0. INTRODUCTION
===============

-COMMENTARY-
Since the release of Dynasty Warriors 2 in the U.S, I've become
a real "BIG" Fan of the Three Kingdoms Period. The game grasped my
attention... the moment I saw the first few screen shots of it online.
Ironically, everytime I play the game and learn more about the
characters and their history... the more I regret falling asleep
back in highschool during my history lessons! I find it typical...
that it took a videogame to spark my interest, although I still find
those RTK Strategy games rather distasteful! For those of you who've
never played this game, you're in for a real treat...

STORY:

"The saying goes: Domains Under Heaven, after a long period of
division, will unite; after a long period of union will divide." For
more than six centuries these lines have announced the beginning of
Luo Guanzhong's The Romance Of the Three Kingdoms.

In the third century three warlords helped topple the Han Dynasty,
which had ruled China for four centuries. Strictly speaking, the Three
Kingdoms period is from 220 (the founding of the kingdom of Wei)
to 280 (the conquest of Wu). However, due to popular culture, most
people use it to describe the period between 184 (the start of the
Yellow Turban Rebellion) to 280. Its historical context was recorded in
the fourth century 'SAN-GUO-ZHI' History of the Three Kingdoms and
romanticised in the sixteenth century novel 'SAN-GUO-YAN-YI' The
Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Tales of the times have been popular
with Chinese for generations and to this day is an embodiment of
Chinese culture.

--Three Kingdoms Chronicle

Select from a total of "28" characters and help alter the course
of history. Whether you play as one of the "Five" Tiger Generals, or as
LU BU's mistress, or even as LU BU himself, you can change the outcome
of this Epic Saga. You are a solitary warrior, who will ultimately
determine how the "Three Kingdoms" become one. Succeed and you will be
immortalized in China's Annals. Fail, and you will be no more than an
insignificant soldier who participated in one of China's greatest
epics.

I. The ARTS Of WAR
==================

(A) BASIC ATTACKS & COMBOS
++++++++++++++++++++++++++

To face other warriors on the battlefield, you must know the basic
forms of combat. Which are the following:

Normal Attack
-------------

Each warrior's normal attack is different, but it is usually the
quickest one-hit attack available. From this attack, warriors can
go into various combos.

Double Attack
-------------

A quick two-hit combo, but you can't continue from here unless
you move on to a triple attack. Even slow warriors have a good chance
of landing it, but when using a fast warrior, the second hit almost
always lands.

Triple Attack
-------------

Here is where the differences between the fast and slow warriors
usually come into play. If you're surrounded and can't guard your
back, moving into a triple attack usually isn't a good idea. You
have other options. Only use the triple attack for linear attacks.
Even then it may be good to move on to a four hit attack combo.

Four Hit-Combo
--------------

Use a four hit attack combo against generals and other high-ranking
warriors. You can also use it to slash your way into the midst of
your opponents.

(B) JUGGLING & COMBO ATTACKS
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

To execute a combo, you must link at least two different attacks
to make the overall assault last longer. There are several ways to
do this. The easiest, most basic way to initiate a combo is by lifting
the enemy warrior off of the ground. You can do this with a lifting
charge attack, and then follow up with a normal combo of up to four
hits. If you knock down an opposing warrior, execute a normal attack
right away to juggle him on the ground.

You can do this with almost all of the characters. You can also
start a combo directly after a stunning charge attack. Immediately
after you finish a charge attack, follow up with a normal attack. You
might be able to get in a few extra hits, and with the faster warriors,
you'll be able to get in an eight-hit combo.

(C) ATTACK MOTIONS & RANGE
++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Each weapon in Dynasty Warriors 2 has different characteristics.
By learning those characteristics, you'll be better able to use
each warrior effectively.

Vertical Swing
--------------

The vertical swing - either upward from the feet or downward
from overhead - has three strong points. It works well against
mounted enemies by knocking them off their horses, making them
vulnerable. The vertical swing is also great when used against
characters that are already on the ground. You can juggle opponents
and do even more damage. It also works well on a slant. In the hilly
levels, warriors with a vertical swing have the advantage.

Horizontal Swing
----------------

The horizontal swing hits a wide range of enemies and, in most
cases, lets the warrior move in closer for another attack. When
attacking, the warrior's sides are guarded, unlike the vertical
swing. The horizontal swing is good when you are on the move and
don't have time to work your way around an entire group.

(D) CHARGE ATTACKS
++++++++++++++++++

A Charge Attack is a very "flashy" move usually used to scatter
or quickly dispatch the enemy! It has it's downsides however,
it doesn't inflict much damage (to strong or stronger generals),
it's very brief and it leaves you completely vulnerable to enemy
attack when it's finished! On the plus-side it can be woven into
almost any combo attack, thus making it a very valuable technique!

(E) MUSOU ATTACKS
+++++++++++++++++

A Musou Attack is the deadliset technique in a characters arsenal!
It's "flamboyant," and usually drains an enemies energy efficiently.
It can be used to scatter troops or back you in a 1-on-1 confrontation,
and like a Charge Attack it can be used in a combo! There are "3"
different types of Musou Attacks: NORMAL, JUGGLING, and REPELLING.
They vary among characters, some are better than others.

[NORMAL/STANDARD] MUSOU ATTACKS
-------------------------------

Normal Musou's are the standard type of Super Attacks... they are
good for 1-on-1 confrontations, but the only draw-back is that they
can easily be "countered" or interrupted by an enemy's "Musou Attack."
But they can be "MODIFIED" to perform like a Juggling Musou Attack when
you press; SQUARE, TRIANGLE. This juggles your character (momentarily).
You can capitalize on this by following up with your Musou Attack! The
only problem... is you're open to attack while you're waiting for your
target to fall, and if you're hit, sometimes you can miss your mark!

NOTE: The following characters use "NORMAL" Musou Attacks;
LIU BEI, SUN JIAN, SUN QUAN, ZHANG LIAO, SIMA YI, LU XUN,
LU MENG, SUN SHANG XIANG, DONG ZHUO, YUAN SHAO, ZHANG JIAO.

[JUGGLERS] MUSOU ATTACKS
------------------------

Juggling Musou's are by far the "BEST" they render your target
completely helpless! Leaving "NO" room for the enemy to counter or
interrupt your Musou with their own Musou Attack!

NOTE: The following characters use "JUGGLING" Musou Attacks;
ZHANG FEI, ZHAO YUN, HUANG ZHONG, ZHUGE LIANG, CAO CAO, DIAN WEI,
XIAHOU DUN, XIAHOU YUAN, ZHOU YU, GAN NING, DIAO CHAN.

[REPELLING] MUSOU ATTACKS
-------------------------

Repelling Musou's are the worst of the 3, the intensity of the 1st
blow strikes your opponent (or opponents) out of range! It's "BEST"
used when your character is bogged down or completely surrounded by
enemy troops! Like a NORMAL/STANDARD Musou, a REPELLING Musou can be
"MODIFIED" to perform like a Juggling Musou Attack when you press;
SQUARE, TRIANGLE. SEE: NORMAL/STANDARD for more details!

NOTE: The following characters use "REPELLING" Musou Attacks;
GUAN YU, MA CHAO, JIANG WEI, XU ZHU, TAISHI CI, LU BU.

(F) DUELING 1-on-1
++++++++++++++++++

This by far one the best features of the game because the gameplay
is fairly cooperative! The first step of mastering 1-on-1
confrontations is to know your characters abilities, as well as your
opponents (strong points & weakness), and use them to your advantage!
There are certain techniques regardless of any character's abilities
that are "UNIVERSAL!" Example: Any SQUARE, SQUARE, TRIANGLE technique
will render the opposing party in a dizzy stupor! Any SQURE, SQUARE,
SQUARE, TRIANGLE technique is generally the strongest Charge Technique.
Charging an Arrow will also leave your opponent listless! The "KEY" is
to concentrate on your position, technique, and above all else
"TIMING!" Rely on the basics and save the fancy stuff for sure kills!

Learn the Basics
----------------

1) Never let your defense down unless you're attacking.

2) Learn to read your adversary... even try to predict their next move.

3) Practice interrupting a character's normal moves.

4) When being overwhelmed by an opponent, use your counter!

5) Evasive manuevers, if a foe is opening up with a serious attack,
then dance out of range! Then dart back in while their guards
temporairly down and take advantage of the situation.

6) When you break the enemies guard, always follow-up with a combo,
musou, or a combo that ends with a charge or musou!

Become Advanced
---------------

1) Master interrupting the enemies Musou Attacks with your own. Which
is done in-between strikes!

2) Master locking blades, learn to time your strike with the enemies,
once your blades are locked use this opportunity to phyically over-
power your opponent, then attack them while they're open!

3) Never forget your supply of arrows, especially if you're low on
energy! Charge 1 to make your rival dizzy, or use your Musou to release
a barrage of them!

4)It behooves you to learn infinite combos, when push comes to shove &
you have exhausted your resources; power, arrows etc... then learning
to use infinte combos, which will save your ass in times of need!

(G) MOUNTED ATTACKS
+++++++++++++++++++

When you see a horse with no rider, you have the option to mount it.
If you decide to do so, you'll not only have better mobility, but
you'll also be above your enemies (which is to your advantage because
it makes it more difficult for the enemies to attack you). Be careful,
though; the enemies will try to jump and knock you off the horse. When
you get on a horse, your moves change. But you can still block while
you're on horseback. You'll only have three attacks, and your combos
will be limited, based on how well you steer your steed. Despite the
limitations, you'll see the good side to being on a horse as you
advance through the levels.

Bowling on Horseback
--------------------

While riding a horse, you can pick up speed and bowl your enemies
over, knocking them to the ground and doing a substantial amount of
damage. However, this is not always possible against an enemy of
superior power!

Your steed is designed to hit targets at specific angles. EXAMPLE:
If you bowl your enemy from the right then they will be repelled to the
right side, like-wise... left will propel thim to the left side. If
you hit the enemy dead on, then they will be projected foward.

NOTE: Always remember, a horse's ability to charge is directly
prorportional to the attack strength of the officer riding it.

TIP: Check VIII. TRICKS SECTION for a neat bowling tip.

Attacking on Horseback
----------------------

While on horseback, you have four different attacks to choose from:
bowling, normal, charge, and the Musou attack. All these attacks have
the same range, but the damage increases accordingly.

TIPS: When dueling an opponent on a mount, try to remember the
following.

1) Remember to guage your attack, learn your characters attack range!
They vary for certain characters... due to the nature of their weapons
(length, size, weight, style etc.) Always keep into consideration which
side is your sword-arm while attacking. The majority of fighters sword-
arms are on the right but some carry two weapons. If your enemy should
be on your left side when charging one another then this puts you at a
dis-advantage. This will force you to try and catch the enemy on the
2nd stroke (which covers the left side).

2) Standard Attacks atleast "1" to "2" seconds... before crossing paths
or when the horses are neck and neck! There are slight variations in
the timing, depending on the character ofcourse.

3) Charge Attacks should be performed at distance meaning atleast "2"
to "3" seconds before the horses cross paths! Which is efficient time
for you to prep your attack!

4) Musou Attacks should be done at very close quarters, atleast "1" to
"2" seconds... before crossing paths or when the horses are neck and
neck! There are slight variations in the timing, depending on the
character ofcourse.

5) If you miss during your initial charge, quickly swing back around.
If you're good (meaning fast enough) you can catch your quarry before
they can turn around themselves. If the situation happens to be vice-
versa, swing around but remain immobile then hold the (L1) button.

TIP: There are instantces when you may not be able to swing around in
time (for whatever reason), if this is the case remain completely still
while your opponent bears down upon your position. Once he or she is
close enough, press and hold your Musou Attack (CIRCLE)! This should
knock them out of the saddle if they come within range, don't forget to
use your map located on the right-hand side to monitor their approach.

Defending on Horseback
----------------------

TIPS: While mounted, always bear in mind that you're most vulnerable in
"3" particular areas;

1) From behind, it's hard to guard your back! The way to cut down your
chances of getting knocked from the saddle is to try a stay in constant
motion! Even while stationary (when holding the R1 button) you can turn
and move forward, backwards side to side etc... while cutting down the
opposition! Foot soldiers trying to jump up and knock you down will
have hard time doing so if you use evasive manuevers while at a trot!

2) Archers will more than likely be your main problem! They're almost
impossible to detect unless their in plain site, and they can snipe you
at any given time from any given direction! The remedy for this is
generally the same, stay in constant motion! This means they'll be
trying to lock onto your positon! At times you may even see projectiles
zip past you while you're in the heat of battle! Even at a dead run...
always remember to zig-zag when there are archers located to your rear!
They can still clip you from a good distance off... even while you're
retreating! Sometimes I'll locate their postion and just wipe them
out, this will save you alot of headache in the long-run.

3) When your Horse rears you are ripe for the pickings. There's nothing
you can do if your horse rears and your swamped by enemy fighters! My
only suggestion is to exercise caution, if you know you can't mow down
the enemy, which is predominatly subject to characters in "HARD MODE"
or someone of superior strength (like LU BU) then don't bother! In
"HARD MODE" a steed is almost useless... unless you simply need to
travel great distances in a hurry! You own personal guards are subject
to make your steed rear also, so it helps to monitor their position on
the map when under heavy fire. Lastly bear in mind that any enemy
fighter who happens to be on a mount is just as vulnerable if their
horse rears too.

