(1) INTRODUCTION
==========================================================================

March, 1990

As part of America's Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI or "Star Wars") an
experimental satellite, SK2, was recently launched into earth orbit. For
some unknown reason the satellite has apparently fallen out of orbit and
crashed into the Alps. A few days ago, threatening letters were
simultaneously received in Washington and the Kremlin. The author of these
letters signed in the name of the Mafat Revolutionary Group. At first,
however, the existence of this groupd could no be verified.

Subsequently, terrorists demanded that the American government provide them
with the submarine, Los Angeles, a ship carrying missles with nuclear
warheads. Furthermore, they demanded that the Soviets turn over their
research on the military application of electromagnetic waves.

The group is reported to have stated "Unless our demands are met, the
satellites of the United States and the Soviet Union will fall!"

The disappearance of the SK2 is testimony to the group's power to follow
through on its threats.

Confusion and tension has led both the American and Soviet governments to
acuse each other of an insidious plot. Pressure between the East and West
is once again on the rise.

Meanwhile, Washington has ordered the CIA to investigate the so-called
Mafat Revolutionary Group. It now appears that Mafat does indeed exist.
However, its aims, leadership, and base of operations are unknown. The CIA
also reports that Dr. Barrows, the brains behind the satellite capture
technology who disappeared several years ago in England, is rumored to be
under confinement somewhere in Paris.

As The Mafat Conspiracy is about to unfold, we know that the CIA has
delivered an urgent request to Golgo 13, the ace sharpshooter. The
directive apparently asks Golgo 13 to:

     (1) Eliminate the leader of the Mafat Revolutionary Group.
     (2) Destroy the Satellite Capture System.
     (3) Bring back Dr. Barrows alive.

As we begin, Golgo 13 has accepted the CIA directive, and has left for
Paris.

==========================================================================
(7) WALKTHROUGH
==========================================================================

ACT 1
-----

.::1-1::.

Stage 1-1 is simple. Just quickly move through the stage and reach the
end. Any enemies that get in your way, kick them. They all die in one
hit. The only problems may be the enemies shooting at you. To deal with
them, wait until they shoot at you, then quickly advance and kick them
before they have a chance to fire again. Beating this stage allows you to
get your Python(gun). You'll also be prompted to go to Champ Elysees.
James also lets you know that the Mafat hideout has been found, but you'll
need a code to enter it.

.::1-2::.

In stage 1-2, you have your Python with you. Do not waste the bullets, as
you can only hold 30 at this time. Beware of the men walking, they will
shoot you rather quickly. If you see a enemy, quickly duck and fire at
them. But beware, some enemies will also duck and fire at you. Also watch
out, or you may get caught in a cross fire. Usually this will happen with
both enemies shooting while standing. Simply duck and you should be fine.

Enter the doorways to find more bullets. But be careful, enemies reside
inside and are quick to attack.

After getting past this stage, you meet Sylvia. Golgo 13 tells her the
password, and she gives him the code needed to enter the Mafat hideout.

.::1-3::.

This board is heavily covered with knife throwing enemies towards the
beginning. Also you have your first encounter with the grenade throwing
enemies. Beware of the shrapnel from the grenades, or else you could lose
a bit of life. This is also the first stage in which the enemies aren't
only on the ground, but also on rooftops.

Towards the end of the stage, you come to your first real 3D maze. This
maze is 4 floors. The first floor is the largest, and you may get lost.
There are 2 entrances to this level. Outside of the maze, in the
horizontal scrolling portion of the board, the doors are right next to each
other. The best door to enter is the one on the right. This gives you a
long path to follow, but without any extra turns which may throw you off
track. Just keep tapping Up to move forward. Holding down the button does
not work. When going down long paths, it may seem like your not moving,
but trust me, you are.

Once you reach the fourth floor, you'll run into Arm of Mafat. You've
found the hideout, and now learn that Dr. Barrows escaped in a helicopter.
And now you must fight Arm of Mafat.

BOSS:  Arm of Mafat
STRATEGY: Try to kick him towards the wall, then drop down and start doing
the sweep kicks at him. He should bounce of the wall a bit. So keep
juggling him, and you should finish him quite easily. Beware of his
dangerous sword attack. If he does manage to get out of your juggling
attack, quickly repeat the move and put him back into it.

After defeating Arm of Mafat, you learn the place will explode in 5
minutes. You must now race to the outside. Afterwards you get a
conversation screen with Gerbich, then James. Gerbich tries getting info
from Golgo 13, but to no avail.

ACT 2
-----

.::2-1::.

After passing through the horizontal scrolling board, you enter your first
3D Ferrari stage. This is very similar to a racing game.

You have 1:30 to get through the Ferrari stage. Beware of running into KGB
cars and the bombs they throw. These will slow you down drastically, the
bombs will actually cause you to spin out. When going around corners,
downshift to slow down a bit so you don't go off the road and slow down as
much.

After the Ferrari scene, you go into your first sniper screen. This can be
very tough, as the wind plays an important factor in whether you hit your
target or not. And in case your having trouble figuring out what to shoot,
your supposed to be aiming for the helicopter pilot. Once shot, the window
will turn very white, and then you'll have a scene where the helicopter
crashes into the mountains.

ACT 3
-----

.::3-1::.

Stage 3-1 is the first stage that actually requires you to jump. There are
a few gaps that if you miss, you fall into the water. And no matter how
talented Golgo 13 seems, he just can't swim. You will eventually reach a
maze that you must go through. Simply go to the very end, turn right, go
through the door at the end of the hall, and continue forward until you
reach another door.

