JUNE 17, 2002
UPDATE: Worked on the walkthrough big time today. I covered the CAVE
areas, and the PALACE that appears in the first Onimusha game. I also
added more monsters.

JUNE 16, 2002
UPDATE: I _FINALLY_ received the game! I started playing it, and I
started the walkthrough. I know the FAQ is horribly incomplete right
now, but that's because there is no language options (It's completely in
Japanese, unlike Genma Onimusha and Onimusha: Warlords. But many of the
sections have been worked out so far, and more work will progress
throughout the summer.

JUNE 8, 2002
UPDATE: Added more to the FAQ.

JUNE 1, 2002
UPDATE: Ordered the game, formatted the FAQ.

1. ONIMUSHA 2: SAMURAI'S DESTINY FAQ INTRODUCTION

========================================================================

This FAQ covers the Japanese version of Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny
for the Sony PlayStation 2. When the game is released in the U.S.A., the
FAQ will cover it as well. Onimusha: Warlords, Genma Onimusha, and
Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny are copyright 2002 by Capcom Japan. I
don't own any of the rights to those games.

This FAQ may only be found on:

www.gamefaqs.com
www.neoseeker.com
www.psxcodez.com

Those websites keep the FAQ up to date, and are the most visited
websites based on the PlayStation 2 console.

This FAQ, as of right now, is meant for the Japanese version, as said
earlier. With that in mind, it will be difficult for me to write for
this game, but that challenge will eventually be overcome with the U.S.
version. But for now, please cope with the Japanese-version FAQ. It is
written from an English speaker who knows little Japanese. Unlike the
first Onimusha, Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny is JAPANESE-ONLY. Import
at your own risk.

Onto the FAQ.

========================================================================

2. GAME BASICS

========================================================================

A. CONTROLS
-----------

SQUARE: Slash sword
R1: Ready sword, before slashing with SQUARE
L1: Defense
START: Item Screen
SELECT: Options
CIRCLE: Confirm/Action button
X BUTTON: Absorb souls in battle
RIGHT ANALOG STICK: Access the map
D-PAD: Move character

B. FIGHTING TACTICS
-------------------

SLASH, SLASH, SLASH!
Kill and don't stop slashing. You may end up kicking a few enemies, but
press UP to keep slashing. Try to stab them when they're on the ground
for an instant kill.

ABSORB ALL ORBS!
Yes, they are crucial to your survival. The more orbs you get, the more
upgrading you can do.

LOOK FOR CHESTS!
Inside are items which can heal Jubei in time of need. GREEN HERBS are
usually what are in there, though you might see other items, too.

GRAB THE JEWELS!
In the ground after killing monsters are jewels. They have value, and
are apparently used as currency (I can be wrong, though).

SUPER JUBEI!
Possibly, if you've killed enough monsters, and absorb their souls, you
might become SUPER JUBEI! Resembling Super Dante in Devil May Cry, he
becomes way more powerful. Unfortunately, it lasts for a few seconds
only.

LET PEOPLE HELP YOU!
Every so often, some guy with a shotgun or a big guy will assist you in
battle. They will help you, and in some cases, even help against bosses.

C. HEALTH
---------

YELLOW ORBS
These recharge your health. They come when Jubei's health is low. Try to
collect these as much as possible.

GREEN HERB
Like BioHazard/Resident Evil, this recharges a little bit of health to
Jubei. You can transform this into MEDICINE by spending PURPLE ORBS in
the MAGIC MIRROR.

MEDICINE
These can sometimes be found in chests, but you can upgrade GREEN HERBS
to these by spending a certain amount of PURPLE ORBS.

D. ORBS
-------

After killing off demons and getting that symbol marked on your hand,
you can absorb orbs that fly into the air. Here are the orbs in the game
encountered thus far. Small orbs usually provide a little bit of what
they offer, while middle sized ones offer moderate gifts. Giant ones
offer a whole lot.

