Welcome to Shdwrlm3 & AstroBlue's The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages
FAQ/Walkthrough for the Game Boy Color! Both of us have limited Japanese (in
fact, mine is non-existent), but it shouldn't be too hard to complete the
walkthrough. Complex systems such as the Rings or Passwords will have to wait
until the English version is released, however. When the English version is
released, expect massive updates.

(Interpretation of the Japanese story)

In the land of Hyrule, a lone boy rides his horse. His name is Link. He is
led by an unseen force to the place in which he arrives, Hyrule Castle! Deep
inside the beautiful Triforces awaits. Upon touching the Triforce a bright
light engulfs Link.

"Link... Link... the trials of the Triforce haver begun"

When Link came to his senses he realized he was in a forest that he didn't
recognize. After he walked a little down a path, he encountered Impa. Impa
was searching for Nayru the songstress. Impa asked Link, "Will you help me
search for her?.

With Impa, Link advanced to the inner part of the forest. Here they
encountered the girl who sung beutiful songs. Her beautiful songs lured
animals from around the forest. Link become engrossed in the song of the
girl. This very girl is Nayru. It is the songstress whom Impa has searched
for.

Then suddenly Impa started laughing with a scream. The forest became dark,
and a dreadful shadow appeared from the body of Impa

"Nayru, Sorceress of Time! Veran the Priestess of Darkness will inhabit your
body!"

The Shadow then entered Nayru's body!

"Now I have the power of the Sorceress of Time! I will use her power so the
world will return to the former times of suffering!"

So saying, Veran disappeared. The Body of Nayru was now one with Veran's
shadow.

Since the "The Time Sorceress" was lost, time began to flow strangely! Many
disasters swept the world. As for the aim of Veran, it is for people to
suffer. She began gathering power so she could create "The World of
Darkness".

As for Link, is it possible for him to rescue Nayru from the hands of the
Priestess of Darkness, Veran?

Link's adventure begins....

                                   Prologue
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Forest of Time
``````````````
Head up two screens to find Impa being attacked by Octoroks.  The Octoroks
will run away, and you'll have a short conversation with Impa.  After the
talk, she will join you.
Head up one screen, then left one screen.  After Impa speaks, head to the
stone with the triangle symbol on it and push it to the left or right to clear
the path.  Head up two screens to reach Nayru and her forest pals.  Talk to
each of the creatures surrounding her at least once, then speak to the bear
once again to make him move.  Walk past the bear to see a nice cutscene
featuring Nayru and Link.
After the cutscene ends and the events unfold (NOOO!!  Not the monkeys!), Impa
will give you the Wood Sword and will tell you to visit the Maka Tree in Rennu
Town.
Head down three screens.  Cut down the bushes with your new sword and head
left to the next screen.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
                         Quest for the Soul of Memory
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rennu Town
^^^^^^^^^^
Welcome to Rennu Town.  Visit the shop and check out the goods.  You can spend
some time in the Forest of Time or the Town cutting down bushes to get rupees
for the Wood Shield, but it's not necessary.  It's best to wait until later
for the Shield.  Explore the rest of the town if you wish.  When you're ready,
head up two screens from where the shop is and enter the cave.
Maka Way
********
Once inside the cave (Maka Way), head up three screens.  Go up the stairs to
meet the Maka Tree.
After speaking with the Maka Tree, head right one screen.  Talk to Ralph, then
enter the portal to go to the Past.
Northeast Rennu
```````````````
Once in the Past, head down one screen, then left one screen.

Rennu Village
^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Welcome to Rennu Village. Head down one screen, then left three screens. Now
head down two screens.

Tower of Darkness
*****************
The name of this place took me a while to translate... Anywho, go down one
screen, then right one screen. Speak to the miner there to view a short
cutscene. Afterwards, he will move out of the way to let you pass. Head up,
then enter the doorway on the next screen.

You're now inside the Tower of Darkness. Head right to the next room, then up
to another room, and finally left to the room after that. Head left in this
room, then go down and talk to the distinct-looking orange miner. The Shovel
is now yours! See those rocks to the right of the guy who gave you the
Shovel? You can use the Shovel to break those! Now that you've gotten what
you needed, exit the Tower of Darkness the way you came, or use the Shovel to
get rid of the rocks blocking the path.

Once outside, head down (get the Piece of Heart if you wish), left, then up
two screens to return to Rennu Village.

Rennu Village
^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Back in Rennu Village, use your newfound Shovel to dig up the ground. You
may find hearts, rupees (sometimes rare Blue Rupees), or enemies. Try to dig
up enough rupees to buy a shield when you return to the Present. From where I
left off (one screen above the Tower of Darkness), go up once and right three
times. Now head up one screen to reach the screen with the entrance to Maka
Way. Use the Shovel to break the rocks, then enter the cave.

