  The Japanese characters shown in the beginning of the guide, represented
by text art, is the title of this game. The Japanese characters used in the
title are of the Katakana character set. The first four (4) characters mean
"custom" and the next two (2) characters mean "robo", an abbreviation for
"robot". "Robot" in Japanese is pronounced, "ro-bo-tsu-to". All of the
characters used are part of the Japanese Katakana character set as well.

WANT TO PURCHASE A COPY OF THIS GAME OR RELATED MERCHANDISE?      [ PURCHASE ]

   The current supply of this game, as of 2003, is scarce as this product is
 long out of production. It is difficult to find such a N64 game in Japanese
 or Japanese-import stores as the GameCube, PlayStation 2, and X-Box are the
 main foci in the current console gaming markets. Consider yourself lucky if
 you already own a copy or can find a new/used copy. I have seen used copies
 selling for around 1200K or currently ~$10, in Japanese sites. And from my
 past experiences, this game sells FAST when put up for sale.
   However, do not worry if you can not get a copy of this game. Custom Robo
 is announced to be released as an exclusive for the GameCube in the future.
 The upcoming game will be similar to this game in many aspects based on the
 previews. The game will also be the first series to enter the international
 markets as well.
   Other series of this title include Custom Robo for N64 and Custom Robo GX
 for GBA. Both games contain Japanese text. In my opinion, Custom Robo (N64)
 and Custom Robo GX (GBA) are both degraded versions of Custom Robo V2. They
 are, however, available for sale in a some game stores. In addition, Custom
 Robo merchandise such as Japanese comics, guides, soundtracks, and toys are
 sold in some stores as well. The decision is yours in purchasing any of the
 products listed. I HOLD ABSOLUTELY NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR ACTIONS.

   By the way, don't bother checking for the availability of this game at
 GameFAQs. They won't have it. The "Check Price" feature is for mainly for
 U.S. titles.

   The Custom Robo series have a large potential in becoming a popular game
 outside of Japan. It's already popular in Japan with its sales records. It
 would be a shame if we missed out all the excitement these games offer us.
 In an effort to provide gamers a smooth transition into this series, it is
 important to first introduce them to the basic concepts of the game.
   This guide is specifically made for Custom Robo V2. The storyline in the
 game is surprisingly simple despite the Japanese text. The game provides a
 colorful environment and user-friendly controls. The storyline is a sequel
 to its predecessor Custom Robo (N64). In this sequel, you play the role of
 a protagonist who sets a goal to win the World Championship Cup. Very soon
 will he also encounter foes acting as obstacles to his goal. His fate? You
 will decide as you command his customized robo(s) in battling his enemies.
   The battling system in this game is not complicated except you will find
 yourself adjusting your strategies at times. Simply put, two robos are set
 to battle on a field/arena. They will also be customized by being equipped
 with different parts depending on your inventory. Different parts may have
 different attributes. Do not be surprised if you find your robo tolerating
 against many projectiles on the three-dimensional battlefield!
   There are five different parts in making a customized robo. They are the
 robo, gun, bomb, pod, and legs. You are only allowed one of each part. You
 can not, for example, equip two guns or bombs. On the other hand, you will
 still have many possibile combinations in creating your customized robo.
   The fight will continue on until one loses all its health or the time is
 up. After the battle, enjoy as you watch your robo perform a stance. Maybe
 your multiplayer opponent will demand a rematch. In any case, we hope this
 game series gain more popularity in the future.

   NOISE(Marigul) was set up in the 1990s as an second party developer for
 Nintendo. Since then they had completed a game known as Custom Robo for
 the N64 in 1999. The game surprisingly received good sales. Custom Robo V2
 was quickly released the following year due to gamers' demands. The game
 became their top seller and quickly became popular. NOISE(Marigul) began
 to program for the GBA after the downfall of the N64. As a result, Custom
 Robo GX was released on 2002. The game became popular as well. Now NOISE
 (Marigul) is developing for the GC. Their latest project on Custom Robo is
 the first series developed for international markets. Will this game gain
 enough popularity like the other series did? Only time can tell...