YELLOW ORBS
These recharge your health. They come when Jubei's health is low. Try to
collect these as much as possible.

PURPLE ORBS
These fill up the gauge on the bottom. It is basically money used for
powering up your swords and armor. Use these on MAGIC MIRRORS when
powering up your supplies.

BLUE ORBS
Apparently, BLUE ORBS can be collected. Enough of them will turn you
into SUPER JUBEI.

E. SAVING
---------

In the game, there are MAGIC MIRRORS (a wooden cage with a blue light in
it). The first option to select is SAVE. You will need a PlayStation 2
Memory Card and 390 KB of data left to save the game. In the Japanese
version, the first option is to save (when you examine the MAGIC
MIRROR). Then select the first option given to you.

========================================================================

3. WALKTHROUGH

========================================================================

NOTE: All names are strictly from my non-Japanese language point of
view. The game uses A LOT of Kanji, and Kanji is imported from Chinese.
Kanji is the most complicated writing system in Japan, and I don't
understand a lot. There is also a lot of Hiragana and a little bit of
Katakana. I READ (NOTE: *NOT* understand) them fairly decently, but
there is a load of Kanji making the game difficult to read out.

************************************************************************
HUNTING FOR POWER
************************************************************************

After listening to the prologue which documents the events in Onimusha:
Warlords/Genma Onimusha, a war goes on in a village. People are
murdered, and snakes are everywhere. A lone warrior, Jubei, walks into
the village. He sees a dead corpse, and hears a voice, calling him.

VILLAGE
Run down from the camera angle and down a set of stairs. You'll see a
cut-scene with a wounded man. Suddenly, the poor guy is attacked by
three soldiers, engaging you into battle. You will begin battling them,
so use your sword and slash them all to pieces. They fall after one hit,
but get up after a while, so make sure they're dead. After the battle,
run all the way down under a red entrance pier toward the forest area.
Go through the door at the end.

FOREST PATH
Run to the left and kill a few more soldiers. Check the chest across the
bridge for a FOREST MAP. You'll hear someone calling Jubei, too, so
follow the path. Go through a double door at the end.

SPRING
Watch the cut-scene by walking forward. A door opens, and a woman
continues to call for your voice. To the left of the spring is a MAGIC
MIRROR where you can save your game and upgrade, just like the first
Onimusha. But for now, move across the stones and through the cave door.

CAVE
Walk straight down the cave, and pass that purple glowing light. You'll
see something rise from the ground, but continue down the cave. Go
through the double doors at the end.

POND HOUSE
You'll see that a purple light turn into a woman, who has been calling
you. She immobilizes Jubei and makes a symbol in his hand. She then
tells a story and you get some kind of SPHERE and a file, which tells
about the controls in the game. To the left is a chest with a HERB
inside of it. Like the Resident Evil/BioHazard series, GREEN HERBS heal
some of your health. Return through the door you went through.

CAVE
Run back through here to the SPRING. On your way, you'll get attacked by
a few soldiers, but this time after killing them, you can absorb their
souls by pressing X after they die. That purple sphere you saw earlier
contains souls that you can absorb.

SPRING
Skip across the stones again, and there's a chest hidden in the trees
with a GREEN HERB. Go to the MAGIC MIRROR. Watch the cut-scene, and
you'll get a new sword, which I only the last part's pronunciation
because it's Katakana. Watch the following cut-scene. You'll see a cut-
scene in the village. Jubei will be there, and will practically kick a
few guys' asses.

************************************************************************
VILLAGE EXPLORATION
************************************************************************

VILLAGE STREET
Run up the stairs you see in the distance.

VILLAGE MARKET
The chest nearby holds some kind of SPHERE in a holder. Run through the
area and exit on the other side.

VILLAGE BARN
Run around and talk to everyone, and then exit the room.

VILLAGE MARKET
Run across back to the VILLAGE STREET.

