CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: I'm thinking about adding "Name Origins" and "Monsters
Who Commonly Drop These Weapons/Armor or Items With Which to Make These
Weapons/Armor" sections. This would be no small undertaking, so I would
greatly appreciate your opinions - please email me if you would benefit from
this information, or if you think it's just redundant. Until the latter
section is complete, <plug> see my Monster Encyclopedia </plug>.

-- I. Version History --

v0.75 11/16/01: Translated a good chunk of Yuna's finger rings, Kimahri's
mittens, and Aaron's katanas, and finished aesthetic descriptions of
everyone's equipment except Rikku's. Added a less obtuse explanation of the
weapon and armor numbering scheme.

v0.6 11/14/01: Enormous overhaul on the format of section V. This should make
it easier to glean what weapons and armor contain which auto-abilities,
without all the needless scrolling up and down that the old format lent itself
to. Converted all of the old completed sections to the new format, and
finished Rikku's armor. Because what remains is more complicated kanji (Yuna's
finger rings, Kimahri's mittens, and Aaron's katanas and bracelets), the
translation will be understandably slower-going. I hope to have this document
finished by Thanksgiving, cross your fingers...

v0.5 11/12/01: Added Tidus', Wakka's, Lulu's, and some of Rikku's armor.
Finally released to the public via GameFAQs.com.

v0.4 11/11/01: Fixed a couple mistranslations in the numbered weapon and armor
abilities sections (oops!), and finished sections III and IV. Added Lulu's,
Kimahri's, and Rikku's weapons. Still not released to the public.

v0.25 11/10/01: Formally began guide, as suggested by an email pal. Not
released to the public, just on my web site. As usual. Completed numbered
ablitites sections, and Tidus', most of Yuna's, and Wakka's weapons.

-- II. Foreword / Contact Information --

First, this is not a gameplay FAQ. This is a complete guide to making any
kind of equipment in the game, and what that particular equipment looks like,
and is called. If you need help figuring out the Sphere Board system, or want
a walkthough, look elsewhere. Also, this guide is obviously based on the
Japanese release, so for those of you reading it months from now when FFX
comes out in North America and PAL territories, understand that the
information will still be factual and relevant, but names will definately be
different. I might update this guide at that time to reflect these changes,
but bear in mind I'm also authoring three other _enormous_ FAQs on the game,
and there will be countless numbers of item names, auto-ability names, weapon
names, armor names, etc, to change. I'm not being monetarily compensated for
writing this, and unless you plan on doing just that, you have no business
complaining.

If you have a submission or a question regarding weapons and armor that I
haven't covered in this document, you may email me at circe@san.rr.com or
cb@positronrecords.com, or contact me via AOL Instant Messenger as
"Ceebsie". I'm also on the GameFAQs boards as "Ceebs" occasionally. Please
try to use a modicum of grammar and politeness, and please make sure your
question hasn't already been answered. If you don't, I can pretty much
guarantee your message will go ignored. I'm an extremely busy person, and
have tried to make this guide as thorough and self-explanatory as possible,
so I have neither the time nor desire to regurgitate material from it.
Let's put it this way - the more time I spend reading your email, the less
I have to work on the guide. Capiche? The latest version of this document,
and all the other ones I've written, can always be found at GameFAQs
(http://www.gamefaqs.com/) and my site (http://home.san.rr.com/circe/).
Please reference them before finding fault with what may be an out-of-date
version.

-- V. Weapon and Armor Remodelling --

For roughly the first third of the game, you'll be forced to buy all of your
equipment in shops. However, when the character Rikku joins your party, due
to her being an Al Bhed (or otherwise known as a Convenient Plot Device),
you'll be able to remodel weapons and armor as you see fit with ANY auto-
ability, so long as you have the nescessary items. This may seem familiar to
anyone who played Final Fantasy VIII and IX, which had "remodeling" shops, but
Square has overhauled the system to give the player limitless customizing
options, not to mention greater ease in finding the components to customize.
(Anyone else have nightmares about hunting down Energy Crystals in Esthar?
Shudder.)

Below you'll find all the names and associated auto-abilities of everyone's
weapons and armor. Equipment appearance is a brief description of what the
equipment looks like, while equipment name and auto-abilities are what the
equipment is called, and what auto-abilities the equipment has to posesses to
be called that. I thought it was self-explanatory, but apparently some people
were confused as to what this meant. Go figure.

When remodeling equipment, lower numbers take ALWAYS precendence. For example,
if you had a weapon for Kimahri with the [Consume 1 MP] auto-ability on it
(#15 on the list, called Astral Spear), it would be the lance with the red
arrowhead blade and golden tassels. If the same weapon also had [Always Add
Death] (#31 on the list, called Thanatos Lancer) equipped to it, it would
still be the Astral Spear. Fraternity is weapon #2, and therefore only applies
to Tidus, so no one else has a second weapon.

An armor example of the above formula is thus: if you had a shield for Tidus
with the [Auto-Phoenix], [Absorb Fire], and [Always Protect Berserk] auto-
abilities, it would be called the Reborn Shield, because [Auto Phoenix] is
a smaller number on the the list of auto-abilities than [Absorb Fire] or
[Always Protect Berserk] - #21 as compared to #43 or #49, respectively.

 - A. Tidus' Swords -

Equipment Appearance:

1: Cobalt and aquamarine blue sword with gold gilt near the hilt and towards
   the tip.
2, 5, 51, 53: The infamous "water sword" from the cover of the North American
   box art.
3, 38, 39, 49, 56, 60, 62, 64: Magenta hook shaped sword with silver edging.
4, 22, 40, 50, 52: Slightly curved cobalt blue sword with silver edging, and
lots of baroque criss-crossing silver lines near the hilt.
6-15, 21, 24-27, 54: Flat yellow sword with no pointy protrusions, and three
   holes at the tip.
16, 20, 23, 31-37, 41-48: Black cyber-looking sword that splits in two at the
   tip.

-- VI. Thanks, Credits, Shameless Plugs --

Big thanks go out to Tronix (http://www.tronixweb.com/) and National Console
Support, Inc (http://www.ncsx.com/) for selling me Final Fantasy X and a
Japanese Playstation 2, respectively. Best import shops on the web, they
are!

Thanks as well to Amazon Japan (http://www.amazon.co.jp/) for stocking the
two FFX Ultimania guides, and being kind enough to ship overseas.

Thanks to Muni Shinobu (muni_shinobu@yahoo.com) for his excellent FFX
walkthrough and numerous other guides on the game. Without him, we would not
know wairo from Shinola.

Thanks to my "right hand man" Ben Sponholtz (http://www.gravitydam.net/) for
helping to translate some of Yuna's rods, and being a source of levity while
doing so. I'M LAUGHING AT YOU, NOT WITH YOU.

Special thanks to J. Parish (http://www.toastyfrog.com/), without whom I'd
never have begun importing games, and FAQs like these wouldn't have been
written.

Much respect to Alexander O. Smith for his fantastic localizations of Vagrant
Story, Parasite Eve 2, Final Fantasy IX, soon-to-be Final Fantasy X, and all
the rest. Thank you for elevating video game dialogue to fine literature.

Extra special thanks to Square (http://www.playonline.com/) for creating FFX
and many other quality titles, and GameFAQs (http://www.gamefaqs.com/) for
hosting FAQs on every game imaginable, and respecting FAQ author's rights.
