I.) INTRODUCTION

Hey there! Another FAQ from Rick, and this one is for the awesome
classic, Donkey Kong Jr. In this guide, you will find strategies on how to
beat each level for the game. After all, you obviously _are_ a little cheater
who needs to get a guide for a simplistic game like this just to see the
ending, no matter how 8-bit nostalgiac it is. (NOTE: This guide is only
compatible for the Nintendo Entertainment System and Arcade Deck of Donkey
Kong Jr. This includes Donkey Kong Classics for the NES.)

Some Strategies for this game are:
    1) You get bonus points for knocking off fruits, double when they fall on
enemies.
    2) To go up faster, use two vines when possible.
    3) To go down faster, use one vine.
    4) Speed is your friend. The faster you get through a level, the more
bonus points.

Now, on with the guide!

II.) LEVEL 1

The easiest way to get through this game is the quick way. Go as fast as
you can without running into something.

1) As soon as the game starts, jump immediately to the vine on your left and
crawl up it using both hands. Make sure that you quickly dodge a Blue Crab
should it come down your way. If possible, drop the fruit onto a blue crab
that you dodged for bonus points.

2) Fall onto the platform at your right, making sure that there isn't a Red
Crab on it. Immediately jump over to the vine with the apple on it.

3) Drop down onto the island closest to you and jump over the various sets
of islands. When you are all the way to the right side of the screen, jump
onto the vines above you and crawl to the left, up, and to the right. Also
make sure you don't run into any of the Blue or Red Crabs along your way,
dropping fruits on them if possible.

4) When you make it to the upper right hand corner of the screen, drop onto
the main platform that is constantly hovering over you. Walk towards Mario
and Donkey Kong, jumping over any Blue Crabs that start coming toward you.

5) Jump onto the small vine next to the floating platform that is next to
Donkey Kong, and drop onto the platform. Congrats for beating Level 1.

III.) LEVEL 2

A great opportunity for bonus points, this level requires perfect timing.
I'll try to explain it in the easiest way possible.

1) Go forward to where you see a catapult or bouncer. If you want to take a
shortcut, wait until the floating platform (the one that you obviously need
to jump up on to get up to the vines at the top) comes close enough to the
catapult/bouncer. If you have perfect timing, you can make a huge shortcut
right here by jumping on the catapult and onto the floating platform. If not,
simply use the catapult to get over to the next island in which you must take
the smaller floating platform to cross the cliff.

2) Jump up on the vines that are right above the island where you should be
at right now, whixh is the one on the bottom right hand corner of the
screen.Wait until the vine that is attached to the moving girder is close
enough to you for you to jump onto it. Don't forget to watch out for the bird
eggs that might fall on you if you're not careful.

3) After you're on the vine that was on the girder, wait until the floating
platform closest to you is directly under you and drop on it. In front of
you, you will see another vine on the sliding girder, only this one slides up
and down. DO NOT let this worry you. When you are actually on it, at no point
will it lift up and knock you off. Anyway, jump onto it and reach out your
hands towards the large set of vines that starts directly to your left at
this point.

4) Make your way up and to the right across this large series of vines. Make
sure you don't get hit by a bird, though. If at all possible, don't forget
that you might want to spend some extra time dropping fruits on top of
enemies for quick bonus points!

5) When you reach the top platform, simply get up to the platform next to
your dad that's locked up in the cage. If Mario releases a bird on you,
simply jump over it.

IV.) LEVEL 3

Without a doubt the easiest level in the game, it is also the coolest
looking. You should be able to get a good time bonus for this level, seeings
as how it's very easy to blaze right through.

1) The first platform in front of you is easy enough. When you first jump on
it, I advise getting your timing right and knocking off the fruit that is
just a jump away right onto the Orange Bolt that rotates around every
platform. Oh, and watch out for the Blue Sparks. They _can_ hurt you, but a
simple little jump over them nabs you a quick 200 points.

2) Climb up the vines at the end of the first platform to the edge of the
second platform. The enemies are growing progressively faster, so look before
you leap. Make sure that you are never in a position where the Orange Bolt
can sneak up behind you. He can be jumped over, but once he gets faster, it's
really not worth the risk. Get to the end of the platform, up on the next set
of vines, and on the next platform.

3) Up on the third platform now, the speed factor is starting to wear in, so
keep an eye open. Wait until the Orange Bolt is directly in front of you
before you jump on. If you do this, your chances of getting back-attacked are
slim to none. Keep going, go up the vines and onto the fourth and final
platform.

4) Okay, the Orange Bolt is very fast now, so the possibility is good that he
will back attack you and you will need to jump over him. Just work on your
timing with him, and you'll do fine. Also, watch out for any Blue Sparks that
Mario may be letting loose. When you are close enough, jump up on the vine
next to the platform by your dad and save him again.

V.) FINAL LEVEL

There is a simple strategy for this stage, so I won't bother putting it
in step form. Once again, timing is the key. You need to watch out for the
birds that Mario is constantly sending down on you, dropping the few fruits
there on them and the Red Crabs whenever possible. Anyway, the basic strategy
is to remember the speed plans. Use both hands to get the keys in the locks
at the top of the platform faster. In fact, always try to get two keys in at
a time, if at all possible. And don't forget, you can slide back down really
fast if you only holding on to one vine. Following these speed strategies and
watching out for your enemies, you'll have your dad free and Mario with a
migraine in no time.

VI.) FAQ

The FAQ section of this guide is to answer any questions you may have
that are not covered in the guide. If you have any questions you would like
put into the FAQ, feel free to E-Mail me at CresFresh420@cs.com.

1) What is the point setup in this game?

    I'm not positive, but I'm pretty sure it goes like this;
        Jumping over Enemy: 100 points
        Knocking Off Fruit: 400 points
        Fruit Hits Enemy: 800 points
Fruit Hits 2 Enemies: 1600 points
Bonus Points: starts at 5000, steadily goes down as time
increases

2) What is the fastest you can possibly be in this game?

Since there are no kinds of speed options, the fastest you can go in this
game is by going down on one vine. This is very handy for escape situations.
Another fast, but nowhere near _as_ fast, way of getting around is holding
two vines and climbing up. Great for getting around in levels, however it
leads you twice as more vulnerable to an attack.

3) Why do you call him Mario in your guide when his name is Jump-Man in the
game?

    Nobody likes a wise-ass.

4) I heard that Mario is actually a carpenter, not a plumber. Is this true?

Shigeru Miyamoto has never actually stated that Mario is a plumber, or a
carpenter, or even Italian for that matter. He likes the idea of letting the
gamer's imagination decide where, what, and why his surroundings are what
they are. Now I wouldn't mind a question that actually has any relevance to
this game, please! Honest to god, next thing you know you'll be asking me
where Mario is keeping all those crabs in this game. Wait a minute.o_O Forget
I said that.

That's all for now. E-Mail me with questions about the game for me to add to
the FAQ!
