| 0.1: INTRODUCTION |
+------------------------------------+
The Xenosaga Madness Project is dedicated to the assembly of a complete guide to
the Japanese release of the Playstation 2 game _Xenosaga: Episode I_, for
English speakers. The project was conceived by jetfuel as a way for him to play
the game early, to practice some Japanese before leaving to study in Tokyo, to
avoid potentially bad English localization, and most of all to help Xeno fans
around the world enjoy this fine game in a language more familiar to them than
Japanese. In the weeks preceding the game's Japanese release, several other fans
came out of the Xeno web woodwork to lend their talents; their names and
contributions can be found in the credits section to follow.

In order to play, you'll need the game, of course, a Japanese PS2, and this
guide. The game and PS2 can be bought at any number of game import shops on the
net, or at a real shop in Japan, if you're lucky enough to actually live there.
Go ahead and print this guide out, or have it up on your screen if your computer
is close enough to your PS2.

For ideal enjoyment of the game, please put away all expectations and
preconceptions. When faced with an unorthodox decision by the game staff, try to
keep an open mind. Most of all, remember that this game has been put together by
a large team of very hard-working people who have done their absolute best to
bring you a fun game.

Credit should be given to CJayC, proprietor of GameFAQs, for providing the venue
through which guides like this one can be distributed to the people who need
them.

| 0.3: VERSION HISTORY |
+------------------------------------+
Changes, updates, future plans. With each update I also go over the whole
document to rearrange information and fix little spelling/grammar/formatting
errors or awkward translations.

0.5.5 (4.10.02): This is kind of crappy; we still can't move into our apartment
in Shinjuku and I'm afraid that hooking up video games here in the house I'm
staying would be a little un-guest-like of me. So this time it's just more
updates from other staff members: the status effects section and Ashley's
Xenocard explanation have arrived. As soon as I can hook up my PS2 comfortably,
I'd like to *finish the dang game* and then go through it again, this time
writing down at least a summary of each scene.

0.5.2 (4.3.02): Sorry for the lapse in updates; I'm still getting oriented here
in Tokyo. I haven't even got my PS2 set up yet. Added Jack's AGWS accessories
list, and a lot more U.M.N. translations from int.

0.5 (3.25.02): Added tips for fighting Albedo. More Song of Nephilim scene
translation. Added FAQ section.

0.4.7 (3.23.02): Added Henry's scenes to the Huge Gnosis section. Started
translating the Song of Nephilim scene in the Kookai Foundation Revisited
section. Added Ashley's Skill section.

0.4.5 (3.20.02): Ziggy bio. Added Jack's full AGWS unit and equipment lists.
Translated some more of the Turning point scene in the Kookai foundation section,
but those babbling council members are going to cause me kanji nightmares.

0.4.1 (3.18.02): Henry finished The Long One.

0.4 (3.16.02): Henry Jerng is back on board! He'll be lending his spectacular
transation talents to our little project, here, so look for really dang good
scene translations. Added Henry's translation of the long scene between the
Woglinde and Elsa. Seriously fixed up the wonky Turning Point scene in the
Kookai Foundation section, thanks to Ms. Hiroko Matsuo. *^_^* Added some brief
tips on the Elsa boss. If there are any bosses or sections of the game boggling
you, let us know (madness@metalbat.com) and we'll write it up.

0.3.6 (3.15.02): Started translating the Turning Point scene on the Durandal.
It's boggling me. More minigame info. Fixed bad bytes in some Japanese text
thanks to GameFAQs Contributor Issues.

0.3.5 (3.13.02): Decided to cover sections in a non-linear fashion. This way,
more important scenes and areas get covered first, so that we're not wasting our
time on technobabble scenes while players wait try to figure out what the heck's
going on with the storyline. If there's a part of the game that you'd like to
see covered next, please let us know (madness@metalbat.com). Started Minigame
section.

0.3.3 (3.12.02): Added deathblow attack attributes and accessory list by Ashley.
Finished post-tutorial scene translation.

0.3.1 (3.12.02): Almost done with the post-tutorial cut scene. Being able to
translate on the train is very nice; sasuga PowerBook. Addressed the, uh,
"secret feature" in the character view screen. Also, thanks to John Townsend for
some very thorough intro dialogue corrections.

0.3 (3.10.02): My DV bridge showed up! Started translating scenes today; the
introduction is finished! Yeah! Scene translation should be pretty smooth from
here on out. Also started the U.M.N. database section as submitted by duckroll
and int; These guys put the "Madness" in "Xenosaga Madness Project". Ashley's
corrections to the Battle section.

0.2.6 (3.9.02): Made some corrections; thanks to Gabe Silverstone on the KOS-MOS
bio. duckroll's corrections to the Ether/Deathblow lists.

0.2.5 (3.8.02): Bebpo's complete usable item list. Removed plugin misinformation.
Made menu hierarchies and such more readable (I hope).

0.2 (3.7.02): Complete battle explanation. Exploration explanation. Say that
three times fast.

0.1.5 (3.7.02): Found that stupid "Goddess's Shield" kanji. Started Deathblow
explanation. Ashley more or less finished attacks and Ethers; jet working on
iffy katakana titles. Future plans: start serious story/walkthrough once DV
bridge arrives. Maybe start a glossary.

0.1.1 (3.6.02): Fixed small errors. AGWS and Ether menu explanation. Moved
tutorial to Walkthrough section.

0.1 (3.5.02): Jr. and chaos bios. Extensive menu details. Updated attacks.
Ethers. Complete tutorial translation. Figured out the name of the guy who looks
like Henry Rollins.

0.0.6 (3.4.02): More items listed. Corrected M.O.M.O. bio.

0.0.5 (3.4.02): Part of intro translation. Started item list. Started
attacks/deathblow lists. Guide conventions. Menu translation.

0.0.2 (2.27.02): Shion and M.O.M.O. bios. Game notes.

0.0.1 (2.25.02): Guide skeleton assembled. Story overview. KOS-MOS bio. Need to
add duckroll's battle and ether info, and Ashley's Shion bio.

+------------------------------------+
Real-world background on the game itself and other miscellaneous info.

_Xenosaga Episode I_
_Der Wille zur Macht / ͂ւ̈ӎu / The Will to Power_
The game was released in Japan on February 28, 2002, in both regular and
Limited(LE) editions. The LE contains an art book, a Vector keychain, a binder,
and a KOS-MOS figurine; both editions contain the game on a dual-layer DVD for
the Sony Playstation 2. Monolith Soft, backed by Namco, has developed the game
with a staff including of a number of members from the original Xenogears team.

Ashley Curtis, one of the more active Xenosaga Madness staff members, has a
mini-walkthrough up on GameFAQs. If there's something that's not yet addressed
here, you might want to go check it out. Also, a good amount of the dialogue
translations that appear in this guide were donated by Henry Jerng, from his own
guide, also available on GameFAQs. Check that out, too. The non-competitive
atmosphere around here is so nice. *^_^*

+------------------------------------+
| 0.5: GUIDE CONVENTIONS |
+------------------------------------+
Key info used throughout the guide.

This guide makes use of Japanese-formatted text so that you can compare English
translations with their Japanese counterparts on the game screen. Viewing of
these characters requires a Japanese OS, Japanese support installed in your
regular OS, or a special third party application that allows you to read
Japanese. MacOS 9 and X come with full Japanese support ready to install from
the CD. On recent Windows releases it should be fairly easy to install Japanese
support as well. Look around your OS's support sites for more info on this. If
you haven't got Japanese support, those bits will simply look like garbled crap
and you can ignore them.

Unless otherwise noted, the following symbols will be used for controller
commands:
S = Square
T = Triangle
O = Circle
X = X

+------------------------------------+
| 0.6: FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS |
+------------------------------------+
These questions are asked pretty frequently. So don't ask 'em anymore.

__When is this game coming out in North America/Europe?__
There is currently no announced release date. Go back and read that again. It's
true. Our best guess so far is sometime in the autumn of 2002.

__Is there some way to play this game in English?__
Nope. All dialogue and subtitles (except for the opening scene) are in Japanese.
Makes sense for a Japanese game, I guess. Good thing we're translating every
scene for you.

__Is this game going to have both Japanese and English dialogue tracks in the
English version? If not, which one will it have?__
It will probably have one or the other, due to space considerations. Of course,
it's much more likely that the dialogue will be in English; while RPG fans like
you and I really dig the idea of preserving the original Japanese dialogue,
Namco *needs* to sell as many copies of XS as possible, and releasing an already
niche game with foreign language dialogue would not exactly summon up FFVII-
scale sales figures.

__Does this game follow the Xenogears/Perfect Works storyline?__
No. Creator/director Tetsuya Takahashi said so, and I doubt you could get a much
better source than that. That said, there are a few things that do match up
(Zohar, for example). This just shows that XG and XS were both based on the same
idea.

__Monolith can't use any Xenogears characters or game elements because it's
owned by Square, right?__
Monolith and Square are on good terms. A substantial amount of Xenogears-related
material, including copyrighted material like character designs and specific
names, has appeared in the Saga already. This suggests that Monolith has
permission to use at least some of the material from XG.

__Should I buy this game?__
Personally, yes. The more people that buy it, the more likely it is that I'll
get to play episode II. ^_^ Really, though, read some reviews at GameFAQs,
that's what they're for. For an idea of how much I personally like this game,
look at the size of this guide. ^_^

Background, plot, character bios, and other subjective fluff.

+------------------------------------+
| 1.0: STORY OVERVIEW |
+------------------------------------+
As translated from Monolith's site by int and Ashley:

In the year 20XX AD. Through one man's effort, ruins were discovered at Turkana
Lake, Africa. A very, very ancient relic was found amongst the ruins. The relic
was later called "Phenomenon Transition System", Zohar. In the distant future
after the discovery of Zohar, mankind has no choice but to abandon the Earth due
to a 'certain reason'. In space, 4,000 years after the discovery of Zohar, where
the memories of Earth have long been forgotten this sets the stage for the story
of Xenosaga. In this era, the sanctity of humanity is threatened by a mysterious
existence known as the "Gnosis". The groups of Gnosis exhibit clear hostility as
they attack humanity. Humanity quickly develops the AGWS and the Android "KOS-
MOS" system to combat it (the Gnosis). One woman, the human race and the Gnosis
find themselves in conflict centered around presence of Zohar.

+------------------------------------+
| 1.1: CHARACTER PROFILES |
+------------------------------------+
As translated from Monolith's site by Ashley and jetfuel:

__Shion Uzuki__
Sex: Female
Height: 163cm
Weight: 48kg
Age: 22
Bio: Shion is the head engineer of the "KOS-MOS" project inside Vector, the
number one development agency. In the beginning of the story, Shion is
dispatched to outer space by Vector, to be in charge of the investigation of a
planet which has disappeared, and to test the KOS-MOS project. The project is
being conducted jointly by the government and the private sector. From early on,
since her birth, there has been a long history of many wars around and in her
hometown. Both of her parents are dead, also 2 years ago she lost her first love
in an accident. It should have been a very tough experience for her. However she
hasn't been troubled by it very much and she has never revealed her hurt
feelings to anyone else. She does everything with a positive attitude. However
her attitude tends to be taken just as simple optimism. However her positive
attitude is really the strongest resistance to all the experiences she's had in
the past. It's also the proof that she is not restrained by the ghosts of her
past, and the reason for her sheer volition to live today and then tomorrow.
Shion is a woman with "strong and mighty" personality, who tends to push her
coworkers to move ahead aggressively. Although this quality is also kind of an
attraction, she denies it about herself. However, as being the KOS-MOS project's
head engineer, she is thought of as just a Muse. The fact is that she is a
pretty woman. Because of this many of her male coworkers take a fancy to her.

__KOS-MOS__
Sex: Female
Height: 167 cm
Weight: 92kg
Age: Appearance of approximately 18 years.
Bio: Key girl throughout the Xenosaga series. A female-type battle android
developed by the galactic conglomerate "Vector". Created without the artificial-
human ReAlien technique, she is a unique being composed entirely of mechanical
parts. Created as a battle system for use against the Gnosis by the pilgrimage
fleet, "KOS-MOS" is a general project title rather than a name. She is devoted
to the three priorities of logic, the establishment, and duty, and to guarding
her creator Shion unconditionally. In order to facilitate communication with
others, she implements a "personality imitation OS".
Her name means "order".

__chaos__
Sex: Male
Height: 169 cm
Weight: 53kg
Age: Appearance of approximately 18 years.
Bio: A key person throughout the Xenosaga Series. Chaos is slender, and always
wears a gloomy expression. He seems to have some kind of quality that sees
through everything. His philosophical style of speech is hard for others to
understand. He has the appearance of a 16 year old, but his age is unknown. His
amber colored eyes and silver hair make him very special. Choas never talks
about his past by name. So no one knows his background, including himself
because of some memory blackouts. This is why everything about him is wrapped
with mystery. "Chaos" is his name.

__M.O.M.O.__
Sex: Female
Height: 141cm
Weight: 36kg
Age: Appearance of about 12 years.
Bio: The only way to capture a Gnosis is to use a "special observer". To
capture the Gnosis an observation-type ReAlien prototype was developed. Joachim
Mizrahi and Juli Mizrahi created the UTIC, a mechanics organization. Through
this they created M.O.M.O. (Multiple Observative Mimetic Organicus), which is
modeled after the appearance of Sakura Mizrahi, their deceased daughter. By
accumulating good deeds, she hopes to fulfill her dream of meeting her father
Joachim in heaven.