VILLAGE STREET
Run across the area and through the open door at the end.

GEAR HOUSE
To your left, flip a switch to lower a lift. Then turn right and run
across until you hit a barrel. Slash it with your sword, proceed, and
slash all other barrels with the sword. If the lift rises before you
can get on, use the switch pull again to lower it. Inside the chest is a
PAPER. Ride the lift up to a yellow chest with a BOW and ARROWS. Now
ride the lift down and exit the room.

VILLAGE STREET
The chest nearby has a VILLAGE MAP. Run left of the GEAR HOUSE and up a
small flight of stairs.

FOREST STAIRPATH
Run up and kill every soldier you see. On the chest to the left is a
TELESCOPE. Continue up the pathway and up the stairs.

WOODED AREA
Some man is blocking you from going further, so return down the stairs.

FOREST STAIRPATH
On your way back to the VILLAGE STREET, more soldiers will come, so kill
them all and absorb their souls.

VILLAGE STREET
Run to the middle of the area and through an open door. It is a shop.

VILLAGE BUILDING
Run up and watch a cut-scene. Once it ends, go up the stairs in this
room. You'll see a chest with a FAN in it. Go back downstairs, and run
to that spiked haired man. Run up to him, press start, and use the FAN
on him. You'll get BERRIES from him. To the left of the stairs, you'll
see a man guarding a door. Talk to him, and give him $100. You'll get a
NOTE. Run to an outside area in this room. There is a MAGIC MIRROR where
you can save the game and upgrade your items. Upgrade your new SWORD.
Exit the room.

VILLAGE STREET
Return to the FOREST STAIRPATH.

FOREST STAIRPATH
There will be more soldiers for you to battle, but Jubei will be able to
take care of them by now. Run up to the WOODED AREA.

WOODED AREA
The man will now let you pass. Run up to the chest to get a BOOK. Run
into the tunnel to see a cut-scene. Then run forward.

************************************************************************
CAVE AREAS
************************************************************************

WOODED CAVE
Run forward to the MAGIC MIRROR and save, and upgrade. Run forward into
the tunnel to the left of the MAGIC MIRROR.

WOODED CAVE TUNNEL
The chest nearby has a SCROLL in it. Now run up to the other chest and
there's a puzzle to solve.

************
CHEST PUZZLE
************

There are 4 arrows. There are 2 on the right hand side and 2 on the
bottom side. Press the TOP ARROW on the right side, and the LEFT ARROW
on the bottom side. You'll get another SCROLL. Now return to the WOODED
CAVE.

WOODED CAVE
Now take the tunnel right of the MAGIC MIRROR.

WOODEN BAMBOO TUNNEL
Walk up to the man and offer him your BERRIES. You'll get MEDICINE in
return. Proceed further down the tunnel, and in the chest is a TUNNEL
MAP. Proceed into another tunnel.

ALLIGATOR TUNNEL
You'll see a cut-scene with a new monster. It is the ALLIGATOR. The four
of them are vicious, so watch out and use the TRIANGLE BUTTON as well as
the SQUARE BUTTON to attack them. After killing them, proceed into the
next tunnel.

ALLIGATOR TUNNEL 2
Run up, and kill more ALLIGATORS. When you reach a fork, take the right
path.

ALLIGATOR TUNNEL 3
Run up, and kill all the ALLIGATORS. You'll then watch a cut-scene where
people help you out. The game will resume with someone helping you.
Continue fighting off ALLIGATORS. After it ends, watch another cut-
scene. Follow everyone, after the cut-scene.

CAVE TEMPLE
In the chest on the right is a SCROLL. Run up to the podium and you'll
see a cut-scene. You'll get a new weapon. It's a LONG SPEAR. It is super
powerful. Return to the previous room.

ALLIGATOR TUNNEL 3
Fight off more ALLIGATORS with your new LONG SPEAR. You'll get less orbs
for using the powerful weapon, so switch to the SWORD you usually use
just in case. Return to ALLIGATOR TUNNEL 2.

