----------------------------------------------
I. BASIC INSTRUCTIONS
----------------------------------------------

Pocket Sakura is a pedometer game based on the
Sakura Taisen video game and television/OVA anime
series. In it, you guide Shinguuji Sakura around
Tokyo. You may tell her where she should go and
she will begin to travel there. She travels by
walking. For every step you take, she takes a
step.

Romaji is used to describe Japanese text in this
document. If the romaji is in all caps (like DEPA-TO),
it is katakana. As time permits, I will replace it with
the appropriate hiragana and katakana. To view it
correctly, you will need to have a program that can
display those characters correctly. Internet Explorer
and Netscape can display Japanese characters with the
appropriate plugins.

A - The MAIN button: this is the main button,
roughly corresponding to the A button
on a Game Boy. With this button, you
can move forward through pages of text,
	confirm selections, and (most importantly!)
	turn the game on.

B - The CANCEL button: this button will cancel
out of any conversation, back out of a
menu, and (second most importantly!) turn
the game off. The game will also turn off
automatically after a while (30 seconds?).
The cancel button is very useful for reading
conversations. As long as a conversation is
unfinished, you	can cancel out of it and
reread it. It is also useful for cancelling
out of travel orders in the "いどう" or "さんさこ"
	menus.

C - The OPTIONS AND SETTINGS button: a menu will
appear when this button is pressed that
will allow you to set the time, alarm,
	sound, music, and contrast.

D - The INFORMATION button lets you see the total
amount of steps you have taken, the number
of steps taken during the past week, and the
number of steps until you reach your next
destination (or the number of steps you have
taken while staying at one location). You may
also browse a picture gallery of every location
you visited and every character you've met.
Also, this button will play the selected tune if
you are in the Alarm or Alert submenus of the
	Options and Settings menu.

E - the LCD screen. This is where all messages, pictures,
	and animations appear.

F - the controller. If Sakura is walking or resting, Left
and Right will let you change the icons at the top
of the screen. Up and Down allow you to navigate
	through any menu.

G - TIME icon; pressing the main button when this is
highlighted causes the time to be displayed in
analog or digital form. The analog clock is
decorated with cherry blossoms. "Sakura" is the
	Japanese word for "cherry blossom".

H - INTERACT icon: this looks like a cluster of cherry
blossoms. Pressing the main button when this is
highlighted allows you to interact with Sakura.
If she is walking to a destination, then she
will say something. If she has arrived,
	she will have either:
		1) a comment about arriving,
		2) a comment about a specific
			location (and perhaps an accompanying
			picture), or
		3) a conversation with a character.

I - PURSE icon: all of the money-related choices in the
game may be accessed here. You can pay for alternate
transportation, play a gambling game, or transmit
or receive money to and from another Pocket Sakura or
to a Sakura Taisen GBC game.

J - STEPS: the number of steps you have taken during the day.

TRAVEL MENU: when resting, pressing the A button will allow
Sakura to travel somewhere else. The two options
that will appear are "いどう" and "さんさこ". "いどう"
lets you travel to another area of the city. "さんさこ"
allows you to travel within the current area. Every
location under "さんさこ" is 1000 steps away.

OPTIONS AND SETTINGS MENU:

			your current location
ギュラリ- (gallery): you may browse through the pictures
of all of the characters and locations
you have met or visited. Use Left and
Right on the controller to browse.
PURSE MENU:
さいふ (purse)
For every 10 steps you take while Sakura is resting at a
location, you earn 1 credit. You can use this money to
pay for alternate transportation, to gamble, or to transfer
	to another game.

