Introduction
============
I know I am a 'talkactive' person, especially when it comes to talking
about games. Well, since this is my first and most likely ONLY
Final Fantasy IX faq, allow me to speak more and please endure my
longwindedness. Thank you!

Final Fantasy IX, the ninth installment, is SQUARESOFT's last Final
Fantasy for the PlayStation. The Final Fantasy series once again
unleashes an enthralling saga of epic proportions with Final Fantasy
IX. It brings back the traditional RPG elements [like armours] and is
directed more towards a magical tale and fantasy style unlike the
previous two more serious type Final Fantasies.

Graphically, Final Fantasy IX doesn't show a quantum leap over Final
Fantasy VIII. It seems that the Final Fantasy series has reached its
peak in terms of 32-bit graphics at VIII. Final Fantasy IX uses similar
graphic engine, just like Final Fantasy VIII and demonstrates the
PlayStation technology to the fullest. The only noticeable difference
is the inproportionate character design style by Yoshitaka Amano. 'Old'
diehard FFs fans will definitely welcome Yoshitaka Amano's artworks.
Nevertheless, Final Fantasy IX manages to maintain the standard set
by Final Fantasy VIII graphically. Well, we can't complain too much
since the PlayStation is getting 'old'.

Final Fantasy IX lacks the innovations when you talk about combat,
when being compared to the last few Final Fantasies, particularly VI
to VIII. Analyse the combat system carefully and you will find that
a lot of concepts are recycled and modified ideas in Final Fantasy
IX. Well, this isn't really bad since I find that the concept behind
the combat system like Trance, learning abilities etc, are very easy
to grasp.

Despite all these, Final Fantasy IX is definitely a great RPG for
everyone. One particular sidequest captures my attention fully. As
you can guess, it's the chocobo digging game. The chocobo digging
game, known as the 'Chocobo Hot and Cold' game, [I don't know why
it's called like this but...] is a complex and enjoyable game to play.
In Final Fantasy VII, we spent time breeding gold chocobo, just to
get Knight of the Rounds Materia. I complain that we should be given
more treasures to find that requires chocobo. Square has granted my
wish. With all these said, I shall proceed on to the faq. I hope that
you will enjoy reading this faq and with this faq, you will have a
more rewarding treasure hunting game experience with Choco. Feel
free to give any comments.

II)What's Chocobo Hot and Cold Game?
=======================================================================
In disc one, when you first set out from Lindblum's Dragon Gate, you
can head east over land. You should see a 'round-shaped' forest. Yes,
it is the Chocobo's Forest and where your first Chocobo's Hot and Cold
game will begin. You meet Mene, a moogle. Mene will give you a Gysahl
Green and tell you that this is the favourite food for chocobo. You
need the Gysahl Green to summon a chocobo. Now, exit the forest and
get ready to call your first chocobo.

Steps
-----
1)Notice that there are tracks just outside the Chocobo's Forest.
2)Go to the tracks and go to the menu. Use a Gysahl Green. You will
notice that a KWEH sound is heard.
3)Chocobo appears in the world map.
4)Ride the chocobo by pressing the X button.
5)Enter the Chocobo's Forest.

The chocobo's default name is Choco. Mene said that a chocobo will
never leave his master if he is being taken care of. Talk to Mene,
the Moogle and ask him for the secret. Mene will tell you that chocobo
is born with a special ability that allows it to detect treasures and
dig treasures that are buried deep in the ground. Mene said that he
can't ride the chocobo himself. By giving 60 gil to Mene, Mene will
give you one minute [60 secs] to let you use Choco to dig up the
treasures here in the Chocobo's Forest. Any treasure you find, will
be BELONGED to YOU. You earn points for finding treasures. The better
the treasures, the more points you will earn. You can accumulate your
points and exchange points for some good items.

After you have paid 60 gil to Mene to play the Chocobo's Hot and Cold
Game, you will see a list of instructions of how you should play the
game. To dig for treasures, press the Square button and you should
see noises like:

                              Table 3

When you get a "K-KWEHHH!!!" [All in caps] sound, it means you have
struck the spot where item is buried. A depth level meter will appear,
indicating how deep the treasure is being buried underground. The
deeper the item is buried, there is a tendency that it will be a
better item, but of course, more time is needed to dig out the buried
treasure.

For example, the initial depth meter is 70. Keep pressing the Square
button and you will notice that the depth meter starts to decrease at
a certain rate. When it reaches ZERO, you will recieve the buried
item. How fast the depth meter decreases will depend on Choco's beak
level. The higher the beak level, the faster the depth meter decreases.
As Choco keeps digging and gains points, Choco's beak level will
increase.

By now, these are the points that you should take note of:
---------------------------------------------------------
1)If you need more Gysahl Greens, you can purchase it from Mene
for 80 gil each. You can also find Gysahl Greens sometimes
when you are playing the Chocobo's Hot and Cold game.
2)You can call Choco on the world map, provided that you are
STANDING on chocobo tracks by using the Gysahl Green. What
makes it difference from Final Fantasy VII is that you do not
need to enter a battle and defeat all the enemies to get a
  chocobo.
3)To ride Choco, press X button and to dismount, press the Circle
button. What makes it difference from Final Fantasy VII is that
Choco will never run away even if you get off Choco.
4)Choco will always stay in a FIXED location where you last leave
him unless you use a Gysahl Green to call him from another location
which has chocobo tracks. For example, you leave Choco just outside
Alexandria. Then, you go to the tracks near Chocobo's Forest and
use a Gysahl Green. You will notice that Choco will not be outside
Alexandria anymore. Instead, Choco will be outside the Chocobo's
  Forest.
5)You can talk to Mene to see how many points you have accumulated.
You can exchange points for items. Examples of great items that
you can get by exchanging a certain points are Robe of Lords and
  Protect Ring.
6)The deeper the item is buried, there is a tendency that it will be
a better item, but of course, more time is needed to dig out the
  buried treasure.
7)Choco's beak level increases as Choco keeps digging and gains
points. Digging becomes easier if Choco's beak level is high.
Certain treasures appear at certain beak level.
8)The noises, as listed in table 1, also applies when you ride Choco
in the world map to dig for treasures, when a Chocograph is being
equipped. [Please refer to 'What's Chocograph?' section for more
  details.]
9)At each time, there will only be ONE treasure. Once you have found
it, another treasure will be SET IN PLACE. The MAXIMUM number of
treasures you can find per game is EIGHT. [The ONLY EXCEPTION is
digging in Chocobo's Lagoon before getting the Ocean Ability. In
this case, the MAXIMUM number of treasures you can find per game
  is FOUR.]

