version. I'm still not quite sure how I finished this level, but
I'll tell you anyway. Firstly, I got all my units to attack the
southernmost ant in the level. Then I got my bee to attack the enemy
cockroach, and the others to fight the spider. After that, i killed the
next enemy ant, then the praying mantis. Finally I ganged up on the
cockroach. This may not work but try it anyway.

Slawgging along

You have: 3 ants, 1 water bug.
They have: 1 bee, 1 ant
Win by: Getting the food is better, but you may end up killing instead
Get your water bug to run to the salami slice using the most direct path,
remember to use the water for extra speed. Get your ants to walk around
the chips to the salami. Hopefully you'll get there fast enough to stop
the bee. Kill him and hope your units eat it before the ant arrives. If
not, they'll have to take him out. Remember, your ants should attack the
bee first, but your water bug should attack the ant first.

The bread line

You have: 2 grasshoppers, 1 mosquitoes, 1 lightning bug, 6 ants,
1 ant w/3 firecrackers
They have: 1 bee w/2 bombs, 1 pill bug, 1 spider, 1 praying mantis,
1 cockroach
Win by: Killing enemy
I found a bug in this level, where only one of your flying units will
attack the enemy bee while the other will just hover there. It doesn't
make too much of a difference though, as the bees bombing raid can be
used to your advantage. Firstly, get your flying untis to attack the
enemy bee. Then get your grasshoppers to join your ants. Wait for the
spider and cockroach to approach from the right and throw two
firecrackers at them to weaken them. Next, get your firecracker ant
to throw his remaining firecrackers at the praying mantis, then tell
him to attack him. If your flying units died, the bee will bomb your
firecracker ant, but should critically damage the praying mantis
while doing this. If your flying units won the battle, get them to attack
the mantis. Now get your 3 ants and grasshopper on the right hand side
to attack the spider, then the cockroach. Wait for the pill bug to
approach from the left then get your other 3 ants and grasshopper to
attack him. Your remaining units should be strong enough to kill the
enemy cockroach and praying mantis, as long as you remember to make
them gang up.

Bug sandwich

You have: 2 grasshoppers, 3 ants, 2 bees
They have: 2 pill bugs, 2 ants, 1 spider, 1 grasshopper, 1 diving beetle
Win by: Getting food
Although you can win by killing the enemy (that's how I finished this
level the first time) it's easier just to grab the food. To do this
you need to kill all the enemy units except for the diving beetle. It's
best to get your grasshoppers to gang up on the enemy grasshopper, and
your bees to kill the spider. Use any of your units to kill the enemy
ants and pill bugs. Now I hope you have a bee and an another unit
alive, it's a bit hard with just one unit. Now all you need to do is
get one unit to distract the diving beetle, while the other grabs
the food. This level isn't too hard, but you must be careful of the
time limit, and how you manovere your troops...

A pizza the action

You have: 3 ants, 1 ant w/1 bomb, 1 spider, 1 cockroach, 1 grasshopper
They have: 1 bee, 1 pill bug, 1 flea, 1 praying mantis, 1 ant
1 ant w/1 bomb, 1 grasshopper
Win by: Stealing food
Another distraction stage, but a little more thought is needed for
this one. Gather everyone except the bomb ant and the grasshopper in
the centre of the pizza. Get your bomb ant to go to the space inside
the water puddle, and have him throw a bomb when the praying mantis
is in range. Have your grasshopper go to the enemies pop tart and wait
there. Make sure your units at the pizza are all fighting an enemy
(preferably ganging up on the same one). By now the praying mantis
will be going back to the pop tart to reclaim it. Have your grasshopper
run away back to the pizza. Get your bomb ant to wait just above the
water puddle, he'll need to get to the pop tart soon. By now the battle
at the pizza should be nearing its conclusion, get your grasshopper
to help out. When the praying mantis is halfway back to the pizza, get
your bomb ant to go to the tart. On my game the mantis started
attacking my units, but then he decided to run back to the pop tart.
It was too late however, and I won the level. Remember this level has
quite a bit of luck involved, this tactic won't always work. (Your
bomb ant may get attacked in his little hiding place, but hopefully
he'll be fast enough to run around the enemy unit and escape harm).

Bugburger

You have: 2 grasshoppers, 1 pill bug w/1 bomb, 1 jumping spider
1 mosquito w/3 bombs, 1 flea
They have: 1 commander, 2 ants w/1 firecracker each, 1 cockroach
1 grasshopper, 1 rhino beetle (!)
Win by: Killing enemy
You will meet your first rhino beetle on this stage and you'll
find out just how hard they actually are. You start
out with a disadvantage in power, get used to it,'cause from
now on all your fights will be like this. But enough of my
whining, it's time to find out how to beat them!
DON'T let the mosquito fly, if he even tries to take off
the enemy ants will nail him with their skyrockets. Let your
pill bug get in throwing range, and get your mosquito to walk to the
open satchet. Get one of your grasshoppers and your flea to
attack the firecracker ants.Make your flea arrive just before
the grasshopper, so he attracts all the attention (this is because
he will lose to the ant anyway, the grasshopper should win in
the fight with the other ant). While the enemy is preoccupied, let
your mosquito and pill bug bomb the mass of enemies, concentrating
on the commander and rhino beetle. Get any surviving units to
retreat to a safe distance, then get them all into a group.
Have them attack the remaining units, preferably the rhino
beetle and cockroach first (they should have survived the
bombs) then any other units. If the commander survived, go for him
first as he is your main target.

