2. Introduction
This is Ganbare Goemon for the Color Game Boy, the first GREAT Goemon for GB.
This is basically a heavily RPG based game. Final Fantasy, Zelda and Pokemon
players will get the hang of it quickly. In a Zelda-esque fashion there are two
worlds... Mystical World (where the great Goemon-4 live) and the real world
(Where Hajime comes from). You may change worlds via the enchanted tree.

3. Characters
*HAJIME - You start with him; he wears a yellow jersey and a blue cap.
He uses a pair of Yo-Yos to fight the enemies. Hajime is the all-rounder,
try to keep him at the head or middle of the group. He learns these spells:

TORNADO
ESCAPE (Outside of battle only; to escape a dungeon or boss area)
-In battle, this second option is REFLECT; makes a shield around one character;
any attack on him will reflect back to the enemy.)
HEAL (One member, outside of battle only)

*EBISUMARU - Fat blue guy.
Ebisumaru gets the most HP out of all the characters and can take the most
damage, so keep him in the middle of the party.

TRIPLE ATTACK
TEAM HEAL
TRICK

*SASUKE - Green robot with a ponytail.
Sasuke has the least HP but has a huge amount of NP and is good with Magic,
so keep him in the reserve slots until you really need him; never put him at the
head of the battle group. His defense rating is just AWFUL!

AUTUMN BREEZE
HEAL (One team member)
SASUKE-DESTRUCT

*YAE - Green-haired girl in the pink ninja suit.
Yae has the most MP but terrible attack power, keep her in reserve and only use
her in battle if you are up against a really hard opponent.

SNOWMAN ATTACK
RESTORE
BLIZZARD

*GOEMON - Blue-haired guy in the red outfit.
When you have Goemon, keep him at the head of the group, although his defense
will be slightly weaker. This puts his attacking power up to maximum!

DEFENCE UP
FIRE ATTACK
SPEED UP (?)

*OMITSU - She is the girl with the red kimono a brown hair.
Omitsu is Goemon's beloved girlfriend that pops up occasionally to help you.

*GOEMON IMPACT - Giant robot in a red and blue outfit that looks like Goemon.
Impact can be summoned for a special attack which does a lot of damage to the
entire enemy group.

4. Menu / Battle Screen Explanation / Stores
*MENU
When outsde of battle, pressing start you will call up a menu. This is what
functions the menu can do.

-Map
There are two maps in the game, one for modern Japan and one for mystical Japan.
When you are in mystical Japan, you may only use the map outside of the
dungeons/boss areas.
When you are in modern Japan, you may use it wherever you want to.
The map allows you to go back to important places you have already visited,
as these places will be recorded on the map when you have been there.

-Items
This allows you to use Healing Items or any other items or inventory you
have purchased from any general store, also lets you view what each Item can do.
Selecting this take you to a second option area which allows you to:
=Use Item
=Throw Away
=Exit

-Use Magic
Allows you to use out of battle spells only, like Hajime's Escape or Yae's Restore.

-Alter Character's Weapons
This option allows you to equip weapons and armor to you characters; remember that
certain characters may only use certain weapons. An arrow pointing up and a number
indicates an improvement in the weapon/armor, vice-versa for a downward pointing arrow.
Selecting this option allows you to:
=Upgrade Weapon
=Upgrade Armor
=Exit

-View Character Statistics
Lets you view your character's status, HP, NP, attributes, power gauge, and how far
they are from leveling up.

-Switch Character Positions
Sort out the battle formation. Whoever is at the lead of the formation is the
character you control out-of-battle.

-Save
Lets you save your game wherever you are.

-Exit Menu
Closes the Menu Screen and puts you back in control of your character.

*BATTLE SCREEN EXPLANATION
You can be attacked outside of towns in Mystical World. You can never be attacked in
the real world.
When the battle starts, the two parties of characters are shown on screen.
Your group appears on the left of the screen, and the enemy group appears on the
right of the screen.
The battle menus will be displayed on the left and the bottom right hand corner
of the screen.

The menu in the bottom right says:

-Take Action
This takes you into a larger menu of attack options.

-Run Away
Your characters will attempt to flee from battle. This doesn't work in boss fights.
Sometimes you will fail to retreat and be forced to fight.

-Change Characters
You can use this to bring stronger characters to the front, and put
badly injured allies in reserve.

If you select the "Take Action", you will get a list on the left.
Here is what the menu says (in order).

-Attack
When you select this you will be asked which foe you want to attack.
Move the cursor over the enemy you want to attack and press the A button.

-Magic
Select one of your current character's three spells, then move
the cursor over who you want it to affect.

-Special Tactics (involves special bar)
The special tactics that you can do is dependant on the position of each
character; selecting this option allows you to do a...
=Power Move (First option for lead character)
This can only be used if one of your three in-battle character's special bar
is at maximum. You can tell if a character's special bar is at max when the
fist icon next their HP and NP is highlighted in black. If there is a skull in
black next to their stats, it means you cannot use that character for a power
move because they are poisoned. This bar fill up a little everytime you attack.
You usually have two Power Moves per character.