 This section of the guide is for those interested in the next release of
 Custom Robo for the Nintendo GameCube:

 The following are known parts to the game:
 ROBOs : Ray 01, Agilia, Crystalium
 GUNs  : Six Barrel, Stardust, Blue Splash, Dragon
 BOMBs : Deep Freeze, Tomahawk B
 PODs  : Seeker F, Sky Freeze, Orbiter
 LEGs  : Vault, Evader, Inceptor
 Note  : These are the currently known names of some parts.
 The names may change in the public release.

  Additional features in the next release include the following:
 -new storyline, characters, and weapons,
 -enhanced multiplayer games (up to 4 players can battle at once),
  first release to have LAN and internet support,
 -enhanced graphics (more polygons are used in 3D models),
 -and maybe some FMVs?

  Some sources say this game will contain over 200 parts to choose from.
 Custom Robo V2 already has over 200 parts. Maybe many will be remodelled
 versions of the weapons in Custom Robo V2. I wonder which one has more?
 The same concept with the stages.

  What I would like to see is the ability to modify the weapons and parts
 in terms of color and projectile (speed, damage, size, etc) modifiers.

  There are sources that claim the upcoming name to be "Custom Robo 2". I am
 not sure about this.

 Here is my description for the above trailer:
 (You may need to run the movie at slow motion or pause occasionally)

   You begin seeing ESRB's Rating Pending. My guess is that they'll make
 it Teen for the violence in the game. What's wrong about beating the
 wreckage out of a robot? Anyway, you will be shown a little movie with
 four cubes entering some platform. The platform is considered a stage or
 a battlefield in the game. Later, you'll find out there is one robot
 being chased by three robots. Typical good and bad guy scenario. The
 purple cube contains RAY 01, a ROBO. The orange, red, and green cubes
 contain the enemies. The red is a strike vanisher model, the green is
 some remodel of gorion from Custom Robo V2. The orange robo is probably
 a new robo. Some Japanese sources claim it to resemble a cat? Anyway, the
 cubes will open and you will then see the robo from the orange cube leap
 into mid-air after running. Notice it did a double jump by showing the
 boosters? This feature is for all robos. Some do extra jumps while others
 dash. They are limited, however. Next, you will see the robo perform an
 attack. The GUN it is using is probably STARDUST. The STARDUST GUN shoots
 many projectiles randomly at its target. In this case, it is shooting at
 RAY 01. Then you will see RAY dodging the projectiles and leap into mid-air
 as well. Soon it will fire a stream of bullets at the enemy robo. The GUN
 is probably the GATLING GUN or some similar name. I think the movie
 exaggerated a bit on the amount of bullets. Notice again of the enemy ROBO
 performing many jumps in air to avoid the bullets. Afterwards, RAY fires
 his BOMB to where it predicts the enemy ROBO's destination. This is helpful
 to players for trapping others in the game. Guess what? The BOMB hits the
 enemy ROBO. Next you will see RAY attack another ROBO. This time the enemy
 ROBO is dashing rather than using jumping afterburners. It also disappears
 during the dash. This is a feature of the strike vanisher models including
 the ones in Custom Robo V2. RAY uses the same strategy and hits the ROBO
 with the BOMB or so it seems. This ends the FMV.
   You will now see recordings of sample battles in Custom Robo. The first
 one starts in a stage similar to Athletic Park in Custom Robo V2. There
 is too much going on for me to explain. Instead, focus on the ROBO at the
 lower left corner of the screen. Soon you will see another ROBO perform
 a melee attack at this ROBO. This is called a tackle or some other similar
 name. All ROBOs have different or similar types of tackles. The next
 battle is performed on a stage similar to Deadline in Custom Robo V2.
 Notice the red patch of terrain on the lower right screen of the movie?
 This resembles lava in the Custom Robo V2 version of this stage. Probably
 something similar in this game. Now focus on the ROBO on the lower left of
 the screen. Very soon it will be damaged by two shots of STARDUST and a
 BOMB. Once again, the STARDUST is shown as a spread shot to increase the
 chances of hitting a target ROBO. After taking damage, the ROBO fires the
 DRAGON GUN at the fourth player. However, it is difficult to see the
 animation. Again, third player is beaten down with STARDUST. A BOMB is also
 shot at third player. It is "missile" shaped and called the cresent wrench
 bomb in Custom Robo V2. I'm sure NOISE(Marigul) will think of a better name
 in the next release. After fallen down, you will see third player is
 "transparent" when it recovers. This feature allows the player to recover
 while shot down. It is called REBIRTH in Custom Robo V2. In this case, it
 seems like player three is escaping the red patch of terrain. The next scene
 will the use of the STARDUST, BLUE SPLASH, and some other weapons. Finally,
 you are shown the last sample battle in this trailer. The stage is similar
 to Capsule Deck in Custom Robo V2. Here you are shown two ROBOs. The two
 GUNs used here are TRIPLE and FALLING RAY gun. You are also shown the
 GEMINI bomb used by the second player. And as the battle shows, never jump
 in front of projectiles unless you know what you are doing. The first
 player is equipped with the crescent wrench bomb. More dashing is shown in
 this battle. The trailer ends with the Custom Robo logo.