__Jr.__
Sex: Male
Height: 140cm
Weight: 38kg
Age: Looks about 12 years old
Jr. represents the board of directors for the Kookai Foundation. The Kookai
Foundation is a financial group rooted within the independent state of Miruchia.
Miruchia is a member of the Galaxy Federation. Jr. appears to be 12 years old.
However no one knows his real age. Despite his childlike appearance, inside he
is just the opposite. He's filled with very extensive knowledge. But sometimes
he asks very child-like questions, at the same time making remarks about the
true nature of things. Collecting old books and rare guns (from our period) is
Jr.'s hobby.

__Ziggy__
Sex: Male
Height: 191cm
Age: 98 years have passed since he donated his body to science. (Appears to be
30 years old)
A battle cyborg charged with the task of escorting 100-Type Observational
Realien "M.O.M.O." In the year 4667 T.C., at the age of 30, after donating his
body to science, he was deployed to the contact subcommittee for use as a battle
cyborg. While alive, his last rank held was (freaking ridiculous string of 17
kanjis). Ziggy becomes commissioned by the federal subcommittee to personally
rescue M.O.M.O.

+------------------------------------+
| 1.2: U.M.N. DATABASE TRANSLATION |
+------------------------------------+
The somebody-at-Monolith-Soft-deserves-a-raise in-game glossary, as translated
by int and duckroll.

Archetype - In Jungian psychology, an inherited pattern of thought or symbolic
imagery derived from the past collective experience and present in the
individual unconscious. Subconsciously responsible for the operation of our
instincts and emotions. In the story, this is the name of the KOS-MOS prototype
assigned to Kevin.

Adaria - One of the Galaxy Federation's planet outposts. The closest planet from
the Woglinde space disaster site. Relay point for the Transfer Column to Senir.

Attract Inhibitor - Zohar Emulator functionality obstruction device. In
biochemistry it refers to the substance (Inhibitor) that obstructs the function
of an enzyme.

Abyss - The abyss literally refers to either a deep, dark hole or Hell. In the
story, it refers to the occurance of a double blackhole in Old Mircea space.

Arashi no naka wa kura - "It was very dark, and the wind howled horribly around
her", from L.F. Baum's 'The Wizard of Oz' (1900 AD).

Albedo - Albedo Piasora. Born in TC 4741, 26 years old. In CG Jung's 'Psychology
and Alchemy', it refers to the process in Alchemy known as the whitening. He has
milky white hair, also known as U.R.T.V. Individual #667.

Albedo's machine - For now, the name and detailed data on this machine is
unknown. Exceeding 10 meters in size, the D.S.S.S. and other details are unknown,
and with one attack it can destroy several thousand meters worth of Gnosis.
Either the machine is different from the AGWS or the main engine is not a normal
generator but a transfer model generator type.

Allen Rigley - Born in TC 4743. 24 years old. Secondary chief of the Operation
System development sector coordinating the KOS-MOS development program in
Vector's Primary Development Bureau. After graduating from Boromeo, joined
Vector's Primary Development Bureau. Although two years the senior of Shion in
age, in Vector he's one year her junior. It appears that he comes from a wealthy
family background, but he has since left that behind and does not wish to dwell
on his past. His hobby is fishing.

Andrew - Born in TC 4731. 36 years old. Lieutenant Colonel in the Federation
Force marines division. Serves as the second-in-command of the cruiser Woglinde,
a deep man with many layers.

Android - The term android was first used by the French author Villiers de
L'Isle Adam (1838-1889) in his work 'Tomorrow's Eve', featuring a man-made
human-like robot named Hadaly. As said by the officer in the story, "In this age
of Realien advancement, who knows what goes on in the mind of those responsible
for these mechanical dolls"

---

Federation Police - Shortened term for "Galatic Government Federation Police
Force". Basic architecture is similar to the modern police system we know,
except it is applied in space. In the past, Ziggy belonged to the Special
strategy command dispatchment corps which conducts anti-terrorism operations,
VIP escorts and rescue missions.

Logic Drive - Logical propeller. A new spaceship propeller replacing the
reactor-type. It works by rewriting the phase of space in the direction of
travel. Because miniaturization is relatively easy, carrier-based aircraft and
AGWS are adopting this new generator.

Lost Jerusalem - Mankind's home planet, lost for thousands of years. The Earth.
Presently, it is unknown whether it still exists.

SOOԑ̃vO (yonhiyakubandai no puroguramu) / 400th Unit Program - A
program designed to measure KOS-MOS' combat abilities.

Ct|bh (raifu poddo) / Life Pod - Life boat. There was one remaining on the
Woglinde when Shion escaped, though it was necessary and expected to carry a
considerable number of life pods. Life pods have a fixed capacity of two people
and was designed to support and sustain life for about 500 hours. There
appeared to be problems associated with the oxygen remainder in the Life Pod
which Shion boarded.

CtTCN̕ψّ (raifurisaikuru no hen'itai) / Life Recycling Mutant - The
biological systems, including the genes and the cranial nervous system that
becomes excessively modified during the process of Life Recycling. Although
mutations commonly affects the mind, depending on the degree of the mutations,
the person may exhibit extraordinary abilities from super-ethereal abilities to
prolonged body functions.

In the case of Andrew, he was given a second adjustment after he was born from
artificial insemination and gene modification. He was latersent to the
battlefield as part of the Military special Infantry Training Program.

CtTCN@ (raifurisaikuruhou) / Life Recycling Method - Submitted as a
Bill to the Federation Parliament in T.C. 4590 and passed 91 years later. It
was later enacted as a law. During that time, cyborg technology has reached its
zenith and human resource was rapidly depleting. It was executed as an
"Effective Use" of human resource law. As time passed, the range in
interpretation of the law itself was expanded. It later became the alternative
to the cloning of genes and cranial nervous system of a person. The methods
differentiated until it reached the area of taboo. This law was enacted for as
many as 160 years, until being abolished in T.C. 4754.

C̉ (rain no otome) / Rhine Maidens - Woglinde, Welgunde and Flosshilde.
According to "Das Rheingold", the opening to the Opera "Ring des Nibelungen" by
Richard Wagner, the three sisters that guard the Rhine Gold which lies beneath
the riverbed.

In Xenosaga, this name crowns the newly-built Vector warships. The super-sized
warships totalling over 8,000 meters in length with its bow equipped with
special anti-Gnosis weapons. There are basically no differentiation in
structure and performance because they are similar ships. The Woglinde, which
was loaned to the GFG Defense Force to collect data in the opening also became
the first Rhine Maiden to be destroyed.

The area that corresponds to the bridge on each warship is structurally the same;
a raised and isolated block installed on the frontal base of the body, like that
of the Woglinde.

sXE[} (rabisu rouman taii) / Captain Ravis Royman - Born on T.C.
4738, 29 years old. Galactic Federation Government special operation commander
and captain of the Intelligence Bureau. Subordinate of Helmah, respresentative
of the Second Miltia Government.

rgX (labyurintosu) / Labyrinthos - A laybrinth constructed on Daedalus
in Crete to confine the half-man half-bull
monster known as the Minotaur. It is uncertain as to why the name was given to
a U-TIC facility. In etymology, "Labrys" refers to a Greek term meaning
"double-edged axe".

AN^[[ (riakutaa ruumu) / Reactor Room - The compartment of the Woglinde
where the main engine is stored. Synonymous with the engine room.

A[h (riaru moudo) / Real Mode - Datas collected from Gnosis used on
simulated environments.

[h (riroudo) / Reload - Originally used to describe the loading of a bullet
into the cylinder of a revolver. Here, the terms is used to describe the re-
filling of operative energy.

xh (rubedo) / Rubedo -
From C.G. Jung's "Psychology and Alchemy", the process of turning red in alchemy.
U.R.T.V. individual No. 666 (Jr.) differs from other U.R.T.V. due to its crimson
red hair. Considerably smaller in size compared to Gaignun, he is given a
pseudo-name of Gaignun Jr.

AG (rearien) / Realien -
Synthetic humans. It is written as 'REALIEAN'. An existence strictly
constructed from molecular engineering; the body structure consists of various
types of materials, depending on the Realien type usage classification,
including silicon and depening on type: from human-type with an additional
carbon-based composite, to types utilizing liquid metal base.

Most of the realiens working on the Woglinde were hybrid types produced by
Vector. Their bodies are composed of a synthesized carbon and silicon material.

After the Miltia dispute, emotional control are not administered to Realiens
deployed on environments subjected to severe circumstances, such as armies or
planetary remodelling. Basic human rights are also legally recognized.

However, due to a few disagreements and biases during the establishment of
Realiean Rights, Realiens seem to have the tendency to adopt the same
personality. Part of this biased treament states that Realiens are
consequentially inferior to humans, are restricted to perform the abilities
respective to their types, and are not able to committ crimes.

The key program, aka, the central nervous system are all OEM of Vector. This is
the Black Box, which controls the design, range and dimension of the 'Mente'
(mind). It can only be adjusted at the Vector Headquarters.

A (renrakujikkenjunbi) / Connection Experiment Preparation - Zohar
Emulator initiation experiment carried out by Andrew. During communication
transmissions, the 'process of connecting the existence to Zohar' was mentioned.

AM͑ (renpoukantai) / Federation Fleet - Refers to the armada of space
battleships owned by the Galactic Federation
Government military. In the Federation Fleet, the navy and space marines are
integrated to form a singular Federal Military Defense League. The fleets that
are deployed to a space region consists of one of two divisions, the space army
and the Marines. There is another special operation division not included in
this fleet.

AM͑i (renpoukantaishirei) / Federation Fleet Commander - Gedalya District
Fleet commander. Faithful to duty and discipline, ranking as General Admiral.
Separated from younger brother during childhood.

AMc (renpougikai) / Federation Parliament - 10,000 political representatives
from different planetary states congregate for political and strategic meetings.
Represenatives are UMN'ed to Fifth Jerusalem, the central capital and the main
planet of the enitre galactic government.

AMx@ (renpoukeisatsu) / Federation Police - Shortened term for "Galatic
Government Federation Police Force". Basic
architecture is similar to the modern police system we know, except it is
applied in space. In the past, Ziggy belonged to the Special strategy command
dispatchment corps which conducts anti-terrorism operations, VIP escorts and
rescue missions.

WJhCu (rojikaru doraibu) / Logic Drive - Logical propeller. A new
spaceship propeller replacing the reactor-type.
It works by rewriting the phase of space in the direction of travel. Because
miniaturization is relatively easy, carrier aircraft and A.G.W.S. are adopting
this new type of generator.

XgEGT (rosto eusaremu) / Lost Jerusalem - Mankind's home planet, lost
for thousands of years. The Earth. Presently, it is unknown whether it still
exists.

x (Y-shiryou) / Y-Data (shiryou translates to "Materials" or "Data") - The
research data that Joachim left. Both U-TIC and the Contact Sub COmmitteeare
actively searching for this data. In the story, it is assumed the data lies
deep in MOMO's memories. From the dialogues, it seems to have significance in
Project Zohar.

fAAhl (wakusei Ariadne) / Planet Ariadne - 1.5 billion inhabitants. A
planet under the league of the Galactic Federation Government which disappeared
upon the experimentation of a Zohar Emulator. There were U-TIC research
facilities on this planet. Andrew was placed on this planet after receiving
Life Recycling treatment.

Stats, diagrams, mechanics, and other objective material.

+------------------------------------+
| 2.1: EXPLORATION |
+------------------------------------+
As explained by jetfuel

When running around the various locations of the game, there are a few things to
keep in mind.

__Movement__
Walk around with the left analog stick, unless you are old-school and you like
the directional pad. Pushing the stick further in one direction makes your
character walk faster, then jog, then run. Holding R2 will put you in walk-only
mode, which is useful for sneaking around enemies. Coming into contact with an
enemy will put you into a battle.

__The O Button__
Hit O to open doors, talk to people, open boxes, take items, hit big red
switches, read maps, activate cranes, or do pretty much anything else that
involves interaction with the environment around your character.

__Save points__
The big rotating yellow things are save points, and you can save your game at
them by hitting O. You may also recover your characters' stats at one by using a
Xy[Xeg / Space Tent. If the save point has a blue plate attached to the
top of it, then it has few additional features: you can play Xenocard, play AGWS
battling, visit the casino (see Book 5 for info on these games), or use the
E.V.S. (see chapter 2.8)

__Shopping__
The big rotating silver things are shops. You can buy or sell items and
equipment there.

__Blowing Stuff Up__
You can use the U.M.N. to blow stuff up. If your character passes by stuff that
can be blown up, a blue indicator will appear and a sound will play. Hit S to
blow that stuff up. You may open up new areas, discover items, or encounter
enemies when blowing stuff up. Some stuff, when blown up, will release some kind
of temporary ill effect for your enemies on the field (lightning, fire, etc.).
If you can lure an enemy into one of these, then the effect will be displayed.
If you then fight the enemy, it will be at an appropriate disadvantage.

__Menu__
You can call up your main menu by hitting T. This menu is explained in detail in
chapter 2.8.

__Radar__
In the lower right corner, there is a blue radar screen. Your character's
location and facing are indicated by a red triangle. Enemies are indicated by
yellow triangles. Non-hostile characters are indicated by green triangles. Yes,
the red/yellow designation seems counter-intuitive. I guess Japanese have
different connotations for these colors.

+------------------------------------+
| 2.2: BATTLE |
+------------------------------------+
As explained by jetfuel and Ashley

The basics of battle are covered by the in-game tutorial, the translation for
which can be found in Book 4's Walkthrough. Let's take a look at Xenosaga's
excellent battle system.