	のりもの (transport):
-じんりきしゃ (rickshaw): This costs 200 credits
and moves you 1000 steps closer to the
			destination.
-タカシ (taxi): This costs 700 credits and moves
you 4000 steps closer to the destination.
		-きしゃ (steam train)
This costs 1200 credits and moves you
8000 steps closer to the destination.
さいころ (a die, as in dice)
You can play a gambling game with Sakura, but
only if Sakura is not traveling. The game is
simple: you guess either odd (3-5-7-9-11) or
even (2-4-6-8-10-12), and Sakura rolls two dice.
If the total is odd and you guessed odd, you win
your bet. If the total is even and you guessed
even, you win your bet. Your odds are slightly
better if you bet even (5/11 odds if odd, 6/11
		if even).
	つうしん (communication)
You can transmit money, but only if Sakura is
		not traveling.
-そうしん (transmission): You can transmit to
either another Pocket Sakura or to a
Game Boy Color that is running the Sakura
			Taisen GBC game.
-じゅしん (reception): You can receive money from
another Pocket Sakura, but not from
			Sakura Taisen GBC.

Whenever you go outside Tokyo, Sakura will change from her

her koubu when you leave Tokyo? She will change back
when you re-enter Nihonbashi.

III. WALKTHROUGH
----------------------------------------------

My translations are rather loose, as I am a beginning student.
I would appreciate better translations. Please contact me if
you have some!

Note (1 April 2001): I haven't updated this part since
30 November 2000...

GAME START

(You start in Ginza, which contains the Imperial Theater, a
restaurant, and a park.)

Sakura:
"Mazuha teigeki mode chikimashou."
First, let's go to the theater together.

(500 steps to the theater)

THEATER
Yoneda:
"Sakura hosuukei no chou shiadouda?"
	Sakura ?????'s district ????

Sakura:
"Ryokou desu korewo motte iruto. Doko mo demo 'steps' ite ikemou
na ki ga shimaso (shimasho?)"
It is fashionable that way now. Where, however, should we walk
	to next?

Yoneda:
"Mou kai ganbatte 'steps' ke yo"
	It's best to walk, anyway.

Sakura:
"Hai!"
	Yes!

(Sakura is now waiting for you to tell her where to go next. She
will be in a kneeling position. While she's waiting, you will earn
1 sen for every 10 steps. Remember that you will NOT earn sen
if she's reached her destination and is still in walking mode. You
must return her to waiting mode first.)

(From Ginza, the menus are:)
いどう (go to another district)
	- Nihonbashi (2000 steps)
	- Shiba (2000 steps)
	- Tsukiji (2000 steps)
さんさこ (go somewhere within the current district for 1000 steps)
	- Teito genkijou
	- rengatei
	- Hibiya Kouen ("Hibiya Park")

(If you go to the "rengatei")

Yuri is at the restaurant.

Yuri:
"Sakura-san! Shittemasu? Asakusa kara hirai (birai?) he ikerun
desutte"
Sakura:
"Yuri-san arigatou"

(If you go to "hibiya kouen")

You see a picture of a park full of trees.

Sakura (amazed):
"Kouentte midori ka ibboi deki desu"

Go to the いどう menu and select Nihonbashi.

(Sakura begins walking toward Nihonbashi.)

Eventually, she arrives in Nihonbashi.

theme.

(at the ginkou)

Kasumi greets you.

Kasumi:
"Sugamo kara waujihe ikerusou (ikerumou?) desu yo"

Sakura:
"Kasumi-san arigatou"

Go to the いどう menu and select Ueno.

(at mekifudou)
Sakura sees a statue's angry face (yellow).

Sakura:
"Koko ha goshikifudou no bito/hito tsu desu"

Go to the いどう menu and select Asakusa.

Sakura:
"Bito/hito yasumishite ikimashou"

SANSAKU
	kaminarimon ("thunder gate")
	monmouji
	hanayashiki ("florist")
	Asakusa 12 kai ("12-story building")

(at the kaminarimon)
Sakura visits a shrine with ?? on the lantern.

(at the momouji)
Sakura reaches another building that looks like a shrine.

(at the hanayashiki)
Sakura sees Tsubaki at the florist.

Tsubaki:
"Sakura-san konto. Akasaka ni itte mite kudasai. Ginza ya
Shibuya kara. Ikeru to amoimasu."

Sakura:
"Tsubaki-chan arigatou"
