Super Smash Brothers. This is N64 at it's best. Although it is considered a
fighting game, SSB is hardly traditional. One of the weirdest styles that have
ever been created. This game was made for insane fun, and it has succeeded
like nothing else could.

Although the insanely fun engine is pretty simple, even simple games have some
forms of strategy behing them. Enjoy the guide.

My e-mail is lazysilverwolf@youareadork.com Be forewarned though as if your
email is pointless (see below) I will delete and ignore it. No question about

The following are the messages I will answer.
:: Webmasters who want to host this guide

:: General Talk on the Game or this FAQs
:: Anything I might find helpful

Not only will I not answer the following, but I'll delete them on sight and add
your email to my filter.
  :: Questions already answered
:: Questions regarding how to play the game
:: Questions on how to beat a part of the game*
  :: Questions about another game
:: Question not related to something in this FAQ
:: Death Threats - yes, I've gotten these before**

:: SPAM - I don't care for your half assed money making schemes
:: Chain Letters - what would compel you to think I would want these
:: Anything Rude - this is obvious
:: No subject line - not worth my time if you can't even write a subject line

 * This one really annoys me. There are plenty of great guides out there that
are written for the express purpose of helping you through the game. Check
those (listed in the credits section). My guide is written for playing as
Samus, not written as a walkthrough. If I were willing to write an email
explaining how to beat something, I would've put it in here. If it's not
here, then I probably won't write it, be it into this guide or in email.

** These get special treatment. I don't just delete them and filter your
e-mail, I will report these to your ISP. This will get your internet
connection summarily terminated. Also, as far as death threats, or any
threats and things that are illegal activities, they will be reported to
the police, or any other authorities. I will not hesitate. I've gotten
people expelled from high school when they e-mailed a death threat using
a school computer. I do not tolerate crap of any kind.

If I haven't covered whatever type of message you might want to send, rest
assured it's most like one that I will not answer.

If you can't find it there, use Ctrl + F. This will let you search the
document making it easier to find things.

Please note, I do not check my e-mail everyday, in fact I only check it weekly.
Even when I check it, it may take weeks to answer as I do have a job, school
and my own life to deal with.

Also, I am sorry for the restrictions, but I have recieved an enormous amount
of unwanted mail. This is the only way I can deal with it. Especially
considering some of the crap I've gotten before.

 1.4 Why Play as Samus?
+=-~-=+=-~-=+=-~-=+=-~-=+=-~-=+=-~-=+=-~-=+=-~-=+=-~-=+=-~-=+=-~-=+=-~-=+=-~-=+

There are popular characters in SSB like every other game. Many people like
Ness, Captain Falcon, Link, ect. Not many people seem to understand the use of
Samus. Sure, the popular characters are good, but the problem with them is
that they all have one track strategies, and for the most part, it's half assed
and only works on certain opponents.

Samus is very well rounded. Decent jumping ability, nice array of moves,
decent speed, and has high rewards for successful moves. Samus is pretty high
risk if you play offensively, but if you play her the way you're meant to play
her, defensively, you've got one of the best (if not the best) character in the
game.

Watch other people play. You'll notice most people try the offensive, go after
the opponent, knock them off the ledge, and keep them off. If you see a Samus
player, though, you'll notice that they let the opponent come at them and ADAPT
to the strategy. This way, you can use what they do against them. It's as
close to unstoppable as you can get.

 2.1 Charge Shot
+=-~-=+=-~-=+=-~-=+=-~-=+=-~-=+=-~-=+=-~-=+=-~-=+=-~-=+=-~-=+=-~-=+=-~-=+=-~-=+

This is a highly underrated move. When people see you using it, they most
likely won't be impressed. They thing it's a crap move because it takes so
long to charge, and it's pretty slow. Use this to your advantage. If you are
ever away from opponents, just sit there and charge. Keeping a fully charged
blast is never bad.