__Attacking__
Basically, you have two kinds of attacks: short range and long range. When it is
your character's turn in battle, you can choose a target and then hit T to
execute a long range attack, or S to execute a short range attack. You can keep
attacking as long as you have AP (Action Points), which is indicated in the blue
meter near your character's portrait. You may stop attacking by hitting X. Each
turn you get 4 AP. If you do not use all of your AP in one turn, it will carry
over to the next turn. Regular attacks take 2 AP each. Sometimes you may score a
critical hit, which does more damage than usual. In a typical turn, you might
hit T and then S, thus doing two attacks and using all of your 4 AP for that
turn.

__Deathblows__
If you have enough AP, you can execute a Deathblow by hitting O. Some Deathblows
require that you precede them with regular attacks. Check out your Deathblow
menu to view and edit which attack combinations are associated with which
Deathblows. As an example, on one turn you might hit T to do a regular, long-
range attack, then hit X to stop attacking and let your AP carry over. On the
next turn, you hit S, S, O, using all of your 6 AP to unleash a LW Speed
Deathblow.

__Menu__
Instead of attacking on your turn, you can hit X to call up the menu. Hit X
again to return to the attacks. The battle menu contains the following options:
    _ETHER_
These are your character's "spells". Choose an Ether, then choose a target, if
required. This uses 4 AP.
    _ITEM_
This lets you use an item. Choose an item, then choose a target. This uses 1 AP.
    _MOVE_
You can move to another location on the battlefield. This affects your attack
and defense. Characters in the back row will not be able to use, or be hit by,
physical attacks.
    _AGWS_
Use this to board your AGWS You will be prompted for a location where you would
like to deploy.
    _GUARD_
This makes your character guard until her next turn.

__Boost__
The Boost gauge is the red gauge near your AP gauge. It fills up as you attack,
and once full increments the number next to it and empties again. Boost allows
you to slip a character's turn into the round preemptively. When a character has
at least one boost gauge filled, and is not already present in the turn queue at
the bottom right, you can hold down R2 and a Boost icon will show up. Eligible
characters will show up around it, and you then hit the appropriate button(S is
left, T is up, O is right). That character's icon will then be inserted into the
queue immediately after the current turn.

__G.T.W.__
At the bottom right of the screen is a blue field called the G.T.W., or Group
Turn Window. It shows a diagram of the battlefield, including all allies and
enemies. The currently targeted ally or enemy will be indicated by a line, and
by having its portrait slightly offset in the queue. Enemies are indicated as
type B (biological), M (mechanical), or G (Gnosis). If you are able to see
enemies' hit points, they will be displayed here as well. The queue of portraits
in the middle indicates in what order characters will act during this round of
battle. At the beginning of a round, icons are put into the queue according to
one's speed attribute. As turns are taken, the icons file out the left side of
the queue. Keep an eye on who will be taking the next turn, as you might be able
to kill a monster right before it attacks, or you might find reassurance in
knowing that your healing character will have the next turn. Also keep in mind
that the queue can be altered by the use of Boosts, by both you and your enemies.

__Event Slot__
Next to the G.T.W. is a little slot-machine looking thingie that rolls over each
turn. It has 4 possible settings, each of which affects in a different way the
combat that takes place during that turn. The little orange burst increases the
effectiveness of critical hits. The gold ring-looking thing increases the rate
at which your Boost gauge fills. The coin looking thing gives you extra Tp and
Ep points with each kill made on that turn. The amount of points received
varies, with a high chance of getting x2 points, sometimes x4 points, and rarely
x10 points. The blank one does nothing.

50%.

Also note there are other hats, armors, and accessories that just don't have a

| 2.8: AGWS DATA |
+------------------------------------+
Info on the battle robots, as contributed by Jack Power.

____BASIC AGWS STRATEGIES____
-Level up! While AGWS have their own set of stats, their ether power, ether
defense, hit rate and evade rate are equal to their pilot. So, don't ignore your
character's stats. (The VX series AGWS also have a anti-ether armor coat which
gives an extra 4 or 8 EARM. I guess that's why they're shiny.)
-Upgrade! If you have the cash (which is no problem if you're good at poker), it
goes without saying that you should keep all your AGWS's as updated as possible.
Revisit the Dock Colony and Foundation parts shops as much as possible, since
they get new wares after story events. However, if you know you won't be using a
certain AGWS for a while (or ever...) you can forgo upgrades and save some money.
-Mini-maximize! The attack power of all non-ether weapons is related to the
AGWS's DPOW. So, equipping a pair of axes will increase the damage done by your
missile launcher too. Ether weapons depend entirely on the pilot. So, it's best
to equip either all physical attack weapons or all ether weapons to minimize
ineficiency and maximize power.
-Metagame! Think about what enemies you'll be facing and equip your mechs
accordingly. Fighting large groups of annoying soldiers? Put on some missile
launchers. Up against a boss with strong defense? Try beam rifles.
-W-ACT! Having two weapons with the W-Act ability is often your best bet.
Because a double attack combines the damage of the two weapons before figuring
the enemy's defense, you'll end up doing more damage than with two regular
attacks (especially if you get a critical hit). Plus, double attacks use only
one ammo point and no EP.
-Speed! One of the biggest weaknesses of AGWS is their speed is lower than most
characters. Speed boosting accessories should be a major priority, as well as
keeping the weight down by going easy on the heavy weapons. AGWS also can't
boost either, unless you equip the B-MAX gear, and even then your AGWS boost
guage still won't increase when attacking.
-Heal! Repair at shops when you get the chance (including after every frame
upgrade); it's only 100G. Repair kits are available later in the game if you
know the right shops, but be sure to get a Guard Recover for each AWGS you use.
These repair 10% of your mech's max HP every time you Guard. Guarding then
becomes a viable strategy, since you're healing, taking less damage, and saving
up AP for a double attack the next round!

____BATTLES WHERE AGWS ARE PARTICULARLY USEFUL____
-Straight physical attackers. If you're keeping your AGWS upgraded, their
defense will be much higher than your characters. Feel free to laugh as the
soldiers or cobolts plink your mechs for 0 damage.
-Status attackers. If you're up against enemies who use poison or some other
nasty affliction every round and you don't have protection, get in your AGWS
first turn. You'll be immune to almost all normal status effects. There are a
few statuses that can affect your AGWS, but hardly any enemies that I've seen
actually use them.
-Boss inside the Giant Gnosis. Once you take care of his two little buddies, the
Gargoyle powers up and launches some nasty attacks, and at this point your
characters probably aren't strong enough to survive very long. Hop in your AGWS,
and assuming you've upgraded them the fight is a sinch.
-The church boss in Encephalon. Tiamat is the trickiest fight in the game, bar
none. You're stuck with three characters who can use AGWS, so you might as well
take advantage of that. First, equip their AGWS with a Guard Recover and a Guard
Cleaner, and have everyone board their bots as soon as the battle begins. Have
Chaos do most of the attacking at first because he won't be counterattacked.
Finally, just kill him with both Shion and Jr.; it still counts if they're in
their AGWS.
-The boss in Nephilim's Song. Shimeon has very high attack and defense power, so
you'll probably want to use your AGWS at some point. It doesn't do any status
attacks, but it has a very nasty beam weapon you may be familiar with, so equip
accordingly.

____COMPLETE AGWS LISTING____

__VX SERIES__

_VX-4000_
Height: 4.12m
Weight: 2.63t
Transfer Generator: 19.7
DSSS rating: 4.8ms
Description: Buy at the Dock Colony for 50000G (available as soon as you get to
explore the Kookai Foundation). It cannot equip heavy weapons like rifles, but
has 7 AGL and good ether defense.
Equipment: Starts with a pair of ER-VX electron shooters which only it can use.
They're useful against mechanical enemies, so you may opt to keep them. ALso
comes with a ECM (electronic Countermeasures) pod ECM1-VX, which is useful for
inflicting status effects on machines.
Optimal equipment: Your options are a bit limited. After Nephilim's Song appears,
you'll be able to buy an ECM pod which affects all enemies (ECM2-VX) and the
DEF-VX Ether Shield. Equipping either one deprives you of a potential weapon, so
choose wisely.

_VX-7000_
Height: 4.98m
Weight: 3.24t
Transfer Generator: 24.4
DSSS rating: 4.3ms
Description: Junior's AGWS. One of Vector's military mechs, customized with a
Logical Drive. Usually has the most HP of the 3 default AGWS.
Equipment: Starts with a pair of HG45VX handguns. They have plenty of ammo and
allow a W-Act every 3rd round. Obviously, get the uprated HG75VX handguns at the
Foundation shop when you first arrive.
Optimal equipment: The spread lancer (LW-VX2) is exclusive to this AGWS and its
strongest weapon, but it has disadvantages as well. If your pilot has weak Ether
you're better off with something else. A pair of grenade launchers (GRD20AG) has
the same AGL penalty and might suit your fancy.

_VX-9000_
Height: 4.95m
Weight: 3.01t
Transmit Generator: 21.0
DSSS rating: 4.0ms
Description: Used by a solider from the Durandal [NPC]. Accompanies Mary and
Junior on their raid of an enemy battleship.
Equipment: Has a pair of SWD32VX swords. Equipment cannot be changed.

_VX-10000_
Height: 4.95m
Weight: 3.11t
Transmit Generator: 22.5
DSSS rating: 3.8ms
Description: Shion's AGWS. Supposedly built as a multi-purpose mech for the
common market. Slightly lower HP than the other default AGWS, and average in its
abilities.
Equipment: Starts with a SWD21AG and an SMG99AG. I recommend selling the machine
gun and getting a second sword, but as long as you equip them in pairs any
weapon should do fine. If your driver has high Ether power, I recommend a pair
of beam arms later.
Optimal equipment: Personally I prefer a pair of beam swords, but since this
mech doesn't have an "ultimate weapon" to work with it's up to you. Be sure to
add a chaff launcher (CB85VX) as well.

_VX-20000_
Height: 5.22m
Weight: 4.25t
Transmit Generator: 27.1
DSSS rating: 5.2ms
Description: Mary's AGWS [NPC]. Big and mean. Has 1200HP and high defense. Why
exactly does Mary have one of the most bad-ass AGWS?
Equipment: A pair of LG24VX beam rifles. Equipment cannot be changed.

__AG series__

_AG-01_
Height: 4.40m
Weight: 3.80t
Transmit Generator: 18.63
DSSS rating: 6.8ms
Desciption: Simple all-purpose mech. Used by soldiers on the Woglinde. Non-
playable (which is good, since they get trashed so easily).

_AG-02_
Height: 4.48m
Weight: 3.97t
Transmit Generator: 20.11
DSSS rating: 6.8ms
Description: Chaos's AGWS. Variant of the AG-01. Also used by Virgil. Well-
rounded and seems best suited for rifles and beam weapons.
Equipment: Starts with a pair of LG10AG rifles. These are OK, but if you have
the cash, upgrade to a pair of SMG32VX. Be sure to get a pair of LG24VX rifles
when you can; they're good weapons and you'll never see them later.
Optimal equipment: This is the only AGWS that can use the SHB67AG shield rifle,
so you might want to try it. It's not that powerful, but it seems to add
significantly to defense when Guarding. I also recommend a BL24AG beam launcher
or LG100VX long beam rifle. After Nephilim's Song appears, you'll be able to buy
the ultimate fan-service weapon: AIRD-AG2 Aerods. They're powerful, but limit
your AGWS in speed and other equipment.

_AG-04_
Height: 4.20m
Weight: 3.56t
Transmit Generator: 16.0
DSSS rating: 6.8ms
Description: Buy at the Dock Colony for 80000G (available as soon as Nephilim's
Song appears). Though it looks a bit odd, it has very high HP and attack power
as well as 7 AGL.
Equipment: Starts with "hands" (it punches enemies). Obviously you want to
upgrade to those gyrosaucers (WCT02AG4) ASAP. It can only use a few different
weapons though.
Optimal Equipment: You don't have much selection here, so get the pair of drill
claws (DLCOAG4). You also might want to throw on a missile pod (SMP53AG) since
this bot can take the AGL hit easily and needs the versatility.

_AG-05_
Height: 4.80m
Weight: 5.69t
Transmit Generator: 22.8
DSSS rating: 6.8ms
Description: Buy at the Dock Colony for a whopping 300000G (available when the
Wheel of Heaven appears). Huge and evil, with 6000HP and the best offense and
defense, but has only 5 AGL. Makes many of us nostalgic for Gears.
Optimal equipment: There are a ton of weapons exclusive to this monster, but it
can only equip 1 weapon in most of these cases.
-A pair of vulcan cannons (HGG-AG5). They do around 700-900 damage on a normal
hit against the final boss, and can W-Act. Highly recommended.
-A warhammer (HMP-AG5). It adds a lot to your power and does even more damage
than the vulcans. Good for long battles, but lacks versatility.
-An artillery cannon (LC-AG5). Probably the most powerful AGWS weapon available.
Expect a few thousand damage per hit. However, it only has a couple of shots per
battle, gives -1 AGL, and needs 6AP to use.
-A massive beam cannon (BBC-AG5). If your driver has very high Ether and EP, it
is potentially even stronger than the artillery cannon. Also takes 6AP to use
and a -1 AGL penalty, and eats up EP like other beam weapons.
-Missile launchers. The arm-mounted ones (HMP-AG5) have 2 shots each, and no W-
act. The back-mounted pod (BMP-AG5) has only 1 shot but that one shot will
likely kill any normal enemy group you're fighting. For both power and
versatility, your best bet is to equip the BMP and either a HMP or a HGG.

