=i. Introduction & Version History=
=---------------------------------=
This FAQ is for the game Sonic The Hedgehog 2 for the Sega Genesis.
The reason I wrote a FAQ/Walkthrough for this game is because I am a
fan of ALL the sonic games, I have played almost all of them (Sonic 1, Sonic 2,
Sonic 3, Sonic 3D Blast, Sonic Spinball, & Sonic & Knuckles) There aren't many
FAQs for this game, so I decided to write one, so I hope you find it somewhat
useful.

Version History:
----------------
V1.1 (06/24/2000): FAQ Reformatted. More updates coming very soon...
V1.0 (10/23/1999): Initial Release. Updates shall proceed.

*******************************************************************************

=-------------=
=I. Characters=
=-------------=
a. Sonic - If you don't know who this guy is, then you shouldn't be
playing this game. But anyways, Sonic is the MAIN character in the
game. He is the character you control, unless you choose
Tails(Miles). Sonic is a Hedgehog, a funny colored hedgehog, but
still a hedgehog. His skills are running VERY, VERY fast, doing
flips in the air, and doing different types of spins. He is one
   energetic Hedgehog.

b. Super Sonic - This is a transformation from Sonic. This guy is
SUPER, SUPER fast and wild, he has yellowish hair, and the only
way to get him is with a code. (See the CODES section to find out
    how to get him.)

c. Miles (Tails)
This is 1 character with 2 names, he can either be Miles or the
more famous name, Tails. He is Sonic's best friend. Like sonic,
Tails is also an animal. He is a Fox. He has the same skills as
sonic, and the only difference is that he is a Fox.

d. Creatures
Dr. Robotnik has captured and hypnotised little animals (Creatures)
and turned them into evil enemies. At the end of each level when
you jump onto the release tank, all of the little creatures will
come hopping and running out of the tank. So these are your
friends but have been turned into your Enemies by the EVIL Dr.
   Robotnik.

e. Dr. Robotnik
This is your arch ENEMY! He is the EVIL of all EVIL. In other
words he is the bad guy. Dr. Robotnik has captured little
creatures and turned them into his evil enemies throughout the
game. Your mission is to destroy Dr. Robotnik. You will fight him
throughout the game (Every 2 levels) and one final battle at the
   end of the game.

*******************************************************************************

=------------=
=II. Controls=
=------------=
Standard Genesis Controls...

Start - Pauses the game.

D-Pad - Moves your Character of course.

A, B, C - Makes your character jump; Selects.

Down + A, B, C - Makes your character do a SUPER SPIN.

*******************************************************************************

=----------=
=III. Items=
=----------=
a. Rings - You know what these are. The Gold rings you collet
throughout the game. The more you have the higher your score is
at the end of the level. If you don't have any rings and you get
hit by an enemy, you will die. However, if you have rings and you
get hit by an enemy, you lose all of your rings, but you have a
limited time to try and pick some of them up.

b. Box Types - These are little pictures inside of like a monitor, or
TV Screen. Here are the things inside of them and what they do:

Item inside Screen What it does
	------------------ ------------
Shoe..........................Makes Sonic run very fast for a
	                              limited time.
Sonic Head....................Gives you an extra life.
	Stars.........................Makes Sonic Invincible for a
	                              limited time.
	Ring..........................Gives Sonic 10 Rings.
Shield........................Makes a barrier around sonic, and
protects him from 1 hit from an
	                              enemy.

c. Emeralds - I'm not sure how many of these there are, but if you
collect all of them, you can be super sonic in every level once
you get 50 coins in that level, (You also can get super sonic by
    using a code, (SEE CODES)).

*******************************************************************************

=-----------=
=IV. Enemies=
=-----------=
Here are all of the enemies in the game, they go in order by the level
that they are in:

Emerald Hill
------------
Monkey - He throws coconuts at you from a tree, so be careful, just
hit him on the head and you should kill him.

Bee - This thing looks like a bee, and he shoots little things at you
from his tail, be careful of him, kill him the same way you kill the
monkey.

Pirahna - Jumps up and down over bridges. To kill it jump on top of
its head, but make sure you don't fall on top of it's head or you will
lose your rings or die.

Chemical Plant
--------------
Ant Hills - These are little things that look like ant hills and they
shoot little things out of the top of themselves.