=Team Attack (if two of your characters special bars' are at max)
Can only be utilized by character in the top-left. For example, if Sasuke and Yae are
your back characters (on the left side of the screen), and Sasuke is the character
on the top-left, then he will have the option of using special tactics.
Yae (in this example, the bottom-left character) will not be able to use ANY
Special Tactics; she will only be able to Attack, Use Magic, Use Item, or
Don't Attack.
Team Attack allows you to:
>Have the back two characters (on the left) to spring forward for a double attack on
 ONE enemy.
>Have the back two characters to spring forward for a double attack on ALL enemies.
>Heal all characters.

=G-Hammer (if three of your characters special bars' are at max)
Only the lead character can do this! (The second option)
This is the most powerful move your team has. When used, the battle will
pause and go into a short cinema. Goemon Impact will run through a town,
leap into the air and then come plummeting down. The cinema will end and
the damage by Impact crushing the enemy party under his pipe will be dealt.

-Items
This lets you use in-battle items like healing or special magic powers.
If you can't tell which item does what, just try them out after you buy them,
then remember what each one does. If it has an "HP" in the name, it restores power.
If it has an "NP" in the name, it restores magic. You'll need items that take away
poison also.

-Don't Attack
The Character will not attack in this turn of battle.

*STORES
-General Store (usually has a dark brown banner)
Used to buy food and items. You can sell items also (2nd option). This is important,
because there is a limit to how much you can hold in your inventory.

-Inn (usually has a green banner)
Stay there for a night and your whole team will be instantly healed to full power.

-Weapons Store
Go here to but weapon upgrades and armor protection. You can sell items here also.

-Real World Stores (Toy Store, etc.)
Buy items from here to upgrade everyone's weapons. Different items upgrade
different people. Other stores are variations of Mystical World stores.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1.1: Beginning Your Adventure!
First you will start at Hajime's House. Listen to the old guy and then leave the
house at the bottom. Head right past the old men and keep going across. When you
see the bridge, go up and cross the bridge. When on the other side, go right
Keep following the path to the big Mystical Tree. Listen to Hajime's mini-
conversation, then go inside the tree, and just go forward.

1.2: Meet Ebisumaru, Sasuke and Yae!
When you come out the other side of the tree, follow the path. When you arrive
on the next screen, a ladybug enemy will pop up out of the blue and start
menacing you, Ebisumaru will arrive and stick up for you, and you will end up in
a fight. Defeat the three bugs, then listen to Ebisumaru. After the
conversation, Ebisumaru will join you! Now with two characters in your team, you
will have to get used to being attacked frequently as you try to get to Edo
Town. Keep following the path, and soon you should be found by Sasuke and Yae.
After you've talked to them, they will join your team. Defeat any enemies that
attack and keep following the path until you arrive in Edo.

1.3: In Edo Town
Now that you're in town you're safe from being attacked by enemies. Go to the
Inn and you can get your health restored for 20 coins. Head off to the left of
town, and look for the house with Omitsu in it. Listen to what she has to say,
then head to the north of the town. Talk to the man and he will move out of your
way.

1.4: Scaling the Troll's Mountain!
Nasty tigers, baboons and raccoons inhabit these parts and they're quite tough
to kill, fight a few to gain experience points and money, and when your health
is low, go back to town and recharge, then come back. Work your way up the
pathways. You'll know if you are heading the right way if you arrive at an inn
on the mountainside where you can recharge your health. Work your way along the
path fighting monsters to gain experience points and you'll make it to the top.

1.5: The Mystical Ninja
As soon as you arrive on the top, Hajime will then notice someone at the
entrance to the enemy castle, and he'll go over and discover that it's GOEMON!
Hajime will try to talk to Goemon, but Goemon will attack Hajime with a magic
attack, when Hajime gets blown away, Yae will come and tell Goemon off for
attacking Hajime. Goemon will explain himself and say sorry (he attacked Hajime
because he thought Hajime was an enemy). Goemon gets a bit annoyed because the
rest of the gang is here, because he was here to face the enemy alone. He will
join you, now you have all five characters! Plus, if you go back to the left and
pay one coin to the shrine at the top of the screen, you'll get full HP and/or NP!
1.6: Troll Ninja Castle
Now that you're in the castle, keep going upscreen, fighting your way past the
Trolls, and Troll Ninjas. Before you attempt to fight the boss in the last room,
try to be at Lv 5 experience with all the gang, seeing as the first boss can be
annoying if you're not prepared.

1.7: TROLL TANK BOSS
When you enter the final room, the two main villains will spring out and menace
you with threats before sending the tank out to kill you. For this battle, put
Goemon at the head of the team, and Ebisumaru and Hajime behind him, with Sasuke
and Yae in reserve. The Tank only has one attack, which does alot of damage if
it hits, so have Hajime and Ebisumaru cast magic at the tank, and Goemon
attacking with his pipe. If you get desperate, use G-hammer to make Goemon-
Impact attack the tank. Although G-hammer may not completely kill the Tank,
it'll take off alot of its health. Once you've defeated the Tank, watch the
baddies escape. Then go right into the next room. Check all of the objects, and
the gang should then start talking about something. When the conversation is
over, head back down to Edo Town.