NOTE: If you plan on traveling great distances it's best to stay within
the proximity of your own horse. When engaging enemy troops you may
have a tendancy to veer off from your steed... which usually disappears
after you've left it behind, depending on the distance you've moved
from it!

TIP: When on foot sometimes it can be difficult to battle an opponent
whose on horse-back. You have 2 options;

1) You can jump up and knock the rider off his mount, which is
basically the easiest way to handle the situation.

2) Or you can press SQUARE, TRIANGLE, your fighter will then strike...
followed by a Charged Attack in the form of an upward thrust, knocking
the rider off his mount! This can prove to be difficult because your
timing and position must be precise!

(H) SPECIAL ATTACKS
+++++++++++++++++++

Shooting Arrows
---------------

You can shoot arrows by holding the L1 button. Charge arrows by
pressing the X button while still holding the L1 button. To use a Musou
Attack apply the same concept but press the Circle button instead (hold
the Circle button get a more effective shot)!

TIP: Not many people realize this but you can move while shooting
arrows, simply hold R1 and L1 at the same time... this give you
mobility!

Dash Attack
-----------

You can use the dash attack when you are joining a fight in which
your allies desperately need assistance. It's not a good idea to use
this attack when you're alone.

NOTE: Some characters can use the dash attacks and follow them up with
a Musou Attack!

(I) DEFENSE
+++++++++++

Guarding and Counters
---------------------

When on the defensive, if any warrior attacks you from the front,
you'll block the attack. Once you block, you can do a quick counter,
which, with most warriors, will send the enemies in front of you to the
ground.

Locked in Combat
----------------

Your warrior becomes locked in combat if both you & another warrior
attack each other with the same force at the same time. It also happens
if you exchange numerous comparable-quality blows in succession. If you
become locked in combat, press any button as quickly as possible. If
you're quicker than the opponent, you'll force him back and he'll be
left wide open. If you're slower than the opponent, you will be wide
open, so be careful.

(J) ENGAGING the ENEMY
++++++++++++++++++++++

When you have only a few men with you it's difficult to engage a
group of enemy warriors and survive, especially in the higher-level
battles. Stay with the troops that are advancing to avoid being
surrounded and massacred. Once you have six or more bodyguards,
moving ahead will be easier.

If you see a small group of enemies approaching, you can switch to
your bow and hit the warrior in the lead. By knocking him down you will
delay his troops, they will not advance until he recovers. Exploit this
opportunity to your advantage, the same can be done when faced with
multiple groups of enemies; just switch back and forth among the
leaders.

You can do several things once the enemy units are upon you. If a
horde of them charge you, it might be smart to start with a Musou
attack to spread them out a bit. By the time you take out a group of
them, your Musou Charge Meter will be fully charged again. Also, if
you're using a warrior with a range of six or more, you can move toward
enemies as they approach and break them up with one of your swinging
attacks.

Always watch for enemy units who drop helpful items. Don't pass by
the Axe or Armor... in many situations, those items will save your
life. Also watch for Meat Buns. If your Life Meter gets too low,
don't hang around the battle... fall back and use your bow. It helps
you scan the area for items, you can rush in when you see a Meat Bun.

(K) MOBILITY on the BATTLE FIELD
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

You have a clear objective for each battle. However, as the battle
progresses, situations might arise in which you need to backtrack
to help other units. Example: During the battle of Hu Lao Gate, when
your commander is ambushed. In order to help quell this attack,
you need to get back to your command fast. If you run through enemy
units, you normally come out on the other side pretty well off, but
it's smarter to find a horse so you can get there faster. If you run
the whole way you might be too late.

Keeping Track of Units on Your Maps
-----------------------------------

A quick way to see how much progress the other generals made is
to switch to the main map. Here you'll be able to find the location
of other major leaders in the battle, whether friend or foe. Re-asses
your strategy to make it through the level with minimum casualties.

As a quick reference, you can use the small map in the top right
corner of the screen. Each red dot represents a single enemy unit.
Bright red dots represent a general or some other type of leader.
Blue dots represent your troops, and light blue dots are your leaders.
Flashing yellow dots indicate where battles are taking place.
Be careful not to let the enemy forces push back your forces...
that could spell the end of the battle.

You can toggle the map on the top right of your screen to show a
zoomed-in view of your surrounding area. On the zoomed-in map, it's
easier to see how many enemy units are approaching and the different
paths you can take. With every major occurrence in the game, you are
automatically switched to the zoomed-out version of the map, which
shows you where the event is happening.

Messages
--------

You'll receive messages across your screen during each battle.
These messages help tell you what's going on in the battle. You'll
find out about morale, advancements, and other battles that are raging
on the map. In a heated battle, you might not be able to read all of
the messages sent, because you only can see three or four at a time in
the review area, so try to catch as many of them as possible when they
first arrive.

II. MUSOU MODE & FREE MODE
==========================

(A) Musou Mode
--------------

Musou mode is the story mode. In Musou mode, you progress through
five battles, all of which have something to do with the warrior or
kingdom that you are fighting for. Progress is quickest in this mode,
so you don't have much time to mess around. You need to win each battle
quickly. Always be aware of your commander; if he dies, you'll have to
begin again, and that's not fun.

While in Musou mode, you can't go back and replay another level,
and you can't change to another warrior in the middle of a series of
battles. Once you get far along in Musou mode, you won't want to
start with another character anyway, because the first character's
achievements will be lost. Fortunately, the character will still keep
his or her advancements in strength.

Make sure you understand the role of your warrior in each battle.
If you're trying to prevent enemy troops from getting through, be sure
that's what you focus on so you don't get in trouble with your
commander... and remember: you don't want to let him die. If he does,
the battle will end.

(B) Free Mode
-------------

In Free mode, you have more options. You can play any map you've
reached in Musou mode. When you start the game, the first two battles
will be unlocked. These are the battles that every warrior fights in.
You can't use other maps until you get to the third battle with a
warrior in Musou mode. Each kingdom has its own battles to fight; when
you reach a new battle, you unlock it.

In Free mode you don't have to fight in any order, and you can fight
the same battle several times. You can fight each battle in different
ways, and doing so lets you test the different paths you can take.
Experiment with several warriors in Free mode so you can see what it's
like to start in different positions.

III. The "THREE KINGDOMS"
=========================

-COMMENTARY-
The character Bio's vary in order & in length due to the significance
or popularity of each individual character. Since no one else has done
this in their own DW2 FAQ, I've taken the liberty of naming "ALL" the
character's Counters, Charges, Musou Attacks, and Combos... based upon
the nature and appearance of their moves. Hell, I couldn't resist using
a little creative embellishment. All techniques are presented in the
order of effectiveness and power, first to last. The 1st combo being
the weakest and the last being strongest!

(A) SHU KINGDOM; "Western Kingdom" Historical Insignia: GREEN
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

-COMMENTARY-

SHU: Situated in isolated Xichuan, Shu had always been an outpost of
regional power. During the Warring States it had been an independent
power and later during Wang Mang's rebellion, was one of the rebels'
last strongholds. The Kingdom of Shu stretched from Hanzhong in the
north, to Yongchang in the far south, where semi independent Thai
tribes roamed. It was centred on the province of Yi.

The capital Chengdu was strategically in the fertile Xichuan plain
and watered by the ancient irrigation systems from the Min River. This
system enabled the capital to boast the most intense agarian population
in China. Its walls were slighty smaller than that of Luoyang but it
nevertheless had a population of 300,000, supported in part by the
extensive trade it controlled through its waterways to the Yangzi. The
city's name in antiquity was Shu (hence the name of the region) and in
the Three Kingdoms it was also known as Yizhou.

Having the smallest area and population of the Three Kingdoms, it is
no wonder that Shu was the first to capitulate to the north. It had an
population of only 940,000 and an army of just above 100,000. However
it did hold out for a long period by virtue of its mountainous terrain,
flanked in the north by five strategic passes, in the east by the
Gorges of Yangzi River and in the west by the start of the Himalayas.

--Three Kingdoms Chronicle.

Feedback: The Shu kingdom was founded by Liu Bei... with his brothers
in arms, Guan Yu & Zhang Fei. They gathered many great men around them,
including the legendary Prime Minister Zhuge Liang. United in their
dream to restore the later Han Dynasty to power, this small kingdom
holds its own against the much larger kingdoms of Wei & Wu. Most
members of the Shu Kingdom use long range techniques, specializing with
poles; spears, halbreds, tridents etc.

LIU BEI: Style; (XUANDE)
Born in: Zhwo 161
Died in: BaiDiCheng 221-222 AD

Considered to be the most virtuous ruler in the entire story.
Liu Bei was a sworn brother of Guan Yu and Zhang Fei, as well as the
uncle of Emperor Xian, earning him the title of Imperial Uncle. After
the Yellow Turban Rebels were destroyed, he helped LU BU when he was
fleeing from Cao Cao, however LU BU later back stabbed Liu Bei by
rebelling against him. After his defeat, he was forced to flee to Yuan
Shao, but after Yuan Shao died, he left and reunited with his brothers.
Eventually, He persuaded Zhuge Liang to become his Advisor.

After many defeats by Cao Cao, Liu Bei went south to Sun Quan.
There he and Zhuge Liang helped Zhou Yu defeat Cao Cao at the Battle at
Redwall. Under Zhuge Liang's guidance he gathered many talented men,
such as 3 of the Five Tiger Generals; Huang Zhong, Zhao Yun, & Ma Chao.
With Zhuge Liang, his two brothers, and Zhao Yun, they conquered the
west and there Liu Bei became the first emperor of the Shu Han Dynasty.
A charismatic and humble fellow, Liu Bei was very popular among the
Chinese during his time, and Cao Cao considered him a "True Hero,"
despite being enemies. After Guan and Zhang's death, he went on a
massive vengeance counter attack, but due to incompetance and lack of
knowledge pertaining to the Arts Of War he was beaten by Lu Xun of Wu.
Liu Bei died of exhaustion and depression at the age of 55.

Liu is quite an average warrior, he has medium reach, limited
defense and power. Nonetheless, he's not to be underestimated. He
performs combos quite easily, due to the large steps he takes when
advancing! His style of fighting is quite common in this game, they are
identical to; Sun Jian, Sun Quan, Sima Yi, Dong Zhuo, Yuan Shao and
Zhang Jiao. Koei did an excellent job on Liu, except historically
Xuande's character is supposed to use two swords (like Lu Xun) instead
of one!

ZHUGE LIANG: Style; (KONGMING) [SLEEPING DRAGON]
Born in: 181
Died in: 234 AD

   One of world's greatest strategist, who managed to outwit everyone;
his plots and traps were effective and decisive. Zhuge Liang was the
master-mind behind splitting China into 3 kingdoms. Formerly a recluse,
he joined Liu Bei's entourage when Liu Bei pledged his utmost sincerity
and eagerness. Liang was Liu Bei's chief advisor and eventually became
the prime minister of Shu Han. He ran six northern campaigns against
Wei. In the midst of his sixth campaign, Zhuge Liang died of illness;
stress and malnurishment in the year 234 at the age of 54.

Zhuge Liang has the shortest reach & life meter in the game. However
his high defensive skills somewhat compensate for this, but not
entirely! On foot this guy's a real push-over, but on a steed... he's
poetry in motion! Liang is one of the best fighter on a mount, the
nature of his fans give him a steep advantage! This character can be
manipuated by newbies and veterans alike. Since Liang is rather weak
compared to the other fighters its best to access the situation before
jumping into the heat of battle! Kongming is also more dependant upon
his guards as opposed to most fighters. When using him in 1-on-1
situations, I suggest relying on juggling and counters! Personally I
think he's a waste of time in the field, and would only recommend him
to "DIE-HARD FANS"!

The Sleeping Dragon (including Liu Bei, Cao Cao, Sun Quan, Sima Yi,
Zhou Yu and Lu Xun) are the main reason why I believe this game should
have more planning and strategic elements (like Kessen)! I truly hope
that in the future KOEI implements features where the player has
complete autonomy over their armies. The ability to issue orders and
commands (and have the CPU's soldiers respond accordingly to your
troops), this would add more depth & flavor to game! Almost like...
simulated warfare, but with "MORE" replay value!

GUAN YU: Style; (YUNCHANG)
Born in: HerDong 161
Died in: JyuehSs Oct 219 AD

Also known as Lord Guan or Guan the Noble. Yu was one of the most
feared and respected Generals in all of China. He, Liu Bei, and Zhang
Fei swore an oath of brotherhood and promised to fight the rebels,
rule with virtue, and restore the Han Dynasty. He furnished the famous
weapon called the "Black Dragon," and rode LU BU'S famous steed,
"Red Hare." After Liu Bei's defeat at Xu Chou, Liu Bei fled to Yuan
Shao, and Guan Yu was forced to join Cao Cao under certain
circumstances. The brothers were reunited and Guan Yu served him until
Liu Bei finally became the Emperor of Shu. He was the first of the Five
Tiger Generals, and Governor of Jingzhou. He was captured by Lu Meng
during the Battle at Yi Ling, both he and his son Guan Ping were
executed by Sun Quan of Wu. Guan Yu's spirit haunted Lu Meng to death.
Guan Yu also killed Yan Liang, Wen Chou, Pang De, Hua Xiong, some of
the most distinguished and bravest officers.

