=== 1. INTRODUCTION ================================================

   About the game
   --------------

The setting of this game is based upon the first fifty of so
episodes of Yuu Yuu Hakusho the TV series, with the Ankoku
Bujutukai (Dark Fighting Tournament) being the main focus.

Yuu Yuu Hakusho 2 is radically different from its prequel - instead
of the innovative anime-style cinematic fighting of the first game,
Namco has taken a more "Street Fighter"-style approach this time
round. Those who are familiar with the Street Fighter games (who
isn't?) would have no trouble getting into this game, but there are
a couple of things to take notice of:

1. In addition to the health gauge, there are also two other gauges:
the stun gauge and the energy (or "ki") gauge.

Whenever your character is hit, the bar in the stun gauge
increases. If the gauge ever gets full, your character is
"dizzied" and won't be able to move or attack until he/she is
   attacked or regains his/her senses.

The energy gauge is a measure of how much reiki/youki
(spiritual/demonic energy) your character possesses. Similar to
SNK's Art of Fighting series, everytime you use a special move,
the gauge decreases. If the gauge is empty, your character won't
   be able to use special moves at all. Don't worry if that happens;
the gauge will gradually fill itself up.

2. All characters have highly damaging "desperation moves". These
can only be executed when the character is at critical health
and when the energy bar is full and flashing. Be careful when to
use them as they consume 100% of your character's energy bar, so
if you miss, you may not get another chance.

   Menu navigation
   ---------------

After pressing Start on the title screen, you will be brought to
the Mode Select screen, which consists of the following options:
1) Story Mode
Follows a plotline very similar to the television
series. You start off using only Yuusuke with no
special moves, but you gain teammates and new moves
      with every stage completed.

2) Daibujutsukai Mode
      Tournament mode. Your character versus
      everyone else, including Toguro 100%.
For those not familiar with the anime series, the
characters on the selection screen are as follows
(order is from left to right, starting at top left corner):
           1) Yuusuke Urameshi
           2) Kazuma Kuwabara
           3) Shuichi Minamino aka Kurama
           4) Hiei
           5) Genkai
          *6) "Fukumen Senshi"
          *7) Shoujo Genkai
           8) Suzaku
           9) Chuu
          10) Jin
          11) Shishiwakamaru
          12) Toguro 30%
         *13) Toguro 80%
         *14) Toguro 100%

      * - These are hidden characters that require a secret
          input code to unlock them.
See the section "OTHER GAME-RELATED STUFF" for more
          details.

3) Battle Mode
One on one battle against the computer or another
human player. You get to pick the background stage
(order is from left to right, starting at top left corner):
           1) Park
           2) Hospital roof
           3) Warehouse
           4) Genkai's dojo
           5) Suzaku's chamber
           6) Inside Suikin's mansion
           7) Ankoku Arena
           8) Ankoku Dome

4) Training Mode
No health or energy gauge in this mode, you
can practice your special moves and combos here.

5) Sound Mode - Sound and music test.

   Notation used in this FAQ
   -------------------------

As some of the special moves are unorthodox in execution compared
to other SNES fighting games, I decided to use a notation system
slightly different to the standard found in most FAQs.

For all the moves listed in this FAQ, the player is on the left side
of the screen, facing right.

Directions correspond to the keypad layout on a computer keyboard:

        7 8 9
      Up-left Up Up-right

        4 5 6
      Left N/A Right

        1 2 3
      Down-left Down Down-right

X  = X button
Y  = Y button
A  = A button
B  = B button
L  = L button
R  = R button

WP = Weak punch (Default joypad configuration is Y button)
SP = Strong punch (Default joypad configuration is X button)
WK = Weak kick (Default joypad configuration is B button)
SK = Strong kick (Default joypad configuration is A button)
P  = Any punch button
K  = Any kick button

+ = Push at the same time
.. = Hold for at least 2 microseconds
() = Push buttons enclosed in the parentheses at the same time

Example:
4..6+X = Press and hold left for 2 microseconds,
then press right and X button at the same time.

   Note on Japanese names
   ----------------------

The translations of the special moves are based on their
kanji compounds; though I try to use the closest English
approximation, some may sound a tad awkward... I'm not a native
speaker of Japanese, so cut me some slack!

=== 2. CHARACTERS IN THE GAME ======================================

   Yuusuke Urameshi
   ----------------

Bio: A juvenile delinquent whose life changed after he was killed
in a car accident rescuing a young boy. Brought back to life
as a Reikai Tantei (Spirit World Investigator), he now works
with his friends to protect the Ningenkai (Human World) from
the threats of the Makai (Demon World). He possesses strong
spiritual and (later in the series) demonic energy.

