1 - Introduction

Nanatsu Kaze no Shima Monogatari is a Sega Saturn game which was
released by Enix in Japan in 1997. Nanatsu Kaze comes on two disks, the
first of which contains the game. The second disk contains a disk of
bitmap images which can be accessed by your Saturn or on your computer.
Nanatsu Kaze no Shima Mongatari translates as The Story of the Island
of Seven Winds, though it is translated by Enix of Japan as 'The Seven
blasts of Wind in Island Story'. The aim of the game is to uncover
seven different winds on the island in which the game is located.

The game is a side-scrolling 2D Adventure-RPG. A knowledge of Japanese
script is needed. I did not know Japanese when I started playing the
game, but learned as I progressed. A Japanese dictionary and a chart
with Katakana and Hirigana symbols is needed if you do not have a good
knowledge of Japanese. Nanatsu Kaze is a great game. The graphics are
hand drawn and well animated. The story is engaging and the graphics
are imaginative. I recommend this game to all Adventure-RPG fans who
aren't intimidated by the foreign text.

2 - About this guide

This guide contains general information about the game Nanatsu Kaze and
contains a complete walkthrough for the introduction and first three
chapters of the game. Some translation of text is included, though I
cannot guarantee its accuracy. I used a Japanese-English dictionary for
translation. I have not been formally trained in the Japanese language.
Because of my initial lack of knowledge of Japanese script I spent many
weeks solidly playing this game. I progressed through trial and error.
I wrote this guide so that others can progress more quickly in the
game. If you have additional information about Nanatsu Kaze, or have
played this game please email me. This guide is not complete, but with
your help, I hope to update it in the future. If you have any questions
about the game, feel free to ask me.

8 Walkthrough for Nanatsu Kaze

8.1 - Introduction - Wind Rock

Gaapu is within the black egg on the wind rock. Jump continuously to
break open the egg and release Gaapu. There is a black feather next to
Gaapu. Pick it up and enter your inventory. Select the first options on
the three menu screens. Gaapu will hold up the feather and a swarm of
birds will knock Gaapu off wind rock.

Gaapu will fall onto the island of seven winds below. Pick up the seed
and plant it in the grassy area of the centre screen. To plant the seed
access your inventory and select the first option of the first scree,
the second option of the next screen and the first option of the next
screen. Gaapu's tree house will grow. Enter the house.

Gaapu's house contains a bureau, an arm chair, and a book. The bureau
stores cards of collected bugs. The arm chair is used for saving and
reloading your game. The book contains descriptions of all the
characters, bugs, rocks and objects on the island of seven winds, and
also records your adventures on the island.

Face the door and talk to the face above the door. It will ask you its
name. Look in the book, the face's name can be found on the page with
its picture. Talk to the face again and select Tokabiora in Katakana
symbols. Now the face will ask you to enter your name. Select the
Katakana symbols for Gaapu. Talk to face again and enter your name,
Gaapu, a second time. Talk to the face again and enter your name a
third time. You are now able to read the completed introduction to The
Story of the Island of Seven Winds in the book. Walk towards the door
of your house, a crashing sound is heard and Chapter 1 begins.

8.2 - Chapter 1 - Saishiyo's Friend.

Open the door and leave the tree house. Talk to the blue creature who
appears and follow it down the steps. You are now able to explore some
of the island. Find and talk to the floating pink creature. Return to
the tree house and find the creatures name in the book. Return to the
creature and enter Kusanezumi in the Katakana screen. Kusanezumi will
give you a green horn.

Find the old man who is asleep and wake him by blowing the green horn.
The old man will give you a bug catcher. Continue to explore the island
and catch any bugs that you come across. You can feed the old man bugs
you have caught by selecting them in the inventory when you are
standing next to him. To hold up a bug, select the first option in the
inventory then the third option. Finally select the bug you want. Offer
the long, thin, circular bug, Watsukamushi, to the old man and he will
give you a blue horn. When you feed the old man bugs, they will appear
as collectable cards in your bureau. These cards can be placed in the 9
squared grid on the bureau.

Blow the blue horn to summon Hasaminezu. Talk to your new friend and
confirm the symbols on the Katakana screen. You can now read the
completed Chapter 1 to the story of the Island of Seven Winds. You will
reappear in your house. Walk toward the door and a purple creature will
enter.

8.3 - Chapter 2 - Kansoe Araoru.

The purple creature, Kanzou, will approach you and challenge you to a
pushing match. Press right repeatedly until Kanzou is pushed out the
door. Exit house. You are now able to run by holding down A at the
same time as left or right on the direction pad. Go to the screen with
the snail shell. Blow the blue horn next to the grass obstacle and
Hasaminezu will cut it. Proceed left and talk to the snail. Keep
walking right, then down the steps. Kanzou will challenge you to a
jumping match. Jump continuously to win.