.::3-2::.

Beware of enemies waiting on the other side of jumps. They will hit you in
midair, causing you to fall in the water. Shoot them before they have that
opportunity. After beating this stage, you will speak with James. He will
let you know about a map he found. Golgo also requests a gun with 60
rounds.

.::3-3::.

The same as stage 3-2, except backwards and at night. As usual, keep an
eye out for enemies on opposite sides of your jumps. They can be a real
hassle. After reaching the end of this board, you meet up with Sylvia
again. She gives you your S&W M56 with 60 rounds. She tells you about the
island and Ahmad Khan. She then hits on Golgo...an offer he can't refuse.
You see the two kiss...then act 3 is cleared.

ACT 4
-----

.::4-1::.

This stage takes place on top of a train. Make sure to jump over the
spaces between train sections. This is where you will also run into your
first enemies with shotguns. Which basically means two bullets that spread
as they go out.

.::4-2::.

You might not even realize you are in stage 4-2. You reach a point on the
train, the screen fades to black and you are back on top of the train in
stage 4-2. Basically this is the exact same as stage 4-1. Reach the end
and prepare for a boss fight.

BOSS:  Ahmad Khan
STRATEGY: Same as the first boss. Get him into the corner of the stage,
and do sweep kicks quickly as you can. You should be able to juggle him
between the stage edge and your kicks.

After you defeat Ahmad, Golgo interrogates him. Asking him where the Mafat
hideout is. Ahmad plays stupid and says he doesn't know. Golgo pulls the
gun on him, and Ahmad continues to play stupid. A few shots around Ahmad's
head, and he finally speaks. He says it is in Afghanistan. Golgo ask
where specifically, right as Ahmad is about to speak, he gets shot. Golgo
turns around to see a helicopter flying away.

ACT 5
-----

.::5-1::.

Stage 5-1 is basically in a dessert. This is also your first introduction
to the enemies with scythes. They jump around like damn jackrabbits. Just
becareful of them and the holes and you should be fine.

.::5-2::.

Agggh!!! Three new enemies as soon as you get into stage 5-2. You have
Monkey Man, Scorpion, and Boomerang Man. The scorpions can't be killed
with the gun, as they are to low to the ground. There is one point where
you jump onto a small piece of land between two holes. When you land in
this area, two boomerang enemies drop down on each side and try to take you
out. Quickly shoot them or else you may be knocked into a pit. If you are
hit however, quickly push the opposite direction in which you are going.
This helps stop you a bit.

.::5-3::.

This stage is in a cave. Another enemy first here in act 5 is the dog.
This is a very annoying enemy, similar to the scorpion in the fact it is to
low to hit with the gun. Wait until it jumps to shoot it.

.::5-4::.

5-4 is just a continuation of 5-3. Just continue on until you reach a
elevator looking area. This will take you to the next stage.

.::5-5::.

This stage is in a hightech type area. If you notice, the stage is
actually 6-5. I'm assuming it is one of many typos in the game. There is
a horde of knife throwing and grenade throwing enemies in this board. This
board will probably be the hardest one you've encountered yet. The amount
of enemies causes the game to slow down quite a bit. Which can be a real
pain. Just blast any enemy you see and try to jump over the shrapnel from
grenades. Once you reach the end, you will enter a maze. When you hear a
buzzing sound an see sensor type things on the wall, be careful. As soon
as you walk past it, a machine will rise from the ground and start firing,
blast it as it is coming up.

.::5-6::.

After coming out of part of the maze, you should end up in another hightech
stage. This one has enemies that use shields. Get behind them and shoot
them in the back to kill them. Also make sure you stay on the pink/purple
platforms, or else you may fall into a pit. When you reach the end, you
enter another maze. This maze has machines that come from the ceiling.
When you see one, immediately shoot it.

.::5-7::.

After the most difficult maze in the game you finally reach stage 5-7.
This stage has some real hectic jumps. You have to use the hi-jump many
times. When you reach the end, you face Canine. He is very similar to Arm
of Mafat.

BOSS:  Canine
STRATEGY: Get him in the corner and take him out with punches, as they
work real well against him. Just juggle him with rapid punches and
everything thing should be just fine.

After defeating Canine, you enter a room and find Dr. Barrows. You soon
find out this was his plan all along and that he is corrupt. He says that
everyone fell into his plan, and soon it will be over. And so will you.
You got 5 minutes to escape. And be prepared, as your about to make some
of the hardest jumps yet. One in particular, you have to get right at the
very, very edge of the platform before jumping, if your not close enough,
you'll fall short.

After escaping, you enter another Sniper sequence. This time you must take
out Dr. Barrows but he is walking. This makes it extremely difficult to
hit him, especially with the wind factor. Just try to get him in the head.
If you get the shot off...you'll see him fall. And then you enter another
sequence, learning more about the events that unfolded.

ACT 6
-----

In Act 6, you learn that James has defected, but not without sacrifices.
He ends up shooting Sylvia. She comes to Duke wounded, and tells of James
defection. She then dies in his arms.

Next you must chase down James in a Ferrari 3D screen. This is just like
the previous Ferrari screen. Simply reach the end before the timer reaches
zero.

After the Ferrari screen, you have another Sniper scene. This one is with
James walking up the airplane steps. Take him out, but per usual, watch
the wind. When he is shot, this ends the game with a rather gorey scene.