Today, Guan Yu is known as the "GOD Of WAR", chinese worship Guan Yu
not because of his might and honor, but because of his loyalty to his
sworn brothers. Guan was captured by Cao Cao once but when Yu found out
where his elder brother "Liu Bei" was, he crossed 5 gates and killed 6
generals to reach him. There many are statues of Guan Yu in Hong Kong
police stations, restaurants, and temples of worship. The Triads also
worship Guan Yu before they actually become members, swearing
"brotherhood" to each other, helping each other and NOT betraying one
another!

On the whole Guan Yu is a solid fighter, he's quite effecient both
offensively and defensively. The weight of Yu's weapon slows down his
attacks, but his power compensates for this. Yu's biggest weakness is
the inability to cover his back. His Musou Attack "BREATH Of FIRE"
repels opponents... it would be wise to juggle the enemy first (SQUARE,
TRIANGLE). This way you inflict more damage and can guage when to
peform the move, so you can finish your adversary off! Otherwise your
opponent especially a high ranking general or commander, will have a
better opportunity to replenish their energy if you simply knock them
out of range, hindering your chances of finishing them!

NOTE: Refer to IV. The SYSTEM for detailed info.

ZHANG FEI: Style; (YIDE)
Born in: Zhwo 167
Died in: LangZhong Pass 221 AD

His nickname was Flying Virtue. He swore an oath of brotherhood to
Liu Bei and Guan Yu and promised to fight for the good of the people
and rule virtuously. Fei fought long and hard with his brothers and was
one of the most feared Generals ever. Zhang Fei was however bad
tempered and a drunkard. Only Ma Chao and LU BU were able to hold their
own in a fight against him.

Once when Liu Bei was fleeing to Liu Biao, Cao Cao's army came
behind them and Zhang Fei rode up to them alone challenging them
to a duel. None dared to fight him and the entire army turned back.
When Guan Yu was with Cao Cao, Guan Yu told all of Cao Cao's officers
to write on their sleeves, "Beware of Zhang Fei." He became one of the
Five Tiger Generals but was assassinated soon after his brother Guan
was captured and killed. Fei's drinking and the abuse of his men
ultimately led to his downfall. Two of his officers who he'd previously
tied up an beaten, plotted to assasinate him while he slept after a
long night of drinking. Fei's head was taken to Sun Quan... which
further instigated the war between the Shu and Wu Kingdoms! The last
remaining brother "Liu Bei" deeply mounred Zhang's death!

Zhang Fei is one of the strongest fighters in the game... but like
his elder brothers he has no way of guarding his back. What he lacks in
speed, he makes up for with sheer strength! Also, when on foot he's one
the best fighters to challenge opponents that are on horse-back! Zhang
Fei's Musou Attack "POISON STEEL," juggles opponents... and inflicts
heavy damage, the arc at which he swings his spear can quite literally
dispatch any rider! Fei is definitely one of my all time favorites! His
talent rivals that of Dian Wei and even the mighty LU BU!

ZHAO YUN: Style; (ZILONG)
Born in: 158 AD
Died in: 228 AD

Known as the Dragon child. He saved Gongsun Zan from Wen Chou and
became an officer under Gongsun. After Gongsun Zans defeat by Yuan
Shao, Zhao Yun turned his allegiance to Liu Bei. He served Liu Bei
loyally and was a very feared warrior. Yun also saved the infant Liu
Chan (Liu Bei's son) from enemies by dashing into enemy army alone and
fighting his way through on horseback. Later Zhao Zilong found out Cai
Mao was going to assassinate Liu Bei and saved him.

Yun was Zhuge Liang's favorite General because he was cautious and
brave. He once fought a duel against Xiahou Dun and his very banners
alone scared Cao Cao away from seizing a city. He assisted Zhuge Liang
on the Northern Campaigns and became one of the Five Tiger Generals.
After Liu Bei passing Yun became the Pillar of the State. Liang relied
upon Zilong through several critical campaigns after the deaths of Liu
Bei, Guan Yu, Zhang Fei & Huang Zhong! One day a violent gust of wind
from the north-east blew down a pine tree. Zhuge Liang made a remark
about the significance of the particular event; "This portends the fall
of a great general." Moments later Zhao Tong, and Zhao Guang (Zhao Yuns
two sons) presented themselves before the Prime Minister. Upon seeing
them Kongming wept saying "We have lost Zhao Zilong!" Tearfully Liang
went on; "In Zilong the Dynasty had a pillar; and I my right arm!" All
the assembled commanders wept. Yun died of illness he was 80 years
old... a temple was built in his memory and he was buried with full
honors.

Another one of my favorite characters, why... because his style
(primarily combos) is not the easiest to master! Yun's spear has one
of the broadest strokes in the game which protects him on "ALL" sides,
rivaling the legendary LU BU's halberd! The down-side is that some of
his combos are quite difficult to link because of the way he levels his
weapon. This shouldn't discourage veterans, but newbies may tend to get
frustrated from time to time. His Musou Attack "SWORD-FISH TECHNIQUE"
is in alot of respects similar to LU BU's except he spins with it,
unlike LU BU who jumps while twirling his halberd! The arc at which
Zhao Yun swings it is perfect for knocking down mounted opponents!
Lastly he is also one of the few fighters that can link a chain combo
after intiating a counter.

HUANG ZHONG: Style; (HANSHENG)
Born in: NanYang 147
Died in: ShiaoTing 222 AD

Huang Zhong was a magnificent man, tall and straight with a beard
of flowing silver. He received his reputation as a mighty warrior
only late in life. At sixty, he was still able to bend the three
hundred catty bow and was a perfect archer. His skill was so great,
that he was said to be able to pierce a willow leaf at a hundred paces.
Huang Zhong was a famous archer and warrior.

Originally, he served under Liu Biao and then Han Xuan, but turned
his allegiance to Liu Bei after the fight with Guan Yu. For his deeds
of valor, he was appointed to one of the Five Tiger Generals of Shu.
He was very active under Liu Bei, fighting in the west and subduing
the barbarians of Western China. But he is generally remembered for
the coaxing the general in charge of defense "Xiahou Yuan" out to
fight. Huang waited till his opponents guard was down... then he chased
the unarmed Wei general and cut the man in two!!!!!

Zhong is very strong & his age does not affect his fighting skill!
He advances very quickly when attacking, but his strength is limited
by the reach of his sword! He's also another warrior that can link a
chain combo after intiating a counter. Lastly, his power and accuracy
with a bow is unsurpassed, only LU BU comes close! Huang does nearly
twice the damage of any other warrior! He uses the same style as Xiahou
Yuan and Gan Ning!

MA CHAO: Style; (MENGQI)
Born in: 176 AD
Died in: 225 AD

The oldest son of Ma Teng, this man is truly reminscent of LU BU!
He was often compared to the latter. After Cao Cao killed his father
and brother, he and his fathers friend "Pang De" attacked Cao Cao and
almost killed him, but Xu Zhu rescued the Prime Minister. Eventually
Pang De defected and joined Cao Cao, with the odds staked against him
Ma Chao was forced to retreat. Later on... fate played Chao against
the Shu Kingdom. Zhuge Liang sent Zhang Fei to do battle with the
rebel, yet they were both impressed by each other's strength and
courage, neither could prevail against the other. Zhuge Liang was able
to convince Chao to join their righteous cause. Allied with the Shu
Kingdom Ma Chao became a famous hero under Liu Bei and one of the
prestigious Five Tiger Generals.

Because of the way Ma Chao holds his Trident it has a much shorter
range. Furthermore he swings it overhead... so his attack range is not
broad as it could be! His attacks don't inflict much damage, but they
do spread out enemies, by knocking them far and wide. This enables you
to single out key adversaries! Honestly, I don't believe KOEI did Ma
Chao's character justice in the game. Chao's a very abstract fighter...
his moves can be difficult to set up, which is truly frustrating. I'd
reccomend him to veteran players. "Newbies" should get more experience
with the other clientele before experimenting with this guy.

JIANG WEI: Style; (BOYUE)
Born in: 201
Died in: 264AD

He was an excellent general with skills rivaling those of Zhao Yun's
and intelligence rivaling that of Zhuge Liang! He became a general
towards the final days of the Shu Kingdoms existence. After Zhuge Liang
died, he turned over all his forces to Jiang Wei. Jiang Wei continued
the Northern Campaigns but failed. He defended the Shu Kingdom for some
time using wise strategies against Deng Ai and killed Guo Huai in a
duel. Although he was an active participant in the northern campaigns
he couldn't keep the territories after Zhuge Liang's untimely death. He
joined the Wei force after Shu fell. With the help of Xiahou Ba, they
defended the country but exhausted their strength and it fell to Deng
Ai. Later, he surrendered to Zhong Hui, he helped Hui devise a revolt
against Sima Zhao but it proved useless. Jiang Wei committed suicide,
by cutting his throat... he was 59.

Because of his arc, Wei is very good at fighting against mounted
enemies. His reach also plays a key factor, it's long enough that he
can still do considerable damage from a distance. His moves are
identical to Mao Chao's, which means he's also an abstract fighter...
the only difference between the two are the way they hold the trident!
Their moves can be quite difficult to set up, "Newbies" should get more
experience with other clientele before experimenting with him.

(B) WEI KINGDOM; "Northern Kingdom" Historical Insignia: BLUE
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

-COMMENTARY-

WEI: Based on the Imperial traditions and government structures at the
Han capital, the kingdom of Wei was the most cosmopolitan of the three
kingdoms, and accumulated considerable wealth. It was based in the
Central Plain and the Yellow River, the heartland of Chinese
civilization at the time, but its centralized authority also stretched
in the east to Lelang colony in Korea and west to Gua (Dunhuang) in
Gansu. Wei controlled the provinces of Si, Yu, Yan, Qing, Xu, Liang,
Yong, Ji, You, Bing, and the northern parts of Jing and Yang.

The capital of Xuchang boasted many fabulous palaces and temples,
where the Cao lineage of rulers found amusement. Later, after the
political situation stabilised, the capital was moved to Luoyang, whose
walls enclosed over ten kilometres. At night, twelve gates controlled
access to the 400,000 inhabitants within its boundaries. Although the
disruptions of 190 had caused major damage to the city's buildings,
many of the libraries, temples and palaces were rebuilt.

The population of Wei was the largest, with roughly 60% living
within its borders. It had 660,000 households living within its
borders, with approximately 4,400,000 residents and a standing army of
330,000. Its terrain was typical of Northern China, with open hills and
flat grassland being the norm. The weather was drier and colder than
that of the southern kingdoms, making it suitable for cavalry.

--Three Kingdoms Chronicle

Feedback: Wei is the large area of Northern China ruled by the
legendary Cao Cao, fueled by ambitious rulers, intent on uniting China
under one rule. Cao Cao built up an impressive army by gathering the
best fighters in China. Of the 3 warring states, his was the closest to
realizing the dream of unification. You'll find that the majority of
the Wei characters use eccentric weapons, that utilize short and mid
range techniques; axes, maces, swords, spears, etc.

CAO CAO: Style; (MENGDE)
Born in: Jiao 155
Died in: 220 AD

Cao Cao was a very devious man by nature. Out of all the "warlords"
he was the most ambitious, intelligent and shrewd of tacticians. I'd
put him in league with Zhou Yu (Supreme Commander Of Wu), both were
overly familiar with the Arts Of War and military protocol. Mengde was
also quite arrogant to those he percieved to be inferior to himself,
and he surrounded himself only by men of talent; strategists and those
of the warrior class. Each group acted as his right and left hands by
aiding his conquest to secure and maintain control over the northern
territory of China!

Once an officer under Dong Zhuo's command, Cao tried to assassinate
Dong and failed! He fled... fearing for his life but was eventually
apprehended. Yet, a district official named Chen Gong saved him.
Chen considered Cao Cao to be a righteous man and instead of having him
sent to Dong Zhuo for execution, he chose to flee with him instead!
After the two parted company, Cao joined the Allied Forces against Dong
Zhuo as a General. Soon after Dong Zhuo's death, he recruited the
remnants of the Yellow Turban Rebels into his army and became very
powerful. He served as Prime Minister under Emperor Xian, when in truth
Cao Cao was emperor all but in name. Successful in the north, Cao Cao
often recruited his former rivals in his campaigns, and often persuaded
men of great talent to serve him. He destroyed LU BU, Yuan Shao, Ma
Teng, and many other rulers. He fought Liu Bei several times, and was
even able to recruit Guan Yu, an archenemy of his, but only for a short
while.