Now you should go back to the real world. Go back to the area where you house
is located, but take the first upward path right before you get there. Talk to
the 2 guys there, and something will happen. You can go back to Omitsu's house
in Mystical World now, but first, you should head to the city area south of your
house and buy some items from the toy store.

2.1: West of Edo Town
Find Omitsu's house again, and find the path that heads off to the left
underneath it. If you go along the path, you'll be on the western outskirts of
the town. Talk to everyone and then find the exit to go down onto the lakeside.

2.2: Down on the Lake
Now that you are out of town, head east along the paths, but BE WARNED... much
harder enemies like chickens, rams, and plucked chickens will attack you here,
and these enemies are capable of poisoning your party of heroes. Keep heading
across, and watch out for the padogas, then go inside to find a chest with
goodies in. Also be on the lookout for shrines around the place. Eventually you
should find yourself in Port Town.

2.3: Port Town
Life on the coast isn't what it used to be, so find the market if you want to
and stock up on energy refilling items, to restore NP's and HP's. You can't go
ahead of this town until you've freed the Galleon from the Tengu. Defeat them,
and an old seaman will guard the exit onto the sea path, and won't let you
through. Look around and find the boat.

2.4: Tengu Galleon
This small ship has been overrun by The Tengu (crow goblins) Make your way
downscreen, fight or flee if you are attack by the Tengu, and when you get to
the bottom of the ship, the two villains will appear again and send out a boss.

2.5: CLAWED ROBOT GOEMON CLONE BOSS
An absolute insult to Goemon's image, even Impact is more Goemon-like than this
tentacled monstrosity! Use the same tactics as you did for the Troll Tank, but
this time have Goemon cast his fire magic at the boss too. Make sure you saved
before this fight, as this can be annoying. The Goemon robot can cause ALOT of
damage if you aren't at the correct level of experience for fighting him. Keep
hammering him with magic and heal when needed. Once you've killed this poor
excuse for a clone, the villains will escape again. Leave the boat and head back
to the seaman. He will now let you proceed out of town! Hooray!

3.1: Life on the Rocks
This bit can very extremely annoying, because it's like a maze of rocky paths
across the ocean, with VERY DIFFICULT enemies prowling around the place. You'll
have to keep going around until you find the Island Town. On the upside, there
are quite a few chests to be found, so be ready to find goodies. The enemies
here consist of Otters, Bovine Warriors, Snakes and Singing Seahorses, most of
which are quite hard to kill. Keep following the paths to find the town.

3.2: Island Village
Here you will find many shops, but it's VERY expensive to heal here, so I
suggest you use the magic map to go back to Edo, and then use the map to come
back here. Work your way up town, and when you come to the two exits, head to
the one on the left and then head up.

3.3: The Deadly Cave
This cave is filed with VERY hard monsters and animals, so be VERY careful, and
head upwards and find the path off into another cavern. Then...disaster will
strike....

3.4: The Mystery of the Missing Goemon
Goemon will tell the gang to wait and he will go off, and get trapped on the
other side off a rockfall!!! You will lose Goemon for this point. When the
conversation ends, exit the cave, then Yae will tell you that the rest of the
team will wait here. You will now only have Hajime to play as. Use the magic map
to warp back to the Mystical Tree and go back into the real world.

3.5: Return to the Real World
Go back to where your house is, and you will now find that the woman that was
blocking the entrance to town has vanished, so go down to go into the city. Walk
around speaking to EVERYONE YOU CAN. Also where you come back from the Mystical
Tree, you'll notice there was a pathway blocked off earlier, near an old man,
you now have access here too. Go up this blocked path and you'll notice a
reporter. Talk to him, and then go to the city and find the museum, and talk to
the attendant. If this doesn't work keep talking to everyone. If you've got it
right, an old man will be on the path, blocking the way to the Mystical Tree, so
talk to the old man. He should move out of the way and you can return to the
Mystical World.

3.6: Rescuing Goemon

Warp back to the Island Village, and find Yae, speak to her, and everyone should
re-join the party in a quest to find Goemon. Head back down into the village,
speak the man in green blocking a path and he should move out of the way. Now
head up onto the mountain.

3.7: Dragon Mountain
Okay, this bit is tricky. You have to search the mountain for a way to save
Goemon. There are many tricks, traps and beasts waiting for you here, like
Dragon Men, Vampire Bats, Equine Warriors and Male/Female Hammer Beasts. Fight
them to toughen up, but they're nasty so be careful! Keep searching and get to
the top, you will find a metal plate in the ground...but how do you remove
it...? Also, whilst heading up, watch out for chests strewn everywhere, there
may be something here that can help you remove the plate so you can go downwards
into the mountain.
