=i. Introduction & Version History=
=---------------------------------=
Upon playing this game for the first time, I was absolutely clueless as to
what to do and where to go. I found myself becoming overly frustrated at the
game due to the excessive difficulty the game provides. I didn't know what
the Jellybeans did, I didn't know where to go, and I pretty much sucked at
the game. After playing into it a while, I found it getting somewhat easier.
And I thank Nash for his wonderful guide on the game, which helped me get
through Blobolonia.

I must admit, this game is no walk in the park, and I salute David Crane
for creating such a tough game. Despite the frustration, you will find "A
boy and his Blob" one of the best games you've ever played, and you can all
thank Mr. Crane for creating it. To help you along your way, I've created
a guide for the game, which you are reading now. Hopefully, you will be able
to get through the game with easy by following this guide...hopefully.

Version History:

V1.0 (10/10/1999): Initial Release. Added part of the walkthrough and most of
                   the Jellybean functions.

=I. Story=
=--------=
Straight from the Instruction Manual:

Look! He likes them!

Likes them? The boy's Blob loves them! Jellybeans, that is.
In every flavor under the subway. Like Vanilla. Apple.
Tangerine. Cinnamon. Cola. Coconut. And more.

Like many boys in the twenty-first century, the boy has a
buddy from outer space. This one's from Blobolonia - a
place where an evil emperor makes everyone eat only
marshmallows and chocolate. In fact, for the emperor,
healthy
things like vitamins are poisonous.

Blob (his full name is Blobert) came to Earth looking for
someone to help him defeat the evil emperor. That's how he
met the boy.

To defeat the evil emperor they boy and Blob will need a
goodly supply of vitamins. And to get the vitamins, they'll
need money. To get money, they'll search the underground
caverns for hidden treasures and diamond stones.

So what's a boy to do? Just whistle! (That'll call Blob.)
Then feed him jellybeans.

You see, the boy miraculously discovered that not only does
Blob love jellybeans - but that different jellybeans turn
Blob into different shapes. And that those shapes can be
used to get through many otherwise impossible situations!

With his repertoire of shapes, Blob can help the boy
overcome even the most outrageous obstacles - as long as
Blob gets the right flavored bean. In fact, with enough
jellybeans in enough flavors, anything is possible.

=II. Before Playing=
=------------------=
Here are some standard playing tips, taken straight from the manual. These
tips will help you on your quest to save Blobolonia.

- To put a little distance on a tossed jellybean, take a
step while tossing it.

- Be careful where you carve your holes. It could be a long
way down!

- Whistling is one way to bring blob closer to you. But if
you're trying to position him in a critically precise spot,
change him into a blow torch so he can easily be picked up
and moved.

- Never go too far without letting Blob catch up. If you
lose him, you're out of luck. Unless, of course, you can
make him ketchup.

- To increase the height of a jump on your trampoline,
press the Up arrow. To decrease the height, press the Down
arrow. To jump off, move to the side at the pinnacle of
your jump.

- Remember: after you've collected all the treasure, you'll
still have to return to the street, get to the health food
store and purchase the vitamins.

- There's more than one way to stop a candy machine.

- Experiment! Experiment! Experiment!

=V. Walkthrough=
=--------------=
There are 2 worlds in this game, and below I've listed a little excerpt from
the Instruction manual about these 2 worlds. You will find the walkthrough
following this excerpt:

"A Boy and His blob takes place in two very different
worlds.

The first world lies in the caverns deep beneath the
streets of the city in which the boy lives. The second
world is on the planet Blobolonia, where Blob is from.

In the boy's world (Earth) you'll search for hidden
treasures, giant diamonds, bags of extra jellybeans and
more. The more treasures you find, the more vitamins you
can purchase to fight the evil emperor on Blobolonia. The
display
"TR" at the top of the screen tells you how many treasures
are left to be found.

Finding your way through the underground caverns won't be
easy. There are many dangerous turns - and tumbles. As well
as deadly enemies. So it may be wise to keep a map of where
you've been - and what's there.

