Intro
_____

Almost everyone that's played the classic hit 'Skate or Die'
will tell you the same thing. The ramp is what makes this
game, and is the only thing that matters. The ramp can be
accessed from the start by skating from the skate shop to
the 'freestyle' area. There you find 'the ramp' a simple
half-pipe with a roll-in on the left side serving as the
only real obstacle. The player is limited to 10 "passes", or
trips from one side of the ramp to the other and must
ultimately put together a run that will net a ton of points.
The gameplay is what shines through and gives the game an
addictive edge. Dropping in from the left side of the ramp,
the player can pump the A button to gain speed, and certain
button combinations performed while on the lip of the ramp
and in the air result in different tricks. While the tricks
may be simple and without much variety, the lure of beating
your high score and learning new tricks keep you coming back
to this game. If you've grown accustomed to the controls in
Skate or Die 2, you may need to do a little deprogramming,
as it plays considerably different in the original.

Move List
_________

IMPORTANT NOTE: Doing a trick over the roll-in doubles the
points awarded for that trick (only applicable for ollie
tricks)

---- ------------------ --------------
Move The How-To Points Awarded
---- ------------------ --------------

Ollie Pump until after you 25
               leave the lip of the
               ramp

540 Ollie Pump moderately, ollie 800
               pressing either
               direction on the D pad,
               press the opposite
               direction to stop the
               spin

720 Ollie Same as 540 except pump 1150
               a lot more and
               rythmatically.

360 Ollie Much like the 720 only 550
               with less pump

Tailslide Don't pump too much on Depends on how
the way up, press far you slide
               diagonal down to down (350-650+)
               in the direction you are
               headed (the opposite if
               you are headed up), let
               off the 'down' button
               when you want to stop

Tail Stall Go about doing a Varies, but
tailslide but let off the usually about
D pad as soon as you make 230 points
               contact

Handplant Pump a lot, your pump Varies,
               determines how well it sometimes
turns out, press back and upwards of 850
B while on the lip of the points
               ramp, you must use
               precise timing, hold the
               position for as long as
               you can for maximum
               points

Alley-oop Same as handplant only 300
               with moderate pumping,
               start holding B from the
               black zone of the flat-
               bottom

Tweak You can tweak out your Adds 50 points
ollie moves by pressing to the total of
A in the air a trick (in
                                             some cases even
                                             more)

NOTE: I am sure there are tricks out there I'm missing.
Sometimes I'll be playing the game and pull of a move that I
don't even know how I pulled off.

_______
Bonuses
_______

After each run you are awarded a bonus according to how
diverse your run is (i.e. how many different tricks you do,
regardless of how many times you do them)

1 original trick - 500 bonus points
2-3 tricks - 1000 bonus points
4-5 tricks - 2000 bonus points
6-7 tricks - 4000 bonus points
8-9 tricks - 6000 bonus points
10 original tricks - 8000 bonus points

____________
General Tips
____________

*Stay away from the edges, they're a dangerous area.
Try to perfom tricks away from the nearest edge of the ramp
and towards the far side

*Pulling a trick over the roll-in can be rewarding, but you
must be very careful around it. Don't touch it at any time
or you bust, only do tricks *over* it, and when you do make
sure to get huge air and not to land near the roll-in

*Put together a diverse run. While doing 10 720's in a row
can get you a lot of points, there is also bonus points
rewarded after the run based on originality. Doing the same
move over and over will not win you many originality points,
but pulling off 5-6 different moves will net you an extra
6000 points!

*Practice practice practice. It takes time to get the
landing on a 720 just right, and pulling one off over the
roll-in will be a task, but once you get it mastered, it's a
great feeling.

____________
Winning Runs
____________

A couple of runs straight from my playbook

*Tailslide + 720 over roll-in + 720 + handplant + alley-oop +
720 over roll-in + tail stall/720 + short tailslide + 720 +
720 over roll-in
I play around with this one the most, if you can pull it off
to perfection, it will net around 18000, with 6000 points
from bonus

*Doing 10 720's in a row, over the roll-in when going up the
left side, will net you 17750, with only 500 coming from
bonus points

_____________
High Scores
For Comparison
_____________

My high score:
   21026

On a normal day an 18000 run is excellent, but on a few
occasions I can get around 19000.