POW shows how much strength the equipment adds to drive power, or in the case of
beam weapons, shows their ether attack modifier. Note that increasing the AGWS's
power increases the damage of all non-beam weapons equipped.
Location tells where the weapon can be equipped. If there is a number after it,
it refers to how much space the weapon takes up.

__KEZ Deathblow Menu__
    _Zbg / Set_
To the left are possible button combinations for attacks. You can assign
deathblows to these button combinations.@ "SetList/HI" slots can only hold
Deathblows with "HI" speed ratings. "SetList/LW" slots can hold HI or LW
Deathblows. At the bottom you see@"gp / Times Used" and "| / Kills"
stats for each Deathblow. By each button combo: / close range; / far range.
    _|Cgz / Distribute Points_
Each Deathblow has three attributes you can level up: Tech, Speed, and Wait. On
the right side of the screen, "Lv" is the current level of the attribute and
"T.Pt" is the number of T.Pts you need to level it up. If you see "UP OK" next
to an attribute, it can be leveled up. Tech represents the effectiveness of the
Deathblow. Speed determines in which slots you can set the Deathblow (HI speed
Deathblows can be used after only one normal attack, while LW speed requires 2).
(Ashley's personal note: HI speed deathblows are the key to kicking ass in this
game!)

Cutscenes translated and explained. As a general rule, any scene that includes
spoken dialogue will be covered here. Other scenes are more likely covered in
the Walkthrough section, Book 4. We're not going to be writing these sections in
the strict order that they appear in the game; if there is one scene that you'd
like to see a translation for, please let us know so that we have an idea of
what the demand is like.

SHION
Allen? The visual field connection seems to be a little bad...

ALLEN
Uh, er... Ah! The K12 route of the MT field has a disconnection.
Also, the mutual link for the V4 field seems to be delayed.
Wait a moment. I'm correcting it now.
How is that, boss?

SHION
OK. It's acceptable.
Go on.

ALLEN
Roger.
All right, entering KOS-MOS's (technobabble)

SHION
Good morning, KOS-MOS. How's your condition?

KOS-MOS
Good morning, Shion. All operations nominal.

SHION
All right, do your self-introduction for me?

KOS-MOS
I am Special Humanoid Anti-Gnosis Annihilation Weapon Serial Number 000000001.
Development Name KP-X.
Code Name, KOS-MOS.
Presently configured for mock battle use.
Output is set at 22% of regular output limit.
Planned battle equipment specs are--
SHION
Yes, good work.
That's enough.

KOS-MOS
Yes.

SHION
We've been looking forward to your activation, but the next activation
experiment, after a series of tests, you'll be put back to sleep.

KOS-MOS
Is that so.

SHION
Do you feel sadness-- or anything?

KOS-MOS
My ortificial-being emotional program was designed for easy use by humans.
Specifically, by you--
Vector Primary Development Department KOS-MOS Project Head Engineer,
Shion Uzuki, and to preserve relations with her/you. (This is really hard to get
across while preserving the sentence order)

KOS-MOS
If my emotional program evaluates that emulation of 'sadness' is necessary, I
will behave in that manner.
However, presently that necessity has not been evaluated to exist.

SHION
Tee hee. Yeah, I guess.
That's the one thing I feel the most.

KOS-MOS
I am glad that you understand.

SHION
But, KOS-MOS...
Right now, my feelings are very complicated.
I'm happy when you've been awakened, but... that you're going to be put back to
sleep makes me feel very lonely.
But, the next time you are awakened,
It might be a time of much bloodshed.
So, somewhere in my heart, I think that I don't want that day to come.
Do you understand?

KOS-MOS
Complicated human emotions, particularly illogical ones, are imcomprehensible to
me.

SHION
Yes-- Someday, if you could understand such feelings, that would be good.

KOS-MOS
I will do my best.

SHION
Well then, shall we begin, KOS-MOS?
Allen, continuing from last time, please start us from program 277.

ALLEN
Roger.
Arranging target drones in various locations around the Encephalon.
Drones are set up for Random Walk and Ambush.
Boss. Before starting the mission, there'll be a practice exercise.

SHION
Yeah, let's do that. You heard, right, KOS-MOS?

KOS-MOS
Understood.

(Tutorial Begins; see section 4.1.1)

____3.1.2: Post-Tutorial____
From the time the tutorial ends til the VR sim begins, as translated by jetfuel.

ALLEN
Boss. Data transfer complete.

ALLEN
A-LINE Protocol seems good, doesn't it?

SHION
Seems that way. Reaction levels seem good.

ALLEN
In this condition, if you get a good result nearby, you should be able to go
further out.

SHION
That's true...

Shion looks at KOS-MOS

ALLEN
Boss?

SHION
Hey, Allen.
Cut off up to program 399.
Let's try starting from 400.

ALLEN
From 400!? Boss, that's--

SHION
I have a feeling we'll be able to do it this time.

ALLEN
Ah, but...
You haven't already forgotten about last month, have you?
That time the support was lagged 10 seconds...
That's the kind of situation you can't return from.
What about at least using object mode?

SHION
Then we can't collect very detailed data.
It's all right. If we get into trouble we can get out by ourselves.
Anyway, don't you want to try it?
We all stayed up all those long nights for the A-LINE native...

ALLEN
That's true, but...

SHION
Then it's settled! Let's start!

ALLEN
I don't know.
If there's that one in a million chance that we are forced to cut the
connection...
You don't have to be so persistent!

SHION
I know, I know!
Also, if we lose the menu...
I said, I know.

ALLEN
Man, being all casual about it...
That time (something about life span)

FEMALE OPERATOR
Sub-boss, you really seem to be particularly worried about boss Uzuki...
Her days are numbered, anyway. (?)

ALLEN
Shut up!
Don't talk about things that are none of your business!
Program number 400. Are you ready?

MALE OPERATOR
Ready.
We can go any time.

ALLEN
Then start the program!
Give me all monitoring at maximum levels!
Be ready to abort at the slightest problem!

____3.1.X: The Long One____
This is the notorious nearly-one-hour cut scene. Grab some popcorn, dippin dots,
and a large Sprite, put down the controller, and relax. This scene appears
courtesy of Henry Jerng.

SHION
(surprised)
Commander Andrew!

ANDREW
What? What business do you guys have here...

Several Gnosis caterpillars march toward the group despite hails of bullets.
Following Shion's steps, Allen and Virgil back into the great hall.

ANDREW
(looking at the creatures)
Gn, Gnosis.

KOS-MOS casually joins the rest of the party with her Gatling guns in tow.

ANDREW
(looking at KOS-MOS)
Did you ... wake up?

KOS-MOS lines up with Virgil and Allen and opens fire with one of her two
Gatling guns. All three proceed to launch a barrage of fires.

VIRGIL
(mad)
Come and get it! Come and get it! Come and get it! Eat this! You bastards!

Shion picks up a rifle and joins the others in attacking the Gnosis entering the
hall. Suddenly, two Gnosis humanoids plop down right behind Shion. Surprised,
she tilts her head to look back. Virgil sees Shion in trouble and comes to her
rescue.

Allen and KOS-MOS finally finished the Gnosis coming through the entrance and
start to come to Shion's aid. KOS-MOS' autofiring system tries to target the
Gnosis, but Virgil keeps getting in the way. Undeterred, KOS-MOS fires her
Gatling gun, landing countless bullets into Virgil. As he fell, he sees the
image of a blonde-haired woman.

Virgil's death clears the way for KOS-MOS to launch a direct assault on the
Gnosis. She quickly finishes them off. Shocked by KOS-MOS' actions, Shion
drops her rifle, falls to her knees, and covers her mouth to keep herself from
throwing up.

KOS-MOS
This ship is sinking. Please hurry.

KOS-MOS walks toward Zohar, which is surrounded by rings.

SHION
(still sitting on the ground. angry)
Please wait, KOS-MOS.
KOS-MOS,
(KOS-MOS stops in her tracks)
Do you understand what you just did?

KOS-MOS
(her back facing Shion)
The duty assigned to me is the protection of Vector personnels, you two.
I do not have instructions to protect military personnels.

SHION
(shaking her head)
Don't say such stupid thing, because it's ridiculous for killing others to be
okay.
Why did you shoot lieutenant Virgil?
Even if you don't sacrifice him, with your power---

KOS-MOS
At that time, lieutenant Virgil was in my line of fire.
If I had put off my firing and went around him to come to your protection, it's
expected that my attack ability would have decreased less than 30% by going from
a twelve-o-clock to a one-o-clock direction.
Compare to that, by killing the lieutenant first, the decrease in my attack did
not drop more than 0.2%.
I just made a reliable choice in order to make sure you're alive.
(Allen puts his left hand on Shion's left shoulder. KOS-MOS continues.)
Besides, the pod's seating capacity is two.
It's certainly clear who and who have the priority.

SHION
(turning to look at KOS-MOS)
That is too mean. Don't you have any conscience?

KOS-MOS
Shion, I am not "human". I am just a "weapon". That is what you're supposed to
know the best.
(Pause)
What are you going to do? Are you going aboard? Are you not going aboard?
If you feel like grieving for his death, I would advise you to live.
If you do not, he will turn out to have had a "useless death".

ALLEN
Chief, well, let's go.

KOS-MOS walks away as Shion follows. Andrew taps at the control panel for the
rings surrounding Zohar. Even he steps back when KOS-MOS nears. KOS-MOS steps
on the platform next to Zohar and focuses her attention on a big red Aleph at
its center.

Suddenly, the ground shakes. It's a big Gnosis boss---!!

---

After the boss is defeated, a horde of little flying Gnosis converges around
Zohar. KOS-MOS does her best to exterminate them, but they manage to steal it.

The ship breaks apart, and then the bottom part explodes. We see KOS-MOS and
Andrew, in spacesuit, standing atop the escape pod.

One of the whale-like Gnosis opens up and swallows up the Zohar. KOS-MOS
mumbles something that we cannot hear because of the vacuum of space. KOS-MOS'
coffin joins up with the pod.

KOS-MOS
(image of the Zohar pops up on her monitor)
---Yes. The object was not the original.
(image of KOS-MOS' brain and brain stem appears. A black spot is magnified
from her right cerebral hemisphere , while the Aleph on Zohar is enlarged.)
---Yes. It's an emulator.
---Understood.
After marking, I will urgently leave the current area, continue the original
plan, and head for the second Miltia.

The whales open up some spatial fold as they prepare to make a jump. KOS-MOS
conjures up a big gun between her hands, points it at the whales, and fires.
The shots went into the spatial field, and the Gnosis whales disappear. KOS-MOS
then maps the stars and scans for a ship. Luckily, she finds one heading right
for them.

(SAVE GAME)

We see the ship that responded to the distress call making its way through the
debris.

CAPTAIN'S VOICE
Is everything annihilated?-----
They sure did a clean job, those scoundrels.
Isn't there anything left?
Hey, Tonny! About how long ago was the Federation ship seized?

We see Elsa's bridge. Tonny, the pilot, sits at the front.

TONNY
Let me see. The last distress signal was sent 30 minutes ago.
No matter how fast we're going, it still took less than 3 hours.
(scratching his head, turning to his left toward Mathews the captain)
There are no ships nearby.
Well, Hammer?

HAMMER
(relaxed. with his hands wrapped behind his back)
Yep. We're the only ship in an area with a radius of 5000 light years.
(looking up at the captain)

MATHEWS
(sitting with his legs crossed)
Okay.
(throwing his left fist into his right palm)
That's just perfect. Let's pilfer anything that we can try to sell.

HAMMER
Hey, captain.
However close the date for paying your debt to gentleman Gaignun is coming up,
isn't this just a little embarrassing?
If we're caught by the police, we won't be able to avoid doing 10 years at least.

MATHEWS
The main point is that you're talking about "if" we get caught.
Is the police going to take the trouble to come to such a remote region and make
patrols?

HAMMER
So, even if you're not behaving as if you're stealing from the dead, don't you
somehow feel like a hyena, or just becoming a space bearcat or jackal?

MATHEWS
(steps and pushes on the back of Hammer's seat, throwing him forward)
You idiot! What sort of comparison is that?
(pointing and waving his right hand at Hammer)
Aren't they all extinct animals?
For luck, just call it graceful recycling: recycling.

TONNY
(joining in)
As if recycling is tied to that master Gaignun.
I wonder if it's all right for the Foundation's image to fall.
Wait, a ruined ship is discovered in the three-o-clock direction. It's a
Ganymede class.

MATHEWS
Oh. Bravo, Tonny!
Our interception of UMN emergency bandwidth has just paid off.
Let's get there quickly--- Quickly!

HAMMER
(mumbling)
As expected, a vulture---

MATHEWS
(sticking his head out)
You...

Elsa approaches the debris field.

HAMMER
(typing on his console)
Spectral, wide open.
Geo crystal is flashing.

MATHEWS
Okay! This is good omen.
First, let's get that.

Tonny stares out into space and sees a floating body. He gets scared and looks
back at Mathews.

TONNY
Isn't, isn't that a corpse?
What Geo crystal? What the...

MATHEWS
----- "Aren't you the scary cat?"
This is the remains of a battlefield.
It's nothing especially uncommon.
We're just wasting our motor's propulsion.
I don't care for it. Push it aside.

TONNY
(after getting out from his seat)
Are, are you joking?
I was severely told by my dead grand mother to respect my ancestors.
No joking- I'll get cursed.
Captain, you do it.