=======================================================================
III)What's Chocographs?
=======================================================================
There are special items buried deep beneath the ground that provides
clues as to the whereabouts of buried treasure that Choco can dig up
on the World Map, known as the Chocographs. Think of Chocographs as
a treasure map and you are riding on Choco for a treasure hunting.
Once you have found a Chocograph, go to the World Map and ride on
Choco. Press the triangle button and then equip the Chocograph. Thus,
your treasure hunting with Choco begins now. Note that if you have
some Dead Pepper in your inventory, it becomes like this:

|_________________________________________|

These are the points that you should take note of:
-------------------------------------------------
1)There are a total of 24 Chocographs scattered all over these three
places. The three places are Chocobo's Forest, Chocobo's Lagoon and
Chocobo's Air Garden. 13 Chocographs can be found in Chocobo's
Forest, 7 in Chocobo's Lagoon and 3 in Chocobo's Air Garden. That
adds up to 23 chocographs and one left. Chocograph #20 can be
found in either Chocobo's Forest or Chocobo's Lagoon, provided that
you have found all the six Chocograph Pieces.
2)Keep digging for Chocographs in a particular place until Choco
senses that there is no more Chocographs buried here. Then, move
on to other places to dig. Eg. After digging up all the Chocographs
in Chocobo's Forest, you might consider visiting Chocobo's Lagoon
  to find the remaining Chocographs.
3)When playing the Chocobo's Hot and Cold game, it is not always so
lucky that you will find a Chocograph. In this case, play the game
several times until you find it. You might want to take note that
chances of the buried treasure is Chocograph is higher if the
  treasure is buried deeper.
3)It is VERY IMPORTANT that you equip the Chocograph when finding the
buried treasure in the World Map. Choco will not DIG in the world
map if a Chocograph is not being equipped or the treasure has been
  found.
4)There are four Chocographs that lead to four special locations.
Upon finding these four locations, Choco will fall asleep and be
teleported to the Chocobo's Dream World. At Chocobo's Dream World,
Fat Chocobo, the god of all Chocobos will bestow a special ability
to Choco such as the REEF ability, Mt ability, SEA ability and SKY
ability. [Please refer to 'Chocobo's Abilities' section for details.]
5)You NEED NOT find any TREASURE in ANY PARTICULAR ORDER. Certain
treasures require certain abilities which you might have not learnt
yet. It is advisable that you obtain these treasures later in the
game when Choco has gained new abilities.
6)When looking at the Chocograph menu, there will be a treasure chest
symbol next to each Chocograph. The closed treasure chest indicates
that the treasure has not been found yet while the opened treasure
chest indicates that the treasure has been found.

 __________________________________________________________________
|TIPS1 |It is best to concentrate on getting all the Chocographs |
| |first, then the treasures after that. Evolve your chocobo |
| |immediately when possible. When you have a gold Chocobo, |
| |it makes finding treasures easier. In this way, it saves |
| |time since reaching those locations are now much easier. |

=======================================================================
IV)What's Chocograph Pieces?
=======================================================================
While playing the Chocobo's Hot and Cold game in the Chocobo's Forest
or Chocobo's Lagoon, you might dig up a treasure called Chocograph
Pieces. There are a total of six Chocograph Pieces and each Chocograph
Piece provides the whereabouts or information regarding Chocobo's Air
Garden. You can read the information regarding Chocograph Piece by
going to the KEY ITEM in the menu. Note that you need all these six
Chocograph Pieces to gain access to Chocobo's Air Garden. Also, the
six Chocograph Pieces form the Chocograph #20 that will lead you to
the Sky Ability.

Here's the information extracted from each Chocograph piece.

1)"There... danger in the sky. If you dar... to face it, use this
rec... to find your way." =Cid|=
2)"Tho... who do not fear death, find one... the islands in salvage...
  See what lies there." =Cid|=
3)"Courageous one, head southea... on the outer... to reach Kuentis
Peninsular. See what lies there." =Cid|=
4)"Noble one, head northea... the Mist Continent... reach Alexandria
Plains. See what lies there." =Cid|=
5)"Dreamer... Head to the ocean in the center... all continents. See
  what awaits you." =Cid|=
6)"Cautious one... head to the east of aways Canyon on the forgotten
Continent... See what lies there." =Cid|=

Okay, with the information above, can you figure out where's Chocobo's
Sky Garden. Before I reveal the possible location(s), here are some
points that you should take note:
1)As the name implies, Chocobo's Sky Garden is a floating island.
That means that its location is not fixed. However, it will only
be in either ONE of these FIVE locations. I am not sure what's
the probability of Chocobo's Air Garden will be in these five
locations. I suppose it is RANDOM.
2)If you look at the spot where Chocobo's Air Garden is, you will
always see a small, black and round shadow. This shadow is being
casted by the floating island itself. Simply position your gold
chocobo hovering above the shadow and use the Dead Pepper. You
will immediately be transported to Chocobo's Air Garden.
3)It is quite tricky to find Chocobo's Air Garden. It took me at least
an hour to find. <Grin> But, the thing is once you have found the
place, Mene will add a dot to your World Map. This makes finding
Chocobo's Air Garden easier. However, the location is still not
  FIXED.

 ___________________________________________________________________
|NOTE1 |Shaun Minor said that Chocobo's Air Garden will not appear |
| |until you have completed the four shrines. However, four |
| |people have e-mailed me and told me that this wasn't true. |
| |One of them is Kaze Yagami. Matt Cook, Brett & Stacy and |
| |Brian Carper also confirmed this by saying that they found |
| |the Chocobo's Air Garden before completing the four shrines.|

 ___________________________________________________________________
|NOTE2 |According to Timothy Leary, he said that you need to get an |
| |airship [Hilda Garde 3 or later, Invincible] before you can |
| |get the gold chocobo. He said that as soon as he got the |
| |Hilda Garde 3, he headed to Chocobo's Lagoon and the final |
| |two Chocograph Pieces immediately become available. The |
| |reason is Square doesn't want you to have the gold chocobo |
| |before getting the airship, if not, you will be able to go |
| |to Forgotten Continent before the game actually wants you |
| |to go. This reason sounds VERY LOGICAL. I actually over- |
| |looked this point. |
|______|____________________________________________________________|

|Credit|Thanks to Timothy Leary <neurusilo@mindspring.com> for |
| |telling me that you need the airship, Hilda Garde 3 before |
| |you can get a gold chocobo. |
|______|____________________________________________________________|

 ___________________________________________________________________
|TIPS2 |When searching for Chocobo's Air Garden for the first time, |
| |you need not waste time and search all the five possible |
| |locations. Just concentrate on one location or perhaps two |
| |that you are familiar. The northeast of the Mist Continent |
| |and the ocean in the centre are two easiest locations to |
| |find. Go there and if you don't see the shadow, RESET the |
| |game and start all over until you see the shadow. |
|______|____________________________________________________________|

 ___________________________________________________________________
|TIPS3 |Once you have found the Chocobo's Air Garden, you may be |
| |curious of where the other possible locations of Chocobo's |
| |Air Garden will be. Very simple! Reset your game and look |
| |for the dot which says 'Chocobo's Air Garden in the world |
| |map. You notice that the location occurs randomly everytime |
| |you reset your game. Of course, there's still a chance that |
| |the location remains unchanged after your reset. Try and |
| |reset your game a few times. |
|______|____________________________________________________________|

Below is a spoiler!!! Try and decipher the Chocograph Pieces yourself.
DO NOT LOOK at it unless you have PROBLEMS finding the Chocobo's Air
Garden. Here's the interpretations of the six Chocograph Pieces.

