Version 1.0 (10/15/00): I reformatted the entire FAQ with this update. I also
removed the entire "Built-In Codes" list since I see it as a big waste of
space. After all, this FAQ is just a general FAQ about Game Enhancer-type
devices for your Sony Playstation!

-= 2. Game Enhancer FAQ -=
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

Q: What exactly is the Game Enhancer?

A: The Game Enhancer is a bunch of things rolled into one unit! To be more
detailed, it is an external mod-chip, a GameShark-like unit, a CD
player, and some other cool features which I'll get into further in
       this guide.

Q: I bought the Game Enhancer, but I can't plug it into my Playstation! Why?

A: The Game Enhancer plugs into the Parallel I/O Port in back of your
system. All Playstation units except for the "9001" unit has a Parallel
I/O port. If you own a 9001 unit, this device is useless.

Q: How can I tell which unit type I have?

A: Look under your Playstation unit at the label. It should say, "MODEL
NO. SCPH-####". If the last 4 spaces are not 9001 in that order, your
system should be able to use this device.

Q: With the Game Enhancer, how can I play import games on my system?

A: It involves a very simple process. It is NOT the Disk Swapping trick
that can only be done on the earliest model of Playstation (SCPH-1001).
Here are the steps to run an import game using the Game Enhancer and
the spring packed into the box with it:

    1. Open the cover of the unit as if you were going to put a game in.
You'll see a small, round button in the upper-right corner of the
inside part of the system. Take the spring and put the end with the
little edge sticking out onto the piece that pushes the button when the
cover is shut. Then, put the other end of the spring onto the button so
it pushes the button. Now the spring is set up and you never have to
remove it again! (You can also keep the cover up while playing games
because while that button is pushed, the system will think the cover is
       closed!)

    2. Put in any US Playstation game, either a regular game or a demo, and
turn on the system. (The Game Enhancer should be plugged into the back
       of your unit already.)

    3. Keep the cover open and wait for the disk to stop; when it stops, take
it out and replace it with the import game disk.

    4. Select the option "Start Game" on the Game Enhancer on-screen menu and
the import game will run in your system! (Please note that you must do
this process each time you wish to play an import game on your US
       system.)

Q: Would I be able to play multi-disc import games with the Game Enhancer?

A: Yes, there are a couple of small steps required in order to switch
discs. If you have a memory card, you should save your game at the end
of disk 1, then try the trick to play import games to boot up the
second disc. If you don't have a memory card, follow these steps to
       load the second disc:

    1. When the game prompts you to switch to disk 2, remove the first disk
and put in a US regular game or demo disk into the system.

    2. Press Start after you insert the US game to make the game start
       spinning.

    3. Wait a couple seconds, then remove the US disk and replace it with the
second disk of the import game!

Q: If I have a mod-chip installed into my Playstation already, would my Game
Enhancer work with the mod-chip when playing import games?

A: Yes it would work. The two devices don't interfere with each other, so
you'll be able to use the Game Enhancer just fine.

Q: What's the difference between playing a regular game with the Game Enhancer
   plugged in or not?

A: There's a speed difference if you play a regular game with the Game
Enhancer plugged in. Select "Start Game" from the menu, and the game
will load much quicker. You won't have to sit through those first two
screens with Sony and the Playstation logo!

Q: Would the Game Enhancer work on Playstation consoles that aren't in NTSC
   (US) format?

A: Yes it will! The Game Enhancer will work perfectly whether the system
it's plugged into is in NTSC or PAL format!

Q: How come when I go to the the Memory Manager menu, it keeps saying my
   memory card is unformatted?

A: I have the same exact problem with my own memory card! Therefore I'm
not so sure what the correct answer is. My guess is that if you bought
a third-party memory card, it won't work. Try using one of Sony's
official Playstation memory cards and see if it works; it's probably
       worth a try!

Q: Are there any bugs/glitches in the Game Enhancer 3?

A: Yes, and I found one so far. All bugs/glitches will be listed below in
the Bugs and Glitches section for reference.

Q: Are there any programming errors with the Game Enhancer 3?

A: Yes, definitely a few, and they're mainly in the Built-In Cheats list.
There are parts where a code list for one game was selected and you see
the name of another game and another list of cheats in the middle of
the cheat list for a different game! For one of the games listed below,
there was an error in the title bar in the game list, which I wrote
about in the small list below. I'll list where those errors are in the
Bugs and Glitches section, so you know in case you're looking for
cheats for a certain game. (I don't know if those codes for the game
different from the original game you listed codes for work. So please
don't ask me how to make them work!)