MATHEWS
You idiot!
What? That's something like your grandpa?
Isn't that some weird reason.
Let's move out right now without saying four or five words.

TONNY
Wait.
(KOS-MOS crashes into the bridge's window and bounces off)
Isn't the captain always like this?
You're always imposing all these detestable things on us.

KOS-MOS gets lodged on the ship's left side window, with everyone staring.

MATHEWS
You, you stupid idiot.
How about just letting it go.
Let it go. I say just let it bounce off.

TONNY
We're heading in a direction to catch it.
That isn't my fault.

MATHEWS
It's all right, so just excuse yourself right now.

HAMMER
(looking at KOS-MOS)
Ah, but this corpse looks like a girl.
She may be a splendid beauty. He, he, he
(pointing to KOS-MOS)

MATHEWS
It's no laughing matter, you pervert.
There's no reason to salivate over a beauty when it's a corpse.

TONNY
Yeah. And we've run into her.
Still, it's regrettable that I can't meet her alive face to face---

KOS-MOS moves and looks at them with her red eyes. That throws the crew into
shock and causes them to scream.

KOS-MOS
(with her hands pressed against the window)
Please open a line of communication.
I have something I want to talk about.
The frequency is 2020.

HAMMER
(stunned)
The corpse talked.

MATHEWS
(looking at Hammer)
You, you fool!
Take a good look.
This is no corpse.

TONNY
(sitting in the pilot's seat, praying)
Nanmandabu, nanmandabu---

MATHEWS
A Realien or a cyborg--- probably something like that.

HAMMER
B, but I've never heard of a Realien that can function in vacuum.

MATHEWS
So, so it's probably something like a military robot. It's safe, so open a
channel.

Hammer presses a few buttons and opens a channel.

MATHEWS
I am captain Mathews of the tramp steamer Elsa.
A little while ago, we received your distress signal.
By chance you were in the vicinity of this ship's course, and as soon as we
heard the emergency we hurried to your rescue---

HAMMER
(turning his head toward Mathews)
Sure, a rescue.

Mathews sticks his big right foot sharply against Hammer's seat, throwing
Hammer's face forward.

MATHEWS
(clearing his throat, crossing his arms)
Um, I wonder if there isn't anything we can assist with?

HAMMER
(whispering)
Such rescue----- How about helping with the work or "recycling"?

MATHEWS
(leaning forward toward Hammer, whispering)
You fool! We'll pretend we're here for a rescue and then get rid of her at our
first opportunity.
It's regrettable, but we can't leave anyone alive behind, you know.

KOS-MOS
I'm going to get right to the point.
Please make a gate jump for the second Miltia right now.

MATHEWS
(looking up at KOS-MOS)
Hah, little sister.
If that was sleep talking, then say it in a bed.
We still have "work" to do here.
Can't we start on that immediately?
It would be such a gift.
As for second Miltia, do you know just how much it costs, other than it's long
distance travel?

KOS-MOS
Don't worry.
If it's the fee for the UMN gate, "we" have it.

MATHEWS
Can I trust such indecent talk?
Even if for argument's sake what you say is true, we are held up by business
prearrangments.
We have no free time, no free time.

KOS-MOS
I too have no time.
If you do not follow my instructions, I will destroy this window.

MATHEWS
(mad, waving his right index finger at KOS-MOS)
Heh. If you can do it, just you try.
(KOS-MOS launches off from the window...)
Elsa's front window was made to sustain a direct hit by a debris 6 millimeter in
diameter.
(KOS-MOS stands up)
Something like little sister's soft punch can't even make a crack-----

KOS-MOS punches the front window and makes severe cracks in it.

KOS-MOS
The window will break in my next punch.
You apparently are not wearing your spacesuits.
(Hammer is hiding behind his seat)
Here is my "good faith" proposal.
As it stands now, I can occupy the ship after releasing you guys into space.

Mathews looks back at KOS-MOS, contemplating what to do next. KOS-MOS quietly
lifts her right hand.

MATHEWS
(arms stretched out in fear)
----- Wow. We'll go. We'll go.
Yes, don't be irritated.

KOS-MOS
If you had simply complied from the start, this could have been settled in 1
minute and 45 seconds without waste of time.
(Mathews has his left hand behind his back, moving to give a special signal)
Now, I will get aboard. Please open the cargo bay.

MATHEWS
(still shaking his hand behind his back)
Understood.

KOS-MOS
Or...

Tonny sees Mathew's signal.

MATHEWS
Wha, what?

Tonny reaches for a trigger.

KOS-MOS
Do not contemplate something like trying to shake me off by making the ship
undergo emergency acceleration.

Mathews emits a groan.

HAMMER
(nodding his head)
She completely saw through you.

MATHEWS
(tilting his cap, shaking his head)
Shut up.

KOS-MOS leaps off the front window. Her coffin catches up with her as she
thrusts toward the back of the ship where the cargo bay is located.

<LONG PAUSE>

We find KOS-MOS standing in front of Mathews.

HAMMER
(leaning back, facing Mathews)
Hey, Captain. A communication is coming in on the all-use channel.

MATHEWS
Communication? Survivors?

HAMMER
Yes----- Switching over to the speakers now.

MALE VOICE
Excuse me---------- Isn't there anybody out there?---

We see the drifting escape pod surrounded by debris. Andrew is clinging on
tightly for life.

ALLEN
Anybody? Anyone listening to this communication, somebody please help----. Hey
chief, you (help) too.

SHION
(sitting in the front seat)
We'll be all right. Soon enough rescue will come even if you don't do THAT.
Hey, more importantly, I wonder where is that KOS-MOS?-----

ALLEN
I don't know. As it is, maybe the Gnosis is still around.

SHION
That's not what I'm concerned about now. We must recover KOS-MOS quickly.

ALLEN
(placing his left hand on some trackball-looking controller)
More important than KOS-MOS is our rescue. Our rescue! Ah, if we get stuck
like this, won't we be letting everyone go ahead of us------ I wonder if
they're still close by------ What do you think?

SHION
I can't believe it----- Allen, why were you able to stay so calm earlier,
despite what had happened-----

Back on the Elsa, the crew and KOS-MOS listen in on the conversation.

ALLEN'S VOICE
I, I'm shocked. It's quite mortifying. To have you say it in such a way-----
Ah, it's shocking. I'm definitely shocked----- For you to have thought of me
like some cold and callous android-----

SHION'S VOICE
Now, nobody is saying such a thing.

ALLEN'S VOICE
You said it. You think that I'm an android.

MATHEWS
(listening, leaning against Hammer's console)
What is this---

KOS-MOS walks over to the console and rudely imposes herself and presses a
button.

MATHEWS
He, Hey!

KOS-MOS
Shion.

A video image of KOS-MOS, Mathews, and Hammer pops up on Shion's display.

SHION
KOS-MOS.
(Image of Shion appears on Elsa's bridge display)
Where are you now?

KOS-MOS
Inside a passing civilian ship. Please live with that condition for a while. I
expect a Federation rescue ship will come soon.

SHION
A while----- KOS-MOS, what do you intend to do?

KOS-MOS
Using this ship, I'm heading for Second Miltia. It's my instruction from the
company.

ALLEN
(appearing on the screen)
Heading out----- Wa, wait just a minute. What about us?

KOS-MOS
While regrettable, there was no instruction concerning you. The status quo
takes priority.

ALLEN
Well, what? You'll have us patiently wait here for help?

KOS-MOS
That is how it will turn out.

ALLEN
Wait. There's no guarantee that somehow a Federation rescue ship will come to a
dead space like this remote region. If it doesn't come, won't we starve to
death inside this pod? Hey, I'm declining that idea.

KOS-MOS
Before that happens, the oxygen will run out, and you'll die of suffocation.
That will happen about 46 hours from now.

ALLEN
What!----- Su, suffocation.

KOS-MOS
Yes. However, the probability of a rescue ship coming within 15 hours is 96%,
so you will surely be rescued before that happens. Yet, I cannot confirm that.

ALLEN
S, so-----

SHION
No. There's no way you can be allowed to act on your own. Please admit us to
your ship.

KOS-MOS
There is no time. I am cutting our transmission. Take care, Shion and Allen.

SHION
Please wait, KOS-MOS.
(her hand on switch)
If you don't admit us, I'll open the pod's hatch right now. Okay?

ALLEN
Wha, what are you doing, chief? Don't act foolishly.

SHION
Allen, shut up. Okay, KOS-MOS. You know what will happen if I make this lever
turn, don't you? Aren't you getting anxious? Shouldn't you be making sure
we're kept alive?...

KOS-MOS stares at Shion with a blank look, as if she's processing the data.

KOS-MOS
You will not be keeping company with me. Please do it.
(KOS-MOS walks away)

SHION
KOS-MOS, you don't believe me at all, do you? I'm serious.

Shion activates the lever, and the alarm goes off aboard the escape pod.

ALLEN
You're really turning it----

A voice is heard behind KOS-MOS, making her look back.

VOICE
How about giving her some help.

A youngman with silvery hair leisurely steps onto the bridge, yawning and
stretching.

YOUNG MAN
She seems serious.

MATHEWS
Yo, Chaos. You're awake.

CHAOS
Who can sleep with all this noise going on.

In her mind, KOS-MOS process information on Chaos. Chaos walks briskly over to
KOS-MOS, after speaking with Mathews. He puts his right hand on her shoulder.

CHAOS
Well, okay? She doesn't seem to have any objections, so then we just need the
captain's approval----- How about it, captain? I too am asking you as a favor.

MATHEWS
(smoking a cigarette)
Ah. If you say it's okay, I don't care.

Chaos waves to Tonny.

CHAOS
Tonny.

Elsa heads out toward the escape pod, opens its forward bay door, and picks it
up. Then, we see Shion on the bridge aboard the ship.

SHION
(bowing down)
Excuse us.

Shion, Allen, and Andrew step aboard the bridge and slowly walk toward Mathews.

SHION
H, hi----

MATHEWS
(offering his hand)
I'm captain Mathews.

SHION
(shaking Mathews' hand)
I'm Shion Uzuki, from Vector Industry's first development office.
(looking toward Allen)
This is Allen Ridgely from my office. I'm sorry. On account of our firm's
inflexible KOS-MOS, we have troubled you. Oh, Allen also has something to say.

ALLEN
Ah, yes. Yes, you have really helped. Thanks to my inflexible superior, I was
close to dangerously perish among the space rubbish-----
(Shion inflicts some pain on Allen)
----- Ouch!

We see Shion's right foot stepping on Allen left foot.

MATHEWS
If you want to say thanks, you should say it to Chaos here. We were planning on
deserting you guys.

SHION
Is that so----
(Shion walks over to Chaos, picks up his left hand, and holds it between hers)
Thank you, Chaos.

CHAOS
It's all right. If I was in trouble, you'd do the same for me.

MATHEWS
Well, thanks to Chaos here, we have been very much saved before. So, I cannot
refuse his request.

SHION
Is that so? That is so---
(turning to KOS-MOS)
Just a second, KOS-MOS. What the hell are you doing? After deserting us,
you're going to Second Miltia alone----- Isn't your loaded OS already activated?

KOS-MOS
-----That may be so.

SHION
Well, incidentally, what is the company's instruction?

KOS-MOS
(turning toward Mathews)
Captain Mathews, I want to borrow a fitting room in a hanger.

SHION
Wait, KOS-MOS.

MATHEWS
Ah, I don't care. Whatever you do is fine with me, KOS-MOS.

KOS-MOS
With the experimental condenser, my energy is getting used up because of all the
battles. To reload, we will install a bypass from the generator.

SHION
(mad)
Look, please answer to people's questions, KOS-MOS.

MATHEWS
Okay if I demand a fee?

KOS-MOS
Yes.

SHION
(interrupting)
KOS-

KOS-MOS
(cutting Shion off)
Shion.

SHION
(surprised)
Ye, yes.

KOS-MOS
There seems to be a irregularity in my sensor. Please adjust it during the time
before we arrive at our destination.

SHION
Wha, why I-----

KOS-MOS
This is your job, isn't it? I'm entrusting it to you, Shion.

KOS-MOS walks off and heads for the door. Shion drops her head and gives out a
sigh. She then turns to Mathews.

SHION
I'm really sorry. I'm sorry to trouble you; that kid is terribly inflexible.

CHAOS
No. I'm enjoying myself. With more crews, this ship is bound to become very
lively.

TONNY
(walking by)
Sure. Elsa has been in a 10,000-year-long woman drought.
(putting his arm around Shion)
How about it? After we arrive at our destination, let's have some wine in a
hotel suite...

ALLEN
(jealous)
Ah, ah. Ah, ah---

SHION
(not knowing how to respond)
W, well----- Sure-----

MATHEWS
Behave yourself now, Tonny. But, as for woman (aboard this ship)... Aside from
Miss Uzuki, THAT (referring to KOS-MOS) is an "inhuman", fighting machine.

CHAOS
I wonder... To me, she doesn't seem that much different from some "humans".

ANDREW
(walking down a ramp)
Captain, was this ship heading for Seniru?

MATHEWS
We're en route to Koram---. We're about 3 days away from Ataria. We can drop
you off if we stop there.

ANDREW
Is that so? And the fee-----

MATHEWS
With the way things have gone down, today is free. If you want though, I
haven't had a decent experience today. How about a bribe?

ANDREW
I'd call that a fee.

MATHEWS
What? It's like the Navy I saw.
(turning to look at a spot in space)
It's a goodwill gesture for my old haunt-----

A Gnosis leaps down on the ship to everyone's surprise.