Although Mengde conquered the northern half of China his forces met
a crushing defeat at the Battle of Redwall, when he tried to invade the
south. Later Cao met another defeat at the Battle of Yi Ling (A three
way war between him, Sun Quan, and Liu Bei) but these defeats did not
harm his superior hold on the northern half of China. He died from a
brain tumor (210 AD) at the age 66 years. His son Cao Pi succeeded him
as the King of Wei, and later forced the Emperor to abdicate.

It's the villain you love to hate, yet Mengde is another one of my
personal favorites! The "1st King" Of Wei has a truly unique fighting
style! His combination of strength and defense makes him a very
formidable opponent. Cao Cao is stronger and more effective sword
fighter than many of the other warriors, he also starts off with 6
personal body guards! Now, here's the real skinny on Cao Cao, there are
no other characters in the game with his particular form of sword play,
so he tends to stand out from the other sword users! His Musou Attack
"SCREAMING PHOENIX" is lethal at close quarters and is a juggler to
boot! The only down-side is that the nature of his Musou Attack is
somewhat abstract... at times it may feel hard to maintain juggling
your opponent. On a positive note Cao is one of the few characters that
can link a chain combo after initiating a counter.

DIAN WEI: Style; (?)
Born in: ChenLiu 159
Died in: ShianTseng 197? AD

One of Cao Cao's first officers. He was a man of tremendous strength
and was feared by every one. He dueled against Xu Huang who eventually
joined Cao Cao. However, Dian Wei's life was short lived when he was
killed while trying to protect his Lord during a fight against LU BU.
Cao Cao mourned his death more than the death of his eldest son Cao Ang
who was also killed in the same battle.

This guy is really popular with DW2 Fans, Dian is by far one of the
strongest in the game! His battle Axe allows him to mow through enemy
units with little or no resistance. Wei's power is comparable to Zhang
Fei's, and falls slightly shy of the mighty LU BU! The down-side is he
can't cover his rear, but his Musou Attack "IRON REAVER" juggles
enemies, which is an added bonus! If you're looking for a real solid
fighter, who's generally player friendly (easy for newbies), then this
is the man to use! There's not much else to say about him, except that
Dian's phenomenal at clearing enemy troops and 1-on-1 combat! There are
very few warriors that can hold their own against him!

XIAHOU DUN: Style; (YUANRANG)
Born in: 156
Died in: 225 AD

One of Cao Cao's first Generals, he recommended Dian Wei. During the
fight against Lu Bu, he was shot in the left eye. He pulled out the
arrow with the eye still on it and said, "Essence from my father, blood
of my mother, I can not throw this away," and he swallowed it. He was a
famous warrior and probably Cao Cao's bravest and loyal. Xiahou Dun
fought in wars all around China and died of old age soon after Cao Cao.
Xiahou Dun never reached his full potential, since Cao Cao didn't rely
on him too often. Sadly he passed away, after paying a house call while
Cao Cao was ill... he feinted and was immediately rushed to his
quarters, Cao died soon after.

Xiahou Dun uses a broad sword, yet the head of his blade is
noticebly wider than the shaft! It has a much wider area of attack
than the average sword used by other characters. You can use it to
defend yourself from the front & sides. He's a serious power house...
but Dun's broad sword hinders him from effectively guarding his rear!
His blade is similar to Zhou Yu's... except his is much heavier and
causes significantly more damage! Even his Musou Attack is similar to
Zhou Yu's except he uses two hands while Zhou relies on one! What I
find rather astonishing is the speed at whick Dun wields it, despite
its immense weight! This guy is an above average fighter, I'd say
he's in league with Gan Ning or perhaps even Guan Yu!

XIAHOU YUAN: Style; (?)
Born in: 157
Died in: ??? AD

Yuan was a trusted officer of Cao Cao. An efficient archer-one of
the best of his time. He was spirited, bold and just as active as
Xiahou Dun! After Cao Cao established the northern territories, Xiahou
Yuan was deployed as the major general on the western frontline, and
entrusted with the command of the defence. Yuan was an accomplished
warrior but did not possess the brilliance of a true tactician. When
Huang Zhong, aided by Fa Zheng approached HanZhong, Cao Cao ordered his
cousin to personally command the defenses while he remained in reserve.
Huang Zhong sought Fa Zheng's advice and their strategies focused on
taunting and coaxing the aggressive Xiahou Yuan.

Yuan and his troops tired from hours of unanswered challenges and
grew lax, Fa Zheng orchestrated the Shu to attack. Huang Zhong charged
straight at a weary and defenseless Xiahou Yuan, Xiahou spotted Zhong
but it was too late. Xiahou Yuan was decapitated from the shoulders by
the Shu General. When Cao Cao learned of his cousins demise he grieved
deeply. Cao swore revenge against Zhong but his goal was never
achieved!

Xiahou Yuan is a large man, but not as strong as he appears.
Although his attacks are somewhat weak compared to others, they are
quick and difficult for enemies to counter once set into motion! Yuan's
also another general that can link a chain combo after intiating a
counter. His moves are identical to Huang Zhong and Gan Ning's!

ZHANG LIAO: Style; (?)
Born in: 168
Died in: ??? AD River Huai

He once served LU BU, after LU BU's defeat he wanted death but Guan
Yu wanted to vouch his own life to save Zhang Liao's. Cao Cao was truly
impressed with Zhang Liao's demeanor, so he recruited him into his
army. Liao was known for having held back the forces of the Wu Kingdom
many times. In one particular battle Zhang held off the Wu force of
approximately 10,000 with only 800 men. It was said that when he
fought... it were as if he was possessed by demons! Zhang fought in
many wars around China and also invaded Sun Quan's territory where he
killed the warrior Taishi Ci. His name became so feared in Wu that
children could be made to stop crying by the mention of his name.
During the golden years of his military career, Ding Feng shot an arrow
and wounded Liao while he was attempting to rescue Cao Pi (Cao Cao's
eldest son)! Zhang Liao returned to Xuchang where he later succumbed to
his open wound. Cao Pi buried him with honors. Of this no more need be
said.

Zhang Liao is one of the few warriors who can defend his back. Liao
has an extremely long reach and good strength. The downside is that
he's rather slow. I've noticed that not many people seem to care for
him, but I think he's fairly decent! Zhang's at his best upclose and
since he's rather sluggish compared to the majority, he's a better
defensive fighter than offensive! Liao also has some pretty intense
combos, which if used appropriately can fell the best of enemy's!
Here's yet another fellow that can link a chain combo after intiating
a counter. His moves are also identical with Lu Meng's but they use
different weapons. Actually his spear is the same weapon Guan Yu uses
(Green Dragon Blade) or (Black Dragon)!

XU ZHU: Style; (ZHONGKANG)
Born in: Jiao 169
Died in: 240 AD

He was once a Yellow Turban Rebel but joined Cao Cao when he was
defeated by him. He was active in the Battle of Redwall and saved Cao
Cao's life on many occasions. During the fight against Lu Bu when a
flaming pillar almost crushed Cao Cao, when Huang Gai almost killed
Cao Cao the Redwall, and when Ma Chao attacked the capital. Xu Zhu
became leader of the Tiger Corps and was nicknamed "Crazy Tiger" for
his exceptional exploits. He was destroyed Yuan Shu.

This guy is very, very, strong... he's one of the hardest hitters in
the game! Xhu's also very good defensively but he's a slow fighter.
This largely negates his advantages, so you'll have to be careful when
attacking. His lack of speed and vulnerability from behind, is his true
weakness. Since he's so slow his moves can be easily interrupted too.
A helpful tactic, is to use his "FINAL IMPACT" technique, this should
give him some room to manuever when surrounded by enemy troops or
overwhelmed by a superior opponent! Lastly, his Musou Attack repels
enemies, the key to using it effectively, is to cause a considerable
amount of damage first. Try juggling your opponent (SQUARE, TRIANGLE),
while their airborne perform his Musou Attack "STUNNING MACE"...
they'll usually hover a foot off the ground while you're literally
pulverizing them!

TIP: When facing strong fighters like LU BU, Guan Yu or Zhang Fei, use
his repeling combos; Final Impact & Full Iron Impact! The latter combo
does extensive damage!

SIMA YI: Style; (ZHONGDA)
Born in: ???
Died in: ???

The greatest tactician of Wei, Sima Yi was Zhuge Liang's chief rival
during the Shu-Wei campaigns. The infamous Wei strategist consistently
turned back Zhuge Liang's Northern Campaign! He was a very wise man and
the only strategist who could hold his own against Liang. Kongming had
Yi mixed up in a plot of rebellion, which got Sima Yi dismissed from
office. After the Wei Kingdom met several defeats from the hands of the
crafty Zhuge Liang, Cao Rui restored Sima Yi back to power. Sima Yi
successfully defended the Wei Kingdom from Zhuge Liangs Northern
Campaigns. When Zhuge Liang died, Yi attacked the Shu camps but saw
Zhuge Liang sitting on top of his carriage which frightened Sima Yi. He
later found out that it was only a wooden carving of the dead leader.
He and his successors eventually usurped the power of Wei; Sima Yen
finally overthrew Wei and united China at the end of the Three Kingdoms
period.

Sima Yi's weapon is quite similar to Liu Bei's except Yi supposedly
has a higher level of attack & defense, but his life meter is shorter.
When using him, avoid fighting in the center of group. It's best to
wait for back up, then concentrate on the Unit Captains and Generals,
while your men attend to the masses. I "HATE" this dude, out of all the
fighters... he has the most annoying voice! Yi has this weird laughter
for a battle cry, dude sounds like "Curly" from the "Three Stooges!"

(C) WU KINGDOM; "Southern Kingdom" Historical Insignia: RED
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

-COMMENTARY-

WU: With its economic, military and transportation needs relying on the
Yangzi River, naval technology played an important part in Wu. The
Yangzi Valley supported the majority of the population and sustained
trade between the lower and middle reaches of the river. Because of the
size of Wu, being the largest of the three kingdoms, control over the
southern territories such as Nanhai and Jiaozhi was very minimal. Wu
controlled the provinces of Yang, Jing and Jiao.

The capital was originally at Wuchang, then transferred to Jiankang,
also known as Jiangye (modern day Nanjing), near the widest part of the
Yangtze River and north of Tai Lake. It was part of Danyan county and
was chosen by the Sun clan due to its proximity to their power base in
the region of Wu, directly to its south. The city was protected by
Jinling Fort and its four walls. During the Three Kingdoms, Jiankang
became a major cultural and political centre of Southeast China,
experiencing few major disruptions to city life.

The population of the south was not yet built up to the extend of
the present day and the north-south population ratio was in favour of
the north. Wu had around 520,000 households and 2,300,000 residents
under its rule, including 30,000 bureaucrats and armed forces of
230,000. The climate of Wu was tropical and the terrain was mostly
marshland and densely covered forest and jungle. Hence the northern
armies of Wei found it extremely difficult to win a decisive victory
before they were overcome by malaria.

--Three Kingdoms Chronicle

Feedback: It took approximately three generations for the Wu Kingdom to
rise to power! Founded by Sun Jian, who was slain before Wu actually
came to power, it was developed by his children. The Wu Kingdom's
position in the basin of the Yangtze River allows it a large sphere of
influence. As opposed to the other two kingdoms the Wu Kingdom relies
on short range weaponary, primarily swords!

SUN JIAN: Style; (WENTAI)
Born in: FuChun (Wu) 155
Died in: ShiangYang/ShienSan (NanYang) 192 AD

He was active in the battle against Dong Zhuo and the Yellow Turban
Rebels. After he was able to capture the old capital Lo Yang, Dong Zhuo
moved it to Chang An. Sun Jian found the Hereditary Seal (an Imperial
Crown) and stole it. Yuan Shao suspected Sun Jian of the theft and Sun
Jian denied it saying that if he did, he would die a horrible death. On
his way home, Yuan Shao ordered that Liu Biao stop him. Sun Jian fought
Liu Biao but he was struck & killed by many arrows.

Sun Jian is very powerful, although his fighting style isn't unique,
he uses it much better than other warriors do, due to his strength and
defensive prowess. Overall he's pretty decent fighter... but I prefer
to use Liu Bei!

SUN QUAN: Style; (ZHONGMOU)
Born in: 182
Died in: 252 AD

His father and all his male siblings were fated to die before their
time, which left Quan as the reigning monarch of Wu! He was a such a
fierce warrior... that he would go out alone on horseback and hunt
tigers! Quan was the first Emperor of the Wu Kingdom, and Sun Jian's
second son. He inherited the lands of Wu from his older brother Sun Ce
who laid down the foundations. He was installed as the new ruler at a
very early age, and became friends with Lu Su and Zhou Yu. He housed
Liu Bei after Liu Biao's defeat. He invited scholars and warriors from
everywhere to join his army including Gan Ning a former pirate.

Quan appointed Zhou Yu as Commander-In-Chief during the Battle at
Redwall and made Lu Su his assistant. He also sought the help of Zhuge
Liang who was with Liu Bei, and recruited Zhuge Liang's older brother,
Zhuge Jin into his counsel. After Cao Pi proclaimed himself Emperor of
Wei, Sun Quan proclaimed himself the Emperor of Wu and Liu Bei became
Emperor of Shu thus starting the Three Kingdoms. Quan was shrewd
ambitious, and a man of no nosense... he often used devious tactics to
get his own way! Through out the years he outlived all his brothers; he
even outlived Lu Xun. Sun died when he was 71. The Wu Kingdom was the
last of the Three Kingdoms to fall (since the Wei Kingdom fell into the
hands of the Jin Kings).

