This work is copyright 2001 by Ghaleon. It may be freely distributed
as long as no profit is made except by the author (me), should I decide
I want to do so. You may post it on your website if you have one, but
don't change anything, not even a small spelling error! Changes are to
be made only by me.
     Controls
Ok, I'm using an emulated version of this game, but the controls are
still the same. I'll list the actual NES controls
A Button: Punch. Press in conjunction with the arrows (not the Down
arrow though), to perform different punches.
B Button: Kick.
D-Pad: Moves Renegade. Down arrow makes him crouch or stand on an
object to be picked up.
     Special Moves
Down+B: Ankle sweep.
Down+A: Use to pick up objects such as hearts or projectile weapons.
Up+B: Jump kick. You'll get to know it well, trust me.
Press A in conjunction with Left, Right or Up to perform different
punches.
     Enemies
Here, I'll give a quick description of the enemies in this game.
They're all humans, but they're in gangs, each of which has a different
name.
Sleezy Riders: These guys appear in levels 1 and 2 only (thank god for
small favors). They ride motorcycles and can be a pain in the arse if
you're not familiar with them. You must knock them off their bikes
before you can kill them.
Southside Stranglers: These guys appear in levels 3 and 4 only (Thanks
again, god). As their name implies, these guys will strangle you. Try
to get them before they touch you, because it's kinda hard to break
their grip once they grab you, and they do that a lot.
Baselords: Note: Unlike the prior two gang names, this one's a name of
my own invention, as I don't remember their proper name. These guys
will usually come at you with baseball bats, but they're not too hard
to kill. They appear in stage 3.
Macho Chicks (also of my own making): These girls only appear in stage
2, which is rather a good thing. They're annoying. They'll sometimes
throw bottles at you.
Knife-throwing Champions: Also a name of my invention. Anyway, these
guys..well..throw knives. They only appear in level 4, and this is
kinda a good thing. As the name implies, they throw knives.
Skatelords: Finally, another name not of my own making! These guys are
only found in stage 5. They ride on skateboards. Unlike the Sleezy
Riders however, these guys will fall off their wheels at the slightest
touch.
Hammerheads: Another group only found in stage 5, these guys throw
garbage cans at you.
Bouncers' Bodyguards: These guys show up in levels 6 and 7, and they're
actually not that hard to kill.
Bouncers: I will warn you right now, these guys are extremely annoying!
I'll talk more about them in the walkthrough.
     Items
Here, I'll talk about the items you'll find in this game. There are
very few, but they're there.
Heart: These are fairly common, which is a good thing as they refill
some of your life meter. Take care to grab them quickly. As in Legend
of Zelda, hearts will disappear after a few seconds if they're not
claimed.
Empty Bottle: Found in level 2, these are thrown at you by the Macho
Chicks. You can return the favor by picking them up with Down and A
(just like picking up a heart), then throwing them with the A button.
Baseball bat: These are found in level 3. They're dropped by the
Baselords. Pick them up as you would a heart or a bottle and use them
in the same way you would a bottle, with the A button.
Knife: To my knowledge you can't pick these up, but I've never tried
it. It could be that I've just been missing out on a good opportunity.
The gang I have named the Knife-throwing Champions (asassins might be a
better name), carry knives to be used on you.
Garbage can: The Hammerhead gang takes great pleasure in using these
for target practice, you being the target. Return the favor.
     Story
This game's story is simple. Mr. Big has abducted your brother and
it's your job to save him.
     Walkthrough
     Stage 1: Parking Garage 1
Right away you'll notice two things. First, the music's nifty.
Second, you've got one Sleezy Rider waiting to thrash you. The trick to
getting these bastards down is to aim a flying kick at the front of
their motorcycle. Once they're off their bikes the bikes blow up. I
like to use the Ankle Sweep on these guys, it takes less time. About
two to three sweeps should do one in. You'll fight four or five of them
here (the others come after the main guy's down), then an arrow will
point your way.
Head right as the arrow says, and get ready for another Sleezy Rider.
He'll usually drop a heart once he's off his bike, so grab it if you
need it (remember that they disappear after a few seconds), then take
out the gangsters. Grab any hearts they leave if you're low on life,
then head right with the arrow.
In the next area you fight two Sleezy Riders, both on bikes.
Important note on this fight: Don't start fighting the thugs unless
both of them have been knocked off their bikes. If you kill one while
the other's still on his bike another biker will appear. Not only is
this time-consuming (you have a time limit of five minutes on each
level), but you can find yourself dangerously low on life. Considering
what's coming up next, you'll want as much life as you can have. Head
right with the arrow.
     Boss: Big Bob
This is not a name of my invention. He's a really fat guy who throws
tires at you and every now and then aims a kick at you. Avoid the
tires, but especially avoid the kicks, as they hurt, bad! Also, the
game makes an extremely annoying sound when you are hit hard by a boss.
It's supposed to represent a cry of pain, but since it's just a square
wave and a high-pitched one at that, it sounds almost like he's
meowing. Anyway, kick him in the stomach seventeen or so times and he's
down. Time for level 2. Note: After beating stage 1 you get a continue
which you can use on any level except seven.
     Stage 2: Parking Garage 2
First, it's two Sleezy Riders. These are the last you'll ever see
(thank god), so deal with them like the others. Then follow the arrow,
which points left this time.
Next is a group of chicks with empty bottles. Fight them however you
want, although I like to use the bottles. If you throw one just right
you can bounce it off one girl's head to another. Take these chicks out
however you want, then follow the arrow.
