                           =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Once more, hello again! =). Dead or Alive 2: Hardcore is such a great game
with ultra-flashy graphics and intense gameplay. Compared to the previous
versions of Dead or Alive 2 (US/JAP Dreamcast and JAP PS2), this one includes
new characters and new costumes. Seeing that I made a guide for its ancestor,
Dead or Alive for the Playstation, I decided to create characters guides for
DOA2: Hardcore. Ill be concentrating on the ladies first and then Ill
create guides for the men. After all, DOA is famous for its gorgeous and sexy
women. =)

                          =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

For this guide, Ill be using these to represent the different movements or
positions for the moves.

u = Up BT = Your back turned (back faced from opponent)
uf = Up and Forward OC = Opponent is Crouching
f  = Forward              P  = Punch
df = Down and Forward K = Kick
d  = Down                 F  = Free Button
db = Down and Backward OD = Opponent is Down
b  = Backward             WR = While Rising
ub = Up and Backward HD = Hold down button preceding this symbol
W = Execute next button after .5 seconds
NW = Next to Wall
BE = Backs turned against each other
CB1= Youre crouching with your back facing opponent
CB2= Opponent is crouching and his/her back is facing you
OB = Opponents back is facing you

Now, Ill try to explain the difference between uf+P,P and uf,P,P. In the
first one, uf and Punch should be pushed at the same time then press another
punch. For the second one, push uf first then press Punch, and then Punch
again.

                          SPECIAL MOVES AND COMBOS
                       =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

For the description of the moves (as well as the other sections of this guide
that has a description column in it), I just invented some of the names
(applicable to those that Ive discovered).

Note: Juggle means to attack you opponent continuously while he/she is still
in the air. This is nice to look at and very damaging. Combos are a series of
moves that damage the opponent successively, making him/her unable to
retaliate quickly.

To be able to pull off the throws and holds, you must be right beside and as
close as possible to your opponents. Remember that, you cannot use the throws
without the (OC) if the opponent is crouching and vice versa.

                               TAG BATTLE TIPS
                          =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

Helena is a versatile fighter. She can surprise anyone among the other
characters with her lightning fast, yet strongly delivered attacks. She is
also a good juggler especially when coming from a tag from her partner.
Helenas strong (or even those that render her opponents defenseless) will
pave way for a good tag team combination. Either a tag team throw or a tag
team juggle combo. But Helena is most effective when her partner is in the
forefront of the battle. I mean that Helena is the second character, and when
your first characters leaves, Helena is capable of doing instant tag attacks
(right after coming into the arena). Helena is also good at countering
opponents tag moves and she is quite a character where you can easily pull
off a hold or a counter.

                                SURVIVAL TIPS
                          =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

Using Helena in the Survival mode might get a little tricky. She doesnt have
devastating attacks such as Ayane and Kasumis Flip Kicks. All you can do is
to combo your opponent. The uf+K move will also be useful in the Survival
mode. You can even his opponents that just arrived. The most useful combo you
can use is the f+P,P. It catches everyone off guard most of the time. And
most especially, try to take your opponents to the walls for more damage.
Helena isnt capable of big damage. She can though, but it would take some
skill to pull them off.

                         INDIVIDUAL CHARCATER GUIDE
                     =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

These are my observations for the different characters while Im playing as
Ayane. Ill be included some strategies that Ive seen that is most preferred
against a particular character. If you have some very helpful strategies, you
may tell me about it.

======
KASUMI
======

Kasumi will be one of the toughest fighters youll see in Dead or Alive 2:
Hardcore. Shes very agile and she can easily adopt to the technique of her
enemies. If you give her a chance, shell combo you up to the last life of
your character. Shes also good at blocking and holding to plan your moves
well. Low attacks like the d+K will be very effective against her. Imminent
throwing is also advisable as Kasumi oftentimes puts down her guard after
doing an attack. If you plan to block or Hold her moves, watch out for the
middle and high areas. She attacks these areas most of the time.

====
TINA
====

Tina is very strong and sometimes has the element of surprise with her. She
can vary her moves from attacking, to throwing, to defending. Be cautious of
her throwing abilities as she is capable of easily pulling off throws on you.
Watch out also for her powerful attacks and tackles. The best way to defeat
her is to attack surprisingly. I mean, dont use combos. Just tap punches and
kicks and youll see that she is caught by it easily.

========
LEI-FANG
========

Lei-Fang is quite easy to manipulate as an enemy. You can let her do what you
want (guys, its not what youre thinking). Example, if you want her to
attack, stay away from her and shell attack you. If you want her to hold
you, stay near. Of course, dont attack her. At the same time she holds,
counter with a throw.

=====
AYANE
=====

Ayane is fast and furious. Her attacks are very unpredictable. She oftentimes
use her flip kicks and back-facing attacks so watch out for them. Shes also
quite hard to hold or throw because of her aggressiveness. Dont be
aggressive yourself as her attacks has an advantage. Bokuho attacks will be
very useful again her. And of course, she holds low attacks most of the time.
Just stay away and attack from a distance if possible.