To use it, it gets tricky. My favorite way is against aggressive opponents.
Let them come after you. Then start running away like a mad man. They will
most likely chase you. When you get near a ledge, jump backwards and over
them. Most people will be dumb and try a charge attack. When you are on
level, blast them. They usually don't have enough recovery to get away. The
nice thing about this is that even if they do recover, most will try to block
it. If you block a fully charged shot, the character is held in the shield for
quite some time, giving you a good chance to take advantage. The problem with
this method is when people catch on. They do this pretty fast, so don't over
use this.

Another method is when people are trying to come back to the ledge. If you
watch some opponents, you'll notice that they are left wide open (Ness' PK
Thunder, Fox's Fire Fox). When they are coming back up, just shoot them.

Another trick is to stand decently far away. If you have enough distance, and
shoot it, they will most likely jump, in which point you can run up and use the
Screw Attack.

 2.2 Screw Attack
+=-~-=+=-~-=+=-~-=+=-~-=+=-~-=+=-~-=+=-~-=+=-~-=+=-~-=+=-~-=+=-~-=+=-~-=+=-~-=+

First off, ignore the name, please. Alright, now then, out of all of Samus'
special attacks, this one is by far the best. It's main priority is to use it
as a thrid jump. It helps a lot.

When using it as an attack, you need to remember that this can hit all other
characters. For some odd reason, some people seem to think it only works on
one character at a time. I don't know how they got that conception, as no move
in SSB is like that. Also, it can go through most platforms. Very useful when
opponents are going after items and right above you.

This move has amazing priority. If timed right, it can actually cancel most
all other moves in the game. Learn to time this against characters and you
will be able to nail them anytime they let their guard down.

The problem with this move is the recovery. If you don't manage to hit all the
opponents next to you, you're left wide open. Samus is complete immobile until
she lands. Be careful.

If you try to hurt people with this, you'll be laughed at. It has one useful
purpose. If you get knocked up high, use this constantly to keep opponents
away while you land. Very annoying for your opponent to jump into a wave of
bombs.

- A - Does a straight jab hit. If you press it twice in a row,
she'll follow the first one up with an overhead smack
                      using her blaster.

- Hold Forward + A - Does a spinning side kick. Fast, but pretty worthless.

- Hold Down + A - Sweep in front of Samus. Worthless.

- Hold Up + A - Samus will bring one foot over her head and slam it down.
If you've played Tekken 2/3 you'll notice it's the same
                      as Baek/Hwoarang's Dynamic Heal, respectively.

- Tap Forward + A - Samus will pull her blaster back and quickly recoil it
forward. Fast and effective. This is easily send
                      damaged opponents flying.

- Tap Down + A - This will produce a sweep that hits everything in front
of Samus, then everything behind Samus. Pretty useful,
as it'll knock an opponent up if it connects.

- Tap Up + A - This will produce an overhead flamethrower. Use it if
opponents try to jump in at you. It's kind of hard to
use, but if you can get the timind down, the rewards are
worth it. The Flamethrower can hit a total of five times

+=-~-=+=-~-=+=-~-=+=-~-=+=-~-=+=-~-=+=-~-=+=-~-=+=-~-=+=-~-=+=-~-=+=-~-=+=-~-=+

Samus is the best air to air fighter in the game, in my opinion. She can cover
herself when landing, hit multiple enemies and sent them in every direction.

            *   *   *   *   *   *   *   *   *   *   *   *   *   *   *

- A - Samus will just do a short jump kick. Not that great. It's
                  still pretty decent though.

- Forward + A - Samus will do a forward Flamethrower that starts off high and
ends low. If you're coming back onto a ledge with an enemy
standing waiting to knock you off again, try and use this as
                  cover.

- Down + A - Samus will swing her cannon under her. If this connects, and
your opponent is in the end, it'll send them straight down.
This is extremely useful when someone is trying to jump back
onto the ledge. If you can time it right, you'll knock them
straight down, earning a free kill. Keep in mind, you don't
have to be the person who knocks them off the ledge, you can
always steal the "kill" *evil grin* Also, if you use this
move and hit someone who's standing on the ground, it'll
knock them straight up. This leaves them wide open.

- Up + A - This move is essentially worthless. It's just a weaker
                  version of the screw attack.