One more group of Macho Chicks. Dispose of them like the prior group,
collecting any hearts you can.
     Boss: Big Bob the second
Again, kick him in the stomach and he'll die eventually. Avoid his
tires and his feet, as both hurt. After he dies, time for stage 3.
     Stage 3: Parking Garage 3
Ok, so when're they gonna use some different music? I mean, this
song's been playing since stage 1! It's cool, but it can get annoying
after a while. Anyway, right off the bat you'll see your first
Southside Stranglers. Be quick with them. They can deal heavy damage.
Take them out and get any hearts if they drop any. Follow the arrow.
Now for the first sighting of Baselords. If you can manage it, grab a
baseball bat (the thugs are nice enough to drop them when they die. Use
the bat with the A button. It works better than the punch. Collect any
hearts if you need, then follow the arrow once all the thugs are down.
One last group of Baselords. Deal with them like you did the others.
Stock up on hearts, then head on to the boss.
     Boss: Little Bob
This guy marches around and punches at you, every now and then
kicking at you. The catch is that in this fight you can only punch him,
so hit him a few times then get away. Rinse, lather and repeat until
boss is dead. Time for stage 4.
     Stage 4: Downtown
Finally, different music! First off, a group of Stranglers (last in
the game thank the lord), so deal with them. Try not to lose too much
life.
Next you'll meet Knife-throwing Champions. They're not too tough.
Kill them and grab the hearts.
Another group of knife throwers, so kill them and move on, collecting
any hearts they leave.
     Boss: Siggie
What!!? A chick!!? Don't get any ideas, she's not interested
in..well..you know. She's out to kill you. She moves around and throws
punches, every now and then grabbing you to deliver a nasty body slam!
Hope you're not tired of the little noise the game passes off as a cry
of pain, 'cuz if you're not careful here you'll be hearing it a lot.
Nine kicks should finish this chick off.
     Stage 5: The Park
I just love the music in this level! First off is a group of
Skatelords. You don't have to knock them all off their boards to win.
You can deal with each one as he's down, then follow the arrow.
Another batch of Skatelords, so take them out and if necessary grab
some hearts.
Finally you'll meet your first and only group of Hammerheads. They'll
throw garbage cans at you, but you can return the favor if you want.
Just take them out (sweeps work well here), then move on.
     Boss: Siggie
What!!? I thought I killed her! Well, do so again. Nine kicks will
finish her off again.
     Stage 6: Outside the Pigpen
First off, you'll notice the same music from stage 4 (that siren
makes you wonder why no cops are on the scene). You'll meet a group of
guys, so take them out just like all the others, then proceed.
Second group of average dudes, so handle them like you did the first
one.
Again, just some average dudes, so kill them and move on, and make
sure you've got a decent life meter, you'll need it!
     Boss: Bouncer group 1
I hate these guys! They're not hard to kill, but they have a really
annoying habit of delivering a constant stream of punches that will
always knock you down, and they're really fast! Also, I think they're
either zombies or have lots of endurance. It sometimes seemed to me
that I'd take one down only to have him spring up again. All I can say
about this fight is take them down as quickly as possible. I prefer to
use a Game Genie, especially on this level, as these guys would be
nearly impossible without one. Note: This level is the last chance
you'll have to use your one continue, so if you haven't used it up to
this point (I doubt that's very likely), you may as well use it now, as
it won't work in the last level.
     Stage 7: The Pigpen Bar
The music here's pretty cool. First off you'll fight your final group
of Bouncers (thank you lord), and this time they don't come back to
life! Deal with them as quickly as you can, then move on.
Next you'll have a group of ordinary thugs (these are some more of
the ones I referred to as Bouncers' Bodyguards), so dispose of them and
if necessary and possible grab some hearts.
     Final Boss: Mr. Big
What!!? Mr. Big!!? This git's not much bigger than a three-year-old!
Don't get cocky though, he can be tough. Like the bouncers, he can
basically pin you to the ground with his punches. He also has a gun, so
watch your step. Just kick him or sweep him (anything works, really),
and he'll die. Note: If you die in this fight it's all over. You'll
have to start from the beginning of the game unless of course you're
using a game genie, in which case you can choose where you start.
Note: The following information will spoil the ending of the game (if
you can call it an ending), but then again you don't have to read.
Ending?: After the fight, you'll hear the little victory tune, then
it'll congratulate you on beating Mr. Big and rescuing your brother.
Then it'll give you the "Press Fire to rumble" speech again, like
there's one more level. Do so, and it'll briefly play the level 7 theme
and your brother emerges to another playing of the boss victory theme.
Awww! They're twins! How cute! Then it changes to the level 5 theme as
a bunch of guys comes out. You briefly try to fight them (one kick is
all it gives you), and then you're punched out. You're brother's been
abducted again! On the whole, not really worth fighting through seven
levels of difficult enemies, especially not those damn bouncers! They
could at least have given it a proper ending!
     Closing Comments
In spite of this game's lack of a satisfactory ending..or even of an
ending at all, I like this game. It gives me a reason to beat the crap
out of people who aren't real. Also, the music's cool, even if it's not
very varied. If you have any suggestions, questions or comments, feel
free to E-mail me at either address. Also, I'm still taking suggestions
on most of my other FAQs (my Life Force FAQ is pretty much done), so
let me know if you have any advice on any of the others. And, for those
of you who are wondering if I'll ever update my Crystalis FAQ, the
answer is yes. It just may not be for a while. I want to finish my
Lufia: TLR FAQ first.
