Welcome to my Throne of Darkness FAQ. This FAQ was designed to aid you
through your quest while you play through Throne of Darkness. Please
send me any mistakes you find at SPop6@aol.com. Enjoy!

One more thing, I also play Throne of Darkness online a lot. My account
name there is Tetnis. I'm always willing to help a new player, so feel
free to drop me a line.

Please note that this guide is insanely far from completion, so please
don't send me e-mail asking when It's going to be complete, because
it's going to take a while.

Feel free to print this guide and distribute it, as long as it is not
changed in any way, shape, or form.

There are a few things you should know if you have never played Throne
of Darkness before. I will try to cover as much as I can. The words in
parentheses show what the keyboard shortcut for that field is.

Start-Up Menu
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
The start-up menu is pretty self-explanatory; here you can start a new
game, load a game, login to multi-player, set your options, view the
credits, and exit the game.

Attacking (Left Click)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Attacking is quite simple. Left click is your normal attack, and right
click is the spell you currently have equipped.

Spells (Right Click)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
To use your currently equipped spell right click on your mouse. To
change a spell click on your current spell picture and a list will come
up. Click on the spell you wish to change to. (Your spell is pictured
next to your ki. (the blue orb))

There are three types of spells:

Continuous Affect: This type of spell is always on, you do not half to
right click to cast it. These spells usually have no ki cost.

Permanent Increase: These types of spells permanently increase one of
your stats. Again, these spells require no ki to cast. These spells
will not appear in your spell selection list.

Attacking Spell: These spells will usually damage the enemy; they
require ki to be casted.

Orbs
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
You will notice a red and blue orb at the bottom of your screen. The
red orb contains your current health. Once your health reached 0 your
character will be killed. The blue orb contains ki, if your ki reaches
0 then you cannot cast anymore spells.

Inventory (I)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Your inventory is where you can access the priest and blacksmith. You
can also equip items. Your inventory has items currently being held; it
also shows your current amount of gold for that character.

Potions(1, 2, 3, and 4)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
There are four different potions in the game, they are as followed:

1: Red Potion (Health Potion)
Affect: Heals Life

2: Blue Potion (Ki Potion)
Affect: Heals Ki

3: Green Potion (Restorative Potion)
Affect: Cures Both Ki & Health

4: Yellow Potion (Remedy)
Affect: Cures Poison

Potions can be purchased from the priest, or found. The larger the
potion the more it cures. (And usually the more expensive.)

One last thing about potions; each type of potion can go in a certain
spot of your characters belt. The red potion goes in slot 1, the blue
in slot 2, the green in slot 3, and the yellow in slot 4. Members of
your party that you are not controlling will use potions automatically.
Once a potion is used another potion of that type will be automatically
placed with one from your inventory.

Party Information
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
You control a clan of seven characters; you can control four of these
characters at any one time. You can switch back and forth between
characters at any time. You can only control one character at a time;
the computer will control the remaining characters.

If one of your characters dies simply teleport them back to the shrine
room and get them off your party. If the Daimyo has half of his magic
filled, then click on your currently dead character's picture (his
picture will be grayed if he is dead) and he will become revived.

Daimyo Interface (D)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Your party can return to the shrine room at any time by accessing the
Daimyo interface and clicking on the character's portrait that you wish
to send back. To get members back on your team, you need to do 2
things. First, make sure there is an open spot available in the party.
(Remember, there's a maximum of four.) Next you must access the Daimyo
interface and click on one of the party member's portraits on the right
side of the screen that you wish to have on your party.

To resurrect a dead party member, send them back to the shrine room and
click on their grayed portrait.

The Daimyo also has magic, magic is required to teleport party members
and resurrect characters. The current magic is shown in the center of
the Daimyo interface. (The blue orb in the center of the Daimyo
interface is the magic the Daimyo currently has.) If the Daimyo does
not have enough magic then he cannot use his commands.

While in the shrine room your party will automatically gain back health
and ki.

Poison
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
If your character is poisoned he turns green. Use a remedy potion to
cure this. Poison gradually drains your character's life.

Priest (P)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
The priest can be accessed after a certain part of the game. There is
an in game tutorial for the priest. Simple click the question mark.

Blacksmith (B)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
The blacksmith can be accessed after a certain part of the game. There
is an in game tutorial for the priest. Simple click the question mark.

The blacksmith is the only person that can sell items, and repair them.

Tactics
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Your party can travel in certain formations, and attack in certain
ways. There are twelve different tactics total, you can switch or turn
off your current tactic at any time. You can edit each individual
tactic at any time by using the tactic editor.

Tactics Editor (T)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
The tactics editor has an in game tutorial, simple click the question
mark.

