- This game is not the first fishing game to come out for the Nintendo 64, I
think it is the most fun to play however. It's also presented by the biggest
fishing Magazine and tournament founder ever B.A.S.S. This game does a great
job of capturing the real life thrill of fishing, but allows you to do it,in
the comfort of you own home. The game is also endorsed by another legendary
sponsor, Roland Martin, one of the best fisherman ever. He has one more than
any other professional fisherman in the world. The game is also headed by Jr
. Shaw Grisby. He is an uprising star on the B.A.S.S curcuit as well.

- Bass Hunter 64, the first and only other game for fishing out on the N64,I
think BassMaster detroted it, and I think the sales comparision of the games
says so as well. BassMaster, gives a detailed and realistic game, while it's
also helping to teach people to fish, or getting them interested in it which
is great for the sport. If you are a fisherman, buy this game, if your not I
think you should at least give it a chance and rent it - its worth it.

Now... Let's get going!

Getting Started
---------------
Well, normally the first thing you want to do here is turn on the N64. Then
you want to press start at the introduction sequence to skip to the main
menu.

The main menu goes as follows:

Modes - Options
---------------
Exhibition:
RULES -
1. Default starts at 7:00AM ends at 3:00PM
2. 5 Bass Limit
3. Size minimum is 14 inches.

This is about the closest this game has to a versus mode. You can set the
game to one or two players. Your objective is to catch the heaviest
Class of fish, or at least more than your opponent. This is the only mode
where two players may play simultaneously. Once you are done fishing, or you
decide to call it quits, press start and go to end day, this will take you
to a weighing scene, to see who caught the most fish. CPU players are also
competing, so you have to actually try.

Tournament
----------
RULES:
1. Starts at 7:00AM ends at 3:00PM
2. 5 fish limit - Bass only
3. Size limit - 14 inches
4. Late penalty - 1 pound a minute.

Ok here's the deal, you start out as an amateur, and and after placing in
the top 7 after 3 tournaments, you will be invited to the BASS MASTER
classic. You will also upgrade some of your equipment. Then once your in the
BMC if you win, or come really close you will be awarded with money and
equipment. To get to that state, you have to fish and then go to the weigh
in session, then you can see the leader board.

Speed Fishing
-------------
This is also compatible for 2 players, as is the exhibition mode. This is a
really fun test of your speed and fishing accuracy ability.

Basic Layout:
What you are going to do is stand on this dock, you have your choice of
three different one. And you will be given 3 minutes to catch as many fish
as you possibly can, this means that reeling in fish time is of the essence.
Don't go for the big ones, as size does not matter. This is really fun when
racing a friend.

Casting Game
------------
This is my least favorite part of the game, but you might wnjoy it so give
it a try. This also has one or 2 player modes - hurray!!!!!!!!!!

Basic Outlay:
This is a very simple procedure, you are going to stand on a dock, and try
to cast at targets on the water. I will say that it does greatly improve
your accuracy. The problem is you only have so much time. So every 5, 10,
and 15 thousand points you get to a check point and you time is extended.
The farther the target the higher the point total.

Options
-------
Create An Angler:
This one of a kind feature for a fishing game allows you to create your very
own fisherman or fisherwoman. You will pick from options like:

The Fisherman
-------------
Roland Martin:
He has won 19 more tournaments than any other pro in the history of fishing.
He has been awarded the angler of the year award 9 times, and has 21
appearances in the BMC. He enjoys hunting and designing tackle when he isn't
fishing, he lives in Florida, and has a TV show on TNN.

Shaw Grisby, Jr.
He too has a TV show on TNN called "One more cast." He has one 6 tournaments
as a professional and has earned a career total of over 800,000 dollars. He
lives In Gainesville Florida, and like to Fly fish as well. He has been in
the BMC eight times in his career.

The Fish
--------
Largemouth Bass:
This is quite possibly the most fished for species in the world. It is known
for its enormous mouth. It is famous for jumping and spitting the hook right
before it gets to the boat, and most lakes have a mythical fish called old
something. They eat anything, but are still of top food value.

Smallmouth Bass:
This fish is known for its much smaller mouth than the LM bass. It is a
bronze greenish color most of the time, and they are usually smaller than
largemouths. It is very tough and energetic for its size, and is of equal
food value to the LM Bass.

Warmouth:
Also called a Big Mouth Sun fish. It is dark olive green with coloring, and
sometimes has yellow markings. It is often confused with the rock Bass, and
the largest on record caught is 16 ounces. It has fair food value, and is
common in almost all fresh water fisheries.

Walleye:
This fish has one of the highest food values of all of the fish. It is very
common in rivers and some well known lakes. They are known to strike any
kind of lure, and are often confused with pike because of their teeth. They
are excellent fighting fish.