HAMMER
(backing off)
G, G, G, Gno, Gno-----

SHION
Gnosis!

ALLEN
Just as I thought. They were still around.

Gnosis passes right through the window.

ANDREW
It, it's coming through. You, you bastard!
(he fires his pistol)

The shots just go right through it and bounce around the bridge. It grabs
Andrew's head and begins to drain his life from him.

MATHEWS
Chaos!

CHAOS
Understood.

Chaos walks right up to the Gnosis.

SHION
Chaos!

CHAOS
(turning to look at Shion)
It's okay.

Just as the Gnosis prepares to grab onto him, Chaos thrusts his right hand
forward and freezes the monster. Shion looks on in amazement. Chaos just
lightly touches the Gnosis' arm, and a sparkling wave spreads right through it
and dissolves it. Andrew falls to the ground, gasping for air.

SHION
The Gnosis...

ALLEN
Wha, what did you do just now?

MATHEWS
Well, that is one of the reasons why we're safe.

SHION
The reason. How did you do that? What people can dissolve the Gnosis?

CHAOS
(walking toward Shion)
If there are people who are good at drawing pictures, then there are people good
at making things disappear. Look, Hammer's talent as a navigator is first-class,
and his knowledge about the net is abundant. Tonny's piloting skill is the best
in the universe; there's no one comparable to him. He's self-styled, though.
(turning toward the captain)
As for the captain--- The captain has more debt than anybody.

MATHEWS
Ah, ah, yes---
(realizing he's been insulted)
----- Hey, what's the deal?

CHAOS
There's something special about everyone. I expect there to be "something" that
one can define oneself. Shion, I wonder if you can be defined by something.

SHION
(surprised)
Well, for me----- I...

CHAOS
That's how it's like in my case. It's probably just that.

TONNY
Yes, it's just that.

SHION
Ah, is that so? I guess so. If you put it that way, I can vaguely understand
it.

HAMMER
(nodding)
That's the case.

ALLEN
Is that so----- Huh?
(waking up from Chaos' lame reason)
But, chief, can you really agree with that? It's the Gnosis. Gnosis!

CHAOS
(speaking to Mathews)
Well, captain. We must not head for our destination before they can be tossed
back into space. It would seem very "dry" of us to leave her here.

MATHEWS
Ah, after this matter has been settled and the debt returned, it's my splendid
plan to fly to Keltia and try to see the voluptuously charming and energetic
live performance of the "Spice Sisters"-----

TONNY
No, our repayment to master Gaignun is utterly unreasonable. It's just too much.
But, wait. Captain, you like the Spice Sisters too?

HAMMER
Captain, even if you can't especially go to Keltia, isn't it okay to just
receive on UMN and watch it later?

MATHEWS
(waving around his picture of Spice Sisters)
You, you idiot! The only thing that is sent in the visual field is merely the
information. You have to compare it to the actual persons that are literally
scorching directly into your eyes. (What you're saying) is just hot air. The
point is that it's a matter of reality.

TONNY
They're with you either way. It's all inside your brain. You can't tell.

MATHEWS
(waving Tonny off)
Be quiet--- Let's get this ship going right now.

TONNY
(walking back to his pilot's seat)
Yes, sir. Understood. Understood.

CHAOS
Well then, I'll show Shion and the others around the ship.

SHION
I hope you'll look after us.

MATHEWS
Oh, you do that, Chaos. Today has been an REALLY unlucky day.

Elsa flies off.

<CHANGE OF LOCATION>

At the presidential office at Vector Industry's headquarter.

A VOICE
Mr. Wilhelm, I have a report from KOS-MOS. It seems that Shion Uzuki and Allen
Ridgely are traveling with KOS-MOS.

WILHELM
Is that so.

MAN IN RED CLOAK
It's fortunate if you think how that ship with unknown registry was already
closing in on the battlefield.

WILHELM
For argument's sake, if they became a threat to her, KOS-MOS will protect her.
That's so.

MAN
Yes, we've made that a priority over all her directives.

WILHELM
In any case. It was wise of us to let them salvage KOS-MOS. There is no need
for her to serve more than this, against an army or him. The data on the Maiden
of Rhine was completely loaded. This entire matter will progress in a way the
system's compass points to. Afterwards----- complete the necessary factor, and
wait for another one to wake up-----

<SAVE POINT>

A planet is first surrounded by light, and then slowly, beams of light burn
right thru the planet's surface. Ultimately, it's completely consumed by the
light. Finally, the planet shrinks, explodes, and disintegrates. We see a
blonde woman.

MAN'S VOICE
Merely 1,500,000,000.
(the man walks up to the blonde)
What are these numbers?

WOMAN
Innocent people. They should be things that we, quite naturally, respect.

MAN
What respect? You're sounding like a philanthropist. The experiment was
certainly a failure, but I'll clap my hands for the Emulator's retrieval. At a
moment of crisis, I wouldn't care to use the original. The point is that we had
better repeat (these experiments) until we get the results. You look as if your
conscience cannot bear to be patient. If so, won't it be better if you yourself
made an official announcement and wait to be convicted?

WOMAN
It's just like you.

MAN
Don't make me laugh at a fellow low-class person. We are both standing at a
place that pronounces our equal criminal conviction. Or----- Pellegri, are you
saying that in these 14 years you forgot our goal?

Pellegri looks down

SOLDIER
Commander Margulis.

MARGULIS
What is it?

SOLDIER
I have a report from major Vanderkaum, a survivor from the advance troop. The
squad was annihilated, and they failed to secure the Zohar Emulator.

MARGULIS
Where is Zohar now?

SOLDIER
Unknown, but it's possible that the Gnosis snatched it.

MARGULIS
Is that so? Notify special service fleet #474. We may have to go to plan 31.
Have the fleet wait at the appropriate spatial grid until further order.

SOLDIER
Yes, sir.

<CHANGE OF SCENE>

Place: an orbiting station
-----Federation Home Planet 5th Jerusalem, Orbiting Tower-----
We see a room with 7 seats arranged in a circle. With the chairman of the sub-
committee at the center seat (Man #1), here is the description of the members
from left to right:

Man #2 (man with green hair)
Man #4 (smoking man)
Man #5 (old man)
Man #1 (chairman)
Woman #1 (woman w/ black hair)
Man #3 (man with plate)
Woman #2 (woman w/ brown hair)

MAN #1
By the way, what sort of character is this man?

MAN #2
He was a member of a special unit belonging to the old Federation police force.
He specialized in counter-terrorism. However, this was more than 100 years ago,
and now, as a dedicated cyborg, he performs various jobs.

MAN #1
Cyborgs are old style.

WOMAN #1
He is a relic of a time when we resurrected dead people and re-used them. Back
then, we didn't have the disposable Realiens that we have now.

MAN #3
(holding a green plate)
Isn't that quite a enormous personal history?-----

MAN #2
Rumor says he's a man who always hopes for jobs with low probabilities of
success.

MAN #4
Is he an eccentric? Or, is he a battle maniac?

MAN #2
Psychiatrically speaking, he is normal, and it seems that he doesn't like
killing people.

MAN #5
Hum. Along with scientific developments, many medical institutions are like
drug store shelves for several centuries now. The only ones that exert any
influence now are psychiatrists. I can't trust them to just quibble for the
sake of this survivor.

MAN #5
His mission accomplishment rate is extremely high. I can give my nod to his
recommendation.

A message arrives on a video panel.

MESSAGE
I've brought him.

MAN #1
Enter.

A door opens in the middle of the floor. The elevator brings a man and the
visual image of the secretary.

MAN #1
That's all.

IMAGE OF SECRETARY
Yes. Excuse me.

MAN #3
You're Ziggurat 8. After dying on T. C. 4667, on your dying wish, you dedicated
your body to Ziggurat Industry.

ZIGGURAT 8
That's correct.

MAN #1
Were you listening to this talk?

ZIGGURAT 8
No.

MAN #4
Recently, we received information that says there are signs of a resurrection of
a armed organization. It's the organization that caused that incident from 14
years ago.

ZIGGURAT 8
The U-TIC organization.

MAN #5
Yes. From the information we personally gathered, we have determined where the
U-TIC organization is hiding.

All the seats turn to face the large monitor behind Ziggurat 8. On the screen,
a large object is shown.

MAN #3
It seems to function as a church for an ancient religion from the old century.
After it was abandoned, it was unoccupied for several centuries until now.

ZIGGURAT 8
Then you're asking me to infiltrate there and collect information-----

MAN #3
It's better to leave that sort of work to the intelligence department.

MAN #1
The truth is----- To say it simply----- We want you to rescue someone and
swiftly deliver her to a suitable place. Um, if I say it accurately, it's a
THING, not a person-----

ZIGGURAT 8
Please be concise.

Woman with black hair snickers. Man #1 urges her on. She pushes a few buttons,
and the screen displays who he's suppose to rescue.

ZIGGURAT
A child----- Is she a civilian?

MAN #3
She's a Realien. A 100-Type Realien. Do you know it?

ZIGGURAT 8
100-Type----- I have heard a rumor that they're observational Realiens that
were especially manufactured for the Gnosis. However, I never thought that they
had a child's disguise.

MAN #3
Is this your first time seeing the real thing?

ZIGGURAT 8
Yes. However, I suppose they're already in the mass production phase at Vector.

MAN #3
This is the prototype.

MAN #5
She is the original model that became the mold for all the 100-Type's.

ZIGGURAT 8
In short, that' why the protection of this girl takes priority over the entire
matter.

MAN #5
So, you understand and will help.

MAN #1
Yes, can you take this mission?

ZIGGURAT 8
There are no human rights for dedicated cyborgs. I don't have the right to
refuse. As for the necessary weapons and resources, after I have analyzed the
circumstances-----
(pauses for a second)
I will tell you my fee, but would it be all right for me to make one request?

MAN #5
Tell us.

ZIGGURAT 8
After my return, I want to remove the fragments of memory from my past life, the
ones that remain in my living brain.

MAN #5
It doesn't matter to me, but if you're old-styled, a complete purge may be
difficult.

ZIGGURAT 8
Replacing it (the brain) with an artificial part will do.

MAN #1
It's a strange demand. Today, we have Realiens insisting on human rights and
people becoming machines. I've decided. Let's make the arrangements.

ZIGGURAT 8
Thank you.

MAN #1, who appears to be the sub-committee's chairman, points to the woman to
his left.

WOMAN #1
Later, for more details, refer them to her
(pointing to the woman #2, one sitting in the last seat on Ziggy's right)
Professor Yuri Mizrahi.

Ziggy nods for Professor Yuri Mizrahi. The elevator descends, and the door
closes behind it.

YURI MIZRAHI
Indeed----- He is not one to die at his post. The cause of his death seems to
be suicide. One shot to his head with his favorite handgun.

MAN #5
Suicide? Is it good to entrust the 100-Type to such a man? What would we do if
his suicidal tendency surfaced?

YURI MIZRAHI
Don't worry. He is prohibited from self-destructive behavior and mission
abandonment. A safety is installed.

Yuri Mizrahi turns her seat around and gets up. She walks to a window and
places her right hand on the rail.

YURI MIZRAHI
He was revived against his will. He will completely become a machine if his
remaining biological brain is replaced by an artificial part. Then, for the
first time, he will be legally "dead".

<SCENE CHANGE>
We're back to U-TIC's headquarter. We see Margulis entering a prison cell.
Inside, there's a little girl with red hair and pony tails.

MARGULIS
How are you doing, 100-Type Realien?
(turning to his left and looks at some food on a tray, which is still untouched)
Are you unsatisfied with the food here? Realiens need supplies too. Can you be
so well-mannered that you can't reply, Federation's 100-Type Realien?

GIRL
I hate that name-----

MARGULIS
Indeed. My apologies. What do you want to be called, 100-Type Realien girl?

GIRL
I don't want to be called by someone I don't know well. Where do you plan on
taking me?

MARGULIS
(leaning against the table and crossing his arms)
It's not a place you know.

GIRL
What's going to happen to me?

MARGULIS
You'll become helpful to us. The life of a machine is designed to serve. As
your fate after that, it may be at a place that only God knows. Though, a
conversation about the existence of God with you Realiens-----

GIRL
I cannot find anything other than Gnosis. So, I'm no help to you.

MARGULIS
May be so.
(pointing to his head)
However, you're different up "here". We have some use for your "man up here".
(Girl stands to attention)
What is it? While we can put you to use, we'll keep you alive. Soon, "the
fellow" will arrive.

He turns and walks out of the cell. The girl sits down and contemplates.

GIRL
Mama----- I want to return to the research lab-----

<CHANGE SCENE>

A spaceship approaches the U-TIC headquarter and enters undetected.
It's 46 hours later. Two soldiers walks out of the ship after docking. Just as
the ship is about to take off again, the silhouette of Ziggy jumps out from the
ship and lands.

ZIGGURAT 8
Now...... This time, the mission is the rescue of a 100-Type Realien. The
question is where she is kept...... Until I discover my target, I don't want to
cause any commotion. It's probably better to avoid careless battles.

+------------------------------------+
| 3.2: ELSA |
+------------------------------------+
From the time Shion leaves the Woglinde til the time she leaves the Elsa.

+------------------------------------+
| 3.3: HUGE GNOSIS |
+------------------------------------+
From the time Shion shows up in the huge Gnosis til the Durandal appears.

____3.3.1: Enter the Gnosis___
Starting from when you depart the Dock Colony, as translated by Henry.

Elsa disengages from a terminal at Dock Colony and prepares to resume her
journey to Second Miltia.