Sun Quan Has the same moves and attributes as his father (Sun Jian)!
See Sun Jian above. Quan is a solid fighter... but his screeching voice
annoys the hell out of me!

ZHOU YU: Style; (GONGJIN)
Born in: Shu (LuJiang) 175
Died in: 210

Yu was sworn brother and brother in law to Sun Ce and helped in
capturing south China. He married the 2nd most beautiful woman in all
of China (Sun Ce's wife's sister). After Ce died, he served Sun Quan.
Zhou Yu was very devious in nature, and full of schemes... he out-foxed
Cao Cao several times, and was one of the most highly decorated
officers in Wu. He recommended Lu Su to Sun Quan and was appointed
Commander In Chief during the Battle at Redwall. Yu got Cai Mao mixed
up in a conspiracy which made Cao Cao put him to death.

Later Yu tried to assassinate Liu Bei but changed his mind after he
saw the hero Guan Yu standing next to him. He also feared Zhuge Liang's
prowess and ploted to have him executed on several occasions, but was
unsuccessfull becuse Liang was always able to out-smart him! Zhou Yu,
Zhuge Liang and Pang Tong helped win a stunning, victory over Cao Cao
during Redwall, even though they were outnumbered 10 to 1. Eventually
Zhou Yu died of illness from a chronic wound.

One-on-One this guy's no joke, his style is abstract and his combos
are complex. Although, Yu's power isn't any where near porportional to
his speed. The Supreme Commander moves so fast that he can successfully
counter, interrupt anyones combo attacks, and also link combos while
airborne! This makes him a hell of an offensive and defensive fighter!
Lu Xun, Sun Shang Xiang, Gan Ning, Huang Zhong and Xiahou Yuan are the
only fighters who come even remotely close to matching his speed!
Another bonus is Zhou's Musou Attack "SCARLET TEARS," it juggles
opponents and is quite easy to link from a combo. But, I can't help but
point out that he'd be even more lethal if he could link his counter
attack with a combo too.

Died in: ???

Lu was a Wu officer after the Battle of Red Wall, he was also one of
the main supporters of the Wu Kingdom after Zhou Yu's death. When Lu
was younger, he was a great fighter. He thought that was all he needed
to be successful, but Sun Quan taught him that he also needed to know
the strategies & politics of war. From that point on, Meng studied
furiously to advance. Lu Meng proposed to invite Gan Ning and Lu Xun to
Sun Quan. He was active in the Battle at Yi Ling where he captured the
invincible Guan Yu and Guan Ping. Where the latter two were
subsequently executed (beheaded)! Soon after Guan Yu's spirit takes
possesion of Meng's body, killing him in the process!

Lu Meng has awesome reach with his weapon. His only problem is his
lack of speed. He isn't as slow as some, but he's slow enough that
enemies can successfully counter most of his attacks... actually his
movements are "identical" to Zhang Liao's! Look under the Wei Kingdom
and see Zhang Liao for further information.

GAN NING: Style; (XINGBA)
Born in: Linjiang in Bajun ???
Died on: ???

He was once a famous pirate known as "Bandit of the Colored Sails."
He received recommendation by Lu Meng and so he served Sun Quan in the
Wu Kingdom's navy, and was responsible for leading a suicide squad
against Cao Cao. He took 100 Calvary troops and literally hacked
through the enemy. Not a single man under his command died in that
mission. Sun Quan, upon learning of Gan Ning's bravery, said, "Cao Cao
may have Zhang Liao, but we have Gan Ning!" Gan Ning was one of the
fiercest generals and was an Admiral during the Battle of Red Wall. Yet
he was killed at Yi Ling by Shamoke, who shot an arrow in the back of
his skull, while trying to flee. His corpse was found sitting under a
tree being scavenged upon by crows.

Here's yet another one of my favorites. Gan Ning's got that ruthless
appearance... red and black serpent tattoos, dread locks, shrewd
demeanor etc. His style is identical to Huang Zhong's & Xiahou Yuan's,
but his attributes put him ahead of the latter two. Ning's better than
most fighters in a 1-on-1 match, due to his speed and strength;
interrupting moves, out-gunning, overpowering, countering. Gan Ning's
combos and chain-combos are fairly easy to link even after countering
too. He's a well rounded character, I'd highly reccomend him to
"Newbies" looking for a solid fighter.

LU XUN: Style; (BOYAN)
Born in: ???
Died in: ???

One of the greatest officers ever in the Wu Kingdom. Lu Xun was
recommended by Lu Meng and Han Ze when he was only 25. He gave advice
to Lu Meng on how to capture Guan Yu at the Battle at Yi Ling. He
became Upholder of the State and defended the Wu Kingdom from Liu Bei's
forces. Lu Xun lived a long life and was the most decorated Wu officer.

Lu Xun's infinite combos "White Tiger Talon" & "Bright Tiger Talon"
are both deadly at close quarters. He also has many moves that stun
enemies. There are quite a few characters that can't cover their
rear... Lu Xun happens to be one of the weakest in this department. His
Musou Attack "WILD PHEASANTS" doesn't cover his back either, so when
your fighting in massive crowds, it's best to use hit and run tactics.
Lu is a light hitter, yet his style of sword-play and even his
phenomenal speed rivals Zhou Yu's.

TAISHI CI: Style; (ZIYI)
Born in:
Died in:

He helped save Kong Rong from the remnants of the Yellow Turban
Rebels. Ci joined a small ruler in the south and fought against Sun Ce.
He dueled personally with Sun Ce and they were impressed with each
other's skill. Taishi Ci was captured but Sun Ce let him go. The next
day Taishi Ci returned with his army and surrendered to Sun Ce. He was
in the Battle of Redwall but didn't fight. Later, Zhang Liao attacked
the Wu Kingdom and Taishi Ci was killed in battle.

This guy has a very limited arsenal, he's strong... but his attacks
are so linear that he can't effectively attack anyone except those
who are centered directly in front of him. Wandering into the middle of
a large battle with him would probably be catastrophic. Ci's Musou
Attack the "DREADED FOE HAMMER" packs sheer power, one blow could send
an enemy about 10 to 15 yards away! But those who are unfortunate
enough to get in his path can easily counter him. Despite the fact that
his musou is strong it's slow and also easily avoidable.

SUN SHANG XIANG: Style; (?) [LADY SUN]
Born in: ???
Died in: ???

She was Sun Quan's younger sister. A skilled fighter, she never had
any difficulty learning the finer points of martial arts. She was also
betrothed to Liu Bei for the sake of keeping peace between the Wu and
Shu Kingdoms. Initially the betrothal was a ploy to assassinate Liu,
but Sun Shang's mother liked Liu Bei... and thought he had promise as
a ruler, so the assassination was called off! She later commited
suicide by drowning, during the Battle of Yi Ling... fearing that
Liu Bei had been killed!

Lady Sun is a very quick fighter, but she's a light hitter and has
a timid defense. Her short range of attacks aren't much help either.
To compensate, she must use hit and run tactics. The plus side is she
does have a few techniques to save her a$$... Sun happens to be one of
the best at clearing enemy troops! Shang can easily work her way
through hordes of lower level troops, but she needs a strategy when
fighting a foe with superior strength!

(D) Extra Characters
--------------------

-COMMENTARY-
This section consists of an array of miscellaneuos characters that
played significant roles in the epic saga! However they are only
playable in "FREE MODE!"

DONG ZHUO: Style; (ZHONGYING)
Born in: ???
Died in: 192

The first "real villain" in the Epic. He saved the capital, Lo Yang,
from destruction by the Yellow Turban Rebels. He bribed LU BU and made
him his personal bodyguard and adopted son. With LU BU by his side, his
army was able to repel the attacks of Yuan Shao's Allied Forces. Dong
rose to high power and became a tyrant, controlling the Emperor like a
puppet. Mutilating civilians by toture and other perverse acts!
Eventually having the Emperor himself dispatched and replacing him with
his younger sibling! Abusing protocol; debaunching the imperial
concubines, sleeping in the Emperors quarters! One day he led his
troops to the city of Yang, located outside Luoyang. The villagers
there were celebrating a spring thanksgiving fesitval, in honor of
their local god. Dong Zhuo ordered the crowd surrounded and had all the
men beheaded. He seize the women and goods and loaded them in carts!
The severed heads were tied to the sides of the carts! When he returned
to the capital he announced he'd returned from a great victory over
some bandits! The heads were burned at the city gate and the women and
valuables distributed freely among the army!

On another occasion with all his officials present, several hundred
enemy troops from the north voluntairily surrendred to him. Then and
there Zhuo ordered his guards to mutilate them; some had their ears,
limbs, and tongues lopped off! Others had there eyes gouged out, and
were boiled in vats! Once he was almost assassinated by Cao Cao, but
Cao failed and he fled fearing for his life. Later, he was forced to
move the capital from Lo Yang to Chang An because Sun Jian, broke
through the camps. In Chang An he ruled with extreme violence. He was
eventually assassinated by LU BU! His whole family-line was
subsequently executed! Dong's head was severed and put on public
display, commoners would walk by and hit it! It is said that there was
so much "FAT" in his body that the guards lit a fire in his navel; as
it burned grease from the corpse ran over the ground.

One of the strongest Warriors in the game, he has a huge life meter
and very strong defense! This combination makes his fat ass a serious
contender. Because he's quite a strong character, his eight personal
guards are also very formidable. Zhuo's primary attacks focus mainly on
enemies directly in front of him... like all warriors who use a sword,
his weak point is his rear!

LU BU: Style; (LU FENGXIAN)
Born in: 156 AD
Died in: 198

The strongest and most feared Warlord in the Three Kingdoms period,
is arguably the undisputed martial champion of his time! He joined the
"Evil" Prime Minister Dhong Zhuo, after being bribed for "Red Hare"
(Chi Tu Ma). One of the greatest horses in Chinese History. A giant
stallion of red color, supposedly able to gallop 250 miles a day,
decorated with lavish silk, gold, and jewels. LU betrayed his adoptive
father Ding Yuan, by killing him for the horse. Hours later, Ding
Yuan's head lay in Dong Zhuo's camp, his adopted son having realigned
himself with his former enemies. Although he was untrustworthy, LU BU
possessed uncanny skills. When LU faced the Allied Forces at Hu Lao
Gate, he fought a duel with Liu Bei, Guan Yu, & Zhang Fei at the same
time, until he was finally forced to retreat due to fatigue!

He fell in love with a beautiful maiden named Diao Chan who was
promised to him. However, she was later Dong Zhuo's concubine. This
made LU BU furious & jealous. Eventually LU BU killed Dong Zhuo too,
so he could have Dong's mistress. Throughout out his life Fengxian
participated in many battles, but in the end... LU BU's men betrayed
him, by turning him over to Cao Cao, who inevitably had him executed by
hanging. Afterwards LU's headed was put on public display. To this day
LU BU's name is synonymous with treachery.

Personally I despised his character in the novel, but the game is
entirely a different matter. LU BU is my all time favorite DW2 fighter!
WHY, because LU Fengxian has "NO EQUALS" on the battlefield! He can
wade through enemy troops with the greatest of ease. His power is so
immense that he doesn't even need a strategy, and the sheer intensity
of his attacks can break even the best-defenses. As a matter of fact
any attack ending with his Charge Attack "SCORCHING HEAVEN" can break
anyones defense! Playing with him in Hard Mode is like using a regular
character in Normal Mode, using him in Normal is like playing with any
charcter on Easy, and playing with him on Easy Mode is mere childs play
to say the least!

He has the highest Life, Attack, & Defense, his halberd also has the
longest reach! Even LU's archery skills are on par with Huang Zhong's,
causing atleast twice the damage of anyone else. Another factor to take
into consideration is his ability to feld enemies. The majority of his
attacks have properties which repel opponents on a grand scale, any
intial person hit can cause a chain reaction... knocking down
bystanders! When using him I've literally knocked down atleast 10 to 12
opponents with a single stroke, the man is damned near invincible!

"FINAL ONSLAUGHT" SUPREME POLE-AXE Of SQUARE HEAVEN:

TIP: When using his Musou Attack "SUDDEN DEATH" it's best to juggle
your opponent first by pressing SQUARE, TRIANGLE. This will open the
enemy up for numerous strikes, as opposed to using his Musou without
juggling... which will simply repel your desired target out of
striking range! Also his "Hidden Scorpion" does extensive damage,
this is one of the best moves to use when fighting a strong warrior!

1-on-1 against LU BU
++++++++++++++++++++

TIP: Here's a few tips on how to fight against LU BU 1-on-1! There is
no one... I reiderate... "NO" one, stronger than LU BU! In order to
succesfully beat him you must out-manuver and out-smart, by relying on
sheer skill! The "BEST" characters to use are the ones with juggling
Musou's. Those that don't use jugglers are in for a harder time!