Perch:
They have a very good food value and are found in many Florida lakes. They
are magnificently colored, and is really a member of the seabass family.
They are decent fighters, and caught over 5 pounds. These are a very common
find in the south.

Bluegill:
Also called Brim, Bream and sunfish, this is one of the most common of all
freshwater fissh. They have decent food value, depending on size, the larger
the better. The color usually depends on the water conditions, and the
largest on record is over 6 pounds. These fish can also be used for Bass
bait.

Trout:
Largest on record is 63 pounds, and has excellent food value. In the sixties
it was the largest of all frsh water game fish, and after a brief fall, is
again today. It is usually gray and is not very rare.

Crappie:
Have been caught at sizes of 5 pounds, and are usually common in the south.
They are a usually small fish. Never getting over a pound most of the time.
They have big eyes, and are sometimes confused with bluegill. They will take
any kind of bait.

Spotted Bass:
This fish which has excellent food value, is also called the Kentucky Bass.
It has evenly distributed alternating rows of black spots, that's where it
got the name spotted Bass. It will hit almost any kind of lure, and is
commonly found in deep calm, quiet water.

Catfish=
Channel Cat:
This big fish is the larger of the two types of freshwater catfish. It is a
scavenger, as all the others are, but it is considered a very good eating
fish, and is usually fished for with a certain type of junky bait. These big
suckers put up one heck of a fight.

Blue Cat:
You will be able to tell the difference between this and the channel cat, by
the color, hence blue cat. It doesn't get quite as big as the channel, but
this monster still fights like a maniac. They are also considered very good
eating fish, even sometimes better than the channel cat.

Yellow Perch:
This fish which has excellent food value is a yellowish gold colored fish
found in most fresh waters. It isn't really a fighter, but has been known to
put up a struggle. Although it is a pretty small fish. It has black marks
that look like something oozing down the side of it.

Redear Sunfish:
No information could be obtained about this fish.

Tips From Roland Martin
=======================
" A lot of my mid day patterns involve shade and heavy cover in the form of
say, a boat dock, under lily pads, underneath an old willow tree. Where ever
you find shade and cover. I try to skip a jig or a worm and fish it slowly
in that fairly shallow water, but good cover. "

" I catch some of my biggest fish in the afternoon, particularly on topwater
lures. I like to use a buzz bait over the stumps and brush. I like to use a
regular propeller type or top water off the points, rock pile and even
around the boat docks, but I catch some of my biggest fish in the afternoon
on top water. "

" Now, I like to find and overcast day in the summer time, particularly with
the water temperatures, say 75 degrees. It's a great time to fish spinner
baits and top water plugs. "

"One little trick on a rainy day is to get into the back of these creeks and
try to find, particularly in clear water, muddy run off. There is always a
school of fish taking cover there. "

"When I'm faced with a clear sunny day, I pick up my flippin stick or my
plastic worm and head for some heavy cover. Trying to flip and pitch into
the shallow cover. "

Equipment
---------
Rods/Reels:
1. Quantam Spinreel1 - Good Accuracy and distance, is made more for light
tackle and lighter pounded line.

2. Quantam Baitcast1 - Excellent accuracy, but only fair distance, only for
12 pound line and up, well at least it is highly advised.

3. Quantam Spincast1 - Great distance, but only average accuracy.

f. Where and what to use.

Weed Beds/Rain - Try pulling a popping frog or a plug over the lilly pads,
this should draw fish to the surface. Or try a soft jerk bait and weave it
through all of the stems of the pads. Bass usually lurk in these areas
during the rain to feed.

Open Water/Rain - this is one of the harder places to fish, unless you know
the lake well. First try a deep diving crankbait, depending on how deep the
water is, and just see if theres anything there, and how active it is. If
nothing ven remotely hits, your going to have to go into smaller portions. I
would try a plug or a spinner bait, a very bright bait.

Rocks/Rain - When in a shallow area with lots of rocks, usually has weeds
to, I like to put a jig, or even a worm and just work my way around. If the
fish are plentiful and active, you may want to try to have some fun with a
top water plug.

Weeds/Sunny - If its still in the morning, but its clear, try a worm, and if
you don't get anything, try a top water plug, this should draw hungry fish
to the surface, then I would go with a crankbait. If it is late, hot after
noon, fish will usually be a bit more sluggish. So, you are going to have to
work a lot harder to draw them out. Try running a shallow crankbait through,
doing your best live minnow imitation. Also try putting a work right in
front of the fish, that should work to.

Open Water/Sunny - Well, if its moring, you have lots of options, first
though, I would skim the lake with a spinner or a crankbait, just to see if
anythign was going on. Then I ould switch over to more specific baits once
you locate the fish. If its late afternoon, and its hot, you are officially
in the worst place to be fishing. What you are going to have to is find the
deepest part of the lake and throw a deep crankbait and just do your best to
lure them up.