-= 3. Game Enhancer Options -=
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

There are 7 different options on the Game Enhancer's main menu. Here I'll talk
about what each option does so you'll be more familiar with your Game Enhancer
unit.

Start Game
----------

Start Game is the first option on the menu. It'll start loading the game in the
system when you select it. During the few seconds it'll take to load the game,
you'll see a large "START" button in the middle of your screen; ignore it
because it's not going to affect your system or the game in any way!

Start Game with Cheats
----------------------

When you select this option, it'll start up the game as if you selected the
"Start Game" option instead, but it'll allow the cheat codes for the game
you're playing that you've selected to go into effect.

Custom Cheats
-------------

This is the part where you can input codes into the Game Enhancer to use! When
you select this option from the menu, you'll be brought to a screen where it'll
list any games that you've inputted into the device already, as well as give
you the option to create a new game record. If you select the "New Game Record"
option, you'll be brought to a screen where you'll have to input the name of
the game you're making a record for. After you make the name, press X and
select "OK" to save the name of the game. Then, you can either select "master
code" to input the master code to activate any codes put in for that game, or
you can select "new code" to put in a regular GameShark code. If you want to
activate any codes in the Custom Codes list for the game you selected, look at
the list of codes you inputted. The activated ones will have "+" signs on both
sides of the cheat, as well as being highlighted in green. By default, any
codes in the list are automatically activated; to change the default setting
for the code, press the Square button while highlighting the code in question
to either change the code of the default setting to on or off. If you want to
delete an entire game from the Custom Cheats list, highlight the game in the
game list and press Triangle, then select OK to delete it.

Built-In Cheats
---------------

This is the option where you can see the list of games and codes built into the
Game Enhancer unit. Like in the Custom Cheats menu, select what game you're
playing and pick what cheats you want to use, then you're set. The only
downfall is that you cannot create or delete cheats from the Built-In list;
that's what the Custom Cheats part is for!

Memory Manager
--------------

This option allows you to either copy or delete data from your memory card(s).
All you have to do is follow the on-screen instructions and you'll be just
fine! I can't really help with this section because it keeps saying my memory
card is unformatted, yet I have a bunch of saved games on it and they work well
too!

Graphic Viewer
--------------

Here's a pretty interesting part of the Game Enhancer unit! I'm not sure what's
its real purpose is, but I'll describe what you can do in this little area.
You'll see a gray box in the upper-left corner of the screen that has x and y
coordinates, as well as the current screen resolution and the number of bits
there. If you press the Triangle button, you can move the box to another
corner, or make it disappear from the screen! If you press L1 or R1, you can
change the screen resolution. The different resolutions are: 256x240 (default),
640x240, 512x240, 368x240, and 320x240. Try pressing the L2 button at your own
risk because if you do, it'll cause the screen to start flashing or moving VERY
rapidly. It's annoying to look at, so I just tried it just to put info about it
here! If you push the R2 button, you can change the bit count from 16 to 24 and
vice versa. Also, use the Control Pad to move up and down the x and y
coordinates. You can go up to 1022 on the x axis and to 511 on the y axis.

CD-ROM
------

This option says it all. You can play music CD's with the Game Enhancer as
well! If there's a music CD in the system before you turned it on, it'll load
the CD and be ready at the first track. It'll say how far into the track you
are and how long the specific track is. Here are the controls to use with the
CD-ROM option:

Circle: Play

Triangle: not used

Square: Pause (press Circle to resume)

X: Stop/Exit CD-ROM screen (if you hit Play after stopping, you'll restart the
CD and will play the beginning of the first track instead of where you
   stopped)

L1: Rewind

R1: Fast forward

L2: not used

R2: not used

Select: Refreshes CD player (useful if you stopped the CD and want to play
another one; that way it'll refresh with the information for the new
        CD)

Start: not used

Left (Control Pad): Go back one track

Right (Control Pad): Go ahead to next track

work though.

For NCAA Gamebreaker '99, the game is listed twice on the main list; both lists
work though.

In the NFL Gameday '98 code list, there is a line of numbers and small letters
(a code); they go with the Home Team Scores 0 cheat, so keep the line with the
code activated if you're using it.

Bugs/Glitches
-------------

Game Enhancer locks up when you try to access the built-in code list for
Gameday '99.