1)Tells you that there is 'something' in the sky. And, that 'something'
is Chocobo's Air Garden. The remaining five points below indicate
the five possible locations of the Chocobo's Air Garden.
2)This place is hard to find without giving any clue. Island in
Salvage... It didn't tell much. It is in Salvage Archipelago. It's
in a small isolated island in between Daguerreo and Chocobo's
Lagoon. There's no beach in the island but there's only one small
  patch of forest.
3)In Kuentis Peninsula, southeast of Outer Continent. Head southeast
from where the Earth Shrine is and you will pass by two forests.
Continue on and reach the end.
4)In the northeast of the Mist Continent. On a mountainous region
  very NEAR to Alexandria Harbor.
5)Ocean in the centre of the world map.
6)It's in the EAST of Seaways Canyon in the Forgotten Continent.
This place is hard to describe. From where the Water Shrine is,
head directly east until you reach the end of the eastern side
  of the Forgotten Continent.

Additional Points To Take Note:
------------------------------
1)Chocobo's Lagoon is inside a cave on Palmnell island. To get to it,
you need an airship [or ship] and Choco with a REEF ability [Sea
Ability or Sky Ability is preferred.] Pilot your airship, Hilda
Garde 3 or Invincible or ship [Blue Narciss] to the island north of
Chocobo's Lagoon. You should see chocobo tracks on the island. Call
a chocobo from there. If Choco has only the REEF ability, you have
to ride Choco along the shallow waters to the cave entrance. Take
a long and roundabout route towards the Forgotten Continent and
then from there, turn south. You should see a '?' sign when you
ride Choco on your first visit as you approach the cave.
2)To get to Chocobo's Paradise, just go to the CORNER of the world.
But, if you CHECK out any Final Fantasy IX world map pictures,
they will put Chocobo's Paradise in the TOP-LEFT corner of the
world. The world is ROUND. You know this, RIGHT? On the island
where Chocobo's Paradise is, you should see a crack on a mountain.
Use a Dead Pepper after you have positioned Choco facing the crack.
This will break the crack to reveal a cave.
3)There is also a Chocobo's Dream World which I did not mention in
this section. [Please refer to 'Chocobo's Abilities' section for
  details.]

=======================================================================
VI)Chocobo Hot and Cold Game
=======================================================================
Finally, I have covered something to this section. More information
will be added to this section in future.

General Tips:
------------
1)Be patient!!! If you can't find what you want, keep trying.
2)Practise!!! As a saying goes, practise makes perfect!!!
3)You will be in an advantage if you have an analog controller. Use
  the left stick to run.
4)If you keep getting 'Kweh', walk in straight lines and peck the
floor after walking about one and a half to two lengths of the
  chocobo's body.
5)If you keep getting 'Kweh!?', just like point 4) but peck each
time after walking about half to a length of the chocobo's body.
6)If you keep getting 'Kwehhh!?', take small steps and keep pecking
in this area. If you can't find the treasure, try changing the
  angle which you peck.
7)After finding the treasure, the location of the treasure is being
resetted. Search other areas and forget about the current area.

Chocobo's Forest:
----------------
1)After getting the Mt ability, you can climb onto the two rocky
ledges to search for treasures. Walk near the ledges and a '!'
  will appear.
2)From my own experience, possibility of the treasure being on one
of the ledges is very low. Always check the ground first before
you consider searching the ledges. However, if you do suspect the
treasure is on the ledge, quickly head onto the ledge and have a
ONE quick peck. If it shows a 'Kweh', that means the treasure is
not on the ledge. Then, quickly jump down the ledge and search
other places. If it's a 'Kweh!?' or a 'Kwehhh!?', I suppose you
know what to do. Search the ledge.

Chocobo's Lagoon:
----------------
1)Chocobo's Lagoon is a very good place to let Choco earn his beak
level because the area is quite small compared to Chocobo's Forest
  and Chocobo's Air Garden.
2)

Chocobo's Air Garden:
--------------------
1)There are two platforms where you can search your treasures. Make
use of the ramps to move between two platforms.
2)No treasure is ON the CLOUDS. Obviously, right?
3)From my own experience, majority of the treasures come from the
larger platform, that is where Mene is standing.

Item Points:
-----------
I do not have the list that shows how many points you will get for
each different item dug in each place. When I was playing the
Chocobo's Hot and Cold game, I forgot to record down the points.
Sorry about this!!! But, you should take note of these things:
1)For the same item, the points you get is doubled in Chocobo's
Lagoon, tripled in Chocobo's Air Garden when compared to Chocobo's
Forest. Eg. You get one point for finding a potion in Chocobo's
Forest, two points for finding a potion in Chocobo's Lagoon and
three points for finding a potion in Chocobo's Air Garden.

Bonus Points:
------------
Again, I do not have the list. Sorry about this!!! But, you should
take note of these things:
1)Once you dig four items in a game, you will be given extra 10
seconds more to dig. Furthermore, all the items you get will
  now be doubled.
2)The 'five second bonus points' applies if you can dig up the next
item within five seconds. For example, after finding a treasure,
you must find the next treasure within the next five seconds. The
'five second bonus points' actually vary from location to location.
You get five bonus points in Chocobo's Forest, ten points in
Chocobo's Lagoon and fifteen points in Chocobo's Air Garden if
you meet the 'five second bonus points' requirement.
3)If you successfully dig all the treasures, you will recieve
marvellous bonus points. How much you will get will depend on the
TIME LEFT and where YOU DIG your treasures. [Obviously, digging in
Chocobo's Air Garden gives you the most bonus points, with Chocobo's
  Forest, being the least.]
4)The maximum number of treasures you can dig per game is EIGHT. The
ONLY exception is in Chocobo's Lagoon before you get the Ocean
Ability. In this case, the maximum number of treasures you can dig
  per game is FOUR.

=======================================================================
VII)Item List
=======================================================================
While playing the Chocobo's Hot and Cold game, you gain certain points
for finding treasures. The points you gained during each game can be
accumulated and you can use your hard-earned points to exchange for
items. Simply talk to Mene to see your current points and you should
also see an option to ask you whether you want to use your points to
exchange for items.

VIII)Chocograph List
=======================================================================
Finally, the faq looks more like a Chocobo guide with the Chocograph
list being added. I will only give you an approximate location and
maybe, a few hints which I feel, is neccessary. This is because I
strongly feel that the greatest joy in this mini-game is to search
the treasures yourself. So, good luck! If you can't figure out where
a particular treasure is and want a decent picture of the treasure
location, visit this site as listed below:
http://www.thegia.com/features/ff9guide-j/ff9cgraph.html

The list took me a VERY LONG time to type. Please DO NOT use any
portion of the list without my PERMISSION. [I almost fall asleep
while typing out the list.]

The Chocograph list is below: [In Order]

IX)Chocobo's Abilities
=======================================================================
There are four Chocographs that lead to four special locations. Upon
finding these four locations, Choco will fall asleep and be teleported
to the Chocobo's Dream World. At Chocobo's Dream World, Fat Chocobo,
the god of all Chocobos will bestow a special ability to Choco such as
the REEF ability, Mt ability, SEA ability and SKY ability.

