1 Purpose of this FAQ


This FAQ was made by me, to show some people things about the game they
didn't know about before... I guess. A big thanks for Ben Siron's FF1
handbook, for both inspiring me to make this one, and for a great FAQ
that told me important things to help me in my games (especially the
solo ones,) and also FF Bytes, for letting me use some of their weapon
and armor data.

Also, a big thanks to everyone who contributed to this FAQ, it wouldn't
be complete without you.

2 MAX HP and Damage - Made by Me


This Part of the FAQ is just maximum values of a few things. Oh, and a
quick note, whenever you divide by something, you have to round down.


2a MAX HP for each class, and each level. - Made by Me

A Strong level up gives 20 + (random number from 1-6) + (Vitality / 4)
Weak level up is (Vitality / 4)

Values round up

Some values may be a little off, and values are displayed over 1000
just to show you how high they would have gone without the limit.
I also really need help with the black belt's last three levels. If you
know a game genie code that reduces hp or makes you start the game on a
high level(about 45) with low hp, I'd be very happy, and, you'd get a
spot in the credits :)

FAQ, without it, I wouldn't have known how to figure this out.



This will be a little complicated for each class, you'll have to go
over to the weapons section a few times... but don't worry, for your
"Convenience," I put it right after this section.

Hit% = (Weapon's Hit% + Normal Hit%)
MAX  = Maximum Damage

Fighter\Knight's  Max damage...

Hit% = WH + 10 + (3 x (L - 1))

D = W + (S / 2)

A = (Hit% / 32) + 1

MAX = A x D x 4


Thief\Ninja's  Max damage...

Hit% = WH + 5 + (2 x (L - 1))

D = W + (S / 2)

2c The Classes

Fighter: 8/10


The Fighter has the most high level ups of all the classes, including
over 15 of them in a row. The fighter can also equip near everything,
probably just not 2 or 3 weapons at most. Very costly at the beginning,
don't buy him the steel armor, I think it has high evade, but that's
it. The silver sword will make most of the game much easier if you get
it. The fighter's stats are also very good. He gains 3 hit% per level,
and starts at 10 hit%, and he starts with 35 hp and gets str every
level.


VERDICT: He's worth the money.

Knight: 9/10


Same Stats and hp as the fighter, but now he can equip the Excalibur
and the dragon Armor (If he couldn't before, that is.... I don't
remember.) He gets up to level 3 white magic, but you miss out on the
good spells. Cure2 wont be useful then, either.

VERDICT: He doesn't cost anything anymore! Phew!

Thief: 3/10


Ok, the thief is probably the worst character in the game. He cant
equip any better than the Elfland equipment, but that can get him 3
hits by the time you become a Ninja, at about level 25. He doesn't get
luck every level, I think only about 15/16 levels. He has high evade,
and gets 2 hit% per level. His HP is above average.

VERDICT: NO GOD! What's with this hideous creation?

Ninja: 8/10


The ninja is a HUGE leap from the thief. The ninja is actually useful
for something! He can equip as much as the fighter, but he can use
katanas, too! Still, he isn't too much better. Aside from the fact he
gets up to level 4 black magic! Fire, Ice, Lit, Fir2, Ice2, Lit2, Slow
and FAST! Plus, the ninja looks totally cool!

VERDICT: Thank you god, you made life much better.

Black belt: 9/10


Ok, I like the black belt A LOT. Lets just get that straight out of my
mouth. He gets absorb equal to his level, which sucks, but its
literally impossible not to get 999 hp with him. (My list is actually
wrong, because the black belt is supposed to get vitality every level,
so that would greatly change his hp. I should make the right list in
the next version.) He gets 3 hit% per level, and starts with 33 hp. His
high vitality protects him from poison, stun, and the like, which is
another great reason to use him... plus, he gets damage equal to two
times his level. Keep in mind these attack and defense values are ONLY
if he has no weapon for the attack value, and armor for the defense
value.

VERDICT: Very good.

Grand Master: 9/10

There's no change at all, except that he gets a bit of a cooler look.

VERDICT: Still, Very good.

Red Mage: 4/10


Red mages have the worse hp in the game. Bet you didn't know that! Red
mages can equip chain mail, which is great for the beginning. He can
equip a lot, and he starts with 30 hp. 7 hit%, pretty equal stats, and
looks pretty cool. He gets a lot of magic, of both types. But his hp
still sucks. I don't like him.

VERDICT: He sucks.

Red Wizard: 5/10


Big whoop. He can use sun swords and vorpals, and he can cast life warp
exit ice3 and some other useless spells. He doesn't look better.

VERDICT: He still sucks. His HP sucks too.