Unique Abilities: None.

Special Moves:

Reigan (Spirit Ball)
236+P

Yuusuke's trademark move. He fires a ball of concentrated
     spiritual energy at the opponent.

Shotgun
623+P

Yuusuke delivers an uppercut while releasing a large burst
of energy. SP version has him moving forward.

Spin Kick
623+K

A move that doesn't consume energy. Yuusuke does an axe kick
     similar to Toguro's Senpuukyaku.

Desperation Move:

Chou-Reigan (Super Reigan)
632146+(X+R)

All of Yuusuke's energy is put into this one shot. Devastating
damage to the opponent if it hits.

Tako Naguri (Octopus Assault)
612346+X

Unblockable move that can only be performed when health gauge
is under 20%, stun gauge is empty and energy gauge is full.
Yuusuke charges forward and unleashes a long flurry of blows,
     ending with an uppercut.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

   Kazuma Kuwabara
   ---------------

Bio: An unofficial Reikai Tantei, Kuwabara is Yuusuke's best friend
and number one rival in high school. Though his combat skills
are not that great compared to the others, he has incredible
endurance and willpower as shown many times in the television
     series.

Unique Abilities: Can dash forward by pressing 66.

Special Moves:

Reiken (Spirit Sword)
214+P

Kuwabara produces a sword of spiritual energy in his hand and
swings it downward at the opponent. WP version grazes the
opponent while SP version knocks them down. Kuwabara is
invulnerable during the execution of this move.

Shuidashaken (First Batter Sword)
41236+P

A defensive move, Kuwabara hits any projectile fired at him
back at the opponent. Won't work on desperation move
     projectiles like Chou-Reigan.

Dash Reiken
4..6+K

Kuwabara charges at the opponent with his Reiken. WK version
grazes the opponent while SK version knocks them down.

Reiken Nitouryuu (Reiken Twin Blade Style)
236+P

Kuwabara creates two Reiken and slashes at the opponent.
Doesn't connect if opponent is too close.

Desperation Move:

Kyodai-Reikibou (Giant Spirit Energy Staff)
263214+(X+R)

Identical to his Reiken move, only it does more damage.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

   Shuichi Minamino aka Kurama
   ---------------------------

Bio: Youko Kurama was one of the most dangerous demon outlaws in
all of Makai - until he was forced to flee into the
Ningenkai as a soul, after he was critically wounded during
a chase. His soul entered the womb of a human woman, where
he slowly recuperated. Later the woman gave birth to a child,
Shuichi, who although is human in form, his soul is still
the demon Kurama's. Because of his human body, Kurama is
weaker in power than when he was a full-fledged demon, but
he still has superb intelligence and an unnatural ability
of plant control. He became one of Yuusuke's comrades after
Yuusuke's first assignment as a Reikai Tantei.

Unique Abilities: None.

Special Moves:

Rose Whip
236+P

Kurama creates a thorny whip out of a rose and swings it
     at the opponent.

Fuuka Enbujin (Wind Flower Waltz Stance)
2..8+P

Kurama surrounds himself with flower petals that cut
anyone foolish enough to get close to them.

Sliding
3+K

A move that doesn't consume energy. Kurama does a slide kick
     similar to Yuusuke's sweep kick.

Desperation Move:

Youko Henka (Demon Fox Transformation)
412362+(A+R)

For a short time, Kurama reverts to his true form and
summons giant carnivorous plants that charge at the
     opponent.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

   Hiei
   ----

Bio: A taciturn demon who possesses a Jagan, an "evil third eye",
on his forehead. He is very fast with his sword and can slash
at least sixteen times in one second. As a Jagan-shi he can
conjure up black flames that are reputed to be from Hell
itself. He became one of Yuusuke's comrades after Yuusuke's
first assignment as a Reikai Tantei.

Unique Abilities: Can dash forward by pressing 66.

Special Moves:

Jaou Ensatsu Rengokushou (Tyrant Immolation Purgatory Incineration)
Press P rapidly

     A flurry of burning punches.

Jaou Ensatsu Ken (Tyrant Immolation Sword)
41236+P

Hiei envelops his sword with dark flames and slashes at the
     opponent.