=VI. Walkthrough=
=---------------=

------------
Emerald Hill
------------
Act 1 - Walk forward and collect the 6 Rings and kill the monkey
throwing Coconuts. The right after the monkey kill the flying Bee
type thing that shoots stuff out of it's tail. Then jump up onto the
moving platform and get the Shield and get the 3 rings. After you get
that stuff kill another one of those monkeys. Then go down to the
bottom where you didn't go before and collect the rings there. Now go
up onto the bridge and kill the 2 pirahnas (See ENEMIES if you don't
know how to kill them.) and collect the rings. Continue going and
kill the monkey, then go down onto the moving platform and go inside
of that little area with rings to the left of the moving platform.
Then come out of that area and run into the spring to get a boost to
the right. You will go SUPER fast if you run with the boost. If done
correctly you should collect some rings and then fly back up to the
top and then collect those rings. Once you arrive back at the top,
you can go a little back to the left and get the SHOE box to make you
run fast, and if you get the SHOE box, kill the monkey while you are
at it. Now go back to the right, don't jump on the spring, and go
through the loop of rings. And keep running and you will go through a
loop on the floor. Then jump up and get the RING box, and kill the
pirahna, you should fall back to the bottom if you kill the pirahna.
This is good because there are A LOT of rings on the bottom. Once you
fall to the bottom, go LEFT and keep going until you come back to
where you started off at, the place with the spring and the area where
you got those rings. You should have picked up a Shield on your way,
but if you didn't it doesn't matter. Now go all the way back to where
you killed that pirahna and this time jump over the water fall, and
kill the monkey when you get up to the platform, then keep walking (To
the RIGHT) and kill the other monkey. There is a MARKER here, which
is sort of a Checkpoint if you die you start there. But also if you
have collected 50 Rings some stars will appear over the marker
allowing you to go into a bonus round. (See BONUS ROUND) Right after
the marker you will come to 2 loops of rings, go through them both and
keep running, but DON'T hit the springs, you should come up really
high and go into a Secret area that has rings and an EXTRA-LIFE. Then
come out of the secret area and you will fall to the bottom. Kill the
2 bees and get the Ring box. Then go to the bridge, collect the rings
and kill the 2 pirahnas and kill the monkey. Then hit the spring to
go back up to the top. And if you want, go left and you can go
through a Loop on the ground to get some extra rings if you haven't
already went through it. After that, go to the right and you will
COMPLETE Act 1.

Act 2 - Go forward and collect the 3 rings and jump up onto the top
platform and collect those 3 rings. Then jump onto the spring and
press the right button and you will collect some rings in the air,
and you will land on the floor. Jump up and go to the left and
kill the 2 monkeys and get the rings over the SPIKES. Then keep going
let and kill the 2 pirahnas and collect the rings. Then go back to
the right, and jump up to where the Shoe box is. Kill the 2 bees and
get the Shoe box if you want to. Then continue right and kill the
monkey and jump over the little gap onto the other side. When you
come to the moving platform collect the ring box and jump onto the
moving platform. Collect the 3 rings and jump up and get those rings
and kill the monkey. Then jump onto the spring which will take you up
toa higher platform. Cross the bridge and kill the bee. Go downhill
and collect the rings. Then kill the other bee and you will land on
top of a ring loop. Walk on top of it and jump off onto the moving
platform to the right. Then you will land on top of another ring loop
and this one has a marker on top of it. Kill the be and touch the
marker. If you have 50 coins you will go to the bonus round otherwise
you will just stay there. Jump on the spring to take you up to yet
another higher platform. Once there kill the bee and if you step on
that platform that is on the waterfall if falls. So you need to step
on it and jump up before it falls. Then you should make it up to where
a spring is. Jump on the spring which takes you to another spring and
pushes you up onto a higher platform. Cross the bridge and go through
the 2 ring loops and the very long ground loop and then you will go
through another ring loop and fall to a lower platform whereyou can
go through yet another ground loop (Talk about a lot of rings).
Then after that last ground loop go right and hit the marker. You
should have 50 rings from all of that and you should go to the bonus
round, but if not just go to the right to meet Dr. Robotnik for the
first time.

Dr. Robotnik #1
---------------
This time he is really easy. He is inside of a vehicle that has a
spike in the front of it and he goes back and forth trying to hit you
with a spike. C'mon how hard can he be to beat. Just jump onto his
head or onto the top of his car as many times as you can before he
goes off screen. Once you hit him 8 times he will be defeated. Then
run to the right and FREE all of the little creatures Dr. Robotnik was
keeping. To free them, just jump onto the top of the tank and hit the
spring type button.

***BONUS ROUNDS***
-----------------
If you made it to the bonus round you would've saw how it is. You and
Tails (Miles) are on a racing track type thing and your goal is to
collect as many rings as you are told to collect. There are 3 parts
to a Bonus round. The first time you are told to collect a certain
amount of rings, and if you succeed in collecting them, you move on to
the 2nd part. The 2nd part tells you collect more rings than the
first time, and if you succeed in that you move on to the 3rd part.
The 3rd part tells you to collect more rings than the 1st and 2nd
part. And if you succeed in that you get a Chaos Emerald. The first
Bonus Round is pretty easy. You will have to collect 40 rings in the
1st part. 80 Rings in the 2nd part and 140 Rings in the 3rd part.
Watch out for the bomb type things because if you OR tails(Miles) hits
them, you lose rings. Good Luck!