In the Blob's world (Blobolonia) you'll find orchards,
farms, a candy factory and the dangerous home of the evil
emperor. You'll also find the sparkling peppermint candies
-invaluable when it comes to creating extra lives.

To get from the Earth to Blobolonia (or vice versa), the
boy must employ a special type of transportation. And
unless he's armed with a VitaBlaster and a good supply of
vitamins for ammunition, he'll be quite helpless on
Blobolonia.

Though the boy's world and the Blob's world may appear to
be very different, they do have one thing in common:
constant surprises!"

From the beginning of the game, you will be located in front of your house
with Blob by your side. Go right past the next 2 screens, until you come to the
sign that reads "SUBWAY." You will see a flight of stairs leading down here.
Go to the top of the stairs and press the DOWN arrow, then make your way down
the stairs. Go right one screen where you will find some graffiti on the wall.
From here, switch to the Punch Jellybeans (Select Button) and give one to Blob.
He will transform into a hole, drop through the hole to the platform below.

Now, move to the left and whistle for Blob (B Button). If you don't move to
the left while whistling, Blob will fall down and you will go through the hole
again. Once Blob is down, go left where you will find some Treasure on a broken
platform above. Position yourself right under the platform with the treasure
and throw Blob a Licorice Jellybean to transform him into a Ladder. Climb the
ladder to the platform and collect the treasure (TR=21).

Climb down the ladder, and whistle to make Blob return to his natural form.
Head right 2 screens to find another graffiti area. This room has a sign that
reads "ABSOLUTE AVENUE" on it. To the left of this sign, you will find the
word "Garry" on the wall. In the center of this graffiti, give Blob a Punch
Jellybean to transform him into a Hole, and drop down to the lower platform.
In this area, move right a bit and whistle for Blob to drop down. You will
see a treasure and an enemy here. The enemy bounces left and right over the
treasure. When it bouces right, run and grab the treasure (TR=20) and run back
to where you were standing. Wait until it is safe to cross and go past the
enemy. Don't worry about Blob, because he cannot be hurt by the enemies.

From where the enemy is, move right 3 screens. (You can jump off the small
cliff on the 2nd screen, but stop when you get to the 3rd screen). When you
are faced with the cliff on the 3rd screen. Feed Blob a Cola or Vanilla
Jellybean to transform him into a Bubble or Umbrella, either one will allow
you to float down below. Float to the far right wall until you reach the
bottom where you will find a treasure (TR=19). To the left, you will see
a spider web, don't walk into it or you will lose a life. Instead, give Blob
a Cinnamon Jellybean to transform him into a blowtorch. Use this torch to
get rid of the spider web blocking your path.

In this area you will find falling rocks from above. Feed Blob a Vanilla
(or Cola) Jellybean to protect you from the falling rocks above. Go past this
screen, as well as the next, where you will be presented with a broken bridge,
an enemy and a treasure across the gap. The enemy here will be jumping from
the left half to the right half of the broken bridge, and you will have to
position Blob on the very edge of the right half of the gap. To do so, feed
him a Cinnamon Jellybean to transform him into a Blowtorch, pick up the torch
and then set it down right at the edge of the bridge and whistle to make Blob
reform. Now, feed Blob a Strawberry Jellybean to transform him into a bridge.
Cross the gap when the enemy is out of the way and collect the treasure on
the other side (TR=18).

Whistle for blob to reform and then feed him a Vanilla Jellybean to transform
him into an umbrella. Use the umbrella to float down to the lower platform. Go
right 2 screens where you will see a Diamond high above, hovering in the air.
Float down from this screen and land on the ground below. Position Blob about
4 long steps from the right and feed him a Tangerine Jellybean to transform him
into a trampoline. Jump on and press the UP button on the D-Pad to jump higher.
Continue to do this until you finally reach the Diamond (TR=17). Move right or
left to get off of the trampoline and whistle for Blob.

Go right 1 screen and drop off the ledge. Run underneathe the enemy and go
left a screen. Here you will find another gap preventing you from reaching the
other side. Feed Blob a Cinnamon Jellybean to transform him into a Blowtorch,
place the torch on the edge of the gap and whistle to reform Blob. Feed him a
Strawberry bean to transform him into a bridge, cross and whistle for him. Go
left a screen to find an enemy hopping to the right of a treasure. Run under
the enemy when safe to do so and collect the treasure (TR=16).