White Mage: 8/10

She cant use many weapons. That's ok, she's still the ultimate
defensive character. She can raise defense by 8 with FOG, or evade by
40 with ruse (WOW) and later on INV2 will do it on all characters,
while FOG2 gives everyone plus 12 defense. The attack isn't too bad at
the beginning, but its still annoying. Her MUTE spell is great, too.
She has the 3rd highest hp in the game, it can go just over 900.

VERDICT: Good character.

White Wizard: 9/10

Her equipment selection goes up a bit...she can use the great Thor
hammer for a max. of 3 hits! Whoohoo! Also, Cur4 is the best spell of
the game. Exit is the only thing in the game than can get you out of
the final dungeon (except for stupid WARP >:( ) Lif2 isn't bad
either...if you could just use it in battle. Fade is also good for
attack, its a weaker version of nuke.

VERDICT: Even gooder =P

Black Mage: 7/10

His spells really save the day sometimes, and he makes the game twenty
times easier, too. Its all because of one spell, FAST. Well, I guess
you can also say that Lit2 is really good to kill the wizards, if he
doesent get killed by them first at least. Well, he does have better hp
than the ninja and the red mage. :) Not many weapons, but high hit% on
them.

VERDICT: Opposite of white mage, but too offensive.

Black Wizard: 8/10

Ok, not that he can equip the Cat Claw, things got much better. It
raises a large amount of hit%, and now he can use WARP and NUKE, too.
Ok ok, Warp sucks, one floor, big whoop. Lit3 and Ice3 make kraken
easier though.

VERDICT: A bit better physically.

using a TENT or CABIN immediately after using the HOUSE. If you have to
reload later, you will then return to a point where you had full magic

Character and enemy status effects

5a Character Status

Stun     -          Brings defense down to zero, and causes you to lose
		        turns until you are 'cured'. Only in battle.

Poison   -          Lose two hp per turn of battle, lose one hp each
                    step you take out of battle. Can kill you in
battle,
                    but not outside of battle.
Dark     -          Only in battle, lose about 5 Hit%
Critical -          Character stoops over, only when 1/4 of HP
Dead     -          0 hp, cant perform actions in battle
Stoned   -          Can't perform actions in battle same as dead,
healed

Fast     -          2x normal Hit%
Slow     -          2x less Hit%

Just some weird stuff I thought of and found out. Theories are
unproved, odd stuff has actually happenned to me.



6a Theories - By Me


Is it just me or does your defense seem to go down to zero when you're
paralyzed? I always take a bunch more damage for some reason.

It seems that on some level ups, characters gain certain stats easier
than others, but that seems to change with your level.


If you can prove one of these, with the ROM or something, please tell
me.

6b Odd Stuff - By Me


Dual Treasure Chests?

Go to the Marsh cave, then go to the northern part, where there are
treasures. Get them. Now, go south of the entrance, down the ladder.
The two treasure chests will be empty.

Reset the game.

Do the process over again, except getting the southern ones first. they
will have some of the treasure that the northern ones were supposed to
have, but the northern ones are now empty.

You can also try this on the bottom floor of the marsh cave.

The top left room (next to the stairs) of the bottom floor contains a
treasure chest with an iron armor inside. Now go left one room, and
down one room. There will be a house and an empty chest. Now go right
one room. The treasure chest will be empty.

Now, reset.

Go back to the bottom floor, but this time go to where you found the
house. Open the treasure chest that used to be empty. Iron Armor. The
top left one is now empty, without the iron armor. Then, go to the one
to the right of the room without two chests. A house. Go back to the
room with two chests. The house isnt there anymore, you got it in the
other room.

I guess the reason that some chests are empty in the game is that there
are two chests containing the same item, then you get one, taking away
the item from the other.

Door Glitches....

Press start to go to the menu while on top of a door. Leave the menu,
then walk out of the door. There should be some kind of glitch, usually
a door appearing somewhere on the screen. Weird, huh?

CLASS CHANGING DOES NOT ALTER STAT GAINING!

Yes, it's true. The only thing that makes this seem true is the fact
that level ups are weaker on higher levels, and that's where you
usually are after class changing.

Each Stats' Uses

Strength: Divide this by two, you get the base number of your damage.
add one damage if its the black mage.

Agility: Add this to 48 to find evade%. I'm not sure if this affects
battle order.

Intelligence: Changes spell strengths, but each spell has a limit on
its damage which it cannot exceed, and intelligence won't do anything
about it either, but it'll help you get closer to the maximum damage
easier.

Vitality: This seems to help protect from status conditions, like
poison stun and sleep. It also plays a big part on hp.

Luck: This determines your ability to run from battle.


Bats can't walk through walls....can they....?

Go to the waterfall, and near the end of it, you might sometimes find a
bat walking around in the wall... (It's southwest of the room where you
get the CUBE)