                            Starting Out
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

If you decide to use Clan Mori then use this walkthrough.

When the game starts out do a few things. Get used to the game play,
shoot a few spells, set up a tactic, and swing a sword or 2.

Your starting party contains a Leader, Archer, and the Brick, this
party actually isn't half bad.

You can return to the shrine room at any time, when you do your party
will automatically gain life and ki.

Please remember to empty chests, I won't list every chest location,
because they are quite noticeable. Please take note that some chests
are trapped.

One last thing about opening chests. Barrels, baskets, et cetera
contain items as well, but red barrels are always trapped with
explosions. Don't touch those unless you have to.

Oh one more thing, please use your map (press M to access it); I can't
stress the importance of using it.

=======================================================================
 Quest Start - 1st Quest - Reclaim Our Castle From The Dark Warlord's
                             Minions
=======================================================================

                        Location Information
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Dungeon Name: Mori Bedroom
Enemies: Dead Foot Soldier, Shadow Soldier
Bosses: ---
Special Items: ---
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Good god, that's a long quest name. Anyway, when the game starts empty
the chests in the dojo and head down the stairs, which is located in
the right side of the dojo.

Empty the chests in this room, and if you would like explore this level
for EXP and items. After you do this head down the steps found at the
beginning of the level.

                        Location Information
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Dungeon Name: Mori Dining Room
Enemies: Dead Foot Soldier, Shadow Commander, Shadow Soldier, Skeleton
Archer
Bosses: ---
Special Items: ---
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

At this time you may want to go into the lizard tactic with everyone on
aggressive, and melee. (Unless you found a bow for your archer, if you
did then put him on ranged.)

You should find the Swordsman in this level. Talk to him, he'll tell
you he's tired and he needs to rest in the shrine room. Wait there
until the Swordsman has recovered and bring him back on your team when
ready. (It's better to have 4 people instead of 3.)

Go down into the next room and follow the path until you get to a door.
Open the door and head into this room. Take out the enemies here and
continue up to the next room.

When you get to this room defeat all the enemies (easier said then
done) and break the pile of objects, which is located on the right hand
side of this room. Open this door and head into the next room.

Defeat the enemies in this room and head to the right hand side of it.
Continue up through a door into another room.

Here you'll find the Wizard. He'll tell you he needs to rest in the
shrine room. If you want the Wizard on your team (which isn't a bad
idea, because he becomes insanely powerful with awesome spells later on
in the game) then wait there until he has recovered, remove one of your
current members, and bring him on your team.

Before you head down the steps to the next level you may want to
explore the unexplored region of this level for chests, and EXP.

Now head down the steps into a new level.

                        Location Information
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Dungeon Name: Mori Throne Room
Enemies: Dead Foot Soldier, Shadow Commander, Shadow Soldier, Skeleton
Archer
Bosses: ---
Special Items: ---
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Continue along the path to your left, clearing out all enemies along
the way until you reach a door. Go down into this new room.

Keep on continuing down through a row of rooms, killing all enemies,
until you reach the main hallway again. From here go right along the
path all the way to the end of the hallway.

You should see a door at the end of the hallway being blocked by a pile
of objects. Knock down the pile of stuff and head through this door.

When you get to this room kill off all the enemies and head to the
upper left hand corner of the room. As you can see the room is quite
large so go off and explore for chests and items in the corners of the
room. Here you will see a door blocked by a pile of objects, break down
the pile and enter this new room.

Here you will see the Ninja, click on him, he'll tell you that he'll
wait in the shrine room until he is needed. The Ninja is an awesome
character, and many players rate him the best in the game. He has
awesome ranged, and melee attacks with a wide variety of awesome
spells. You may want to strongly consider having him in the party.

Before you head down the steps to the next level you may want to
explore the unexplored region of this level for chests, and EXP.

Now head down the steps into a new level.

                        Location Information
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Dungeon Name: Mori Ground Floor
Enemies: Neanderskull, Shadow Commander, Skeleton Archer
Bosses: Buaku the Blade
Special Items: Buaku's Blade
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

As soon as you enter this room you will be confronted with the
Berserker. He's pretty mad because he can't seem to stop the enemies
from coming. He'll tell you that it's your turn to deal with them. He
then teleports to the shrine room where he'll wait until he is needed.
The Berserker is a really strong melee attacker. If it's an awesome
melee character you're looking for, than look no further than the
Berserker.

After the scene with the Berserker, head towards the upper left hand
corner of the room. Open the door here and enter this new room. Watch
out for the Neanderskulls, they can be a real pain this early in the
game.