ALLIGATOR TUNNEL 2
Remember the fork? Well, take the other path now.

GLOWING OBJECT ROOM
Watch the cut-scene, and you'll see a YELLOW JEWEL on the ground. Grab
it, and head to the glowing object blocking an exit. Hit it with your
LONG SPEAR. Then proceed down.

LONG TUNNEL
Run forward, and you'll see a chest with MEDICINE inside. Further down
is a MAGIC MIRROR. Save and upgrade if you want. Further down is a stone
door. You'll use a BLUE ORB to open it, so go through.

MACHINE ROOM
Watch the cut-scene with the first boss of the game.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
BOSS # 1: FOUR-LEGGED WARRIOR
DIFFICULTY:
Well, take your SWORD and start slashing the hell out of the thing from
behind. When you take control of Jubei, make sure you hit it fast and
hard. It will block many shots it's facing. Don't be afraid to use GREEN
HERBS to heal damage.

At some point, the vicious monster will jump, so move out of the way to
compensate. Keep hacking and slashing. Use the TRIANGLE BUTTON sword
move, too. It'll also suck you up, so try to defend against it, because
it'll swipe you.

Eventually, the guy you saw earlier will show up to help, when the
monster's really, REALLY pissed off. During the battle, don't forget to
absorb souls.

When the monster's pissed, don't be afraid to use the TRIANGLE BUTTON.
It'll take a lot of hits to kill the monster. You'll need to use A LOT
of healing items.

Eventually, the monster will die after a load of assault. It'll give off
a lot of orbs and jewels. Follow that guy into the tunnel.
------------------------------------------------------------------------

WOUNDED MAN TUNNEL
Run passed the wounded man. Head down another tunnel.

CHEST TUNNEL
Run down, and destroy the brown stacks to reveal a chest.

********************
ANOTHER CHEST PUZZLE
********************

Here is the order of the puzzle:

RIGHT ARROW, bottom side
TOP ARROW, right side
LEFT ARROW, bottom side
BOTTOM ARROW, right side

You'll get another scroll! Thanks to Enemy Zero for the solution in his
PUZZLE SOLUTIONS FAQ!

The other chest holds some kind of SPHERE. Now exit the room.

WOUNDED MAN TUNNEL
Talk to the wounded man to see a cut-scene. You'll be back in the
VILLAGE BUILDING.

************************************************************************
VILLAGE/CAVES REVISITED
************************************************************************

VILLAGE BUILDING
Return downstairs after the man gives you a RED DONUT. Save your game if
you like and exit the room.

VILLAGE STREET
Return to the FOREST STAIRPATH.

FOREST STAIRPATH
Run down and you'll be attacked by MASKED WOMAN. They fight a lot like
SOLDIERS, and are a little weaker in stamina, too. They like to flip
away, though. Continue for the WOODED AREA.

WOODED AREA
Head into the WOODED CAVE.

WOODED CAVE
Take the right fork.

WOODEN BAMBOO TUNNEL
Proceed all the way down.

ALLIGATOR TUNNEL
Proceed all the way down again.

ALLIGATOR TUNNEL 2
Kill everything in here. Then proceed to the next tunnel. In the fork,
you'll get attacked by a SKELETON WARRIOR. Take the left fork.

GLOWING OBJECT ROOM
Those annoying monsters from Onimusha: Warlords and Genma Onimusha are
back. The ROLLING MONSTERS do a lot of rolling around and hurt Jubei's
health. Kick their asses with the LONG SPEAR. Those SOUL ABSORBING
MONSTERS from the first Onimusha games are here, too, so kill them and
take your souls back. Exit the tunnel.

LONG TUNNEL
Run down and use the MAGIC MIRROR if necessary. Then head into the
MACHINE ROOM.

