Welcome to the Free version of Boing!

This program will keep you amused for hours!

It is a rigorous physical simulation of any number of point masses connected together by springs. When animating, they can be made to exhibit creature-like behaviour by using springs as muscles.

Using Boing should be self expanatory (!)

Explore the menus. Try loading the focus.bng example.

Use File - New to start your own Boing! creature.

Right click on the main pane to add masses, either fixed or movable.

To add a spring, select a mass with the left mouse button so that it changes colour. Select another mass with the right mouse button. Choose "Add Spring" from the popup menu.

Highlight a spring with the right button to alter it's properties and make it into a muscle. You can determine the phase of the drive impulse in relation to a zero point, thus making springs oppose each other etc. You can also adjust spring stiffness individually.

If you are quick, you can capture and drag masses while your creature is animating.

Try turning Gravity and Aerodynamic Drag down to zero for a screensaver-like persistence of motion.

Try making springs less rigid by decreasing the value of the global spring constant K.

Above all, experiment and enjoy!