                                Table 7

Points To Take Note
-------------------
1)The abilities are cumulative, so Choco will not lose a previously
gained ability just because he has turned a new color. For example,
when Choco evolves from a light blue chocobo to a red chocobo, Choco
retains his ability to cross shallow water, but also gains another
ability to cross mountains, ridges or any other rugged terrains.
2)You can only enter and exit water from a beach. The same goes to the
Red Chocobo. You cannot go from land to water unless you go through
a beach. Even if you have gained the Ocean ability or Sky ability,
you still have to use the beach, no matter what.
3)The gold chocobo can ONLY land or fly in a FOREST. [When I said
'forest', it means any NORMAL forest in the world, NOT CHOCOBO's
FOREST!!!] To fly, put Choco in the forest and press the X button.
To land, press the circle button when Choco is hovering above the
  forest.

[Please refer to the 'Chocobo Navigation' section for the controls.]

Below is a table showing how to obtain each ability.

X)Evolving Chocobo
=======================================================================
This is a quick summary as to how to obtain a gold chocobo. When I
say Chocograph #4, it means the fourth Chocograph in the Chocograph
list. This section does not go to the details of playing the digging
game but it does give you a general idea of the steps involved in
obtaining a gold chocobo. I also assume that you already KNOW how to
PLAY the CHOCOBO HOT AND COLD game. I will create the steps in the
form of a flowchart. The left column will be the steps and the right
column will contain some additional note. I hope this flowchart will
be of some use to you.

[If you want tips and strategies, please refer to 'Chocobo Hot and
Cold Game' section. It's not ready yet but it's coming soon!!!]

can gain, please refer to 'Chocobo's Abilities' section.]

XI)Dead Pepper Treasure Locations
=======================================================================
After finding all the 24 chocographs and their respective treasures,
it is time that you should head to Chocobo's Paradise. [Refer to
'Chocobo-Related Locations' section for details on how to get to
Chocobo's Paradise.]

If you have not collected all the treasures, one of the hints that Fat
Chocobo will tell you is that there are treasures in the world map
that requires the Dead Pepper. The location to these treasures are
NOT found in the Chocographs. There are a total of eight locations,
where you can find treasures and you NEED a dead pepper. The treasures
can be found in places like MOUNTAIN CRACKS and FOAMING WATER.

Effect of Dead Pepper
---------------------
Before I give you the list of Dead Pepper Treasure locations, I
thought I will spend some time to discuss what are the effects of
Dead Pepper on a chocobo.

Besides Gysahl Greens, Dead Pepper is another favourite food for
chocobos. [I don't know why it's called 'Dead Pepper'. Pepper means
'Pepper' but why must there be a 'Dead' in front.] In the beginning
of your first few games in Chocobo's Lagoon and onwards, you should
be able to find plentiful Dead Pepper. Besides digging, you can also
get 99 Dead Pepper from the chocobo who is sitting to the left of
the Fat Chocobo. [Refer to the 'TIPS5' above.] When you give a Dead
Pepper to a chocobo, it gives a chocobo a 'temporary magical ability'
or 'excites' a chocobo to perform certain task like being able to
break cracks, dive into water and so on.

 ____________________________________________________________________
|Point |When Choco is... |Ability gain in that instant [Dead Pepper] |
|______|_________________|___________________________________________|
| 1 |On land |Causes Choco to peck, breaking cracks. |
|______|_________________|___________________________________________|
| 2 |On water |Dive into water. |

                            Table 9

Some points to take note: [With Reference to Table 9]
------------------------
1)Use a Dead Pepper on Choco when he's on land to cause Choco to
peck. The cracks break further to reveal a hole or cave. And,
inside the hole or cave will most likely to contain some treasures
or lead to a certain place.
2)Diving into water... Easily understand, right? Okay, you should
dive into foaming waters. The type of water where you see bubbles
coming out. Dive into these foaming water and Choco will return
with treasures that are buried underwater. An example of an
illustration is the foaming water in Quan's Dwelling.
3)The third point is quite easy to understand. You need to know this
to reach Chocobo's Air Garden. When you see a shadow on the ground,
hover the gold chocobo above it and use a Dead Pepper. This will
bring Choco and you to the Chocobo's Air Garden. [Please refer
to 'What's Chocograph Pieces?' section for details.]

In my opinion, these treasures are VERY hard to find, in the sense
that you don't have a Chocograph to look at. Not much clues are
given as well. No picture to look at, meaning no Chocograph. As
promised, these are the eight locations to the Dead Pepper Treasure.

 _____________________________________________________________________
|1)Foaming Water Beneath Quan's Dwelling |
|_____________________________________________________________________|
|Treasures |Ore(x9), Topaz(x15), Tiger Racket(x1), Red Rose Card(x1). |
|__________|__________________________________________________________|
|Advice |First, return to Quan's Dwelling on the mist continent. |
| |Enter the cave. Do you remember that there is an edge of |
| |the patio overlooking the ocean, where you can see the |
| |foaming water below. Search there and choose to use a |
| |Dead Pepper. Zidane then reappears on the World Map, |
| |riding Choco on the patio. Use the Dead Pepper and you |
| |will see Choco swan-dive into the bubbling water, |
| |retrieving the treasure. |

 _____________________________________________________________________
|2)Foaming Water Directly North Of Iifa Tree |
|_____________________________________________________________________|
|Treasures |Potion(x50), Hi-Potion(x25), Ether(x9), Elixir(x7). |
|__________|__________________________________________________________|
|Advice |There's a foaming water in the ocean at the extreme north |
| |of Iifa tree. Search around that area carefully and you |
| |should see it. |
|__________|__________________________________________________________|

 _____________________________________________________________________
|3)Foaming Water Directly Between Mist Continent and Outer Continent |
|_____________________________________________________________________|
|Treasures |Straw Hat(x8), Pearl Armlet(x8), Aloha T-shirt(x7), |
| |Sandals(x8). |
|__________|__________________________________________________________|
|Advice |If I remember correctly, the foaming water should be |
| |somewhere in the eastern part of the ocean connecting |
| |between Mist Continent and Outer Continent. Correct me if |
| |I am wrong. |
|__________|__________________________________________________________|

 _____________________________________________________________________
|4)Foaming Water At Southern Tip Of Forgotten Continent |
|_____________________________________________________________________|
|Treasures |Remedy(x10), Black Robe(x1), Genji Gloves(x1), Blue |
| |Narciss Card(x1). |
|__________|__________________________________________________________|
|Advice |Not much thing to say. The foaming water is very near to |
| |the continent. Search the waters along the southern part |
| |of the continent, you should be able to find the foaming |
| |water very easily. [Don't search the waters too far away |
| |from the continent. That's the hint I can give you.] |
|__________|__________________________________________________________|

 _____________________________________________________________________
|5)Mountain Crack On Eastern Part Of Lost Continent |
|_____________________________________________________________________|
|Treasures |Lapis Lazuli(x41), Rosetta Ring(x1), Protect Ring(x1), |
| |Airship Card(x1). |
|__________|__________________________________________________________|
|Advice |Not much thing to say. It's quite easy to find. |
|__________|__________________________________________________________|