   My goal in making this guide is to provide Custom Robo fans as much info
 as I can about this game. And of course, there are also official guides
 available in Japanese if you like. My future plans for this guide include
 a full translation or interpretation of the script in English and romaji,
 provide the damage calculation formulas, reveal all the secrets this game
 has to offer, and more. However, I do not know if I will have time for the
 other series. Also, please be aware that the game text presented in this
 guide are only translations or interpretations of the original Japanese
 text. I may include the Japanese text in a later update of this guide for
 reference. This is tedious work for me and may require extended lengths
 of time to complete this work. As for the present work, I advise all
 readers to take precautions for spoilers in the game since they are not

Preparation: Battle Details:                                        [ BATTLE ]

   There are two ways a battle starts in this game. The most common is by
 the use of cubes. The ones that do not use the cube are either special
 battles in the journey mode or by using certain stages. If the battle
 begins with the use of cubes, you will see two dice in separate launchers.
 The first player is on the red launcher and the second player is on the
 blue launcher. Both players are able to redirect the launchers. A counter
 will shown. After the counter ends, the launchers will shoot the dice. The
 robos unfold after the dice are deployed. The action begins here.
   The robos "unfold" after the dice deploys. The ideal goal here is to land
 the dice with the legs facing down. There are six faces - the head, front
 of body, back of body (or pod), left arm (or bomb), right arm (or gun), and
 the legs.
   Afterwards, the battle is a loop of both players or teams fighting each
 other until the time is up or a player/team goes out of health. The fight
 includes the use of all possible parts of the ROBOs and STAGEs. Most
 important, battles are mainly shaped by STAGEs. The ground and obstacles
 of the STAGEs may impact most the battle. The rest includes the strategies
 of the players in controlling their ROBOs in battle. The winner of the
 battle is determined by either damage or time limits.

   This section is still under development. Some information have been
 released in this update.

 (warning: this summary of the storyline may contain spoilers)

   The Custom Robo V2 story is a sequel to Custom Robo. Both stories contain
 the theme of winning a championship title. In the previous title, the winner
 was able to acheive such goal using the Ray ROBO. This time, the title is
 destined to be for a new character in the scene with the Ray MkII ROBO. This
 will eventually prove the worthiness of the new ROBO (This is part of the
 original storyline; The player is able to choose other parts).
   At first, the new character is desperate in having a robo for he does not
 have one. But once he obtains the Ray MkII, he is able to show remarkable
 battling skills. This has captured the attention of the robo doctor, who is
 then willing to accept and further train the boy using special battle
 equipment. This has been a success for both characters.
   However, the new character also has other encounters in the story. While
 following his new friends, he meets the twin brothers of the Takuma Academy.
 It is then learned that the twin brothers also had another sibling who died
 at the academy. As the story continues, the protagonist will encounter more
 of the Takuma Academy events. Eventually, the search for an unsolved mystery
 of the Takuma Academy begins. With the help of a detective(?), the party
 begins to slowly uncover the secrets of the Takuma Academy. At last, it is
 revealed that an secret underground organization has influenced part of the
 Academy. The planning stage to go against this dark organization is set.
   With the support of certain members of the Academy, a group is set to
 fight the Goliath. However, certain academy members are already influenced
 by the offerings of the Goliath. Those who seek for this deadly power may
 be set for a disturbing upset... and is acquiring this power worth it?