MACHINE ROOM
You'll be forced to do more fighting, so fight all these monsters. After
prolonged fighting, enter the WOUNDED MAN TUNNEL.

WOUNDED MAN TUNNEL
See that gold thing in the middle? Use that RED DONUT in the item screen
and then head down the hole it creates.

************************************************************************
UNDERGROUND AREAS
************************************************************************

UNDERGROUND TEMPLE
Run forward to the giant door and after a cut-scene, fight off that
GIANT TOAD. After you destroy two off them, the giant door will unlock.
Go through.

SPIRALING STAIRCASE ROOM
Run up that spiraling staircase. You'll see a SKELETON MAN at the top.
Use the TRIANGLE BUTTON to stop it. Climb the staircase.

************************************************************************
[GENMA] ONIMUSHA: WARLORDS PALACE
************************************************************************

PALACE COURTYARD
Are we where I think we are? YES! We are in the infamous courtyard from
the first Onimusha! Unfortunately, they are using the Resident Evil 3:
Nemesis method of blocking off doors they don't want us to go through.
Run toward the PALACE and you'll see a cut-scene. Then enter the PALACE.

PALACE
Fight off a load of ALLIGATORS. Look in the chest for a POT. Take the
door on the left hand side of the room.

BLUE ORB ROOM
Unfortunately, they took away the MAGIC MIRROR here. Absorb all the BLUE
ORBS you can absorb. There is a puzzle here.

*************
NUMBER PUZZLE
*************

Place the 2 TILE on the bottom left corner.
Place the 7 TILE on the top left corner.
Place the 9 TILE on the bottom right corner.
I forgot the rest of the solution, but it shouldn't be hard to figure
out. You should get some kind of... thing. Call it the an AMULET.

Return to the PALACE.

PALACE
Take the double doors now.

GUARDIAN ROOM
Kill everything in here, so you can gain access to the door directly
across from the one leading to the PALACE.

PALACE CHEST ROOM
See the chest? It's another one of those PUZZLE BOXES...

************************
YET ANOTHER CHEST PUZZLE
************************

This time, there are 8 arrows. Try this solution:

BOTTOM ARROW, right side
RIGHT ARROW, top side
TOP ARROW, left side

You'll get a GOLD CREST. Head through the double doors now.

PALACE MAGIC MIRROR ROOM
Run down here, and kill everything. You'll also have to fight a METAL
SOLDIER, in which the TRIANGLE BUTTON can only defeat. Save, and upgrade
your items, too. Head through the door passed the MAGIC MIRROR.

PALACE STAIRWAY
Run down, and kill all the ALLIGATORS. Then run up the staircase.

TOP OF THE STAIRS
Run up, and a man will help you battle every monster in here. You'll
then see a cut-scene involving a baby and his dad. You'll then watch a
lot of drama. Take the double doors nearby.

PALACE 2ND FLOOR
Kill the monsters in here. Then take the door to the right of Jubei.

PALACE ROOM
Check the chest for a GREEN HERB. The shining item nearby is a NECKLACE.
Now examine the yellow wheel. Then return to the PALACE 2ND FLOOR.

PALACE 2ND FLOOR
Kill every monster, and then return to the TOP OF THE STAIRS.

TOP OF THE STAIRS
Go down the stairs.

PALACE STAIRWAY
Head to the door left of the stairs.

TABLE ROOM
See that dead body? Use the NECKLACE you found on it, to get another
AMULET on the ground. Grab it, and the YELLOW BOOK on the shelf.

4. STORY

========================================================================

A lone warrior named Samanosuke, and his companion, Kaede, went to the
village, to discover than Princess Yuki was kidnapped. Finding his way
through caves, monsters, and traps, he managed to find Princess Yuki and
a boy she took care of, and gets lost in a battle with an insane beast.

No one knows what ever happened to Samanosuke... but at the end, he's
seen, overlooking a castle, alive.

Now, 10 years later...