 _____________________________________________________________________
|6)Mountain Crack On Northeastern Part Of Forgotten Continent |
|_____________________________________________________________________|
|Treasures |Eye Drops(x19), Madain's Ring(x1), Genji Helmet(x1), Hilda|
| |Garde 1 Card(x1). |
|__________|__________________________________________________________|
|Advice |There's a forest nearby the crack in the mountain. The |
| |crack is a little northeast from the mountain crack near |
| |Oeilvert. [See below!!!] The crack is on the mountain |
| |that faces south. |
|__________|__________________________________________________________|

 _____________________________________________________________________
|7)Mountain Crack Near Oeilvert |
|_____________________________________________________________________|
|Treasures |Maiden Prayer(x1), Dragon's Hair(x1), Gauntlets(x1), Odin |
| |Card(x1). |
|__________|__________________________________________________________|
|Advice |There's a forest nearby the crack in the mountain. The |
| |crack is somewhere a little northwest of Oeilvert. The |
| |crack is on the mountain that faces north. |
|__________|__________________________________________________________|

 _____________________________________________________________________
|8)Exact Former Location Of Shimmering Island |
|_____________________________________________________________________|
|Treasures |Aquamarine(x10), Ultima Weapon(x1), Maximillian(x1), |
| |Invincible Card(x1). |
|__________|__________________________________________________________|
|Advice |You can only do this in disc four, after World of Terra |
| |has been destroyed. Use Choco's SEA ability and move |
| |Choco to a position where the Shimmering Island once |
| |stood. You must position Choco exactly on the dot where |
| |"Shimmering Island" is shown on the World Map. Use a |
| |Dead Pepper and Choco will retrieve the treasures. |
| |Congradulations!!! You have obtained Zidane's strongest |
| |weapon, Ultima Weapon. |
|__________|__________________________________________________________|

 ___________________________________________________________________
|TIPS6 |While searching for these Dead Pepper Treasures, adjust the |
| |camera to have a closer view so you can see the cracks or |
| |foaming water better. |
|______|____________________________________________________________|

|TIPS7 |While searching for the treasures in the Shimmering Island, |
| |press the SELECT button to make sure that Choco is position-|
| |ed EXACTLY at the spot where Shimmering Island used to be. |
| |Choco is indicated by a yellow dot while the island is a |
| |white dot. |

XII)Chocobo's Revitalising Ability
=======================================================================
As an added bonus for finding all the treasures, Choco can learn to
restore your party's HP and MP completely, as well as remove any
status abnormalities. All you need to do is visit a beach.

First, find every treasure. [Treasures found in any dungeon, towns etc,
Chocograph treasures, Dead Pepper treasures,...] Then visit Chocobo's
Paradise and challenge Fat Chocobo to a card game. When you challenge
Fat Chocobo to a card game, he will give you clues to the beaches. It
isn't necessary to even play against him, as long as you challenge him.

Ride Choco to a beach and dismount. Then press the Circle button and
you will hear a chime. After you repeat this process on every single
beach, you will heal your entire party. You can now heal your party
completely just by visiting any beach and pressing the Circle button!

More Information
----------------
Here's some more information about Chocobo's Revitalising Ability,
Contributed by Brian Jakeman <chikarabrian@netscape.net>

You must find all the chocographs, Chocograph treasures and all
the Dead Pepper treasures. You must park your chocobo on a beach
and press the circle button and you will hear a chime. Repeat this
process on every single friggin' beach on the world map and then
all you will have to do, is park your chocobo on any beach in the
game and it will heal all party members' HP, MP, and satus effects.

|NOTE3 |If you have found all of the treasures, Fat Chocobo wants |
| |Choco to stay in Chocobo's Paradise. He will then give you |
| |the ultra-rare Fat Chocobo Card, as if it sounds like a |
| |consolation. But don't worry!!! Choco is a trustworthy |
| |friend. He won't abandon his friends. When you move back |
| |to the entrance, Choco rejoins you for more adventures! |

|NOTE4 |I have not gotten Chocobo's Revitalising Ability yet for |
| |some reasons. I got all 24 Chocograph treasures and all |
| |the eight Dead Pepper treasures but I can't seem to get |
| |this secret work. So, I guess that the list of treasures |
| |also includes the ones found in the dungeons, towns etc. |
| |If that's the case, I obviously can't get this ability for |
| |Choco because I have missed some of the treasure chests |
| |earlier in the game. TRY IT YOURSELF!!! |

|NOTE5 |I am not sure if you need a 'S' treasure hunting ranking |
| |to obtain Chocobo's Revitalising Ability. My current rank |
| |is only 'C'. yeah, barely passable. But, in case, you are |

| |determined, please refer to 'Treasure Hunting Ranking' |

XIII)Revival Of Mognet Central
=======================================================================
Chocobo Hot and Cold game and treasure hunting with Choco is by far
the most complex sidequest in Final Fantasy IX. Completing the
sidequest and getting a gold Choco is essential as it not only lets
you find many rare items and powerful equipments, it unlocks other
sidequests like the 'Dead Pepper Treasures'. Another sidequest that
depends on the gold Choco is the revival of Mognet. Because of this,
I thought I will, as well, cover the Mognet Central sidequest.

On your way through Esto Gaza to Mount Gulug, while delivering a
letter to Mogrika the moogle, you find out that the Mognet is
shutting down because of an incident. From this point onwards, the
Moogles will not ask you to deliver anymore letters.

You can reach Mognet Central in disc three with a light-blue chocobo
[with the Reef Ability]. However, you can only do the sidequest in
disc four. [I am not sure if you can do it in disc three. I did in
disc four.] See below to learn how to get to Mognet Central.

   __________________________
  /Location Of Mognet Central\
 /____________________________\____________________________________
|The Mognet Central is a rather big island located north of the |
|Outer Continent. On the eastern side of the island, you should be |
|able to find a crack in the mountain. What to do? Simply feed |
|Choco with a Dead Pepper to make him break the cracks. Enter to |
|find Mognet Central. Upon entering the Mognet Central, you will |
|hear the familiar Moogle theme. [I haven't heard this for long.] |
|__________________________________________________________________|

  /Personal Opinion \
 /___________________\_____________________________________________
|The Mognet Central sidequest is a rather tedious sidequest. In my |
|opinion, it is not really rewarding. You ONLY get a Protect Ring |
|in exchange for your efforts. Still, Moogle fans will definitely |
|like this sidequest. |
|__________________________________________________________________|

 __________________________________________________________________
|NOTE6 |I'll try not to REVEAL any spoiler information about this |
| |sidequest. To revive the Mognet, you have to deliver a |
| |a CHAIN of LETTERS from MOOGLE to MOOGLE. The bad thing is |
| |although the moogle tells you which moogle to deliver the |
| |letter, they will not tell you where the moogle is. Never |
| |mind, I'll help you. The details for the walkthrough will |
| |be in the form of a flowchart. |
|______|___________________________________________________________|