======
HELENA
======

As your alter ego, Helena will be a very tough opponent. Especially when you
are using Bokuho attacks. Helena can counter your own attacks easily. She
also has lightning fast (well, not that fast) kicks that can surprise you
from time to time. To counter that, you can be aggressive to her if you want.
She is vulnerable to the middle and lower attacks. Also, she doesnt seem to
hold or counter your attacks. She just keeps on attacking you. Try to
surprise her with the uf+K,K. She gets caught with it most of the time.

========
HAYABUSA
========

Hayabusa is a rather easy opponent. His attack pattern is to attack in the
middle or the lower part of the body. If he succeeds, he will continue on
pouncing your character. If not, he will evidently use a throw (especially
that very annoying air throw combo that pile drives you to the ground). To
defend from his attacks, stay low and try to figure out what he will do next.
Dont go near him because hell throw you at once. If you plan to be
aggressive, attack low and perform a combo when your low attacks connect. He
doesnt block or hold too often.

========
JANN-LEE
========

I often call Jann-Lee as Bruce Lee for his unpredictability and fast attacks.
His punches are quite deadly and it can throw you a distance away. You can
easily hold off those punches though be using the ub+F hold, or anything that
holds high attacks. Beware also of his flying kick that is unblockable. He
uses it most of the time, especially when your away from him. Take care of
your lower extremities too because he attacks low, out of the blue.

====
ZACK
====

Zack is very comical in the way he fights. The main factor in his fighting
skills is his quickness and unpredictability. The best way to get around him
is to stay a few steps behind and try to anticipate his moves. Hell either
use a middle or a high attack. To attack him, use low attacks such as d+K. It
will connect most of the time.

======
GEN-FU
======

Gen-Fu is rather strong. Just like Lei-Fang, she can pull-off very powerful
attacks at the least expected moment. But I really noticed that he attacks in
the middle section most of the time. He is very easy to deal with using
Helena. A surprising uf+K will catch him off guard a lot of times. He is also
vulnerable to Helenas Bokuho attacks. Just beware of his punches. If you can
avoid them or hold them, youll be able to beat him easily.

====
BASS
====

He is the powerhouse of the game. He is able to do throws dealing massive
damages to you. There is one trick that I find easy to do with, using Helena.
When in Bokuho stance, f+P will be very effective against Bass, especially
when youre a few steps away from him. Just remember 2 things when you are
fighting Bass. If youre far from him, hell kick or punch his way to you.
Dont worry through as his attacks are rather slow and easy to hold off or
even countered. But when he is able to go near you, most likely youll be
thrown. If this happens, attack low at once or use Helenas uf+K. This will
prevent those annoying throws.

===
EIN

Ein is an aggressive character. He likes to punch very much and that makes
him vulnerable to middle holds and counters. With Helena, you can easily
pull-off Juggling attacks by initiating it using the d+K,K. This will launch
Ein in the air (as well as any other character when it connects) giving you
room for more combos. Dont try to throw him too much as hell learn from it.
Just when you thought youre about to throw him, hed already thrown you.

====
LEON
====

Leon is another strong opponent. He knows throw combos even professional
wrestlers cant pull off. Just try your best not to go too near him, so as to
prevent those nasty throws. Just stay away from him and dodge or hold (I
prefer the latter) his punches or kicks. Dont be aggressive against Leon.
Hell just hold off your attacks and counter you.

=====
TENGU
=====

Tengu quite easy compared to other characters such as Kasumi and Ayane (in
level 7 or 8). Tengus attacks are very predictable. When he starts to back
flip, hold middle. Then he starts to stomp on the ground, you can do 2 things
to prevent it. First, block. Second, rush in and punish him. He also likes
high, high, then low combo attacks so memorize this sequence to be able to
hold his moves. When he jumps, hold off (high) when hes near the ground.

To defeat him, dont do continuous combos. Hell just hold them off. What you
can do is to anticipate his movements by staying still. When he holds, attack
him. Do this right after the hold. And most importantly, vary your moves. He
is able to somehow predict your next move.

                =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Where can I find this FAQ?

   This FAQ will be updated and posted mainly at http://WWW.GAMEFAQS.COM and
at vgstrategies.about.com/gamewinners.com. Both sites are the 2 BEST FAQ
sites Ive ever seen. Their webmasters are really very responsible and are
dedicated to their web site.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
2. How often do you update the FAQ?

Ill continue to update this guide until it becomes complete in time. If
there are MAJOR corrections, this guide will be updated.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
3. How many costumes does Helena have in this game?

Helena has a total of 7 costumes all in all. The costumes for her, as well as
the other girls, are not the same as the first DOA (in terms of being sexy
and so on). They are still very pretty in their new costumes though. =)

                             GAMEPLAY TIPS
                      =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

1. Try to master the Hold Button. Countering an opponent is always a key to
winning the battle. Remember that Holding off opponents moves can be done in
High, Mid, or Lower sections.

2. Master also the throws. These give off a very big amount of damage to the
opponent.

3. If a punch or a kick of an enemy cant reach you, try to counter it with a
punch or kick of your own.

4. Master Helenas uf+K, d+K, and most especially the Bokuho moves. It can be
used in many ways such as a counter and a combo starter/launcher.