Zanzou (Afterimage)
263+X

With his speed, Hiei creates an illusion of himself standing
still. The illusion disappears when struck, with Hiei himself
appearing behind the opponent, ready to deliver a surprise
     attack.

Fumitsuke (Trample)
2+K (while in the air and right above the opponent)

A move that doesn't consume energy. Hiei hops on the opponent's
     head.

Desperation Move:

Jaou Ensatsu Kokuryuuha (Tyrant Immolation Black Dragon Wave)
632146+(X+R)

Using his Jagan, Hiei conjures a dragon of black flames and
     directs it at the opponent.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

   Genkai
   ------

Bio: Genkai is the sole user of the Reikou Hadouken (Spirit
Light Surge Fist) combat style. She became Yuusuke's
mentor after Yuusuke's second assignment, when he
unintentionally passed Genkai's trial of challenges
to become her successor. Despite her old age, she is a
     very strong fighter.

Unique Abilities: None.

Special Moves:

Reigan (Spirit Ball)
236+P (can also be done in the air)

Other than its shape, Genkai's Reigan does about the
     same damage as Yuusuke's.

Reikoudan (Spirit Light Shots)
623+P

Like Yuusuke's Shotgun, except Genkai doesn't move
     forward in the SP version.

Reikou Kyouhanshou (Spirit Light Mirror Counterstrike)
63214+P

A countermove, Genkai catches any projectiles thrown
at her and reflects it back at the opponent.

Hiryuukyaku (Flying Dragon Kick)
4..6+K

A move that doesn't consume energy. Genkai does a flying
kick that goes across the screen.

Desperation Move:

Chou-Reigan (Super Reigan)
632146+(X+R)

     Like Yuusuke's, only larger.

Abare-Hiryuu (Violent Flying Dragon)
632141236+A (must be standing next to opponent)

Unblockable move that can only be performed when
health gauge is under 20%, stun gauge is empty and
energy gauge is full. Genkai unleashes a flurry of blows,
     finishing with a Hiryuukyaku.

         "Fukumen Senshi" (masked Genkai)
         --------------------------------

Bio: A mystery member of Yuusuke's team at the
Ankoku Bujutsukai, it was later discovered
to be Genkai who was behind the turban.

Unique Abilities: Can triangle jump (rebound off the
side of the screen) and air throw
(press 6+SP or 4+SP while in the air).

      Special Moves:

      Reigan (Spirit Ball)
      236+P

Same as before, except that it can't be
           shot from the air.

      Reikoudan (Spirit Light Shots)
      623+P

           Nothing different about this one.

      Hiryuukyaku (Flying Dragon Kick)
      4..6+K

A move that doesn't consume energy. Fukumen
does a flying kick that goes across the screen.

      Desperation Move:

Shu no Ken (Fist of Mastery)
      1..236+SP

           An unblockable attack. Fukumen charges
forward and with three powerful strikes
           she eliminates all 'impurities' within
           the opponent.

      Abare-Hiryuu (Violent Flying Dragon)
632141236+A (must be standing next to opponent)

Unblockable move that can only be performed when
health gauge is under 20%, stun gauge is empty and
energy gauge is full. Fukumen unleashes a flurry of blows,
           finishing with a Hiryuukyaku.

         Shoujo Genkai (teenage Genkai)
         ------------------------------

Bio: Performing the highest form of Reikou
           Hadouken sometimes temporarily rejuvenates
the user's body back to the time when he
or she was most active. In her teenage body,
Genkai is more agile and can double jump as
well as triangle jump off the side of the
           screen.

Unique Abilities: Can double jump (jump again while in the air),
triangle jump (rebound off the side of the screen)
and air throw (press 6+SP or 4+SP while in the air).

      Special Moves:

      Reigan (Spirit Ball)
236+P (can also be done in the air)

Other than its shape, Genkai's Reigan does about the
           same damage as Yuusuke's.

      Reikoudan (Spirit Light Shots)
      623+P

Like Yuusuke's Shotgun, except Genkai doesn't move
           forward in the SP version.

      Hiryuukyaku (Flying Dragon Kick)
      4..6+K

A move that doesn't consume energy. Genkai does a
flying kick that goes across the screen.