Maka Way
********
Welcome to your first dungeon (technically mini-dungeon). Since dungeons are
pretty linear, I'll use a different method for their walkthroughs. Each letter
USUALLY denotes a new room, unless otherwise stated.

A) Head up and enter the next room.

B) In the next room, push the block up to open the door. Go through the door.

C) Push the block in the middle of the room to the right, then kill the 3 bats
   in the room. Head right and go to the next room.

D) The door will close when you enter the room. Kill the mini-blobs (who
   can't hurt you) to open the doors. Head up through the upper door.

E) Push the block in the way up. Head right on the narrow path (not a good
   idea to fall into the pit!) until you reach two blocks. Push the left
   block up and the right block right. Go up and step on the switch. Make
   your way back to the fork in the path and head left this time. Follow that
   path to reach the Treasure Chest with a Small Key inside. Exit the room
   the way you came.

F) Exit the room through the left.

G) Head to the far-left of the room and open the door with your Small Key.

H) You'll see two groups of blocks arranged in the following manner:

 # #   # #
# 3 2 # # #
# # 1 # # #
##### #####

   Push 1 to the left, 2 up, and 3 to the left. Now step on the switch to
   open the door.

I) Immediately kill the 2 Stalfos in the the room. To get the Piece of Heart,
   push the left-most block up, then push the block that was next to it to the
   left. Now push the block by itself in any direction to open the doors.
   Head through the right door.

J) In the next room, head up the stairs to meet the Maka Shrub.

You will find the Maka Shrub being attacked by some Pig Soldiers. They will
attack you, but it shouldn't be hard to defeat them. Be careful, though,
since they have arrows. Once you've beaten them, you have successfully saved
the Maka Tree and can return to the Present.

Head down once screen and go through the Time Portal.

Rennu Town & South Rennu
^^^^^^^^^^   ```````````
Head up and talk to the Maka Tree. When it's time to make a decision, choose
the response on the right. Eventually the Maka Tree will give you a Seed Bag
with 20 Achichi Seeds (technically it's best translated as Nuts or Berries,
but Nintendo Power insists on seeds).

Head down one screen and equip the Seed Bag. Use the seeds on that little
tree on the right of the screen to burn it. Head right and open the Treasure
Chest on the next screen for a Giant Blue Rupee worth 30!

Head back left, then go down two screens and buy the Shield from the Shop if
you haven't done so already. Head out of the Shop and go down one screen.

Use the sword to hit the tree and the red seeds will fall out. Use this tree
to replenish your Achichi Seed supply. Head back up one screen, then go right
once.

Forest of Time
``````````````
Head up once, right once, and down once.  Equip the Achichi (Red) Seeds and
burn down the little tree on the right of the screen.  Head right one screen.
Yooru Graveyard
```````````````
Burn the tree on the screen here as well. Head right once, down once, then
left once. You'll see some little boys playing. Make sure to note the spot
of soil on this screen- these are where you'll plant seeds that you acquire.
After the boys are done talking, head down the bridge to the next screen.
Head right two screens and burn the tree on the bottom. Enter the hidden
staircase.

Inside, head right just a little bit, then head up and light the lantern. Now
head to the right and light the other lantern. Pick up the Grave Key that
falls down and exit.

Head left twice, up once, right once, and up twice. Open the gate there, then
head right once. Go down three times and enter Level 1 - The Spirit Grave.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
                            Level 1 - Spirit Grave
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

NOTE: I may change the whole letter format by the next version.

A) Welcome to your first real dungeon. Not very hard, but then again, it's
   only the first dungeon. Head right to the next room.

B) The door will close behind you. Kill the 3 Red Blobs to open the doors.
   Head right and push the block in the middle to the left or right to clear
   the path. Head up to the next room.

C) Push the Cube up 3 times to open the door. If you wish, head left and go
   up those stairs to the room below to get the Dungeon Map. Once you're done
   doing that, return to the Cube room (and redo the puzzle if it resetted).
   Head through the door on the right.

D) Kill the 2 Stalfos then head up to the next room.

E) Kill the Ghost in the room to open the doors and receive a Small Key. Exit
   through the left door.

F) Go to the middle of the room and push the block there to the left. Head up
   through the upper door. If you want the Compass, head up through the door,
   then back down, and push the block down to get to the Treasure Chest. See
   those vines to the left of the Chest? Burn 'em down, then enter the door.

G) Cut down the rock formations with your sword. Kill the Snakes, then step
   on the switch to make a Chest appear. Open the Chest to get a Ring. Head
   out through the right exit.

