1.1 - About this FAQ
-------------------------------

This FAQ was started in late 1999, but hasn't actually been heavily
worked on until June 2000, and, didn't see release until (?).
By the time this FAQ is complete, the game is old, and obsolete,
but, I don't care. I wanted to do this, it took me a while, but, I
did do it!

Any corrections, submissions, questions, comments, and marraige
proposals may be sent to me, Jp, at jp7010@yahoo.com .

You can find this FAQ at www.GameFAQS.com , the greatest source for
anything on video games, anywhere on the Internet!

You will also probably find this FAQ at my website, when I get
around to making it.

Oh, and this FAQ is copyright (C) John Pirrone, 2000.
Distribution of this FAQ for profit is illegal, and, stupid..
You may post this FAQ on your website, but, you must give me proper
credit, and, I would appreciate a message of notification if you do.

1.2 - About Rippin' Riders
-------------------------------

Rippin' Riders is made by UEP Systems. UEP also made Cool Boarders
1, and 2, Cool Boarders for the portable systems, and Thrasher: Skate
and Destroy. I'm pretty sure they also played a part in Cool Boarders
3, and 4.. but, I'm not sure, I think 989 took over the rights for
those two.

Rippin' Riders Snowboarding was known as Cool Boarders Burrrn in
Japan, but, Sony owns the rights to the 'Cool Boarders' name here
in America, so, they had to change the name.
Yeah, we got real lucky with that name change...
(Anyone know what this game is called in Europe, and Austrailia?)

This game was published by Sega, as Dreamcast's first snowboarding
game. And Dreamcast's only one until fall 2000 when Boarder Zone
comes out.

Anyways, the games features(from the back of the box);

-3 Games Modes available: Free Ride, Super
Pipe, & Match Race for two players

-Full collection of tricks & moves

-Seven main characters, with unique styles and
      varying degrees of snowboarding skills

-Silky smooth graphics at 60 frames per second

Oh, and this game was rated E for Everyone by the ESRB

1.3 - Version History
-------------------------------

  0.5 - 6/22/2000
    - First release, more than i had thought would be out, yay!
    - Note: Much of this FAQ is from the manual.
    - Thanks to lini, for letting me use some of the stuff from his
    FAQ in this one.
    A couple requests:
      - The ASCII at the top is pretty bad, anyone wanna help me make
    a new one?
      - I need help with how mistys and manuals are graded.
      - I don't know much, if anything, about Jimmy, and his boards,
    any help?

======================================================================

======================================================================
2. M O D E S O F P L A Y
======================================================================
*All taken from the manual:

-------------------------------
2.1 - Free Ride
-------------------------------
These sloped courses feature a variety of obstacles and numerous
checkpoints, where extra time can be earned by performing tricks.
Make sure your boarder makes it to the goal within the allotted time,
or you're a loser!

-------------------------------
2.2 - Super Pipe
-------------------------------
Bust multiple tricks and catch tons of air in this gnarly halfpipe
mode. Make sure your boarder makes it to the finish line at the end
of the course within the allotted time and then watch as the total
performance results are displayed. In addition to the points acquired
along the way, the overall evaluation also includes the content and
the form of the tricks performed.

-------------------------------
2.3 - Match Race
-------------------------------

-----------------
2.3.1 - Battle
-----------------
Compete against your favorite rival using this novel racing mode where
trick expertise is key. By busting tricks you can earn attacking power
or extra thrust, both of which can have more effect on the race outcome
than mere speed.

----
2.3.1.1 - Line Versus
----
A completely new and unique aspect to this mode is the ability to win
a match by using the split-screen to your advantage. Execute tricks to
effect a "line attack" which will move the dividing line of the split
screen, shrinking your opponents screen, making their race much harder.
If done enough times, you can even shut them completely out, and win.

----
2.3.1.2 - Trick Boost
----
In this battle mode, use the Guard Button to give your boarder a
jet-boost that will propel them at super high velocity. However,
activating the speed boost requires "boost power points" which can
only be received by earning trick points at the trick areas.

-----------------
2.3.2 - free race
-----------------
This mode is for those who prefer a pure and unadulterated race.
Select whether you want to compete in time, trick, or total.
You can even set a handicap, setting the handicap will give the
lagging boarder a bit of extra speed.

4.2 - Rotation Tricks
-------------------------------
-"To perform a rotation trick while riding, press and hold the Jump
Button while pressing the D-Pad or Analog Stick in the direction
you wish the border to rotate. Once you release the Jump Button, the
boarder will rotate in mid-air in the direction the D-Pad or Analog
Stick was pressed." - Taken from the Instruction manual.
-Hold down (A) + the direction to spin faster.

BUTTON COMBO.....TRICK(POINTS)

<L] or [R>.......Spin 180(110)
/U\..............Flip/Johan Flip(250)
\D/..............B.Flip(270)
(Diagonals)......Misty

*Each additional 180 after the initial 180 is worth 90 points.
*Each additional flip is worth the same as the initial flip.

-----------------
4.2.1 - Mistys
-----------------
NOTE: I am not sure how the Misty point system works.
Here is what i know:

MISTYs:
TRICK............POINTS

Misty 180........???
Misty 360........430
Misty 540........520
Misty 720........???
Misty 900........950
Misty 1080.......1040

-If anyone sees a pattern between 540 and 900, please
email me.
-If anyone knows the point values for 180, 720, or 1240+
please email me.