 __________________________________________________________________
|NOTE7 |Everytime you help a Moogle to deliver a letter to another |
| |Moogle, the Moogle that recieves a letter will give you a |
| |KUPO NUT. Remember the Moogle, Moguta in GIZAMALUKE'S |
| |GROTTO who likes to eat Kupo Nut? Everytime you recieve a |
| |Kupo Nut, give to Moguta. He will GIVE YOU a RANDOM ITEM. |
| |If you FORGET to give Moguta a Kupo Nut and deliver a new |
| |letter to a new Moogle, the Moogle will not give you a |
| |Kupo Nut because you can ONLY have ONE KUPO NUT in your |
| |inventory. In short, everytime you deliver a successful |
| |letter, recieve a new letter, give the Kupo Nut to the |
| |Moogle before you send the letter to the NEXT MOOGLE. |
| |[Please refer to 'Feed The Moogle Family' section for more |
| |details.] |

XIV)Feed The Moogle Family
=======================================================================
Everytime you recieve a Kupo Nut for successfully delivering a letter
between the moogles, you have to return to Gizamaluke's Grotto and
feed it to the father of the moogle family, Moguta. In exchange for
a Kupo Nut, you will recieve a random item. The random item includes
items like Tent, Phoenix Pinion etc.

During your 'Dead Pepper Treasures' hunting, you will recieve 7 Aloha
T-shirts. [It's the foaming water directly between the Mist Continent
and the Outer Continent.] But, you have eight party members. You can
get the 8th Aloha T-shirt by giving a Kupo Nut to Moguta in disc four
at Gizamaluke's Grotto. Now, you have the full set of Hawaiian gear.
Now, everyone is stylin'. So far, I haven't found a USE of these
Aloha T-shirt. Maybe, it's quite cool to have them in your inventory.

=======================================================================
XV)Treasure Hunting Ranking
=======================================================================
The true identity of the four-armed bandit will be revealed when you
have gained a treasure hunting ranking of "S". To your Treasure
Hunting ranking, simply speak to the Four-armed Man or the woman at
the Treno Inn.

Once you reach rank S, speak to the Four-armed Man in Daguerreo. He's
standing in the room where the moogle, Noggy is. When Four-armed Man
finds out that you are a Rank S treasure hunter, he will then become
intimidated and he runs out of the room abruptly. Follow him to the
entrance and he will then tell you about his true identity. [What's
his identity? You find it out yourself. My current Treasure Hunting
Ranking is only 'C' but then I have already know his identity.] After
that, he will hand you the 'Rank S Award' key item.

The treasure hunting ranking is determined by a point system:
1)1 point for every chest, searched Field icon, and item gained in
event sequence, and every rare item purchased in the Treno Auction
House [with the exception of Magical Fingertip and Pearl Rouge].
2)2 points for every chest found on the World Map while riding on
  Choco.
3)No points are awarded for items found while digging in the 'Chocobo
Hot and Cold' game or bought from Stiltzkin.

|TIPS8 |You might also want to take this opportunity and challenge |
| |Four-Armed Man to a Tetra Master card game. You can win a |
| |lot of DIFFERENT RARE AIRSHIP cards from him. |

XVI)Collector's Rank
=======================================================================
Strategy Guide
--------------
For those interested in getting the 1700 Collector's Point, this
might interest you. I defeated Ozma and got a key item called
'Strategy Guide.' And this is what it says:

"You must collect cards with triangles pointing in different
directions, or you can't achieve the highest rank!" =Grand Master|=

Note that I am not SURE if there's anything to do with obtaining
'S' rank. I didn't really go in-depth into the card game, Tetra
Master. Please don't blame me if this information is not relevant.
However, you can view your collector's rank that ranges from 0 to
1700 in the card menu.

Here's an additional information on how to get the maximum Collector's
Rank.

   ______________________________
  /Info About Collector's Points:\
 /_____________ __________________\_________________________________
|In regards to the 'Strategy Guide' that you got from beating Ozma, |
|it is refering to the placement of arrows on the cards. To obtain |
|all the 1700 collector's points, not only do you need to have all |
|the treasures and mini items [mini-cid etc], you must have every |
|card, each with a different arrow combination than another and all |
|of them must have the second letter with the letter A. |

XVII)KALISTO
=======================================================================
This is an exclusive information not found in any other faqs. Only
in 'ysf' faq. According to my friend, the pirated English copy of
Final Fantasy IX came out much earlier than the original English
version of Final Fantasy IX. I am not sure if this applies to other
countries but this definitely applies to Singapore. Somehow, places
like Philippines, Indonesia also have Kalisto versions.

My friend who bought the first batch of pirated Final Fantasy IX CD
told me this:

Everytime you play the pirated CD, you should see a nice AMIGA FONT
with the word 'KALISTO'. It also has a very cool background music.
It will ask you to 'PRESS ANY BUTTON!'. Press any button and the
usual logo with the words 'Published by Square Electronic Arts' will
appear and everything plays normally.

   _______________________________
/Why buy it in the first place? \
 /_________________________________\_______________________________
|When my friend first saw the AMIGA FONT, he thought he had bought |
|the wrong game. Hahaha!!! |
|__________________________________________________________________|

Here's the information that you might be interested:
a)Kalisto is name of a group of hackers online that released pirated
versions of games, including games for systems like Dreamcast and
  PlayStation 2.
b)Somehow, they seem to have an 'inside man' [I act 'blur'!!! Don't
go around spreading] in SquareSoft because they have Final Fantasy
IX 2 weeks earlier. They also released Chrono Cross two weeks
earlier than the actual release date.
c)Somehow, I made a mistake that you need the AMIGA FONT in order
to play the pirated Final Fantasy IX. According to The Glow, they
put their 'big names' there because Final Fantasy IX is a big title.
[Put their big names there? As if they haven't hurt the industry
  enough!!!]
d)The Kalisto version should play like the normal original game,
except that you will experience very frequent FMV gitches. A
few examples are the sound goes bad on the South Gate with the
Black Waltz on disc one, the last FMV on disc two with Garnet
sitting by Brahnes grave and on disc three when the FMV shows
  Garnet cutting her hair.
e)I heard that they translated the pirated ones from a rom. I am
not quite sure about this either. So far, my friend has spotted
one translation difference in the pirated copies. For example,
one of Steiner's action abilities is called Power Break. In the
original English copy, it is called Power Strike.