Head-on

You have: 1 praying mantis, 2 pill bugs w/2 bombs each, 1 cockroach
4 grasshoppers, 3 ants.
They have: 3 praying mantis's (!), 1 rhino beetle, 1 wasp, 3 ants,
1 ant w/2 rocks, 1 ant w/1 cheese & 2 bombs, 2 diving beetles.
Win by: Killing enemy
You have a severe disadvantage in power and a slight disadvantage in
numbers, but as I said before, this is commonplace from now on.
Get all your units excluding the grasshoppers on top of your mint
packet. Make the pill bugs go to the very top (north) of your packet,
ready to throw bombs at approaching enemies. Get the grasshoppers in
a little group to the right of the packet. As the ants with the weapons
approach, split your grasshoppers into two groups of two, and have
them attack each ant. After this have them delay the rest of the enemy.
When the enemy gets too close, have your pill bugs bomb them (the wasp
will usually fly to avoid the bomb blast so don't bomb the wasp). After
your bomb supply is exhausted have the pill bugs join the rest of your
units who should be at the part of the packet that has been opened.
Your large army should shred through the approaching enemies, as they
generally arrive in groups of one first. After you have slaughtered
the enemy army, send your remaining units to capture the buns to the
north. On the way you'll probably need to make a detour, as the ant
with the cheese often drops it in the chokepoint between the oil to the
north. When you get to the guarding praying mantis, have your unit
with the most health attack first.

Ant eat 'em

You have: 3 ants, 2 ants w/1 skyrocket each, 3 cockroaches, 2 bees
w/1 bomb each, 1 praying mantis, 3 grasshoppers
They have: 2 wasps w/1 bomb each, 2 pill bugs w/1 skyrocket each,
3 jumping spiders, 2 spiders, 3 cockroaches, 2 pill bugs
Win by: Killing enemy
Don't throw your skyrockets at the enemy wasps until they are in
attacking range, that is, when they can be attacked by your units.
This can be tricky, try gathering your units in a group around your
watermelon or sandwich, save your game and if you get bombed, re-load.
If you get a message about there being something in the way when you
get your ants to throw their rockets, move them around until they can
throw.
After killing the wasp or wasps (usually you will only get one with
your trick), gather your units into 2 groups of 8, one to guard the
watermelon, the other for the sandwich. If you lose the fight, reload
then try different combinations. Also be wary of a cockroach or that
other wasp who may try to sneak past your units and grab the salami
on the other side of the 'dung chow river.'

Who's guarding the food?

You have: 1 flea, 1 ant w/4 bombs, 2 poisons & 4 rocks
They have: 1 praying mantis, 1 grasshopper, 1 stink bug, 1 pill bug,
1 water bug
Win by: Killing enemy
Get your ant to walk all the way to the right, until a cord blocks
further movement. Have the flea jump onto the lower row of dominoes
(the one without the stamp), then have him walk to the bun. Your ant
should unload his bomb supply when the praying mantis and grasshopper
are close together. While he is doing this, have the flea _walk_ to the
end of the domino pathway. If the grasshopper and mantis survive the
bombs, then throw one rock at each of them. Have the flea jump over to
the water bug and attack him. Get the ant to make his way to the flea,
using the domino 'bridge.' Make your flea run around the bun to avoid
getting in a fight with the pill and stink bugs. When the ant arrives,
have him hurl his rocks at the pill bug, and throw the poison at the
stink bug. Then get the ant and flea to gang up on the pill bug first,
then the stink bug.

Counter attack

You have: 1 ant, 1 ant w/1 skyrocket & 1 cheese, 2 fleas, 2 mosquitoes
2 grasshoppers, 1 pill bug w/2 rocks
They have: 2 grasshoppers, 1 spider, 1 cockroach, 2 jumping spiders,
1 bee
Win by: Killing enemy
Have your ant throw his cheese as far to the left as he can to slow
down the enemy. Have your ant throw a skyrocket at the bee, you need to
weaken the enemy as much as possible in this level. Straight after this,
get one of your mosquitoes and your other ant to attack the bee. Your
units should just try and gang up on every enemy unit that attacks you.
If you are getting desperate, have your pill bug throw rocks at the
enemies you find most annoying. Make sure he throws one at the spider
though, he's the unit who can win them the battle.

(thanks to Losung's great Battle bugs FAQ, for half of this level
walkthrough. If i could write in German and could find his e-mail address
I would thank him)

Hold the fries

You have: 2 assassin bugs, 2 moths, 3 pill bugs, 1 pill bug w/2 bombs,
1 ant w/2 bombs, 2 ants, 1 commander
They have: 3 praying mantis's, 2 grasshoppers, 2 commanders (!),
2 lightning bugs, 2 jumping spiders
Win by: Killing enemy
See how you have two assassin bugs, and they have two commanders?
You need to get your assassin bugs to assassinate the commanders.
It sounds simple, but your assassin bugs aren't strong enough to kill
the commanders, only severely wound them. Have your assassin bugs attack
the commanders, and have the rest of your units (excluding the moths and
units with bombs) surround your commander to protect him.
Get your units with the bombs to jump into the moths, then fly them over
to the commanders. When they arrive, have them throw their bombs.
This combined with the assassin bugs attacks should be enough to kill
them. Have your bomb units chase after the rest of the enemy army,
throwing a bomb at them if they get in range, but are not yet attacking
your units. If your commander dies, you may have to do some suicide
attacks with the bombs, but hopefully it won't come to that stage.
Note: It actually did come to that stage with my game and I managed to
survive it too, due to my suicide bombing.

A just & honorable pizza

This level and more coming soon!