NOTE: This is judging from the scenes in the game. If anyone has a
translated synopsis, please tell me!

A village in feudal Japan starts the day off as usual, until an army
attacks it. People are killed one by one. A woman, protecting her child,
is stomped on. People try to aimlessly defend the village, but people
are burned, skewered and murdered, gruesomely.

A lone warrior, Yagyu Jubei, walks into the village, angry at what
happened, and vows to get revenge. He hears a woman call his name, and
follows the noise to a cave, where he is granted powers to absorb
spirits, and save the village.

5. ITEM LIST

========================================================================

COMING SOON!

========================================================================

6. MONSTER/BOSS LIST

========================================================================

SOLDIER
Wielding a sword, these guys are a little hard to kill. Slash them up
repeatedly and try to stab them when they're on the ground. They give
moderate amounts of orbs.

ALLIGATOR
These are pretty dangerous, but not too dangerous as a whole. Quickly
slash at them for more souls, and use the TRIANGLE BUTTON on them. There
are a lot of them in areas.

MASKED WOMAN
They fight a lot like SOLDIERS, and are a little weaker in stamina, too.
They like to flip away, though. Attack them with the LONG SPEAR for
maximum results.

SKELETON WARRIORS
These guys are tough, but not too tough when you use Jubei's special
attack through the TRIANGLE BUTTON. They inflict a lot of pain, but an
aggressive special attack will kill them before they can realize what
hit them.

ROLLING MONSTERS
Like the first Onimusha, their attacks when rolling are hard to avoid.
Use the LONG SPEAR against them to stop them in their tracks.

SOUL ABSORBING MONSTERS
They might be too high for Jubei to kill, but try using the LONG SPEAR.
After they die, which is a fairly easy thing to do, they release the
souls they stole from you. Capture the souls.

SHEILDED WARRIOR
These guys are great at blocking Jubei's attacks. So use Jubei's special
attacks with the TRIANGLE BUTTON to kill them instantly.

A. ONIMUSHA GAMES
-----------------

ONIMUSHA 2: SAMURAI'S DESTINY
RELEASE DATE: March 2002 (Japan); August 2002 (USA)
PLATFORM: Sony PlayStation 2
One of the best looking PlayStation 2 games, Onimusha 2: Samurai's
Destiny, has been the best selling PS2 game in 2002. Featuring character
Jubei Yagyu (or Yagyu Jubei, my interpretation of the Japanese speech is
weak), you sword sling through the game once again.

ONIMUSHA: WARLORDS
RELEASE DATE: Spring 2001
PLATFORM: Sony PlayStation 2
Onimusha: Warlords is an action game in feudal Japan. Featuring
Samanosuke, he had to rescue Princess Yuki. The game was extremely
successful; it was the first PS2 game to sell 1 Million in Japan and the
US. Though the graphics seemed a little dated compared to Resident Evil
CODE: Veronica X (released for the PS2 and Dreamcast around the same
time in Japan), it was because the game was meant to be on both
PlayStation and N64. Since then, it has spawned re-releases under the
"Mega Hits" label in Japan, the "Greatest Hits" label in the US and the
"Platinum" label in Europe.

GENMA ONIMUSHA
RELEASE DATE: Early 2002
PLATFORM: Microsoft XBOX
Microsoft decided to enter the console wars in early 2001. Their ultra-
powerful XBOX can do graphical effects the PlayStation 2 can't do.
Capcom, being the company they are, usually takes advantage of their
more successful games- by porting them to another console. And with the
XBOX's awesome power, they did just that. Making the game much more
difficult and adding new graphical effects, bosses, etc., Capcom re-
released the game for XBOX. It is basically the hardest version yet. If
Genma Onimusha were translated, it would mean Extremely Difficult Demon
Slaying (correct me if I'm wrong; my Japanese is weak). It says it all-
this is ultimately a harder version of the PS2 Onimusha: Warlords.