 __________________________________________________________________
|NOTE8 |Please DO NOT e-mail me and ask me about pirated games. |
| |Piracy is a rather sensitive issue so I will refrain from |
| |talking about it. I ONLY know this MUCH about KALISTO. |
| |DON'T KEEP ASKING ME ABOUT KALISTO. But, if you know some |
| |new information regarding KALISTO or find any information |
| |here wrong about KALISTO, you are WELCOMED to inform me |
| |about it. Credits will be given. |
|______|___________________________________________________________|

 __________________________________________________________________
|Credit|Thanks to The Glow <lordgokuo@mindspring.com> for telling |
| |me about my mistake in point c) [Corrected] and stuffs |
| |about Kalisto. Thanks to the new information he has given |
| |me, I have rewritten all the points from a) to c). |

|Credit|Thanks to Eon Strife <eon_strife@yahoo.com> and Mr. Aljoriz|
| |M. Dublin <aljay@i-cebu.com.ph> for some new information |
| |about Kalisto. But I won't add the information in, mainly |
| |because I feel that it might be too irrelevant. |

XVIII)Song Lyrics- Melodies Of Life
=======================================================================
Here is something that I can do for you, readers. Yes, it's the song
lyrics of Melodies Of Life, both in English and Japanese. With the
success of vocal songs like Xenogears' Small Two Of Pieces and Final
Fantasy VIII's Eyes On Me, Nobuo Uematsu's latest creation, Melodies
Of Life will definitely bring 'Final Fantasy Musical World' to a
whole new level. I have heard both the English and Japanese songs.
And, I will say that the Japanese song sounds much better than
English one. By the way, just to let you know, Melodies Of Life is
being sung by a Japanese singer, Emiko Shiratori. The English lyrics
are taken from this site:

http://www-personal.umich.edu/~nstevens/lyrics/ff9.html#molj

Melodies of Life [English]
----------------

Alone for a while I've been searching through the dark
For traces of the love you left inside my lonely heart
To weave by picking up the pieces that remain
Melodies of life--love's lost refrain

Our paths they did cross, though I cannot say just why
We met, we laughed, we held on fast, and then we said goodbye
And who'll hear the echoes of stories never told?
Let them ring out loud till they unfold
In my dearest memories, I see you reaching out to me
Though you're gone, I still believe that you can call out my name

A voice from the past, joining yours and mine
Adding up the layers of harmony
And so it goes, on and on
Melodies of life,
To the sky beyond the flying birds--forever and beyond

So far and away, see the bird as it flies by
Gliding through the shadows of the clouds up in the sky
I've laid my memories and dreams upon those wings
Leave them now and see what tomorrow brings

In your dearest memories, do you remember loving me?
Was it fate that brought us close and now leaves me behind?

(repeat)

If I should leave this lonely world behind
Your voice will still remember our melody
Now I know we'll carry on
Melodies of life
Come circle round and grow deep in our hearts
As long as we remember

The Japanese lyrics and the translation of the Japanese lyrics of
'Melodies Of Life' are done by Kaze Yagami <yagami@pacific.net.sg>

Melodies Of Life [Translation]
----------------
Wandered about without a destination
I searched on and on without a support
The memories that you gave me became a healing song to my heart

No promises were made then
No exchange of words are fixed too
Those days when we embraced and affirmed
Shall never return again

The picture of you waving hands in my memories
I can still hear you calling out my name

These tears that overflow shall become shining courage
Life will go on
Passing through the night
Continuing towards a doubtless tomorrow

Towards the sky where the soaring birds are
Various memories I shall probably leave
Those fruitless hopes and dreams
I shall forget them somewhere where I can't reach

Can a chanced meeting be called "by chance"
When the time that two must part will definitely come?

Even if it is a fate to fade
As long as you live
Life will go on
Forever As long as that strength remains Wherever it may be

Even if I shall die
As long as you live
Life will go on
Forever As long as that strength remains
Goes on wherever it may be

XIX)Frequently-Asked-Questions
=======================================================================
Thanks to the support from readers. The 'Frequently-Asked-Question'
section is here. Don't worry!!! I won't add too many questions unlike
my Final Fantasy VIII faqs.

If you have any questions that you would like to ask me, please read
below. You may find your answers to your problems here. More questions
will be added to the frequently-asked-question section with each new
update of the faq.

In future, if you wish to ask any questions, please read through this
frequently-asked-question section at least once. From now onwards, I
won't entertain anymore questions that can be found here in this
section. However, if the questions that you want to ask can be found
here and you still cannot solve it, feel free to e-mail me and tell
me what your problems are. If you don't describe the problems, then
I will not entertain. I hope you can understand that as I want to
reduce the number of junk mails that I get almost everyday. Also,
check out the TYPE OF E-MAILS that you should not SEND ME.

Gameplay Related Questions
--------------------------
Here is a list of questions that are related to Chocobo and other
gameplay stuffs.

=======================================================================

1)What is the use of the Dead Pepper? And, where can I find it? I
have been digging in Chocobo's Forest for hours without getting
one. I haven't got the Reef ability yet.

Please read the 'Dead Pepper Treasure Locations' section for more
details. I have added comprehensive details about Dead Pepper and
how to get it. Despite how many times I have stressed, I still
get e-mails from readers, asking me where or how to get Dead
Pepper. For goodness sake, please READ it yourself.

=======================================================================

2)I have been digging in a particular PLACE [Forest, Lagoon etc] for
hours without finding a single Chocograph.

All I can say is be patient!!! In future, please do not ask me what
to do if you have not been finding a Chocograph after playing the
'digging' game for hours. My own solution to you is continue your
game first. You can do the Chocobo's Hot and Cold mini-game later.

=======================================================================

3)I can't find a PARTICULAR Chocograph treasure or Dead Pepper
   treasure. Please help me!!!

I have listed down all the details, hints etc on how to find the
Chocograph treasures, from what I remember. The same goes for
Dead Pepper treasures. All I can say is be patient and keep
searching. If not, visit the site given below:

   http://www.thegia.com/features/ff9guide-j/ff9cgraph.html

I also have a 'Chocograph and Dead Pepper treasures' World Map
sent by Kaze Yagami <yagami@pacific.net.sg> and Ng Yeow Leong
<andy_ng_rulz@hotmail.com>. It marks the location of the
Chocograph treasures and Dead Pepper treasures in one single
World Map. But, it doesn't show the exact location of these
treasures in the field. Here's how to use this 'treasure'
   World Map:

    __________________________________________________
   |Symbol |What It Indicates!!! |
   |____________|_____________________________________|
   |Red Star |Indicates a Chocograph treasure. |
   |Yellow Star |Indicates a Mountain Crack treasure. |
   |Green Star |Indicates a Foaming Water treasure. |
   |____________|_____________________________________|

                          Table 10

The names of the treasures have been listed as well. The 'treasure'
World Map sent by Kaze Yagami <Yagami@pacific.net.sg> has the
names of the treasures written in Japanese while the 'treasure'
World Map sent by Ng Yeow Leong <andy_ng_rulz@hotmail.com> has
the names of the treasures written in English. I am sure most
of you will choose the World Map with the English names. However,
I STRONGLY advice you to check out the website I have given to
you above first. If you still need help, I will then send the
World Map to you. [The reason is I am VERY LAZY to send!!!]

=======================================================================

 4)I can't find this place. [Chocobo's Forest, Chocobo's Lagoon,
Chocobo's Air Garden, Chocobo's Paradise etc.] Please help me!

I have already discussed everything I know to get to Chocobo's
   Forest/Chocobo's Lagoon/Chocobo's Air Garden/Chocobo's Paradise.
The most commonly asked question is how to get to Chocobo's
Lagoon and Chocobo's Air Garden. If you can't find these places,
be patient and keep searching. If you still have problems,
describe your problems in details. I will try and help you. But,
it's guarantee that my advice will still be stuffs like what you
have seen in this faq because I have already put all the details
I know all in this faq.