- Back + A - Samus will bring a foot down and extend it behind her. This
is a very weak move, but it produces some of the most
devasting effects in the game. If the opponent is half way
damaged, it will send them flying. It is also extremely easy
                  to connect.

Just a note, if you hit someone with the Down + A and they pop up, you should
jump up and follow it with a Charged Shot. In most all cases, it will kill the
opponent. If you don't have a Charged Shot, use Back + A. This should send
them flying decently far.

This is arguably the best item in the game. Although it's not that good
compared to the Beam Sword in most all aspects, if you use a SMASH move to hit
with this and manage to connect, it's an instant kill. You'll know if you got
it when you hear a high pitch sound. The only time it won't kill instantly
after it connects is when the opponent manages to bounce twice.

Also, when thrown it is extremely powerful. The range is quite moderate.

As far as clobbering weapons, go, this serves pretty decently. It's got great
range and can peg on damage fast. Doing a SMASH move with this is usually
strong enough to send the opponent flying if not killing them.

Whe you throw this weapon, you be very pleasently surprised at how good it is.
It has incredible range, and power. One of the best items to throw.

Probably the most underrated of the clobbering weapons. It's power doesn't
quite compare to the Bat or Sword, but it's not bad. Using it with a SMASH
move produces a projectile. If you can do the SMASH move right next to someone
the rod will hit them as well as the projectile, which makes it decent.

The Star Rod is the best clobbering weapon to throw. If you throw it at
someone, they gernally fall in a direction and down. If you hit someone that
is trying to come back to the ledge, you're almost gauranteed at a kill.

Pathetic sums this up pretty good. I'm sorry, but this really is sad. The
only use of the weapon is to throw it. If it connects after a throw, it'll
send the opponent into the air. Although this is usually good, Samus can do
this anyway, so there is no point. Worthless in all sense.

If the Home Run Bat isn't the best item, this is. It'll send you into a frenzy
much like that in the Donkey Kong gameboy games. The good thing about this is
that you're near invincible and can kill people easily.

There are a few cons to using this though. Some moves have priority over this
and since you can only control direction with this weapon you've got a problem.
Also, your jumping suffers greatly. Just be careful, a powerful weapon is
dangerous to both sides.

Mario's essentially a push over. They can get annoying if all they do is shoot

to get hit by the uppercut, lay a bomb. This will delay your landing and
provide decent enough cover. Once you're close, take him out.

Another thing Mario likes to do is get close and do his Tornado Drill. It is a
devasting move. Since it's close range, you'll know if they want this when
they come straight at you. If they do, just shoot Charged Shots until the
jump. Now use Air to Air moves and take him out.

Basically watch if Mario wants to fight close, or keep you away.

Get in close and use his size to your advantage. DK is really tall, and really
big. If you get close enough, you should be able to launch a few overhead
flamethrowers. This will chunk the damage on and let you kick him to... well

Watch out for his throw. I've seen people grab someone and then walk off the

The first thing to look out for is Thunder. It's powerful as hell and comes

Well, you can see why I hate Ness, huh? He's got a counter for everything. He

First, watch out for his throw. It takes priority over EVERYTHING. I've seen

throw, play mind games with him. jump into him, but lay mines on your way
down. He might try to ignore them and get you but he'll just get hit. If
he trys to block, then just throw him yourself. If he moves away, then try
again.

Also, there is a trick I've found extremely useful. It's a huge sacrafice,
but certain things have to be compromised. Charge a shot, but don't charge
it all the way and release it at Ness. He'll probably absorb it, but since
Samus is fast, you should be able to run in and be on the offensive.

One other trick I've found nice is to fully charge a shot and wait him out. If
he tries to use PK Thunder, you can smile. This will leave him wide open for
the Charged Shot. If he won't do it cause you have a Charged Shot, then well,
find a strategy of your own =] (big help, huh?)

No other game has ever produced so much replay (aside from FFT). I still play
this game today and it has never ceaced to be fun. So stop reading this (as
if you had much else to read) and go play it. Later.