H) Push the block to the right, then exit the room through the upper exit.

I) Push the block nearest to you up. Follow the path and open the Chest for a
   Small Key. Exit to the left of the room.

J) Push the bottom-most block to the left, then push the block above it up.
   Follow the path and exit through the right exit.

K) Follow the path and exit throught the upper exit.

L) You'll see blocks arranged in the following pattern:

  4 5
  213
##   ##

   Push 1 up, 2 to the left, 3 right, and both 4 & 5 up. Head right and step
   on the switch to make a moving platform appear. Head left and step on the
   switch there to make a Chest appear. Walk on the moving platform and open
   the Chest to get a Small Key, then exit the way you came.

M) Head to the left exit.

N) Head to the upper exit.

O) Go to the left and move onto the moving platform. When it brings you up,
   step off to the right and push the block there to the right. Head to the
   upper right of the room and step on the switch. Open the Chest that
   appears for a Gachiya Seed. Head to the upper left of the room and jump
   down to the moving platform. Exit through the left.

P) Cut down the bushes and use the Small Key on the bottom door. Exit through
   it.

Q) Defeat the Ghost Mini-Boss (for strategies, look in the Bosses/Bestiary
   section), then exit to the left.

R) Kill the two soldiers, then open the door on the bottom.

S) Head down and push the blocks on the upper-left and upper-right down, then
   push the block in the middle to the right. Exit below.

T) Kill the 4 Stalfos, then head to the upper-right exit.

U) Kill the 2 Stalfos, then light the 2 lanterns to make a staircase appear.
   Head down it.

   Climb down the ladder, head right, climb up the ladder there, and head left
   for the Power Bracelet. Exit the room, then head down one screen.

V) Equip the Power Bracelet and lift the pots on the bottom-left of the room.
   Open the Chest for a Ring. Jump down to the next room.

W) Head right to the next room.

X) Lift the pots, kill the Stalfos, and open the Chest for the Boss Key. Exit
   the room through the right exit.

Y) Enter the Portal.

Z) Exit up.

AA) Exit through the upper exit.

AB) Head to the right of the room and open the door with the Boss Key. Go
   through the door. Also, be careful of the Hand that appears in this room.
   If it grabs you, you'll be returned to the dungeon entrance.

AC) Get ready to face the Pumpkinhead boss. See the Bosses section for
   strategies. When you defeat him, pick up the Heart Container and exit
   above.

AD) Go up and pick up the Soul of Memory.

Yooru Graveyard and Forest of Time and Rennu Town
```````````````     ``````````````     ^^^^^^^^^^
You should be familiar with this terrain by now, so I won't have step-by-step
instructions.  Make your way out of Yooru Graveyard (meeting Maple on the
way, planting the Gachiya Seed, or getting the Piece of Heart), go through
the Forest of Time, and get back to Rennu Town.
Once in Rennu Town, head left two times from where the Shop is, then up once.
Now head left, down, then left again.
Rune Plateau
````````````
Pick up the rock with your Power Bracelet, then head left to the next screen.
Head down to enter the Fairy Forest.

Fairy Forest
````````````
Head right, down, left, down, left, and up to meet the Fairies.  They will
hide, and you must go find them.  Pay attention to these directions carefully!
Head right, then down, and cut the bushes to find the first Fairy.  Now go up,
then left to return to "home base," where all the Fairies will gather once you
find them.  Head left twice.  Cut down the bushes to find the second Fairy.
Go right to return home.  Once there, head up, down, then up again.  Lift the
rock to find the 3rd and final Fairy.
The Fairies will talk to you, and will take away the spell from the forest so
that it won't be a maze.  Head right and pick up the rock on the next screen.
Once you move a little to the right, the building there will collapse.
Immediately return to the Maka Tree.
Forest of Time
``````````````
Once at the Maka Tree, exit to the right. On the next screen, hop down from
the cliff, then exit at the bottom-right. Exit to the right on the next
screen, then head up. Here you will find Nayru's house, where Impa is
staying.  Enter the house.

Inside, push the statue in front of Impa to the left, then enter the door the
statue was blocking. Go down the stairs, and collect the Harp of Time in the
next room.

After the talk with Nayru, exit the house and use the Harp of Time, Song of
Echo. Enter the Time Portal that appears...

More coming soon...

V 0.1-February 26, 2001- First version. Basic stuff done and an extremely
      small fraction of the walkthrough done!

V 0.2-March 2, 2001- Walkthrough done up to about halfway through the Quest
      for the Forest of Memory. Various sections added.

Temporary Notes- I would've liked to have more done for this update, but I'm
running short on time and thought everyone would've liked at least some info.
By the next version, I hope to have the walkthrough done up to Level 4. We'll
see...