We see Andrew toss and turn in the lower bunk of a double-bunked bed. In his
nightmare, he witnesses a vision, a flash of the moment when he was picked up by
the Gnosis. Andrew then wakes up in cold sweat.

Trying to find some relief, Andrew gets a cup of coffee (or its equivalent) from
a vending machine. Suddenly, his right hand begins to shake. Then, as it goes
limp, Andrew experiences some shock or convulsion. He falls to the ground,
still short of breath and gasping for air. Then, his hand seems to disappear
right before his eyes. In pain, his drug delivery/injection device drops to the
ground and rolls down a couple of stairs. His vision blurs as he tries to find
some comfort.

A flash of an image of Zohar.

Afterwards, we find Shion taking a nap with her U.M.N. in her hands. She lays
it on the sofa, shutting off the device.

A VOICE
-----on----- -----Shion----- -----Shion----- Shion.

Shion opens her eyes, and to her surprise, there is a little girl in a white
dress. It's the same one she saw earlier. The fog clears.

GIRL IN WHITE DRESS
It just won't do-----anymore-----

SHION
(taking a couple of steps toward the girl)
Who are you? It won't do----- What in the world won't do?

GIRL IN WHITE DRESS
Which is selected depends on him-----, but it may be that, you, you can
understand the feeling of his death.
(Suddenly, there is a bright light.)
That is tranquility for him----------

Shion awakes and stands up just when the ship comes under attack. She rushes
out the door. We see Elsa flying through hyperspace, but something is wrong.
Shion rushes onto the bridge.

SHION
What, what's happening?

KOS-MOS
A powerful force is acting against the ship from outside the hyperspace.

MOMO
What's the matter?

KOS-MOS
Someone---- is trying to contact us. As things stand, we will be returning to
normal space.

MOMO
This, this sensation-----

MOMO looks at her hands as they emit a strange glow. Shion also notices the
same thing with her hands.

SHION
What?-----

Elsa falls out of hyperspace. Everyone stares out of Elsa's front window.

SHION
-----Gnosis!

The entire space around them is full of Gnosis.

MATHEWS
What's happening? Hey, do we have transition co-ordinates?

HAMMER
N, No----- That-----

TONNY
That's an amazing number (of Gnosis)-----

SHION
KOS-MOS, deploy super-wide-area Hilbert Effect!

KOS-MOS's goggle clamps down, and she activates her super-wide-field Hilbert
Effect.

MOMO
In, Incredible----- Even with an amplifier system, a field with 100 kilometer
radius is my interference limit-----

TONNY
Captain, the helm is ineffective.

CHAOS
We're being pulled by an unusual gravitational field.

MATHEWS
What?

Elsa drifts closer and closer to one of the larger Gnosis.

---

Shion regains consciousness.

SHION
Where----- Where am I-----?

She turns to face the others (MOMO, Ziggy, Chaos, and KOS-MOS) Chaos walks
toward her.

SHION
Everyone-----

CHAOS
It's good to see you're okay.

SHION
Chaos, you're here too.

CHAOS
Well, if I remember correctly, we were all surrounded by this light, and then--
---

MOMO
Please wait----- This feeling-----
(She looks around)
I'm sure of it. This is the inside of a Gnosis.

SHION
The inside of a Gnosis----- Huh?

KOS-MOS
To be precise, this is a spot close to the approximate center of a giant Gnosis.
The size of this Gnosis is about 16,000 kilometers across. According to our
observations to date, we have not discovered a Gnosis larger than this except
for a type known as "the Sanctuary Ship".

SHION
Impossible! Were we swallowed up?

CHAOS
Our circumstance may be close that-----

MOMO
I can't sense active response from the Gnosis on the outside. It's as if they
are asleep----- Yes. How about Elsa? Where are the captain and the others?

ZIGGY
I want to think that they're like us, somewhere inside this Gnosis, but-----

KOS-MOS steps forward.

SHION
What is it, KOS-MOS?

KOS-MOS
There is a response on my sensor-----

SHION
A response? Surely, it's the Elsa?

KOS-MOS
Yes. Other than that (Elsa), there is one more object nearby. While the signal
is weak, I have acquired response that closely resembled the waveform of Zohar,
the object stolen from Woglinde.

SHION
Zohar's waveform? That golden object kept in the housing warehouse? That is
here?

ZIGGY
What's the distance to Elsa?

KOS-MOS
The direct distance from here is about 10 kilometers.

ZIGGY
That is close-----

SHION
Outside is space----- I'm worried about Allen and others-----

CHAOS
(nods)
Let's get going.

---

We see Andrew walking alone and feeling his way around.

ANDREW
(scared)
How foolish----- Am I dreaming? It can't be----- At that time, Ariadne-----
(We see an image of Zohar.)
was an injury that disappeared with the Zohar overload accident.

We see a planet implode. Then, Andrew stands in the middle of a street bustling
with people. He takes a good look around.

ANDREW
Impossible-----

A girl with red shirt and white skirt walks in front of him. Andrew walks
briskly toward her. Suddenly, everyone disappears, leaving a strange door
standing upright and casting its long shadow. Andrew walks up to the door,
opens it, and looks inside to see shooting.

We see the image of a boy, then a man, standing among the ruins.

---

Aboard the Kookai Foundation's Durandal, an alarm sounds on the bridge.

BRIDGE WORKER
Official warning announcement in Area D. Abnormal waves are detected from the
isolation hanger.

Jr. arrives on the bridge via an elevator.

JR.
Area D? Is it Zohar?-----

BRIDGE WORKER
Area D, increase output of the attract inhibitor of every hanger. There's UMN
traffic on EPR radar. I will make resonance waves emanate through hyperspace.

JR.
Where is it?

Junior walks up to Shelly, who is working hard at her console.

SHELLY
I'm detecting the source of the response.

JR.
It's resonating with Zohar. Prepare to make the gate jump.
(turning right)
Mary, report to the Foundation. We'll follow Zohar.

MARY
Understood.

____3.3.2: At the Mall____
Starting from when you arrive at the mall, as translated by Henry.

ZIGGY
"the Sanctuary Ship"?----- It really feels as if we're inside a ship. However,
no matter how I look at it, it doesn't seem like a Federation ship-----

MOMO
It must be an alien spaceship.

SHION
I wonder how (this is possible)-----
(Shion, Ziggy, and Chaos pause in their tracks. Shion points to something.)
Look there.

They see a sign with "Ariadne Central Shopping Mall" written on it.

MOMO
This is our language.

SHION
But, it's strange. The sign, rather than stabbing into the wall, is actually
part of the length of the wall.

MOMO
So, is this plate a part of Gnosis? Impossible-----

CHAOS
Take a good look around.
(We see another plate with a picture of fish and the words "fish?" written on
it.)
It's not just this plate. There are many others.

SHION
Is this really the inside of a Gnosis?-----

There's an image flash: Black-and-white image of the girl that Shion saw
earlier.

SHION
(shocked by the image)
Huh?

ZIGGY
Did you discover something?

SHION
Eh, Um, Ummm. It's nothing-----
(Thinking to herself: "That kid again----- What in the world is this place----
-")

---

We see Andrew walking again.
Then, there's another change in scene. We see a central podium surrounded by
seats in a huge hall. As you'll find out, it's a courtroom.

FEMALE VOICE #1
----- The motive of the accused is yet unknown. Was he distracted by the
confusion of war? Or was he "forced to be distracted"? To put things in
perspective,
(We see a blonde)
this in fact shows a case where one can say that the accused himself also is a
victim of the Life Recyle Law.
(we see Andrew standing in the central podium)
Would it be good to turn this poor soul into the first victim of our capital
punishment system, one that has been in effect for several thousand years?
Certainly, the accused must atone for the crime he committed. However,
shouldn't our divergent types of atonement policies have been born out of human
consciousness and scientific development? How about making a generous or wise
judgement?

MALE VOICE
----- Our courtroom decides to sentence the accused, Andrew Cherenkoff, to
undergo the 7th type personality correction treatment.

FEMALE VOICE #2
With this treatment, the person that you know as yourself will no longer exist.
However, that will also be the birth of your new world. Let's bless this (new
start).

The Hebrew letter "aleph" appears on Andrew's forehead.

---

We see the blonde woman from the courtroom (female voice #1) standing near a
room's entrance. Andrew walks up to her, holding up a document.

ANDREW
(angry)
What's the meaning of this?
(The words "Notice of Cloning Procedure Completion" are written on the document.
On the right side of the screen, we see in Japanese text "Notice of Self-Cloning
Completion")
Why is it hopeless for us to have a kid?

BLONDE
(laughing)
Stop it. Are you saying that you want something returned? Well, I never!
They're just genes that caused that abnormality. Don't say such things! Nano-
technology isn't all-powerful. It can't compensate for genomic diversity.

ANDREW
But, you said to me there was a reason?

BLONDE
How disgraceful. You were given life because of your nucleic acids. It was
natural for you to be the way you were at that time. It's because of this
"thing" (gene, nucleic acids) that creates you.

ANDREW
Then, why're you with me-----

BLONDE
For the sake of this. For the sake of getting your permission. For what do you
think I have worked for all this while? "Volunteer. VO-LUN-TEER." I've had
enough of this joke of your thinking that there's romance between us.
(She picks up a headphone)
I've had enough of that now.
(tossing it at his head. The headphone bounces off and lands on the ground)
(walking right past the headphone)
Don't fail to take your control medicine regularly, okay? I'm the one that gets
asked about supervisory responsibility (over you)-----

She stands in the bedroom. He walks toward her, stepping on the headphone. One
moment, she turns to face him; the next, she's dead on the ground.

We see an image of Andrew getting locked up in a cell. The door slams.

MALE VOICE
In accordance to Federation laws, you will undergo the 8th personality
correction treatment. Through this, the accused number 12584 will be deprived
of individual rights. From now on, the accused will be branded as a living
organism under the jurisdiction of the Federation. This measure means that you
(the accused) will have qualifications equivalent to those of Realiens as
described in our present law.

Andrew receives the aleph on his forehead.

---

Central Tower Ariadne. We see Andrew walking among busy pedestrians. Then, he
sees a girl with short blonde hair. Suddenly, she is seen as the blonde woman
that Andrew killed. He realizes it was all in his imagination.

Andrew stops her. She looks up at his face.

GIRL
Trash-----

Andrew screams. We see him picking her off the ground, perhaps killing her.
Then, he again winds up in a jail cell.

MALE VOICE #1
However,----- I have not seen a stable network up to now.

MALE VOICE #2
Did he not receive the 8th correction therapy?

MALE VOICE #3
Anyway, his life is precious to us. First of all, as a sample for the 9th
correction-----

Oddly, the door opens. Outside the facility, the grounds are littered with dead
bodies. A spaceship appears and touches down. We see Andrew sitting silently
among the bodies.

MALE VOICE
I heard that a single man completely slaughtered all the personnel here and
three squads of the Federation Police's special unit, so I was looking forward
to see what sort of man he is.----- You look as if you're some abandoned puppy.
Did you really do all this?

Andrew turns to face the man. It's Margulis, putting on a smile. Andrew makes
a leap at him, but Margulis amazingly jumps aside.

MARGULIS
Is it due to mutations caused by Life Recyling, as expected?----- Well then,
that's why the Federation Police suffered under those hands. That is worthy of
praise. However,-----

Andrew makes another attack, and this time Margulis takes a jab at Andrew's
throat. Andrew lays on the ground, rolls over, and gasps for air.

MARGULIS
So, in reality, that's what you're like------

SOLDIER
(walking up to Margulis)
Commander Margulis, the number 308 field troops of Wilgarta-----

MARGULIS
Understood. We'll take him with us.

SOLDIER
You're surely not serious?

MARGULIS
Ah, he will become something (useful for us).

SOLDIER
Is that so-----

MARGULIS
(kneeing before Andrew)
You just wanted to return your existence back among the people.
(offering his hand)
Isn't that right?

Andrew looks up at Margulis as if he's seeing an angel.

MARGULIS
Show me the proof that you exist--- Show me.

Andrew continues to walk around the giant Gnosis...

Starting from when you find Allen aboard the Elsa after resting at the Our
Treasures Inn, as translated by jetfuel. About 25 minutes.

(Shion "Yes, it was refreshing! I'm all right now.")
(ALLEN "Well, not to be too quick, but shall we start KOS-MOS's preparation?")

(Asteroid Pleroma)

On Margulis's screen is

DUDE WHO LOOKS LIKE FRED FROM THE B-52's EXCEPT WITH PINK HAIR AND SHADES LIKE
MORPHEUS FROM THE MATRIX
Output is at 5.806LPP.
Not even 3% of the required amount.

MARGULIS
Is that to say that hope of opening the door to Lost Jerusalem is lost?

FRED
The search for a way to open it is doubtful.
No matter how many times we say that the emulator is just a supplementary
engine...
You're the one who's been ignoring it.
Now we've lost our precious inheritance.
We'll gather up the remains but it won't be much.
Not even Mizrahi could do it without the Original.

MARGULIS
Oh, so now you respect that madman?

FRED
It was just an objective observation.
Nobody superior to that guy exists in this universe.

MARGULIS
I can't afford to keep the commander waiting any longer.
I'm going to activate plan 401.

FRED
Plan 401, eh?
It seems a tad too forceful...
Mizrahi's 100-Type, who was taking care of Helmar, in addition to having their
research records from the very beginning, is the *only* place where the closed
Miltia sector's cancel codes are stored.
If you're rash, you'll end up losing everything.
The Y documents and Miltia both recognize the importance of that.
That's what 'that guy' is for.
I don't like him.
He's got Mizrahi's eyes.