Return to the snail and continue two screens to the left. Proceed down
the steps and to the right. Cut the grass and continue down stairs and

continuously to win. Go left then up to find Kanzou again. Return to
the snail, then go right and down to find Kanzou again. Go left, down
then right two screens. The red ceature, Kurion, is tied to a rock.
Blow blue horn and Hasaminezu will cut the rope. Talk to red creature
and confirm Kurion on the Katakana screen. You will receive a red horn.
Read the completed Chapter 2 to The Story of the Island of Seven Winds.
You will appear in your house. Follow the flying seed outside.

8.4 - Chapter 3 - The Sky Flying Tree

With the help of Kurion fly up to grab the floating seed. This is the
seed for the 'sky flying tree'. Talk to the snail and it will tell you
"Insects like grass, birds like the sky, seeds like the earth..." You
can now access new areas with the help of Kurion. Enter the tree in the
middle of the island by flying. Talk to the four rolling balls. They
will say "Pleasure from rolling, rolling for pleasure." Talk to the old
man and feed him some more bugs. Return to your house and continue
left. A yellow creature is asleep next to the blue crystal. Blow the
green horn. The creature will wake up and shatter the crystal. Plant
the 'sky flying tree' seed in the earth below the blue crystal. Talk to
the yellow creature again then return the snail. The snail will tell
you that island has a wind messenger who is at the red triangle.

Go to the red pyramid and fly over the gap below. You will receive a
stone earring from the wind lion to the left of the pyramid. The wind
lion will tell you about a big face, a place where the wind's sound is
heard. Go to the big rock face below your house. Hold the earring,
listed in the inventory as 'Watsuka rock', in front of the ear. The
ear-door will now be unlocked. Enter the door. Speak to the wind lion
playing the organ. It will tell you "On the island blows 6 winds,
dreams have 1 wind." Read the snake-sign. It lists the 6 winds on the
island. Return to the seeding to the left of your house. The yellow
creature will be gone and the text on the screen will read "On the
island blows 6 winds. The sky flying tree likes wind. The dragon's
spirit floats on the wind." Talk to the snail again then return to the
seedling.

Go to the edge of the cliff, jump in the air a few times then blow your
green horn. The wind lion will appear. It will tell you "The third
wind. Spirit floats on the wind. The sky flying tree likes wind." The
lion will roar and the seedling will grow. Get Hasaminezu to cut the
wood from the 'sky flying tree'. Pink bugs will cover the tree. Hold
the book-butterfly, the Furuhonmutsu, up the to tree. It will eat the
bugs. The tree will flap its branches and fly away, carrying the yellow
creature. A root and the yellow creature will then fall from the tree.
Speak to the creature. Confirm the name Rokuzou in the Katakana screen.
You will receive a yellow horn. You can now read the completed chapter
3 to The Story of the Island of Seven Winds. You will appear in your
house. Walk to the door.

8.5 Chapter 4 The Wind Messenger.

Talk to the silver bid. It will say its name is Hyuu. Hyuu will give
you a 'Wind Fruit' and fly away. The text on the screen will tell you
that Kyuu is transmitting the wind lion's message. Return to the snail.
It will tell you "The wind's fruit knows someone in the middle of the
big tree. Green, Blue. Red, Yellow." Talk to the old man, he will tell
you that by the mushroom, an uncommon bug, the Hatena, can be found.
The old man wants to roast a Hatena bug. You can catch Hatena bugs on
the right side of the island by the orange mushroom. You have to run
back and forward for a while before they appear. The Hatena bug looks
like a long yellow worm with red spots.

You can now access new areas of the island with the help of Rokuzou. It
will shatter rocks and stones for you. If you get Rokuzou to shatter
the blue crystal above the three doors to the left of the snail you can
pick it up and keep it. Return to the red pyramid. You are now able to
explore the area further below the pyramid. There are some new bugs to
be found below the small inverted red pyramid, which is below the large
red pyramid. The hand to the left of the small inverted pyramid will
tell you that it is the right hand of Guson. You can find the face of
Guson in the tree in the centre of the island. You must shatter a rock
in front of the tree to enter. Guson's face will tell you to visit
someone who roasts things.

This walkthrough is incomplete. It will be continued if a kind person
emails me with details on how to progress in the game.

9 Disk 2 - Digital Fan Disk.

The Digital Fan Disk, or 'Puremiamu CD', is filled with Bitmap images
of locations and characters from the game. The images can be access on
you Saturn, or any PC that can decode BMP images. The images can,
therefore, be used as wallpaper or as a screensaver on your PC. The
images are ordered into 8 categories: Characters, Bugs, Fish, Plants,
Rocks, Items, Locations and Pencil Sketches. The image names are in
English so if you don't read katakana, you can learn the names of the
characters and insects. I have noticed that there is one location
screen missing from the images. The screen featuring the base of the
big red pyramid is not included in the images. Despite this oversight,
the digital fan disk is a great addition to the game. Because the
artwork in the game is so detailed and imaginative, it can be enjoyed
outside the context of the game.