632141236+A (must be standing next to opponent)

Unblockable move that can only be performed when
health gauge is under 20%, stun gauge is empty and
energy gauge is full. Genkai unleashes a flurry of blows,
           finishing with a Hiryuukyaku.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

   Suzaku
   ------

Bio: The leader of the "Four Holy Beasts", a gang of four
powerful demons that had plotted to take over the
Ningenkai... until Yuusuke and his friends foiled
their plan by raiding their tower and eliminating them
one at a time. His unique power was the ability to
split and multipy into seven of himself, each one of
them capable of attacking the opponent. Suzaku was
killed by Yuusuke when the latter used his entire
lifeforce to deliver a great Shotgun attack to all
     of his seven forms.

Unique Abilities: Can air throw (press 6+SP or 4+SP while in the air).

lightning arrow down at the opponent.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

   Chuu
   ----

Bio: Chuu is a demon who loves drinking as much as he loves
fighting. In the fight with Yuusuke at the Ankoku
Bujutsukai, both of them used up all their energies
and had to resort to hand-to-hand melee, which in the
end Yuusuke won by having out-headbutted Chuu. Needless
to say they became fast friends after the match was over.

Unique Abilities: None.

Special Moves:

     through some projectiles.

Desperation Move:

C. Headbutt
63214+(X+R) (must be standing next to opponent)

An unblockable move. Chuu tosses the opponent into
the air and on the way down he delivers a whopping
     headbutt.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

   Jin
   ---

Bio: An easygoing demon, Jin is a master of the winds. He
joined the tournament because he wanted to bring light
to the Makai. He fought against Yuusuke in the
tournament, and both of them knocked each other out
of the ring, and as a result the match was a tie.
He later became Yuusuke's friend, promising to have
     a rematch.

Unique Abilities: Can air throw (press 6+SP or 4+SP while in the air).

Special Moves:

Bakufuu Shouheki (Cyclone Barrier)
623+P

Strong winds envelop Jin, shielding him from attacks
and at the same time harming anyone who gets too close.

Shura Senpuuken (Asura Tornado Fist)
214+P (can also be done in the air)

Jin creates a small tornado around his fist and
charges forward. The air version has him diving down
     at an angle.

Kuuchuu Fuyuu (Aerial Floatation)
2+K (while in the air)

A move that doesn't consume energy. A taunt move
that does no damage, Jin just hovers in a sitting
     position high in the air.

with a tornado around each fist, he dives down
directly on top of the opponent.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

   Shishiwakamaru
   --------------

Bio: A skilled demon swordsman, Shishiwakamaru
wields the Makokumeizanken, an unusual sword
which has the ability to summon soul-devouring
spirits. He was defeated by Genkai in the
tournament when all his energies were absorbed
and reflected back at him using her Reikou
     Kyouhanshou attack.

Unique Abilities: None.

Special Moves:

Makokumeizanken (Demon Cry Dark Slash Sword)
236+P

A projectile move, Shishiwakamaru summons a
couple of skull spirits at the opponent.

Onkoshoubakuheki (Resentful Call Hinder Binding Wall)
2..8+P

Shishiwakamaru spins his sword in the air

   Toguro 30%
   ----------

Bio: Fifty years ago, when Toguro used to be human, he
had fought in many tournaments, with Genkai
fighting alongside him. That all changed when a
demon came their dojo and killed everyone. Since
then, Toguro had blamed himself for not being able
to protect them. He believed that as a human, he
was simply too weak. So in order to gain more power,
he sold his soul and became a demon himself. (His
older brother also did the same thing, but for more
sinister reasons.) Toguro has the ability to
increase his physique and muscle structure, thus
increasing his physical prowess as well as his
     Demonic power.

Unique Abilities: None.

Special Moves:

Senpuukyaku (Cyclone Kick)
214+K

Toguro does a spin in the air and delivers an axe
     kick.

Knuckle Crusher

Toguro pounds into the ground, sending up a wide

Darkness Body Blow

Unblockable attack. In an instant, Toguro appears
right next to the opponent and deals a gut punch
     for incredible damage.

Toguro pounds into the ground, sending up
a wide burst of energy. The burst created
in this version is much larger than
           before.

         Toguro 100%
         -----------

Bio: At level 100%, Toguro's appearance
           completely changes, and his body
becomes like a tank, having both
           extremely high attack and defence.

      Unique Abilities: None.

      Special Moves:

      2..8+P

           A strong aura envelops Toguro,

A move that doesn't consume energy.
           Toguro knocks jumping opponents out
of the air with a jumping tackle.

      Desperation Move:

      Full Power Tackle
      4..1236+(X+R)

           Unblockable attack. As the name
           suggests, Toguro charges forward
at "100% of 100%" power. Nothing
can stop him, so the best course
of action is to jump out of the
           way!