Once you reach this new room head right and open this door. Here Buaku
the Blade will come running after your party. If you aren't ready to
face him then close the door and get prepared.

                             Boss Fight
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Party Information
=================

Suggested Party: Berserker, Brick, Leader and Swordsman
Suggested Level Of Party: 2

Boss Information
================

Name: Buaku the Blade
Life Amount: Large
Melee Attack: Yes
Spell Attack: Yes
Ranged Attack: No
Strong Against: Spells, Ranged Attacks
Weak Against: Melee Attacks
Item Gained: Buaku's Blade

Strategy: Buaku the Blade does have some ranged spells, but he doesn't
use them often, so running away is simple. I highly suggest a party
that has a nice amount of life, and can do great melee damage. He is
almost immune to spells and ranged attacks, so the Ninja, Wizard, and
Archer may not be that effective.

Make sure to use the Lizard tactic, and approach him as a group, this
should keep him stunned, because so many people are attacking at once.
Remember to please use melee attacks.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

After the battle with Buaku the Blade switch back to your usual party
and head back the way you came in. (I don't suggest keeping the party I
suggested, they all specialize in melee, and the party would be very
unbalanced.)

When you reach the large entrance room stay against the upper wall and
locate the door that is located right next to a large drum. You will be
automatically taken to the Mori Outer Citadel as soon as you open this
door.

Before you go to the Mori Outer Citadel feel free to explore the rest
of this level for EXP and items.

After you finish exploring for EXP and items open the door and open the
Mori Outer Citadel.

                        Location Information
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Dungeon Name: Mori Outer Citadel
Enemies: Neanderskull, Dead Foot Soldier, Shadow Commander, Shadow
Soldier, Skeleton Archer
Bosses: Majin
Special Items: ---
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

=======================================================================
 Quest Start - 2nd Quest - Enlist The Aid Of The Priest And Blacksmith
=======================================================================

(That's an odd quest name.)

As soon as you enter the Mori Outer Citadel a quest will begin. The
Daimyo will tell you that you need to find the priest and the
blacksmith if you want to travel with more ease.

Simply go to the right and follow a path to a new area, the Daimyo may
say that the priest has left the temple, and he needs to be found. (The
Daimyo may or may not say this; it all depends on how long it took you
to reach this area.)

Continue following the path to your right and you will eventually
reach, what looks like, a forbidden city.

Eventually the Daimyo will tell you that the Blacksmith has left his
forge and he needs to be found. (This will happen after about five
minutes of exploring.)

Stay downward in this large area and you will eventually reach large
step platforms that lead into a new area. Continue heading down and you
will eventually reach a large door. Open this door and go down the step
platforms, access the portal to the right of the steps, feel free to
teleport back to the Shrine Room to heal.

After you heal and get a good, strong party together head back to the
area with the teleporter and get ready for a boss fight against Majin.

                             Boss Fight
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Party Information
=================

Suggested Party: Ninja, Wizard, Archer, and Leader
Suggested Level Of Party: 3

Boss Information
================

Name: Majin
Life Amount: Medium
Melee Attack: No
Spell Attack: Yes
Ranged Attack: No
Strong Against: Melee
Weak Against: Ranged, Spells
Item Gained: Jade, Soul of Buddah

Strategy: Majin is really hard for appearing so early. First take out
his bodyguards, then immediately attack him with ranged attacks and
spells. Make sure the Leader has a bow equipped. Melee characters won't
be effective at all, because they will be knocked back quickly and
won't be able to hit Majin.

Majin has devastating knock back attacks, so be prepared to have a
party member or two killed off. If you need to retreat and heal, then
use the teleporter and head back to the shrine room.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

=======================================================================
Quest Complete - 1st Quest - Reclaim Our Castle From The Dark Warlord's
                             Minions
=======================================================================

Congratulations, you've just completed your first quest.

Now, change back to your usual party (although the suggested one isn't
half bad to get through the game with) and heal.

Now head back to the area where you fought Majin and head down. You
will see two, very large, double doors, open them, as soon as you step
out into this new area the Daimyo will tell you that your forces have
been weakened, and you need to go to Oda to get reinforcements.

=======================================================================
   Quest Start - 4th Quest - Seek Out Our Allies In The Next Castle
=======================================================================

(I think Sierra and Click Entertainment could have done a better job at
naming these quests.)

Continue heading down the platform steps and you will see a man at the
bottom, this is the blacksmith. Talk to him, he'll tell you that he's
in your debt and he will return to his forge. Finally you can use the
blacksmith's skills and repair, buy, and give items. About dang time!
Before the blacksmith leaves he will tell you that the priest is in the
southeast wilderness helping villagers.