On the OFFENSIVE
----------------

NOTE: While in the face-off position ALWAYS hold the guard button!

I love to fight LU BU at close quarters. Watch his movement, if you
see him preparing to attack, then try either of the following:

1) Attack him first! LU BU's easy to out gun... to the trained eye!
Initiate a Chain Combo, preferablly one that ends in a Charge Attack or
Musou Attack!

2) Or you can simply intiate a Musou Attack! If you're using a
character who uses a NORMAL/STANDARD or REPELING Musou Attack then
try juggling him first (SQUARE, TRIANGLE)! SEE I. The ARTS Of WAR;
(E) MUSOU ATTACKS, for more details. "NEVER EVER"... use a Standard or
Repelling Musou with out modifying either first, or LU BU will more
than likely counter your Musou Attack with his own! You can "ONLY" try
either Musou Attack immediately after he's already used his own Musou
Attack, but I still wouldn't reccomend it!

In the event LU BU's preping up for a Charge Attack try either of the
following methods:

1) Jump above (&) or over (NOT AWAY from) him, once you've jumped his
"Scorching Heaven," he will be wide open! After you descend, attack...
get in as many hits as possible! Whatever offensive method you decide;
combo, musou, whatever.

NOTE: His "BITING STEEL" (SQUARE, SQUARE, SQUARE, SQUARE), a move he
uses quite often, can be jumped over "literally!" The arc at which he
swings his weapon does not cover or extend over-head leaving him wide
open! Technically speaking this move also ends the same as his Charge
Attack; "SCORCHING HEAVEN." The final move results in a 360 degree
back-hand stroke... the only difference is the latter is slower but
much stronger! Since the final move of LU BU's "BITING STEEL" technique
is technically the same as his "SCORCHING HEAVEN," you can also jump up
(&) or over it in the same fashion!

2) Initiate an barrge of attacks... try to get in as much damage as you
can! If possible try to end your combo with a Musou Attack, unless your
characters Musou is a Standard or Repelling Musou! If you're using a
character that uses either Musou Attacks... then initiate a juggling
combo first!

3) There a 3 techniques in paticular that will help you out depending
upon your circumnstances:

A. SQUARE, SQUARE, SQUARE, TRIANGLE. This is the strongest Charge
Attack! When LU BU's to much to handle use it to put some distance
between the 2 of you!

B. SQUARE, SQUARE, TRIANGLE, CIRCLE. This will render him helpless in
any event. It is possible to end it with the TRIANGLE, in which case
you can use simply finish with your Musou Attack or you can use arrows
instead!

C. When you've built up some speed and you're headed directly at him,
then use your Dash Attack. This is a tad bit complicated... so I'll try
to be specific! "All" characters have a Dash Attack, yet there are a
select few who can use it as prerequisite to achieve a Musou Attack!
Those who can, have "2" options:

I. Follow your Dash Attack up with a Musou Attack! Which is best used
after you've had the opportunity to repel him a good distance, the
"SQUARE, SQUARE, SQUARE, TRIANGLE" combo is the best method for
repelling a character.

II. In the event that his defenses are up, use your Dash Attack to
momentairly break his defense, then follow it up with a Musou Attack!

Those characters who can't use their Dash Attack to follow up with a
Musou Attack are stuck with the second option!

4. At a distance you have the upper hand, you can wait until he's
atleast at good distance away or relatively close (NOT too close),
whatever makes you comfortable! Then light his ASS up with a string of
Arrows! Charge "1" to make him dizzy (and do whatever), or let loose a
Musou Attack (of arrows) while he's dizzy or even when he's not dizzy!

On the DEFENSIVE
----------------

LU BU without question is prone to releasing a flurry of attacks...
without any tactics involved! You can exploit his attacks to your own
means! When he's simply swinging, try one or all of the following:

1) Counter him (try and catch him on his 1st swing), he's by far one of
the easiset characters to counter because he's so predictable! He may
be fast but he's not that resourcefull! If by chance you're using a
character who can follow through after performing a counter, then by
all means do so. Try to end your combo with a Musou Attack!

2) As a matter of fact some characters are much faster than LU BU, if
you see him gearing up to strike, simply out gun him with a Chain
Combo, Musou Attack, or Chain Combo that ends with a Charge or Musou!

3) When push comes to shove and all your energy & power is spent, rely
on counters and evasive manuevers! If you feel you need to make an
immediate retreat... then do so! If you need to go and he's bearing
down on you... then face him! Wait for him to strike then counter (then
leave)! REMEMBER YOU CAN ALWAYS COUNTER!

TIP: The "KEY" is to wear him down, get him to exhaust all his life!
If you constantly knock him down he will more than likely keep
replenishing his energy! This will take quite a while, but that's half
the FUN!

FINAL NOTE: If you want to eliminate him quickly, then get inside his
defenses and perform chain combos (WITHOUT knocking him down)! Since he
hasn't fallen he won't feel the need to replenish his energy! When
you've finally worked him down to a small amount of energy (I'll leave
that up to your professional judgement), initiate a Musou Attack or
chain combo ending with a Musou Attack!

DIAO CHAN: Style; (?)
Born in: ???
Died in: ???

Supposedly one of the most beautiful women in Chinese history, she
was adopted by a court official at a very young age and raised as his
own daughter. Her "father" devised a clever scheme to use her to end
Dong Zhuo's despotic reign. Diao became Dong Zhuo's concubine, at the
same time she secretly seduced LU BU. Ultimately, her adopted-father's
goal was to use her... in order to pit LU BU against Dong Zhuo.

Diao Chan is a pretty quick character and also a heavy hitter. Her
defense is okay and she pulls off combos quite easily, but the nature
of her moves are mediocre at best! I can't say for certain but I think
a few of her moves posses properties that make foes dizzy upon impact!

YUAN SHAO: Style; (BENCHU)
Born in: ??? AD
Died in: 202 AD

Was a member of one of the Han Dynasty's noble houses, and the ruler
of north China. He was the Commander In Chief in League against Dong
Zhuo. He suspected Sun Jian of stealing the Hereditary Seal and ordered
Liu Biao to stop him. After Dong Zhuo's death, he went back home and
attacked Gongsun Zan. Shao also housed Liu Bei after Lu Bu's previous
betrayal to his guest. Towards the end his lack of ambition, and
indecisive behavior (verging on INCOMPETENCE) cost him the battle at
Guang Du, by Cao Cao! Yuan failed to listen to the advice of Tian Feng
along with his strategists, Guo Jia and Cheng Yu. After he lost the
battle, Shao became very sick... he made his son Yuan Shang successor,
then he died soon after.

Shao is a good character to use for simply walking around and
slashing enemies. He's quite strong, like Dong Zhuo & Zhang Jiao he
starts with 8 personal guards. His attributes are virtually identical
to Dong Zhuo's but Yuan is slightly weaker! Overall he's an excellent
character for newbies to perfect their skill.

Zhang Jiao: Style; (?)
Born in: ???
Died in: ???

Jiao represented the people's frustration, under a unjust and cruel
corrupted Han Dynasty. Rumored to have received the Book of Heaven,
Jiao took up the study of magic & sorcery. After mastering the Mystic
Arts, he founded his own religion... the Yellow Turban Bandits! He died
of illness the same year. After several months of fighting, Cao Cao and
Sun Jian quelled what was left of the rebellion.

Zhang Jiao isn't very strong, but he's quick. Relying on speed, he
can do a great deal of damage with little interruption. Like "all" the
warriors who use swords, his weakness is covering his back! Jiao is
another good character for newbies to perfect their skill.

IV. RULES Of ENGAGEMENT
=======================

-COMMENTARY-
There are a few characters that are able to extend the regular
"normal-special" combo (SQUARE, TRIANGLE, SQUARE, SQUARE, SQUARE,
CIRCLE) into a combo with infinity hits (99), if your skill permits!

(A) THE FORMULA; INFINITE COMBOS
--------------------------------

I am not talking about Lu Xun's infinite air juggle or his
"jump slash" technique. The way to do it is simply this:

SQUARE, TRIANGLE, SQUARE, SQUARE, SQUARE... SQUARE, SQUARE, SQUARE...
SQUARE, SQUARE, SQUARE... SQUARE, SQUARE, SQUARE... etc, then end it
with or without a CIRCLE if you need to. The "key" is to extend the
"SQUARE, SQUARE, SQUARE," depending on the speed of your character.

Look for the "SWEET SPOT" or hit area of the 3rd normal swing, and
timing of when to hit your enemy. In essence your just synchronizing
your strikes! Ideally, whoever is kind of fast and has a wide range
motion for the 3rd normal hit works best because the 3rd hit in each
"SQUARE, SQUARE, SQUARE" is very crucial to keep the combo chain going.
If you miss the 2nd, but make the 3rd, you may still be able to keep it
going. But if you miss the third, the combo ends.

However, not everybody has a wide range 3rd hit can do it. Take
"Zhao Yun" for example, always misses the 3rd swing because his 3rd hit
is only around the tip of his spear, not the entire stem. This makes
him miss every time when the enemy is very close.

(B) IN-DEPTH GUIDE; CHAIN COMBOS
--------------------------------

Press SQUARE, TRIANGLE, to lift your enemy into the air, then move
your character to a favorable spot (that "SWEET SPOT" where your 1st
hit won't miss) a little bit before the enemy lands on the ground. Once
the enemy's body lands and bounces, then press; SQUARE, SQUARE, SQUARE
while advancing towards the enemy at the same time, keeping him/her in
your hitting range. Don't forget to move slightly left or right to keep
him/her in your "SWEET SPOT" for your 3rd hit, so you won't miss.

After the 3rd hit, keep approaching while timing when the enemy
lands and bounces again, then "REPEAT" another set of "SQUARE, SQUARE,
SQUARE" again and again! Finish him off with a "Musou Attack" for a
final finale! Or use it as a safety finish if you misses the previous
3rd hit. Lastly, it's easier to miss when the enemy is dead while you
are still chaining the combo. So practice with enemies with a longer
life or a boss in a not too crowded area.

The easiest characters I found to pull this off so far are Ma Chao &
Jiang Wei. They're two of the fastest tacticians with a spear, and both
have a very good 3rd swing. You just need to locate your enemy slightly
to your left to make sure the 3rd hit won't miss. But the "sweet spot"
for their 3rd hit is really big! Another character that is real good is
Gan Ning and others with the same style (Huang Zhong & Xiahou Yuan).
Even though their 3rd hit is a narrow stab and is quite hard to aim at
times, yet their style of slashes somehow keeps the enemy in decent
range, making the foot-work on following the enemy's hovering body a
bit easier!

This is a pretty advance combo to pull off because you need to know
your moves & "sweet spot" really well. You must position your character
at the right spot at the right time within a split of a second. But
when you are able to pull this off more and more often after some
practice, it feels so good because you are really using skill to beat
the bosses without avoiding from knocking them down! This way they are
unable to stand up & recover. If you are good, they will only fall once
and will never stand back up! No more sneaky sniper attack, nor "3
slashes and go" formula. Just beat them with a skillful and deadly
combo! And the hit count is all up to your "ART Of WAR."

(C) ALTERNATE FORMULA; CHAIN COMBOS
-----------------------------------

Liu Bei & fighter's with the same style (Sun Jian, Sun Quan, Yuan
Shao, Sima Yi, Dong Zhuo, Zhang Jiao), posses superb combo ability!
Instead of doing Ma Chao & Gan Ning's infinite combo, Liu Bei goes just
SQUARE, SQUARE continuously instead of SQUARE, SQUARE, SQUARE, after
lifting your enemy into the air! Strike right when the enemy lands and
does the little bounce on the ground. And surprisingly, the percentage
of pulling off this infinite combo is almost a 100%!! This is due to
the wide hitting range of Liu Bei's first 2 normal slashes, and his big
forward steps in every move. Other characters like Xiahou Yun, Guan
Yu.. etc. can do the same, but either they're too slow to keep up the
combo, or the enemy will drift out of range.

(D) ADVANCED FORMULA; CHAIN COMBOS
----------------------------------

Here's another difficult combo but it's great! You will need a full
Musou guage and atleast 10 to 20 arrows! Press SQUARE, TRIANGLE, to
lift your opponent. Immediately hold R1 and L1 then push down, your
character will then move backwards. While the enemy is descending use
your Musou Attack to shoot him (or her) with a barrage of arrows!

NOTE: You may find it difficult but with a little practice it is
possible. LU BU has the most success at this since his SQUARE, TRIANGLE
technique lifts opponents much higher than the other characters! With a
little bit of practice you should be able to accomplish this feat with
almost anyone.

(E) EXPERT FORMULA; CHAIN COMBOS
--------------------------------

Jump straight up and press SQUARE, successfully knock down your
opponent (ie, he didnt block you). Wait for his body to hit the ground
and bounce back up. As he bounces up, tap jump and press SQUARE again.
Repeat the process over and over. Timing is based upon the length of
the weapon being used, the smaller the range the smaller the jump.

Here's an alternate method for the same combo:

Try jumping low, SQUARE, jumping low, SQUARE, with out waiting for
the body to bounce, its much easier that way. Both methods are still
complicated yet each technique should be "UNIVERSAL" with everyone,
it's been tried and tested with; Zhang Fei, Zhao Yun, Jiang Wei, Dian
Wei, and Zhou Yu, and Gan Ning.