Head past the enemy again back to the screen you were just at. Hop down off
the edge to the ground below. Run left 2 screens to find platforms leading up.
Once Blob catches up, position him underneathe the first platform and feed him
a Licorice bean to transform him into a ladder. Climb up to the platform above.
Whistle for Blob and position him under the platform above (Make sure Blob is
underneathe the above platform and not in the air, or the ladder won't work.)
Feed him another Licorice bean and climb up to the platform. You will find one
last short platform with the treasure on it. Position Blob under the platform
and feed him another Licorice bean and climb up to get the treasure (TR=15).

Now, jump down the 3 platforms and go right back to where you dropped down
from. Once here, feed Blob a Punch bean to make him into a Hole. Drop down
to the lower ground and go left 2 screens. You will find 2 cliffs above with
a large opening in between. Position Blob a little bit left from the
center and feed him a Tangerine Jellybean to turn him into a Trampoline. Jump
up on the trampoline and continue pressing UP on the D-Pad until you jump
all the way to the top where you can't jump anymore. Once you get to the
very top, move left to land on the platform. Now whistle to transform Blob
into himself way down below, then throw a Honey Jellybean all the way down
to Blob until he eats it. He will transform into a Hummingbird and fly up
to you. Whistle to reform him. Go left one screen and drop down into the
pit below where you will find an enemy and a treasure. Pass the enemy and
collect the treasure (TR=14).

Switch to your Punch beans and throw one to Blob to transform him into
a hole near where the treasure was. Avoid being hit by the enemy and drop
through the hole to the lower ground where you will find another treasure
near the left side (TR=13). Whistle for Blob and feed him another Punch
Jellybean when he drops down. Go through the hole to the ground below where
there is another treasure to the left waiting for you (TR=12).

Whistle for Blob if you haven't done so already and feed him a Cola
Jellybean to transform him into a Bubble. Hop into the bubble and go right
a screen. Drop down the platform where you will fall down about 3 screens.
Go left 1 screen and drop off the cliff to the left and you will fall into
water below. Without the Bubble you will die in the water, so don't whistle
while in the water. The current will be slightly moving left, but ignore that
for now. Go down one screen and left 1 screen to find a Diamond up above to
the left, collect it (TR=11). You now have half of the treasure in this world.

Now, go right 3 screens (avoiding the spikes on the celing on the 2nd
screen) and then down one screen on the 3rd screen. Be very careful here
because there are spikes from the ocean floor with a treasure in between them,
you must carefully get in between the spikes and collect the treasure without
popping the bubble, otherwise you will die. Carefully collect the treasure
(TR=10), or [if you have enough lives] you can senslessly go for the treasure
while at the same time popping your bubble losing a life, but you will at
least have collected the treasure.

More on the Walkthrough to come, as I have just died at this part and don't
wish to play all through that again, but I will later today or tomorrow...

=VI. Codes=
=---------=
Here are some codes for the game:

Turn Blob into a Brick
----------------------
Toss the blob a Honey jellybean then during transformation, toss it a
Ketchup jellybean and he will turn into a brick.

How to defeat the boss
----------------------
When your blob is locked in the cage, throw an apple jellybean by
pressing the throw button and running toward him and he will use his
jack to bust out of the cage and knock a bottle of vitamins onto the
boss.

How to get extra vitamins
-------------------------
After you gain all of the treasures throughout the game, return to the
starting point. And go to the health store all the way to the right.

The Boss:
---------
When you first arrive in the Blob's world, go left until you can go no
further. Toss a jellybean against the left side of the screen and
usually the jellybean will just roll off. Run back and forth tossing a
jellybean against the left side of the screen and if your lucky the
jellybean will be tossed to where the Emperor is and you will get a
glimpse of the final scene where you fight the emperor. The code has
been activated. Proceed to the right and you will find that almost all
of your enemies have disappeared including the cherry bombs,
marshmallows, and popcorn.