   You select the uppermost option/choice in the title menu for single
 player mode. Next, you will be shown three (3) slots. Select any slot you
 wish to record your game over. An empty slot will begin a new game and used
 slots will continue from their most recent game save. You will be given two
 (2) options after selection. The top option is journey mode and the bottom
 option is intensive battle mode. Select either option using your direction
 keys and press the (A) button to confirm. You may also press the (B) during
 any time of this sequence to return to previous menus when in doubt. The
 name input prompt that appears when you start a new game is discussed below.

   It is recommended that you read this entire passage before performing any
 actions at the start up. You are first shown the name input prompt with the
 Japanese Katakana character set. There is a total of three character sets to
 select characters from. They are the Katakana, Hiragana, and the English
 set. Kanji and English accent character inputs are currently available only
 through the use of a game enhancer or similar cracking device. I do not know
 the character encoding system this game utilizes as for now. Here are the
 controls for the name input prompt:
  Directional Buttons: select characters from current set
  [L] or [Z]: wrap to the left character set
  [R]: wrap to the right character set
  (A): confirm character selection
  (B): remove previous character selection
  (S): confirm name input
 To select the Alphabet character set, simply press the [L] or [Z] button
 once. You will be shown a screen similar to the example shown below with
 the right character set label highlighted:

   The journey mode begins with a demonstration battle. Here you see the two
 ROBOs RAYMKII and ANNIE battle each other on the GOLIATH GREAT STAGE. RAYII
 is equiped with the GATLING GUN and ANNIE the STARDUST GUN.
 (spoiler: This demonstration battle is a foreshadow to later battles).

Chapter 1:

   You will see a boy fall out of his bed. A younger girl will approach him
 and comment on his behavior. The boy then dresses up and heads to the
 living room downstairs. There he meets his mother who presents him his
 first ROBO - the RAYMKII. The RAYMKII or Ray Mark II is at this time a new
 introduced ROBO to prove its rarity and also its balanced skills compared
 to the past ROBOs of the same model.

 |CHARACTER INFORMATION:
 | The blue hair boy:
 |    He is the protagonist/hero of the story and you play his role in the
 |  story. He dreams of winning the World Championship Cup from the Supreme
 |  Custom Robo Tournament. But before that, he needs to first have a ROBO.
 |  He is assigned the name given at the name input prompt. I do not know
 |  his full original name as of yet.
 | The pink hair girl:
 |    The younger sister of the protagonist. She is a helpful character who
 |  assists him in some parts of the story and gets mad or jealous at him
 |  during some other parts of the story. Her name is Futaba, pronounced,
 |  "fu-ta-ba". (spoiler: The protagonist will also battle her later in the
 |  game). 
 | The purple hair woman:
 |    The kind hearted mother of the protagonist. She supports her son and
 |  treats her guests with respect.