VI. The BATTLEFIELD
===================

(A) Yellow Turban Rebellion
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++

In Spring of the year 184, Zhang Jiao raised the Chinese people
against the decadent & corrupt Han Dynasty! Followers of Zhang proudly
wore yellow cloths around their heads. Thus was born the "Yellow Turban
Rebellion." The beleaguered Han sent out their call for help & ordered
a campaign against the "Yellow Turbans" who numbered in the hundreds of
thousands. From all across the country brave men and women stood to
answer this call of duty. Their stories... their legends are about to
begin...

Led by Zhang Jiao, the Yellow Turban Rebels take on the armies led
by He Jin, Liu Bei, Cao Cao, & Sun Jian, united they were known as the
Imperial Forces.

Strategy for the Allied Forces:
-------------------------------

Secure all Enemy's Gates within encampment (Generals & Gate
Captains), work your way inside the interior of its forces! Once you
reach the ravine, you have 2 of the following options;

1. In the event you choose to face Zhang Bao then you may either;
foolishly confront him while his winds keep you at bay, in which case
you'll be an easy target for his archers! Or you can trick him into
coming down to you...

NOTE: See; VII. TRICKS (Coaxing Zhang Bao)!

2. You can also double back and use the Eastern Route through the rough
terrain, which will give you the option of flanking Zhang Bao (and) or
proceeding towards the East, in which event you will face Zhang Liang,
before you reach Zhang Jiao!

Before you reach Zhang Liang you have another 2 options. Follow the
trail West of Zhang Liang's location & you will have to go through a
ravine; in which case will be bombarded with falling boulders! Take the
trail to the South of his position and you will flank him!

NOTE: Once you have dealt with either Bao or Liang (or both), proceed
towards Zhang Jiao... dispatching any Gate Captains you may come across
and deal with Jiao at your own leisure!

Strategy for the Yellow Turbans:
--------------------------------

Systematically defeat all Generals of each Army. Destroy He Jin...

(B) Battle at Hu Lao Gate
+++++++++++++++++++++++++

The Campaign against the Yellow Rebels was successful. However, the
hard won peace was short lived. Emperor Ling died and the land was once
again plunged into war. One man clawed his way to the top during this
time of turmoil. His name was Dong Zhuo... Dong seized control of the
armies and enlisted as his personal bodyguard the fierce LU BU. Secure
in this power, he began his own despotic rule. Han loyalist determined
to end the depravity of Dong Zhuo. They gathered their forces into a
strong alliance and chose Yuan Shao to lead them. In 191, the two
forces met at the impregnable Hu Lao Gate. The battle to save the Han
was once again about to begin...

The allied forces, led by Yuan Shao, clashes with the force led
by the tyrant Dong Zhuo. Lu Bu, the strongest warrior in the Three
Kingdoms period, and his co-conspirator & mistress Diao Chan also
appear in this stage.

Strategy for the Allied Forces:
-------------------------------

Secure all gates, assist your comrades when nescessary (fellow
Generals). Neutralize LUBU... monitor Yuan Shao's position (in case of
an ambush), slay Dong Zhuo.

NOTE: It's best to secure the gate nearest to LU BU's location before
facing him! This way his support diminshes drastically!

Strategy for Dong Zhuo's Forces:
--------------------------------

Systematically defeat all Leaders of each Army. NOTE: Monitor Diao
Chan's unit... in case LU BU and his men (Zhang Liao & Gao Shun) decide
to switch sides!

NOTE: LU BU will only switch sides in "FREE MODE," you must be a
General under Dong Zhuo's command or play the role of Dong Zhuo!

(C) Battle at Guan Du
+++++++++++++++++++++

The Alliance had destroyed Dong Zhuo. Still, the Han remained
powerless as each Lord began to dream his own dreams of conquest and
power. War once again brings chaos to China. Each Lord pitted his
ambition and remaining men against all comers. The warring states
period was at hand. Two Lords stood out: Yuan Shao, master of the four
provinces of He Bei, and Cao Cao, Guardian of the Emperor. In the year
200, these Great Lords faced off at Guan Du. Only one would survive to
gain control of the richest land of China. The heavens weep. The Land
groans. Battle once again is joined...

Cao Cao and Yuan Shao fight for control over China's central plains.
Facing certain defeat at the hands of Yuan Shao's much larger forces,
Cao Cao must attempt a bold tactical move, he attempts to burn Shao's
provisions.

Strategy for Yuan Shao's Forces:
--------------------------------

Cut off all support surrounding the castle (There are 3 Gates; 2
behind Guan Du, 1 adjacent)... lay Guan Du under siege! Remember to
monitor your Supply Depot guarded by Chun Yuqiong, located in the
central area of the Map! If you loose your supplies, this will weaken
your forces dramatically! Cao Cao will then proceed an all out assault
on HQ!

NOTE: If you play as Liu Bei or Zhang Fei and fight for Yuan Shao, then
advance on Guan Yu's position, located in the North. Guan Yu will draw-
back... and retreat! Subsequently this is another tactic that weakens
Cao Cao's forces (ONLY in the NORTH)! Remember his actual stronghold
"Guan Du" is in the South-East!

Strategy for the Wei Kingdom:
-----------------------------

NOTE: Choose between Strategies A or B

PLAN (A) Take out both Generals (Yuan Shang & Zhang He), secure both
gates on the main grounds, both are adjacent to the river. Cross the
river and secure all gates surronding Yuan Shao's encampment! Locate
Yuan Shao's Supply Depot, slay the commanding officer (Chun Yuqiong).
Attack Yuan Shao's HQ!

PLAN (B) Take out both Generals Yuan Shang & Zhang He, secure both
gates adjacent to the river. Force Yuan Shao's troops to advance on
Guan Du, by killing Yan Liang! Weaken Shao's offensive by locating
his Supply Depot, slay the commanding officer (Chun Yuqiong). Advance
on Yuan Shao's position!

NOTE: If you play as Guan Yu and fight for Cao Cao, then head towards
Yan Jin Stronghold Gate, located in the upper North-West corner. Liu
Bei will draw-back... and retreat! Subsequently this is another tactic
that helps weaken Yuan Shao's forces, leaving him with only 3 Generals
(Yan Liang, Wen Chou, and Chun Yuqiong) in the Northern District!

(D) Battle of Chang Ban
+++++++++++++++++++++++

The Alliance had destroyed the ambition of Dong Zhuo. Still, the Han
remained powerless as each Lord began to dream his own dreams of
conquest and power. In the Year 200, Cao Cao defeats Yuan Shao and
gains control over the Central plains. Supreme power rests in his hands
and his forces grow tremendously. Cao Cao works to bring the entire
land under his control. In 208, he personally leads his men south to
Jing. After years of wandering Liu Bei had finally come to rest in
Jing. Now he must find a way to escape the overwhelming force soon to
reach him...

Liu Bei's force fights furiously to defend itself against Cao Cao
and the Wei army, who are pressing in from all directions. The two
commanders exchange devastating blows in this stage.

Strategy for the Wei Kingdom:
-----------------------------

Overwhelm and decimate Liu Bei's forces, cut them off before they
retreat to the North! Since you have the superior numbers you do have
the advantage, technically speaking! All you need to do is hold out
long enough for reinforcements to arrive, which has been timed around
95'00'00. The time frame may vary due to cut scenes or other
significant events.

Strategy for the Shu Kingdom:
-----------------------------

NOTE: Choose between Strategies A or B

PLAN (A) Quickly secure the 3 enemy gates within the southwest region.
Destroy all Cao Cao's opposing Forces within the vicinity... monitor
the battle field, hold your position & wait for the arrival of Wei's
reinforcements. All you need to do is mop up Cao Cao's Foot-Soldiers &
Generals; Cao Pi, Cao Zhang, and Xiahou En... then advance on Cao Cao!

PLAN (B) Eliminate Dian Wei and Xhu Zhu as soon as possible (killing
the 2 triggers Cao Cao's reinforcements to arrive)! Head to the East
"immediately," take out the gate directly South of the "key" bridge!
Advance up North and dispatch Cao Ren, if Cao Cao's reinforcements
arrive at the bridge before you finish him off... then continue to
proceed as planned! Once you've finished Ren then return south to the
bridge and assist (or prepare to assist) Zhang Fei! You must accomplish
all the above before Cao Cao's troops have the opportunity to mobolize
and reach the bridge!

In the event that you accomplish all the above, and Zhang Fei is
still located in the central area, then advance on his position and
assist him there! By this time Liu Bei should be safe in the
North/North-East, and Cao's remaining generals will be descending on
your position from the North-West! When Fei retreats... take leave with
him! Leave him behind only under the following circumnstances:

1) Enemy Troops are attempting to cross (or have crossed) the bridge!

2) He dies before the two of you reach the bridge!

If the latter happens then it will be up to you to keep Cao Cao's
Forces at bay until the reinforcements arrive, which will happen around
80'00'00 (give or take). The time frame may vary due to cut scenes or
other significant events. If you're "REAL" good, Cao Cao's force won't
even be able to cross the Bridge!

NOTE; Liu Bei's son "Liu Chan" (the "baby") only appears "after" Cao
Cao's reinforcements arrive!

(E) Battle at Chi Bi
++++++++++++++++++++

The Alliance had destroyed the ambition of Dong Zhuo. Still, the Han
remained powerless as each Lord began to dream his own dreams of
conquest and power. Chief among these was Cao Cao. He gains control of
the Emperor, defeats Yun Shao, and wins control over most of the North.
In 208, Cao Cao began his southern campaign. He easily gained control
of Jing and continued on towards Yang, the land ruled by Sun Quan. Sun
called up his elite naval forces to thwart the invasion. However, still
he was vastly outnumbered. Zhou Yu commands the defense. Victory or
death. The defense of Wu begin...

Sun Quan's will attempt to use firetraps to end Cao Cao's plan to
unite all of China, by taking the Wu kingdom. This stage consists of
many boats tied together, and is mazelike in its complexity.

Strategy for the Wei Kingdom:
-----------------------------

Cut off all advancing Forces at the docks, quickly neutralize Wu's
"key" General (Zhou Yu), his role is essential in giving Wu the upper-
hand. Time is of the essence, you don't want Huang Gai to burn your
Naval Ships & Docks! Slay Yu then concentrate your efforts on Lu Meng,
Lu Xun, & Gan Ning! Dispatch them at your own leisure. Next; Secure the
South-East Perimeter by killing Zhou Tai & claim the nearest gate (it's
not nescessary to claim the one in the farthest South-Eastern corner)!

At this point all your doing is slowly working your way towards Sun,
after systematically clearing all the generals in your region! Simply
proceed towards him while eliminating any opposition! Dispatch the Gate
Captain first (located in the rear of his sector) then concentrate on
Sun Quan!

NOTE: I usually take out the archers also, in the towers and on the
ground after I've dealt with the Gate Captain! It's not nescessary but
it does make your task much easier!

Strategy for the Wu Kingdom:
----------------------------

Cut off all advancing Forces in the South-West Region (Xiahou Dun,
Yue Jin & Xiahou Yuan), head North-West (behind enemy lines, collect
arrows along the way)... defeat all opposing forces in the region (Xu
Zhu & Zhang He), claim all 3 enemy gates. If Huang Gai's Unit is in
jeopardy while you're in route, then by all means abandon your mission
and help him (If not then proceed as planned)!

After finishing your grueling task, work your way South-East and
help support Huang Gai. Wait for Zhuge Liang to summon the wind (which
will happen once you've earned 100 kills), shortly after... Zhou Yu
will give the order to set fire to Cao Cao's Navy! Aid fellow comrades
who need critical support (while monitoring Cao Cao's movements from
time to time, if he's on the run apprehend him before he escapes)! If
no one needs assistance then immediately push North, position yourself
behind Cao Cao's Unit. Either wait for Cao Cao to escape or initiate an
all out assault from his rear!

NOTE: Do "NOT" kill Cao Ren before the wind blows. If you don't kill
him then Lu Xun will appear, if you do kill him Lu Xun will not
appear... unless you are Lu Xun of course.

(F) Battle at He Fei
++++++++++++++++++++

The naval forces of Sun Quan deal Cao Cao a major defeat. Cao Cao is
forced to relinquish even his recently won Jing as he is driven back
north. The real benefactor of this battle is Liu Bei. As Cao is driven
back, he gains control of southern Jing. He later moves to Shu and
builds his forces. In the year 215, Sun Quan and Liu Bei plan a joint
attack on Cao Cao. They agree to move north, Sun Quan to He Fei and Liu
Bei to Hon Zhong. Sun Quan gathers a hundred thousand men, and
personally begins the invasion. In Wei, Cao Cao, is informed of the
attack and personally leads his army to repel the invasion. He swears
to repay Sun for his humiliating defeat at Chi Bi...

The Wu & Wei armies wage a battle for control of He Fei. Ultimately
the outcome of the battle is characterized by the guerilla units led by
Zhang Liao & Gan Ning!