Before you go off to find the priest, make sure you explore the rest of
the Citadel for EXP and items. The Citadel can offer some great EXP
because it has lots of enemies.

Now, head down the southeast path until you reach a new area, the Mori
Wilderness.

                        Location Information
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Dungeon Name: Mori Wilderness
Enemies: Bake Yoroi, Gaki, Ice Wolf Clan, Scorpion Dragon
Bosses: Debu, Umagoroshi
Special Items: ---
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Talk to the man with the cane, he is the priest. He will tell you that
he will bring the remaining survivors to the outer citadel. Now the
priests skills can finally be used, you can buy potions, offer items,
identify items, and purify items. Finally!

=======================================================================
     Quest Complete - 2nd Quest - Enlist The Aid Of The Priest And
                              Blacksmith
=======================================================================

After you talk to the priest and the villagers teleport out of the
wilderness talk to the remaining guy. He will tell you that the
villager's wives were kidnapped. Looks like we have to save them.

=======================================================================
    Quest Start - 3rd Quest - Rescue The Villagers Imprisoned Nearby
=======================================================================

(Geesh, these are insanely corny quest names.)

Simply follow the path down and stay to the right. Eventually you will
see another path that extends out to the right, follow this, it will
lead into a large area. Stay downward in the large area. And follow
another path that leads into a town. The enemies here are quite deadly,
so be prepared to lose a guy or two. Stay on the upper portion of this
town and continue to the right.

You should eventually reach a large machine being controlled by a
creature named Debu. The machine has a stream of blood pouring out of
it and is guarded by Gakis.

First you must kill off all the bodyguards and provoke Debu, he will
eventually come after your party. Minimal preparation is needed for
this boss.

                             Boss Fight
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Party Information
=================

Suggested Party: Archer, Leader, Ninja, and Swordsman
Suggested Level Of Party: 3

Boss Information
================

Name: Debu
Life Amount: Large
Melee Attack: Yes
Spell Attack: No
Ranged Attack: No
Strong Against: Melee, Ranged, Spells
Weak Against: None
Item Gained: Debu Blubber x2

Strategy: Debu is actually a very easy boss; his bodyguards are the
real problem. After you kill off his bodyguards (easier said then done)
Debu will get quite angry and start chasing your party.

Simply use ranged attacks and melee to take him out quickly. If you
have a melee character then he may die because Debu has a very strong
melee attack. Debu has an insane amount of life and is resistant to
everything. So it's going to take a while to take him out. Simply use a
bow to continually stun him this way he can't attack. If you are using
the suggested party then make sure to equip the Leader with a bow.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

After the battle, head up and you will see imprisoned women, break down
one of the walls and talk to one of the women, they will express there
gratitude and teleport out of the area.

=======================================================================
  Quest Complete - 3rd Quest - Rescue The Villagers Imprisoned Nearby
=======================================================================

Now, head down across a field of, what looks like, vegetation. After
you finish crossing this field you will be back on the main path. Now
continue to head down.

You should eventually see a portal guarded by a group of skeleton
archers. Kill them all and the Daimyo will appear on the screen. He
will tell you that you need to reclaim all the portals before the dark
warlord does.

=======================================================================
   Quest Start - 6th Quest - Secure All Portal Gates Across The Land

Continue heading south; make sure not to go onto a different path. The
monsters on the optional paths are insanely hard and they can easily
take out a party member in a hit or two.

Stay on the southern path until you can't go down any father, now turn
left and get ready for a really hard fight.

There are a lot of Bakr Yoroi here that inflict some serious poison
damage, so have remedies ready. After this continue along the path and
get ready two Kappas and a boss, Umagoroshi.

Take out the Kappas before heading for Umagoroshi.

                             Boss Fight

Party Information
=================

Suggested Party: 4
Suggested Level Of Party: Archer, Leader, Ninja, and Wizard

Boss Information
================

Name: Umagoroshi
Life Amount: Small
Melee Attack: Yes
Spell Attack: No
Ranged Attack: No
Strong Against: Melee
Weak Against: Ranged, Spells
Item Gained: None

Strategy: First off, make sure the two Kappas guarding Umagoroshi are
dead. Umagoroshi is a really easy boss is you can keep him continually
stunned. He can inflict some serious poison damage and he has an
insanely strong melee attack, so do be cautious. Whatever you do, don't
bring a melee character along.

You're going to have to go all out with ranged attacks and spells. If
Umagoroshi comes close to your party then head back and continue to
attack him from afar. Umagoroshi has little life, so the battle
shouldn't take long. You may also want to stay in the Lizard tactic,
your group will stay really close together this way and they will be
able to retreat more easily. If you're using the suggested party then
have the Leader equip a bow.
