Dream Passport 2 Guide for Dreamcast 0.1 (8/27/00)
By Haohmaru (shinkuroko@hotmail.com)

This guide is for you to learn to use and configure the Dream Passport 2 (DP2)
browser and its very rough, mostly unformatted and incomplete so excuse the
typos for now. I finally decided to do this guide after seeing people having
trouble downloading the Spawn DC files for the bosses from the Capcom Japan
website. My first language is not Japanese (it's Spanish ...and English in some
ways) so I don't understand everything in the browser. Anyways, if anybody
wishes to continue this guide please feel free to email me. I really don't have
that much time to explain every detail of the browser and all its functions.
Many in future updates I'll explain how to bookmark, read email and all that
stuff with the DP2. You can use the DC bundled browser but I'm not sure if the
US DC browser has Japanese reading capabilities.
The Dream Passport (from what I've seen) is a pretty good browser. It won't
play sounds and I think it has limited applet and Javascript capabilities but
it is WAY MUCH BETTER than the browser bundled in the US DC. Any games I may
refer to in this guide are the import versions (Japanese versions) unless
otherwise specified.
Please note that I use the DP2 with a US DC modded at NCSX (www.ncsx.com) and
I'm using Marvel vs Capcom 2 (MvC2 -- Import version) for the browser (see
Availability). Obviously, you're DC will need its modem to make the call. I
have no idea if the DC can get into a network to access the net and anyways
I've never done anything with networks so I wouldn't have any idea how to do
that. So don't email me asking about it!

------------------------AVAILABILITY:----------------------------
*where can I access the DP2 browser*

Ok, apparently Capcom has been including the DP2 software in its games
(Japanese versions) since MvC2. I know I've seen it included in SF3-3rd Impact
and in Spawn. So I think its safe to assume that any game that Capcom makes
that has their network access will have the DP2 browser (until DP3 comes out
maybe...). Maybe other games have it.

----------------------EQUIPMENT----------------------
*what you need*

1) A DC with a VMU (memory card) with a modem and with the ability to play
Japanese games
2) Internet access in Dial-up form . I think the DC only has dial up
capabilities right now unless Sega makes a network adapter for the DC. Again,
I'm using a US DC modded to play Japanese games

*what you need to know* **IMPORTANT**

1) You need to be able to know how to configure a PC for dial up Internet
access since it's the same process. You'll need a Username, Password, Access
number(s), etc. If you haven't configged your PC for Internet access through a
modem then you'll need help...and not from me so don't email me about it!
2) Umm I suppose you also need to know how to plug the telephone cable to the
back of the DC modem ....you can figure that out by yourself.

------------------------ACCESS:------------------------
*how can I load it up*

If you have any of the above games mentioned or if you follow the instructions
below and determine if you have it, then you can load DP2 this way:

1) Put in the game and start the DC just like any other game
2) **USUALLY** within the main menu (new game, arcade mode, options etc) you'll
have an option called Network or Homepage or Network Battle. In MvC2 its in
Network Battle and below that is HOMEPAGE, which is where we want to go. So
whether HOMEPAGE is below Network (like in MvC2) or right there in the main
menu (like in Spawn) choose that option.
3) After that you'll usually have to choose the VMU you want to use. I suppose
you only need the VMU to save files and bookmarks but I think the user config
(more on that later) files are saved in the VMU so you better have one in
there. After selecting it with the A button you'll get a "use this VMU ? yes or
no?" question in Japanese. Oh oh! Our first meeting against the all-mighty
gaming/anime language.
4) Choose 'HAI' (the first option). Ok, let me expand on this. Unless you've
never seen the Karate Kid movies you should know that 'HAI' means yes in
Japanese. I'd be a good idea to learn the 2 chars that make up 'HAI' and the 3
chars that make up the second option :'IIE' (no) since you'll be asked more Yes
or No questions further on. 'IIE' is pronounced: '-II-' as in peach but extend
the sound like peeeach and the '-E-' is flat like in pep.
5) Press A button again to continue. It should start loading and you get a
'Loading...' message in the bottom. Usually right bottom corner.
6) After finished loading up you'll go into a generic homepage for your game.
You'll still be not connected. But you are now using DP2.
7) Ok, now you'll need to config the DP2 for I-net access unless you've done
that before. (see below)

--------------------------FUNCTIONS-------------------
*where you can write the URL, back -forward buttons, etc*

You can access the function menus by pressing L and R (there's one on each
side and they're both different. The pad controls the cursor like a mouse and
the joystick is like a fast scroll, page up/down (also page left/right) thing.
I suppose it would've been better the other way around but that's Sega for you.
IMPORTANT: The A button chooses, B cancels!!! Y will clear the 'loading page
15%' notes

(options in capitals followed by short explanations. [submenu] means it'll take
you to another screen)
						LEFT MENU

HOME -generic Homepage you got first when loading. I think you can config this
to start somewhere else specified

MAIL [submenu] -manage your email here (won't be able to read email until
you've configged it

						RIGHT MENU

BOOKMARKS - [submenu] this also takes you to the bookmarks screen but I don't
know if there's a difference between this and the bookmarks option in the left

ZOOM - zooms page. Press R and choose ZOOM again to unzoom
FILE - manage VMU's and their files

			LEFT menu's OPTIONS submenu

KEYBOARD ---------- Configs keyboard? I don't have a keyboard so I haven't
played with this one.

I think this is for getting disconnected if you don't do anything for ## mins

PROVIDER [submenu if you press A at any option ] ----------(SEGA) (USER)
For now choose USER. If you've configged the browser that was bundled in the US

config your DP2 for Internet access (please see below)
MODEM [submenu] ---------- configs modem (see below)

				LEFT menu's -->OPTIONS-->MODEM submenu

# FOR OUTSIDE LINE-------- (No) (Yes _####_)
# FOR ?????? -----------(No) (Yes _####_)
I don't have to dial additional numbers to get an outside line and I'm not sure
which one is which but whatever 2 numbers you got in your Windows' Dial up
screens to dial outside is what goes in the above 2.
ADVANCED OPTIONS [submenu]

			LEFT menu's -->OPTIONS-->MODEM -->ADVANCED OPTIONS submenu
AT COMMAND--------- (no) (yes _####) ----- modem commands (ATZ DT etc) leave

--------------GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS---------------

Very general!! Ok wether you enter a URL in the JUMP (Left) option or choose a
page in your BOOKMARKS or click on a link the DP2 will take you there. Sooo, if
you're not connected your DC will attempt to connect. So click, enter, or punch
something to attempt to get connected. Be sure to have the DC configged for ISP
access (see above). Again, pad serves as mouse, joystick to scroll page
up/down/left/right, A selects, B cancels, Y clears messages. Listen to the
nice Japanese lady's voice for voiced explanations of the L/R menus :D Nice!
Maybe you can pick something up.

How to Download Save files
We'll you have to click a VMU file. The DP2 will do the same thing Explorer or
Netscape does when you click a downloadable file:

--Save this file to VMU (yes) (no) or (OK) (Cancel) ....whatever
--Checking file (cancel button appears until done checking...leave this alone)
--Choose VMU to save to , this one (yes) (no)... blah blah...
--Saving...done saving (ok) blah blah etc...

If you want the Spawn files, enter http://www2.capcom.co.jp/spawn/index.php3
and dl' the files to play as the boss chars. Gamefaqs (www.gamefaqs.com ) has
the MvC2 and Powerstone 2 files.
