The first aspect of this game that I will discuss is the
"Toy Box" feature. In this room you may notice that when you
hit "A" at the "?" doorway you see an empty room. As you
rescue a mushroom guard at the end of each world up until
world 8-4 where you will rescue Princess Peach/Toadstool,
each person will get added to this room. Each person has
their own function. For example one lets you print out
stickers of the various enemy sprites using the GameBoy
Printer, others have banners, bussiness cards, etc.
Finally the princess alows you to change the picture and
text that are displayed when you start up the game.
(Previously the "Super Mario Bros: Since 1985" logo.)
Also you can add music of your own to the start-up screen.
You do this by using the 3 music note symbols, and the
letters A through G. In conjunction with the up and down
arrow indicators which show how high or low the note is.
You can also make the note a sharp (#), and though I haven't
tested this yet I believe you can have a rest by using a period.
(.) Once you have your music made, you can hit start to hear
it. Also it will now play whenever you start up the game.
(For an example of what the music should look like consult your
game manual.)

Next there is the "Records" feature. This is a screen
that displays your high scores in the orginal SMBDX game.
You will notice that the top 3 scores have red numbers,
making them somewhat significant. Basically if you get a
score higher than 300 000 points. You open up 2 new
features in the game. These are the "Lost Levels" game,
and the "Race" minigame against a CPU controlled Boo
(ghost). These 2 new features are added to the main
screen in the form of a Luigi head (Lost Levels), and
a Ghost picture (Boo Race).

Now there is the "Album" feature. This is an area
comprised of 5 screens worth of pictures, that you earn
by completing various tasks. The 1st screen has 4
pictures of medals that you have earned. One is the
"Mario Award" which you earn when you complete the
original game (World 8-4) once. Second is the "Bowser
Award" which you earn when you complete the 2nd quest
of the original game. (aka: the Star Courses) Third
of all there is the "Yoshi Award" which you get by
completing the entire Lost Levels game. Fourth there
is the "Peach Award" which is earned once you earn all
3 types of medals in every level in the challenge mode.
(red coins, score, and Yoshi egg) Lastly there is the
"Toad Award" which is earned by getting enough points
in the challenge mode to fill the bar at the bottom
of the screen.

The second screen has 9 pictures of various events in
the game. The first is earned by getting fireworks at
the level goal. (flagpole) The second is earned by
finding a 1-up mushroom anywhere in the game. The third
is obtained by uncovering, and climbing a beanstalk
anywhere in the game. The fourth is received by playing
the VS mode with a friend. The fifth is found by
rescuing Princess Peach/Toadstool. The sixth is found
by trading your high scores list. The eighth is found
by getting the score medal on every level in the
challenge mode.
*I still need to find the other 2 pictures*

The third screen also has 9 pictures in it, but these are
of enemies that you have beaten. Basically you get all 9
by beating a Goomba, Blooper (octopus), Lakitu (Cloud
turtle), Cheep-cheep (Fish), Hammer Brother, Bullet Bill,
Koopa Troopa, Spiny, and Buzzy Beetle.

The fourth screen is one large picture made up of four
parts. You earn it by beating the first four Bowsers
*using fireballs.* (Those in worlds 1-4 through 4-4)

The fifth screen is another large picture made of four
parts. You earn this one though by beating the last
four Bowsers, also using fireballs. (Those in worlds
5-4 through 8-4)

Finally there is the Boo Race feature, these are 8
levels that pit you against Boo. Also you do not have
to start each of these levels in the form pictured.
(small, big, fire-mario) You can hit select to switch
between the three. Boo starts out as a white colour,
once you win against him he should turn a faster green
colour. If you beat him in all 8 courses then you can
try and beat the green Boo, to get it to change into a
faster pink colour. Finally if you can beat the pink
Boo badly, then you can race the black Boo, who is
very fast!
*I have beaten the black boo now in a few courses and
have not received anything for it. Maybe I need to
beat it badly enough, like the other colours of Boo
to receive a prize, like another picture in the
Album.*

Hints/Tricks

Using select you can switch between Mario/Luigi
before any level in the original game mode or the
lost levels game mode.
Also Select can be used before a Boo race as
mentioned above to change your form.
Also for some of the challenge levels, score
medals can be obtained MUCH easier by jumping on
a Koopa Troopa/Buzzy Beetle between two objects.
(eg: pipes) Once to stop him from moving
(100 points), and again to kick it (500 points).
The shell then rebounds off the wall and you can
jump on it again for another 600 points. Repeat
until time gets low or score is reached. Also in
the challenge mode extra lives count for 2000
points!

I have decided not to allow websites other than gamefaqs
(www.gamefaqs.com) to host my FAQs from now on. Please don't ask,
because I will not grant permission. It's just that too many sites
don't keep their version of my FAQ up to date which makes for a lot of
hassle in my mailbox. So if anyone sees this FAQ on any site other than
gamefaqs, please let me know and I will take care of the situation,
thanks.