   The sister takes the protagonist to a battle arena, a place where
 commanders meet and battle with their ROBOs. A commander is a person who
 commands a ROBO in battle. Commanders can also win new PARTs to their
 PARTs collection when they win battles. So far the protagonist only has one
 of each PART - the RAYMKII BODY, DUAL GUN, DUAL BOMB, DUAL POD, and DUAL
 LEGS (You will notice this shortly afterwards). While inside the arena, the
 party is noticed by two new characters who enter the arena. They are
 interested in the group and offers assistance to the protagonist.

 |CHARACTER INFORMATION:
 | The brown hair boy:
 |    He becomes the advisor and friend of the protagonist early in the
 |  story. He is also responsible for involving the protagonist with the
 |  interference of the underground organizations later in the story.

 |    Friend of Taihei who also assists the protagonist throughout the

   Taihei and Genta offer to give the protagonist practice battles. Taihei
 also instructs the protagonist with the basic controls. The protagonist
 begins his first battle with Taihei:

            a "tutorial" for the player to tone their skills against
     various enemy srategies - evade, normal, agressive, and air strategies)

 |   This is the protagonist's first battle in his journey, who you control.
 |  Heptane will not attack you in this battle. The only way to damage your
 |  ROBO is to contact explosions from your own BOMBs and PODs. Heptane will
 |  only maneuver around the STAGE. It is crucial for the player to develop
 |  their accuracy in this battle. Trapping Heptane is also not a bad idea.

 ROBOs can "tackle" in battle. They are only able to do this on ground.
 To tackle, simply press any of the (C) buttons (except for the top one).
 Different ROBOs have different types of tackles. They are also invulnerable
 while they perform their tackle. The duration of invulnerability varies for
 each ROBO. The damage for tackles also vary between ROBOs as well.

 -FASTER READINESS IN BATTLE:
  A common "cheat" usually found labeled as "quick start" in many gaming
  cheat sites. I don't know if this is a secret but I doubt it. The
  descriptions you may find will be similar to "rapidly press (A) and (B)
  at a start of a battle to faster prepare your robo." This is correct
  in some sense. However, this does not have any effect while the cube is
  deploying, disappearing, or any other term you want to associate with
  that. Instead, just begin tapping the (A) button after the cube is no
  longer visible. Continue doing this until your robo is standing up.
  A faster readiness in battle also depends on the die itself. Sometimes
  you start earlier and sometimes you don't. There are also certain robo
  parts that are able to prepare itself faster during the start of a
  battle.

 -HANDICAP BATTLE:
  There is supposedly a way to have handicap battles in the game. I do
  not currently know what it is but it is definitely not a rumor for
  sure. I'll try to include more information about it during the next
  release. This is for the single player mode.
  This is what I think:
  The game begins with a single difficulty: normal. The game will maintain
  at this difficulty until the player begins to lose or win at a certain
  rate. If the player is on a losing streak, the game will lower the
  difficulty to match their skills level. If the player is on a winning
  streak, the game may raise the difficulty level to match the player.
  I need someone to correct or confirm this.

 -INVULNERABLE MODE IN BATTLE:
  I found this "cheat" in a few gaming cheat sites and in languages
  besides English. I do not know if it is true or not. Feel free to
  contact me if you know more about this "cheat" or just to confirm
  this "cheat". I forgot what the button combinations are. I do
  remember that the combination involves the use of the (C) buttons.

 -OBTAINING THREE (3) SECRET OR BONUS STAGES:
  It is recommended to have the volume enabled to a comfortable level.
  Next, go to the title screen (where you see "PRESS START"). Now you
  should rapidly hit the [L] button and hit random direction buttons.
  I personally use my left thumb on the [L] and my right on the analog.
  Continue doing this until you hear a chime. Try again if the title
  screen enters the game demonstration mode. The stages are Rocky
  Mountain, Boy's Restroom, and Practice Stage. It may be also possible
  to enable the disabled menus in the title menu.

 -RANDOM SELECTION:
  This is not a secret or cheat in the game despite what the many sites claim
  that it is. It is given as an option in multiplayer and practice battles. I
  am only including this as a reference to clarify certain issues. To perform
  this action, simply hold on to (Z) and hit (A) during a selection screen in
  a multiplayer or practice battle. It will randomly select available stages
  and robo parts for you. I have never heard of someone getting new stages or
  parts by doing this. It may be helpful if you can't decide the selection(s)
  for yourself or are in an argument with a friend.