Strategy for the Wei Kingdom:
-----------------------------

Take control of all bridges! Quickly neutralize Gan Ning's troop.
Work your way to Wu's HQ.

Strategy for the Wu Kingdom:
----------------------------

Tactfully immobilize all Wei Units in the southeast. Quickly "RE-
GROUP", prepare to repel Zhang Liao's assault upon HQ. Next secure all
boarders, working your way towards Wei!

(G) Battle at Yi Ling
+++++++++++++++++++++

At Chang Ban, Liu Bei barely escapes with his life. Joining forces
with Sun Quan, he manages to destroy Cao Cao's pursuit. At the same
time , he regains control of Jing. They call this the Battle of Chi Bi.
With Jing as a base, Liu Bei turns west to Shu. Winning control of Shu,
he is finally in a position to begin Zhuge Liangs "Heavenly Triangle."
However, Sun feels threatned by Bei's growth. He allies with Wei and
together they seize control of Jing. A furious Bei swears revenge. By
221, Bei's army had been attacking Yi Ling castle for a year. The men
are exhausted and so worn out that at first they don't notice Wu's
counter-attack...

Liu Bei attempts to save Guan Yu, who is surrounded by the Wu
forces. The Shu forces close in from three sides. Horrible weather
conditions and difficult roads await the two armies.

Strategy for the Shu Kingdom:
-----------------------------

Assist Guan Yu, systematically take all the roads in the North,
quickly neutralize Lu Xun and his remaining forces. After defeating Lu
Xun "REGROUP", and attack enemy troops that have landed to the east of
Shu HQ's (ONLY if necessary). Lastly, converge on Wu HQ.

Strategy for the Wu Kingdom:
----------------------------

Destroy Guan Yu and his troop, systematically take all roads in the
North. Next, assist Lu Xun in the South... converge on Shu HQ (use the
roads, "NOT" the "Eight Fold" Maze!)

Note: However if you are playing as "Lu Xun," dispatch Zhang Fei first,
manuever through the mountain pass behind Zhang Fei's encampment...
Lu Xun should automatically set fire to Fei's camp! Then proceed to
dispatch Guan Yu and Zhao Yun! If you're playing the role of another
Wu General then take the following steps:

(A) Clear out the two enemy gates on the path to the rear of Zhang
Fei's camp. Once that's done, head back to the mouth of the pass and
assist Lu Xun.

(B) While in transit, you should fight Yan Yan, and Zhang Bao. Defeat
them both as quickly as possible. If Zhang Fei heads towards your
position and blocks the path to the rear of the camp, then just restart
the battle, since it's virtually impossible to get Lu Xun to the other
side without killing Zhang Fei, negating the whole ordeal.

(C) Make sure to slay any soldiers obstructing Lu Xun. With the two
gates gone, this should be a simple task. Be quick about it, or Zhang
Fei will surely come to hinder your progess.

(D) Once the path is clear, inch forward, making sure that Lu Xun
trails you. Once he reaches the camp, he will say something to the
effect of "I have reached the rear of Zhang Fei's camp," and the event
will start.

(H) Battle on the Plains of Wu Zhang
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Liu Bei manages to defeat the forces of Sun Quan at Yi Ling and
retake Jing. He goes on to take all of Wu. Now there are only two
forces in the land. In 227, Bei begins a campaign against the traitor
who destroyed the Han, Cao Cao and his Wei. However, the brilliant
offensive strategies od Shu's Zhuge Liang are conquered by the superb
defensive planning of Wei's Sima Yi. Neither can hold the advantage for
very long. In 234, Liu Bei moves to break the deadlock. Following
Zhuge's advice, he moves his forces to the plains of Wu Zhang. Cao Cao
moves once again to stop Liu Bei's advance. He heads with Sima Yi to Wu
Zhang. Two armies, two brilliant strategists, only one outcome. The
fate of China is about to be decided...

This is a major battle fought by the Shu and Wei forces. The stage
is split by a river, which makes four different front lines. This is
the last battle between the Shu and Wei forces.

Strategy for the Wei Kingdom:
-----------------------------

Your job is to take over all 4 fronts on the river and converge on
Shu HQ. Then hinder Jiang Wei and Wei Yan's ambush. Jiang will come
from the East and Wei Yan from the West. The idea is to cripple Zhang
Fei and Guan Yu's Forces, and stop this event from ever occuring!
You've got to keep the majority of their troops from crossing the
bridge. Technically speaking this is basically a suicide run, you'll be
thankfull for those 8 personal guards because the enemy troops will out
number you almost 60 to 1. Slaying both Tiger Generals will open up Wu
Zhang's East and West Gates, and officers under both generals will pull
back! Remember dispatching "KEY" Generals is the quickest way to stack
the odds in your favor!

After you've finally done away with Zhang Fei and Guan Yu, move to
the center of the Wu Zhang Plains heading to Zhuge Liang's position!
"KILL" him and Jiang Wei and Wei Yan's ambush will never happen! Be
careful, he will have a full arsenal of Enemy Cross Bows waiting! After
dispatching Liang... keep the momentum going and hit Ma Chao and Zhao
Yun's Forces! Take the bridge located behind Zhao Yun's troops. At this
point you should be in transit towards Huang Zhong's vicinity. Xhu Zhu
should be under heavy fire or dead! Timing is of the essence you might
be able to save your comrade, wipe out the last remaining Tiger
General. Then converge on Liu Bei with your remaining troops.

BIG TIP: Locate as many arrows as you can, you shouldn't need more than
40... depending on your characters power! Forget about all the strategy
above. Race behind enemy lines and kill Zhuge Liang, enter Shu's
fortifications and make your way to either stairway located on the EAST
and WEST ends of the castle (located just outside of the entrance to
where Liu Bei is waiting)! Use your map to locate Liu Bei's position.
Once you've located him, position yourself on his EAST or WEST flank,
depending upon which side of the stairs you ascended! Use R1, to locate
your mark! Use (CHARGE/MUSOU) arrows to kill him!

Strategy for the Shu Kingdom:
-----------------------------

Take over all fronts on the river and converge on Wei HQ.

BIG TIP: If you're playing as Guan Yu or Zhang Fei then your initial
location will be the interior of Wu Zhang Plains! Across the river on
both sides are two enemy generals! Xhu Zhu and Zhang He are West of
Guan Yu and Xiahou Yuan and Li Dan are East of Zhang Fei! You can
eliminate either... depending which particular Tiger General you are!
Go to the East or West Gate (depending on which general you are), get
an extra supply of arrows. Head to the the rivers edge and press L1
then hold the R1 button to help locate the Wei Generals position! Your
map located on the right side will focus on the enemies exact position.
Charge atleast two or three arrows... try to get his life meter atleast
halfway! Take your time this is a delicate process. Make sure the
enemies dizzy then shoot a volly of arrows with your Musou Attack!

Both generals will slowly descend towards the opposing forces on
their side of the river. It's up to you to nail one of them before they
make contact, if they engage enemy troops before you can kill one of
them then your chances will be lost! Xiahou Yuan is harder to kill
because of his position across the river, also there's not much
distance between his troops and Zhao Yun's! Xhu Zhu may run back and
forth across the rivers edge after he's recovered from a Charge
Attack... take this time to power up for a Musou Attack! "REMEMBER"
you'll only have enough ammunition to kill atleast one General!

VII. KEY EVENTS
===============

(A) Dispatching Key Warriors
----------------------------

For every famous warrior you dispatch, you receive bonus points.
You can receive many points while taking your time in the battles. Try
to take out as many generals and famous warriors as you can. Doing that
isn't too difficult during the Yellow Turban Rebellion, but on some of
the other stages you'll encounter a lot of difficulty.

(B) Events
----------

Throughout the battles, specific events will either help or hinder
your movement or cause. The key to events is to react appropriately.
Some of them happen when you reach a particular location in the game,
others are timed. Whenever an event happens, a large flashing circle
will appear on the map in the top right corner of your screen. If you
see in an event movie that your troops are getting wiped out, get over
to their location and help them out.

(C) Location Events
-------------------

Location events occur when troops or certain warriors reach a
particular point. If you've played the level before and know that an
enemy general is going to do some major damage to your plans if he
reaches a particular point, make sure to stop him before he gets there.
Some location events will help you, though many of them won't. Watch
and learn so that when you go through the battle again you'll know what
to expect and when to expect it.

VIII. TRICKS
============

(A) Restart Game
---------------

PRESS: SELECT & START at the same time. The game will immediately
revert to the title screen!

(B) Character Models
--------------------

After each battle is won, wait till the screen switches to the score
board. Press & hold L1 or R1 & your character will rotate enabling you
to see the character in a different perspective!

(C) Free Health
---------------

Find a save point in the game, even if you don't have a memory card.
When the computer asks you if you want to save you can either save or
decline the option. Once you return to the game you will have all of
your health restored.

(D) Boosting Stats by Mount
---------------------------

You must have a Horse to pull this trick off. Try this on a Gate
Captain or any General. Coax the opposition to follow you... while
holding L1 guide your horse to a corner (side of a mountain, fence,
barracks, wall, any tight enclosure, there are usually decent corners
available at most gates). While facing the corner, wait for the quarry
to attack. They'll try to jump & knock you off your steed! At the very
moment they jump... pull back (REMEMBER to continue holding L1), or you
could simply block. They'll land directly infront of your horse... at
that moment, release L1 & charge them. Continue to bowl & attack them
until you reach atleast 24 hits. This will maximize your stat
advantage.

Gate Captains: 8+ Defense
Generals: 8+ Attack

Remedies:
Make sure you neuturalize any archers in the vicinity or they'll
shoot you in the back, also it helps to have your Musou Attack Guage
full. Sometimes other enemy soldiers will try to attack you while your
bowling the Gate Captain or General! Wait till they jump, then press &
hold the Musou Attack!

NOTE: For those characters who have minor problems actually striking
their target while performing this trick (MA CHAO, JIANG WEI, ZHUGE
LIANG, TAISHI CI,) simply tap the "CHARGE" button (TRIANGLE) repeatdly.

(E) Boosting Stats by Bow & Quiver
----------------------------------

Try killing by using your Musou Attack while using the bow. When
killing officers in this manner, you can reach a 28-hit combo; but
instead of receiving "Attack/Defense +1", "+2", or "+4", you can get
"Attack/Defense +8".

(F) Coaxing Zhang Bao
---------------------

While making your way to the ravine where Zhang Bao is located...
stop, move just far enough to get him in your sites, press L2 so you
can confirm his position (switch to first person perspective)! Use your
bow an Arrows and shoot him. In some cases he will run to the adjacent
ravine, but usually he will more than likely come down to attack you!
Then you can finish him off at your own disposal, with NO hassle from
enemy archers & opposing winds!

NOTE: If your skill permits you may even be able to kill him before he
descends down the slope! I usually Charge my first arrow, then I follow
up with a Musou Attack!

(G) Retaliating Retreat
-----------------------

This is a method I usually use when I'm completely outnumbered and
over powered by enemy troops (Comes in quite handy on HARD MODE)!

When bogged down by enemy troops... and you need to make a hasty
retreat, check for any signs of an general trailing you with a steed!
The best way to check is to use your map (it beats turning around to
see), if you see an enemy approaching and thery're moving faster than
you are... then they're on a horse! As soon as they pass you,
immediately shoot him with an arrow! Try to hit him/her before they can
turn around. Hop on the horse and make a faster escape!

NOTE: The same thing goes if an enemy troop is advancing on your
position from in front of you. Snipe them with an arrow, steal their
mount and proceed on your way!

rather dated, it has plenty info regarding the Three Kingdoms. Included
is a discussion board, extensive; pictures, character bios etc. You'll
also find data on military protocol and weaponary during the era,
information on books (novels and comics), games (primarily strategy),

Site Review: This is one of the best sites to go to! It has extensive
information on the Three Kingdoms history, including geography,
summaries on the economy, living conditions, landscape and terrain. You
may have noticed some quotes taken from the site which all have been
credited in this FAQ! The only problem is the site is down 50% of the
time. Try stopping by every now and again you might make get lucky!

BU-CHING'S THREE KINGDOMS:
http://www.geocities.com/Tokyo/Garden/2744/Frames.html

Site Review: Okay, now this website is centered on characters and
geography. Ching's info is accurate, however he uses the Yale system to
translate chinese names. For example: Liu Pei, Ts'ao Ts'ao, and Sun
Ch'uan (instead of Liu Bei, Cao Cao, and Sun Quan). The names are
written the way they are pronounced. This system is used in many

ROMANCE Of the THREE KINGDOMS:
http://hometown.aol.com/liubei98/main.html

Site Review: This is a pretty average site. It has character bios,
pics, quotes, and links. Not much here... but if you ever decide to
write a FAQ or term paper on the Three Kingdoms Era it's definitely a
worth a look!

PHOENIX PAVILLION; LU BAIHU'S SITE:
http://lubaihu.homestead.com/

Site Review: Some of you may be familiar with Lu Baihu on a few of the
Game FAQS message boards! Well here's a shrine of his dedicated to the
Three Kingdoms era. His main focus is primarily on LU BU! This site is
a must for newbies!
