Hey Pokmon puzzle fans! Welcome to my 3rd FAQ! The U. S. version of
Pokmon de Panepon has finally been released, and I can now continue work on
the rest of the gameplay modes!
Anywho, by now you should know the history of Pokmon Puzzle Challenge.
A few years back, Nintendo released an amazingly addictive and fun puzzle game
called Tetris Attack for the SNES in the States. It was full of characters
from Yoshi's Island, but little did people know that the game was originally
full of faeries! That's right, the Japanese version, called Panel de Pon, was
full of cute little faeries instead of Yoshis. See, Nintendo realised that
the game would sell better if they included Yoshi and the name Tetris- both
established franchises in the States. Well, the second time around Nintendo
is using their most-recognized franchise of the time: Pokmon! This time,
however, even the Japanese didn't escape from Nintendo's cash-cow (though
their version is called Pokmon de Panepon). It was originally slated for the
U.S. as Pokmon Puzzle League, but recently Nintendo decided to change the
name to Pokmon Puzzle Challenge (which makes a lot of sense, since the GBC
version has very little to do with the whole Puzzle University thing from the
N64 game). Don't let the Pokmon characters detract from the gameplay (if
you're a Pokmon hater), since the game is still absolute fun anyway!
My main goal is to help you through the Puzzle Mode, but I will
eventually have stuff on the secrets and the rest of the modes. Be
forewarned, however, that I am not the best Tetris Atta... err, Pokmon Puzzle
Challenge player in the world, so strategies for stuff like the Challenge mode
will be practically non-existant until I get better.

First, let's start with the panels. There are 7 types of gameplay panels:

Triangle
Upside-Down Triangle
Diamond
Square
Star
Heart
Exclamation (These do not appear in every mode but serve a special purpose)

To clear panels, you must move panels so that 3 or more of the same type are
aligned either vertically or horizontally.

To use my Puzzle Mode FAQ properly, you'll have to know the layout of Pokmon
Puzzle Leagues's screen. The play area is composed of 36 squares, and is 6
squares wide by 9 squares high. The rows are labeled with numbers and the
columns with letters, as seen below:

  ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___
9| | | | | | |
 |___|___|___|___|___|___|
8| | | | | | |
 |___|___|___|___|___|___|
7| | | | | | |
 |___|___|___|___|___|___|
6| | | | | | |
 |___|___|___|___|___|___|
5| | | | | | |
 |___|___|___|___|___|___|
4| | | | | | |
 |___|___|___|___|___|___|
3| | | | | | |
 |___|___|___|___|___|___|
2| | | | | | |
 |___|___|___|___|___|___|
1| | | | | | |
 |___|___|___|___|___|___|
   A B C D E F

Now, when I say 1 DE, that means move the cursor so that it is in the row 1
and in columns D and E, then press the A button to switch the panels. Not too
hard to understand, right?

Each Puzzle Solution contains a Hint (the very same hint you get if you press
the Select Button), as well as the Solution itself. Naturally, if you only
want a push in the right direction, just use the hint. If you're a big huge
cheater or you're REALLY frustrated by a puzzle, then by all means go ahead
and use the solution! However, I must warn you that it's A LOT more
satisfying to figure out the puzzles yourself!

Blech, this section is a mess, but I'll eventually have it all cleaned up.

-------------
Tips & Tricks
-------------

1) If you're stuck on a puzzle (and don't want to use my Puzzle Solutions),
don't fret! Just stop trying and move on! Come back to it in a day or
two, when you'll have forgotten what you tried to do the last time and
     try new strategies!

-----------------
Codes and Secrets
-----------------

All of these Codes come directly from Nintendo.

-Disable Combo Pauses-
Normally, when you execute a Combo or a Skill Chain the blocks temporarily
stop rising. If you enter this code, the blocks will keep rising no matter
what you do! Turn on the game, and watch Pikachu. When Pikachu smiles, press
Left, A Button, B Button, Up. If you enter the code correctly, you'll hear a
confirmation sound.

-Increase Maximum Speed-
To increase the maximum speed level from 50 to 99 in Marathon Mode, enter this
code. Turn on the game, and watch Pikachu. When Pikachu smiles, press the B
Button, A Button, Left, Left. If you enter the code correctly, you'll hear a
confirmation sound.

-More Options-
Hold Select then press A in the Options screen

-More Records-
Hold Select then press A in the Records screen

-Super Hard Mode-
Move the cursor to Hard, then hold select and press A to play Super Hard.

Pokmon
-------

These all come from EAGB (check Credits section for url) and are ways to
"capture" some of the Pokmon. These are currently untested (for the most
part), so I'm not sure if they work.

Pikachu: When six panels are turned off at the same time (I've tried this on
Easy and it doesn't work. However, I was once challenged in Hard by the
Gentleman (who has Pikachu), but I'm not exactly sure of the requirements).
Pichu: When you've played for more than four minutes, and a stage is cleared.
Togepi: When ten panels are turned off at the same time.
Kireihana: When a stage is cleared within 25 seconds.
Mariru: When 4-chains are completed.
Otachi: When 7-chains are completed.

The following are approximate. They will be confirmed soon.

Igglybuff: Finish up to Star Round 6 to hatch Igglybuff's egg.

I'll have this info for you guys soon (if your definition of soon is a few
weeks).

Gameshark Codes
---------------

These Gameshark codes come directly from Interact at Gameshark.com

Stop Timer 91006BC8
Max Score 913F42C8
                        914243C8
                        910F44C8
Level Modifier 01XXFDDE Replace xx with: 01 thru 32
Game Speed Modifier 91XXA6CE Replace xx with: 00 (Doesn't Move At All)
                                                 thru 63 (Insanely Fast)

--------------------------------------------------
Pokmon Puzzle Challenge Vs. Pokmon Puzzle League
--------------------------------------------------

I don't yet have Pokmon Puzzle League, but I do know of some major
differences:

-No 3-D Mode in PPC.
-No Puzzle Editor in PPC.
-Panels have difference symbols.
-PPC features Gold/Silver Pokmon.

V 0.1-October 10, 2000- First release. Basic structure completed, but things
may look different once I add new sections. Main focus right now is on
the Puzzle Mode. Speaking of which, solutions for Stages 1-1 through
7-2 of the Puzzle Mode have been completed, as well as solutions for
     Extra Stages 1-1 through 1-10.

V 0.2-December 15, 2000- Sorry for the long wait, but I've been busy. I
finally completed Round 7-3 of the Puzzle Mode, and boy do I feel
sheepish. The most annoying thing about the Puzzle Mode is that the
solutions are always soooo easy.... once you know them, anyway. Speaking
of Puzzle Mode, Star Rounds 2-1 through 5-10 have been completed. I've
finished some of Star Round 6 as well. I've also added some info on some
of the other modes. ASCII art was changed to reflect the game's new
title. I've done a lot of housecleaning to improve the look of the FAQ,
     and I hope you enjoy!

Stuff Planned
     -Better Organization/Design
     -More Puzzle Mode Solutions
     -Details on the other modes