MARGULIS
Aren't you talking about yourself?

FRED
Hmph!
We'll be waiting for some good news.

(Fred's image disappears.)

MARGULIS
Pellegri.
Get the commander on the line.
I want to report directly to him, including about the strategic meeting.

---

We see a really cool AGWS in space, then Albedo and his Realien.

ALBEDO
I see.
What shall I do?

MARGULIS
The situation has already progressed.
Don't get involved with it.
I don't think the Second Miltia government or the Kookai Foundation will give it
up very easily.
Depending on the situation, we may have to use Nephilim's song.

ALBEDO
Oh yeah?
I thought you hated that.

MARGULIS
I just mean there's a use for your little toy.

ALBEDO
Then, do you want to come with?
You're welcome to.

MARGULIS
I'll pass.
I don't have your bad taste.

ALBEDO
(laughing)
Well said. Impotent jerk!

PELLEGRI
Albedo.
U.R.T.V.
A monster born of Life Recyle.
Life Recycle mutants have had numerous cases of mental instability.
Like that Andrew.
If he can't handle it, and you make the wrong move...

MARGULIS
There's no need to worry about that.
That guy is not restrained by time.
His only interest is that Realien.

PELLEGRI
Are we really going to use Nephilim's song?

MARGULIS
Pellegri.
Have you ever heard it?
That song... Causes complete chaos.

---

We see the Kookai Foundation, then Shion and Allen standing next to KOS-MOS'
coffin.

SHION
Miltia...
I didn't expect to hear about it again like this.

ALLEN
Chief.
What's wrong?

SHION
Hm? Er, Ah...
No, it's nothing.
(Hits a few buttons on a panel)
How's this, KOS-MOS?

KOS-MOS
Yes.
No complications.
Please continue.

ALLEN
"It's nothing", again...?

JR.

Yes.

JR.
I dunno if Realiens are superstitious or sentimental or anything, but...
Take this. As a good luck charm.

M.O.M.O.
It's lovely! What is it?

JR.
A bullet from an ancient gun.
And look. It's got a fun saying inscribed on it:
"Go ahead make my day", it says.

M.O.M.O.
Thank you! I'll treasure it!

JR.
Oh, yeah! Wait a second.
(Jr. pulls out a chain and magically(?) attaches the bullet to it)
This should do.
Try it on.

M.O.M.O.
Amazing! That you can do something this wonderful...

JR.
But even just that tires me out... (?)

---

Lots of ships in space.

SHELLEY
Is this a greeting?
Is there an escort this time?

MARY
They're blocking our route.
(Ships open fire)
This is not a greeting!!

(Lights go out around the Durandal, and then come back on)

VOICE OVER PA
(frantic technobabble about the ship getting hit)

(Long and confusing scene in which council members argue and use about 10 kanji
per second. It seems that the Kookai Foundation is being framed for attacking
the Marine division in Miltia space, but don't take my word for it. I'm working

Starting from when M.O.M.O. goes missing, as translated by jetfuel. About 25
minutes.

Shion, KOS-MOS, Ziggy, chaos, and Jr. encounter Allen in a hallway.

ZIGGY
Have you seen M.O.M.O.?

ALLEN
No. She still hasn't come back?
I thought she was definitely with...

ZIGGY
She stayed behind by herself to tend to the wounded residents.
When we went to meet her, she was gone.
We thought she came back here, but...

JR.
Taking care of 'em...
All right, let's scan our 100-Types.
They're the same model, so they should be able to give us a clue.

ZIGGY
Please do.
Remember that the Gnosis could still invade the colony again at any time.

M.O.M.O. is lying on the floor somewhere dark, and she gets up.

M.O.M.O.
Where am I?
It's very cold.
What in the world...?

We see in M.O.M.O.'s memory when she runs after what she thinks is her father.

M.O.M.O.
Dad!!

Albedo shows up, and we are returned to the present.

M.O.M.O.
No good.
I can't remember.
I wonder what this is...
This smell...
It's is making me very scared...
It's faint, but... Where's it coming from...?

M.O.M.O. finds the out-of-commission 100-Type Realien.

UNDERLING 2
Same as before.
The Gnosis are concentrating on the Kookai Foundation.
They're grouping at a radius of 1600Km.

PICARD
Of course.
Helmar...
So it was true that (something about Miltia's inheritance)?
All personnel, reset targeting for Kookai Foundation!

The ships all turn to target the Foundation.

MOMO

MOMO's sister.
That's right, isn't it.
This place is... Dad's...
This is the first chance I've had to meet you,
and we can't exchange any words,
but I've heard so much about you, and about Dad.
(the 100-Type stirs)
Are you still alive!?
Hey, are you all right?
Who did this to you??

The 100-Type puts her hand to MOMO's face and shows her a memory:
Mizrahi approaches the tank in which MOMO is floating, Emeralda-style.

MIZRAHI
Soon.
Soon you will be born into this world.
And when you do, you should do many good deeds...
If you do...
If you do, you...
You can become human!
You can become my Sakura!

MOMO
Dad...

The 100-Type shows MOMO another memory:
Albedo cracks his knuckles, hits the 100-Type hard, and laughs.

MOMO
Just now...
Was that your memory?
Thank you.
For showing MOMO what Dad was like.
(He's) here, isn't he...
(The guy) from just now...

MOMO walks off, and the 100-Type twitches a bit.

____BOSS____
As described by jetfuel.

The robot boss that shows up in the Elsa's catapult bay is pretty mean. Its
attacks are based on which icon is in the Event Slot. At the beginning of the
battle, it will select a specific icon. For the rest of the battle, whenever
that icon shows up during its turn, it will do a strong attack that hits all of
your characters. The key to this battle is building up your characters' Boost
Gauges so that you can Boost right before the Boss's turn if the chosen Event
Slot icon is next. Even if you can manage to do this, it's still a tough battle.

____BOSS: ALBEDO____
As described by jetfuel.

A good portion of the game is dedicated to making you hate this guy. If you
don't hate him already from all of his cut scene appearances so far, fighting
him in his big AGWS will do the trick. He's got Aerods, a slowing attack, a beam
saber, and a multi-target beam attack. I recommend putting all three of your
characters in AGWSes with Guard Recovers and the strongest pairs of W-ACT
enabled weapons you can find. I tried Guard Cleaners but they didn't seem to
remove the Slow effect, but it does wear off. Gear Shields (prevent slow) and
anti-beam accessories are nice to have, too. In the battle, have everyone get in
their AGWSes. Then have everyone guard for a turn, thus recovering FHPs and
defending against whatever crazy attacks Albedo throws at you. Next turn, W-ACT.
Keeping up this pattern, Albedo doesn't stand a chance. Every now and then
Albedo will start yelling at one of your characters, calling her a wimp and
stuff. This means that next turn he's going to nail her with Aerods, so look out.
Also, partway into the battle he'll start doing his very high damage, multi
target beam attack. If you can live through that, you'll be all right.

Please note that you can quit the game in the middle if you press start and
select the last option. Also pressing select in the middle of the game brings up
help.

Please take a minute a flop thru the tutorial quickly here are some things that
are good to understand.

There are 3 types of cards, Battle cards which are red. Event cards which are
yellow. Situation cards which are blue.

The area of the on the card table has 4 major sections. The Battle field which
is where the action takes place. The Standby area which is where you place your
cards before they can go to the battle area, this is to your left. The Situation
area, which is where Situation cards are played, this is to your right. The
final area is the bottom area which shows the cards in your hand, how many cards
are in your deck and finally your discarded cards.

You win the game by making your opponent running out of cards; likewise if you
run out of cards you will lose. Try not to use too many cards; at the same time
don't loose them in battles.

Circle selects, X cancels, while in a phase when you are finished with the phase
hit Square and then circle to confirm. For example if you are finished moving
all your cards simply hit the Square button and then Circle. Triangle will give
you the basic info of the selected card.

You begin the game going thru a routine of phases; you go thru this routine
every turn.

You will start with Draw. Draw will give you cards, as far as I can tell you
receive cards every turn to replace the cards you either moved out of your hand
or that you used. So it is possible to end up with a bunch of cards!

Next is Move. You can move cards from the Standby area to the Battle field, and
you can rotate your cards around the Battle field too.

Event, this allows you to use Event cards. Event cards have different affects
for every card. The curry card heals other cards HP, other cards damage the
opponent's cards on the battle field and yet other cards have different affects.

Set, this is where you take cards from your hand and put them to the Standby
Area. This is when you can enhance your cards on the battle field by using your
Weapon Cards. Also you can only deploy situation cards into the situation area.

Block, you do this on you opponents turn. What you can do during the block phase
is deploy your own event card, that's all. Please note: you can block your
opponents use of an event card as long as you have the 2 event cards that let
you counter.

Battle, now the cards hack it out. If the opponent has cards, your cards will
attack them. If not your cards will attack the opponents deck if they are in
range.

Adjust, this is when you have to many cards in your hand you will have to
discard.

Now some other details.

Each card has a "cost", which is the number of cards that has to be "spent" from
the deck. For an example, let's take a look at the KOS-MOS card level 1. This
card has a card type of "mech", an HP of 6, attack of 3, attack type of
"shooting", field requirement of 1 human + 1 any, and a cost of 5.

She's a very useful unit but with a requirement of 5 cards, rather costly.
However, her special ability is "If Shion is present in your own battlefield,
she can be moved into battle for free" and "She cannot equip any weapons."

Now for the explanation:
Card type signifies what kind of card the card is considered to be on the
battlefield (important because this determines what kind of cards can be played).
There are four different card types and they are: Human (hito), Realien (gou),
Mech (ki), and Gnosis (fu).

HP is just that. Every time a character is attacked by an enemy unit, they lose
HP. When HP hits 0, they "die" and are sent to the discard (Haiki-the discard
pile on the far right) pile.

Attack is just that as well. That's the amount of damage the card does to
opposing enemy units or the enemy deck.

Attacktype is one of 5 different kinds. They are hand-to-hand, shooting, hit-all,
penetrate, and artillery. Hand-to-hand cards can only attack cards that are in
contact with it, so they can only attack enemy cards that are in the front row
like themselves. Shooting lets the card attack from any row against any enemy
cards in front of it, including the base deck. Hit-all attacks hits all enemy
cards on the battle field, but doesn't do damage to the base deck. Hit-All
attacks also go last. Penetrate attacks work just like Shooting, except when the
attack points weren't fully spent on a single enemy card, it passes on to the
next. (for example an AG-05 with 7 AP hits a card with 3HP, the attack will kill
that card and the left over 4AP will hit the next card behind it). Artillery is
a bit different, its attacks only damages the base deck, bypassing any enemy
card that might have normally been blocking the way.

Field requirement is the kind of cards that must be present on the battlefield
before this card can be moved to the standby area. In the case of KOS-MOS, there
must be at least one human card and another unit out there on the
standby/battlefield area. If the requirement is not met, the card cannot be
played and obviously, the stronger the unit higher the requirement.

Cost is the number of cards that are "spent" when the card is played. For an
example, the KOS-MOS card has a cost of 5, which means that you have to move 5
cards from the base deck to the discard (sute fuda) pile (the discard pile on
the left, the pile that can be re-used). With only 40 cards total, that's pretty
expensive.

Most cards have a cost of at least one (except Realiens and really weak human
cards).

If you can't use a particular card, it's either because of the cost (too
expensive - not enough cards left in the deck) or the field requirement is not
met (this probably occurs more often). For an example, make sure you don't have
any event cards or character cards that require a "Gnosis" if you don't have any
Gnosis cards in the deck (I learned that the hard way).

You can only deploy (set) one battle card per turn, weapons and Gnosis included.
The one exception to this is Realiens, you can deploy as many as you can/allowed
(some of them will only allow one to be out at a given time, like the Govt. use
realiens).

| 5.2: AGWS BATTLING |
+------------------------------------+
As briefly covered by jetfuel.

In order to play AGWS battling,, you'll need the ogpX|[g / Battle
Passport. The Passport can be procured by returning to the VR simulation that
was the game's first dungeon and finding the chest located where the boss
originally was. Activate the Battling minigame by using the Passport (in your
key items list) while standing at a blue-plate-enabled save point.

As explained by jetfuel.

In order to visit the Casino, you'll need the JWmpX|[g / Casino Passport.
The Passport can be procured by looking in the chest upstairs in the game room
of the Durandal. The game room has a big sign outside of it that says "CARD
GAME" with an arrow. Activate the Casino minigame by using the Passport (in your
key items list) while standing at a blue-plate-enabled save point.

Choose a Level for how fast you would like to go broke. Up/down selects the
spots where you can bet, and left/right increments your bet. Hit O to spin, then
hit it again to stop each wheel. Once all wheels have stopped you will find out
either that you didn't win, or, if you're lucky, that you won back a tiny
fraction of the amount you've already wasted. Enjoy!

__POKER__
This is where the real coinage is. Select a Level for how fast you would like to
see the coins roll in:
Level 1: 5-coin bets
Level 2: 10-coin bets
Level 3: 30-coin bets
Level 4: 100-coin bets
You will be dealt a hand. Choose which cards you would like to hold, then select
"CHANGE". You can trade in as many cards as you like. If you've got a winning
hand, the multiplier will light up and you will be asked if you'd like to play a
double-up game. If you choose to play, you'll be dealt cards one at a time. You
have to guess whether the next card will be higher or lower than the current one.
Each correct guess doubles your winnings for the hand, up to 4 times. You may
stop at any time and keep that hand's winnings.