-------------------------------
4.3 - Ground Tricks
-------------------------------
Perform these tricks while just.. boarding along the ground.

BUTTON COMBO.....TRICK(POINTS)

/U\ + (B)........Front Manual(100)
\D/ + (B)........Wheelie Manual(100)

-The point value grows as you hold the manual longer.
-I am not sure how many points per second it increases.
-Apparently, the more manuals you do, the base value increases.
I've had the base value start at 130, and 180.
-I have only found one mode of play where you get points for
manuals; Line Versus, a Battle Mode in Match Race.
-..It is a good cheap way to win Line Versus, altough.

-------------------------------
4.4 - Specialty Tricks
-------------------------------
Each character has their own specialty moves:
-One-step sepcialties(DJ Ken's moves) are worth 180 points.
-Two-step specialties are worth 250 points, plus the
first trick.
-Three-step specialties(Monica's Born to be Free, etc)
are worth 450 points, plus the first two tricks.

JIMMY;
Nosegrab: [R]+\D/, (B)
Rewind: ?? *Manual screwed up

AXEL;
Judo: (B), [R]+/U\
Karate: [R]+\D/, [R]

TIA;

Aquarius(250): (B)+/U\, [R]

RONNIE;

Junk Split: (B)+\D/, (B), [R]+\D/

MONICA;

Born to be Free:(B)+\D/, [R]+\D/, [R]

D.J. KEN;
Missile: (B)+(Y)+/U\
Rocket Dive: (B)+(Y)+\D/

BOB;
Carbine: [B]+/U\, [R]
King Step: (B)+\D/, [R]+\D/, [R]+/U\

*I am not sure if Snowman, or Gray have special moves, do they?

-------------------------------
4.5 - Point system
-------------------------------

-All tricks are worth base value listed.
-In combos, the second trick is worth ABOUT one and a fourth of it's
base value(eg, an Indy's worth 125, instead of 100)
-..And the third trick is worth ABOUT one and a half of it's base
value (eg, an Indy's worth 150, instead of 100)
-Doing a combo 'Fakie' adds 20 points to the combo.
-Doing a spin 'B.Side' takes away 20 points from the spin.
-Each specialty move is worth 250 points.
-..But, since you have to do 1 or two tricks before the boarder does
the specialty move, you get the points for those, as well.
-Holding a trick will get you a larger 'finish'.
-You cannot do the same trick twice in a row.
*I'm not sure how the Finish system works, a mix between landing,
length of combo, complexity, and so on, i think.

-An example broken down:
I did a Fakie B.Side 540, with a Tail Grab, and Mute.

SCREEN SAYS......BROKEN DOWN
Fakie 20....+20 for doing it Fakie.
Tail Grab 120...Tail Grab initial value of 120.
Mute 187...Mute(150) + 1/4th Mute Value(150/4 = 37)
B.Side 540 270...180(110) + 180(90) + 180(90) - B.Side(20)
Finish 177...Uh, I dunno...

-------------------------------
8.1 - Characters
-------------------------------

There are 2 secret characters:
The Snowman, and Gray the Alien.

You get the Snowman for beating the high score(i'm not sure if it's time,
trick, total, or all) in the ending course.

You get Gray for just beating the Secret Force track.

Unfortunately in the domestic version, there is no third secret character,
he is replaced with Jimmy(gee, aren't we lucky?).

-------------------------------
8.2 - Costumes
-------------------------------

Every standard character has a third costume.

I'm not sure how to get the 3rd costumes. I know i've gotten them by
beating the first 6 courses with the character's first costume, than
beating the first 5 courses with their second costume.

I'm unsure if Jimmy, Gray, or the Snowman have third costumes.

-------------------------------
8.3 - Courses
-------------------------------

Only the one I know of, The Secret Force.

Get this by beating all one of the score-types(trick/time/total) in
the 5 main tracks.

-------------------------------
8.4 - Boards
-------------------------------

Each standard board has a second graphical version. I'm not sure how
to get them, though.

And there are the Special boards, which you get for beating all the
high scores in a score-type.

And the super-secret board you get for beating the high score in
everything, everywhere.

Jimmy might have secret boards, but, I dunno, any help?

-I havn't beaten the grade ranking in extra super pipe, something
may be waiting for us beyond that?

-I'm unsure if there are third costumes for Jimmy, Snowman, and Gray,
anyone know?

-I'm unsure if Snowman and Gray have special moves, anyone know?

-I'm unsure if Jimmy has hidden boards, anyone?

uh, I don't have many people to give special thanks to..

-UEP for making this game,

-Sega for publishing it...

-lini, for letting me use some of the stuff from his FAQ on this one.
Specifically, specialty moves, and other things that I can't remember.

And other FAQS I have(planned ones):
-Tony Hawk DC
-Tony Hawk 2 DC
-MTV Skateboarding DC
-Boarder Zone DC
but, we'll see, those are all in the planning stages, since 3 out of
4 of those games have yet to be released....
I might also work on FAQs for the odcm demo disks, since those seem to
be issues of request on GameFAQs.com