--------------
Chemical Plant
--------------
Act 1 - Get the 3 rings and jump onto the moving platform and jump off
to the platform on the right. Get those 3 rings and in this part you
can go 2 different directions up or down. Either way you go you end
up in the same place but, I am going to bottom direction, so if you
are following me, go down. You should collect 3 rings and then go
through a ring loop and hit a spring on your way down. Just jump over
it and go up onto the platform. Get the Ring Box and kill the ant
hill thing. Then fall to the bottom and continue going LEFT until you
reach an area with a marker and a pipe with a block on top of it. Hit
the marker and if you have 50 coins you go to the bonus round.
Otherwise break the block onto of the pipe and you will go inside of
it and come out on the other side.

More Coming Soon...

=VII. Codes + Game Genie=
=-----------------------=
Thanks to Outkast for these codes:

Debug Mode
To enter Debug Mode, play these sounds from the level select screen:
1, 9, 9, 2, 1, 1, 2, 4. Press Start and hold A.

To start debugging, press B, then you can select any sprite in that
level and put it on the screen. To select a different sprite, press
A, and to place it on the screen, press C. Note that sprite
selection is different from Zone to Zone. Also, instead of
displaying the time elapsed, it displays the number of sprites
currently on the screen.

Easy Chaos Emeralds
Start the game as you normally would. Get a Chaos Emerald, reset the
game, and start the game from the options menu. You will keep the
emeralds you have gained so far each time you start from the options
menu.

Emerald Hill Shortcut
To breeze through Emerald Hill 1 and 2, connect Sonic & Knuckles with
Sonic 2 and play as Knuckles. Climb as high as you can and glide to
the right. You'll reach the end of the level in seconds!

Extra Lives in the Chemical Plant
If you have Sonic & Knuckles, hook it onto Sonic 2. Play until Chemical
Plant Act 1. When you get to the wall with the Spiny badnik and the warp
tube on the floor. Break open the tube and go through it. When you come
out you will see a Ring Box next to a tower. Climb up the tower and on
the top you will find one 1-up. Glide left and you will find another
1-up. Glide to the left one more time and you will find yet one more
1-up. Since you won't want to go through the level again just glide
to the right until you get to the tower you started from. Get on
that first tower and glide to the right. The Act will be over and
you will have 3 lives more that how much you started the act with.

Level Select
From the main screen, select Options. Select Sound Select and play
sounds 19, 65, 9, 17, then push C. Press Start to return to the main
screen, and when Sonic and Tails appear, hold A and press Start.

More Continues
First enable the level select. Then, at the options screen, play these
sounds in this order: 1, 1, 2, 4. Now move the highlight to the "Player
Select" field of the options screen and press Start.

Play at Night
To play at night, enter the Debug code, then hold C and press Start to
begin a level.

Shielded Tails
To give tails a sheild, enter debug mode and hit a shield. Then place a
teleport box down and hit that. Now tails has a permenant sheild.

Slow Motion
First enable Level Select. While playing, you can pause the game and
use A to restart, B for slow motion, and C for frame advance.

Super Sonic
To become Super Sonic without getting all the Chaos Emeralds, first
enable the level select. At the level select menu, go to the sound
test item, and play sounds in this order: 4, 1, 2, 6. You should
hear the music you get when you win a chaos emerald. Now select any
level, get 50 rings, and jump.

Super Tails
While in Debug Mode, create and position a "Transfer Box" monitor.
When you hit it and you are Super Sonic, you lose all your powers but
stay yellow. Tails looks the same but has invincibility (little
stars flashing around him.)

To regain Super Sonic, let yourself get hit, then turn into a ring
(press B) and place at least 50 rings on Tails. Exit debug mode
(press B) and jump to become Super Sonic with Super Tails as a
follower.

Tails/Miles Mode
At the title screen press Up, Up, Up, Down, Down, Down, Up or Up, Up,
Down, Down, Up, Up, Up, Up. A chime will sound and Tails will be called
Miles or vice versa.

Two Tails
Enter the level select and debug codes, then go to the Sky Chase level.
Using debug mode, create a transfer box and break it open. When you hear
Sonic die press B to enter debug mode again. Move the cursor up until
you see Tails and exit debug mode. To finish, jump and you'll have
two Tails.

Wing Fortress Shortcut
In Wing Fortress, go as far as you can to the right without climbing.
Make sure you have some rings. When you see blades blocking your way,
go ahead and hit them. As soon as you are invincible, walk through
them. Jump on the platforms to the right and half the level will be
finished.