=======================================================================

5)What does the foaming water look like? Can you give me a BRIEF
   idea?

Please read the 'Dead Pepper Treasure Locations' section for more
details. The foaming water is like a BUBBLING water. Find the
foaming water in Quan's Dwelling and you will have a BRIEF idea.

=======================================================================

6)I can't find the treasure in the foaming water in Quan's Dwelling.
There isn't an option to use Dead Pepper.

Oh... ENTER the QUAN'S DWELLING CAVE. Remember the area where the
clock stops? And, in this area, do you remember an edge of the
patio overlooking the ocean? When you check there, it will say
something like foaming water beneath. Yes, check that area and
it will ask you to use Dead Pepper. The REST is self-explantory.
In fact, the treasure in the foaming water in Quan's Dwelling is
the easiest to find. A MAJOR problem that people make is they
CAN FIND the foaming water in Quan's Dwelling [Maybe, they wasn't
really sure whether it's foaming water but they know that it's
bubbling water.] and they use a Dead Pepper but they FIND NOTHING.
The REASON is they did not enter the Quan's Dwelling cave and go
and examine the edge of the patio.

=======================================================================

7)I can't find the 'Mountain Crack near Oeilvert or on the Eastern
   Side of the Forgotten Continent'.

The locations of these two 'Dead Pepper Treasures' are very commonly
asked. I have already added in whatever details I can know to help
you to find these two mountain cracks. You just have to search the
areas thoroughly. The only advice I can give is adjust your camera
view and your perspective. It REALLY helps. Be patient and I'm sure
you can find these two treasures.

=======================================================================

8)Have you ever tried the Chocobo's Revitalising Ability? Can you
help me to get Chocobo's Revitalising Ability?

I thought I said I haven't tried it. I find it very TROUBLESOME to
search for the beaches. Besides, my brother is occupying the
PlayStation. I haven't had the chance to play Final Fantasy IX.
You just try it out yourself. I have put down everything I know.

=======================================================================

9)How do I upgrade my Chocobo? Can you help me? I need a gold
chocobo to get to Outer Continent.... blah... blah...

This is the type of question that I refuse to answer. I have
forgotten the exact question so I phrase it myself but the
meaning is still there. I deleted this e-mail when I saw the
question. Sorry, not to mean sarcastic but... Come on, did you
read the faq? I am not GOING to list down very steps in details
to tell you how to get a gold chocobo. You can find all these
details in my faq. If you have read the faq, [at least a little
bit], you won't be asking this question.

=======================================================================

10)What's the use of finding the eight Aloha T-shirts?

Check out the section called 'Feed The Moogle Family'. I haven't
really found any practical use for these Aloha T-shirts. Maybe,
it's cool to have them in your inventory. I really don't know.
If anyone knows the answer, you are welcomed to tell me.

11)What is the true-identity of the Four-armed Man?

Hmm... I don't want to reveal any spoiler. Anyway, I haven't gotten
the 'S' rank yet but I do know his true identity. I will give you
a hint. His identity starts with a letter 'G'. I suppose the hint
is so OBVIOUS that you can guess who he is. And, DON'T e-mail me
again and ask me about this question or is your guess about his
identity correct or not. I will NOT ENTERTAIN anymore. Despite
how much I have STRESSED that I am not going to ENTERTAIN such
question, I still recieve several mails asking for the identity
of Four-armed Man. If you have been playing many Final Fantasies
all this while, you should be able to guess who Four-armed Man
is VERY EASILY. If not, you just have to FIND it out yourself.

12)How many ways are there to get Robe Of Lords?

There are four different ways to get Robe Of Lords. You need only
three Robe Of Lords since only Dagger, Eiko and Vivi can equip
   it.

The first way is to play the Chocobo's Hot and Cold game and
earn 10,000 points and exchange the points for Robe Of Lords by
   talking to the moogle, Mene.

The second way is to play the Stellazzio: Zodiac Coins sidequest.
Give the 12th coin to Queen Stella and you will recieve a Robe Of
   Lords as a reward.

The third way is to defeat Hades and gain access to the Legendary
Synthesis Shop. You need to have a White Robe, a Black Robe and
30,000 Gil to get a Robe Of Lords.

The fourth way is to let Zidane steal. Bosses like Ozma and Hades
carry a Robe Of Lords. Equip Zidane's Master Thief ability,
which can be learned from Thief Gloves [bought in Treno's Auction
House.] and Bandit ability, which could be learn from Mythril
Dagger, N-Kai Armlet to ensure that Zidane has a good chance of
   success stealing.

As for me, I got one Robe Of Lords for playing the Stellazzio:
Zodiac Coins sidequest, one from the Legendary Synthesis Shop
and the third one by stealing it from Hades.

13)What's the use of the Autograph and Moogle Suit?

Like everyone, I haven't found any use for these two key items.
I found these two key items in Lindblum. If anyone finds any
use for these two items, you are welcomed to inform me. Maybe,
they serves not much purpose, other than to 'occupy' your Key
Item inventory. If I am NOT wrong, I THINK these two key items
also help to improve your 'Treasure Hunting Ranking.'

Non-Gameplay Related Questions:
------------------------------
Here is a list of questions that are not relevant to gameplay but you
might be interested to ask.

=======================================================================

1)Do you like Final Fantasy IX? Which is the best Final Fantasies?

I am not going to answer anymore such questions, which I did in my
Final Fantasy VIII faqs. You can find my opinions of other Final
Fantasies [V to VIII] in ALL my Final Fantasy VIII faqs. As for
my opinions about Final Fantasy IX, I have discussed a little bit
in the 'Introduction' section of this faq. So, I am not going to
   discuss anything more.

=======================================================================

2)When is Final Fantasy IX going to be out for the PC?

I don't know. No official announcement has been made yet. Most
likely, Final Fantasy IX is going to come out for the PC with
five discs, including the installation disc. Maybe, somewhere
   next year in 2001. I don't know.

=======================================================================

3)Why isn't there a PocketStation compatibility for Final Fantasy
   IX?

Don't ask me? Ask Square. Maybe Square thinks that not many people
have PocketStation and it's not wise to have a PocketStation
minigame in Final Fantasy IX. To me, this seems to be a good news
to me because I don't have a PocketStation.

=======================================================================

4)Is it true that Square doesn't allow too much publicity for Final
Fantasy IX and that they do not want publishers to release any
   walkthroughs for Final Fantasy IX?

I heard about this news. You are right! Square felt that there's
too much publicity on Final Fantasy VIII and because of that, too
much spoilers are revealed. For Final Fantasy IX, they emphasise
little on publicity. The ONLY English Final Fantasy IX guide sold
in the market is Bradygames Official Final Fantasy IX guide. Of
course, there's other Final Fantasy IX guide books as well but
it's in other languages. For example, I think I saw one Final
Fantasy IX guide books written in Chinese. I think it's published
in Hong Kong. I'm not really sure.

=======================================================================

5)Why does the Official Final Fantasy IX guidebook sucks so much?

Don't ask me! Ask the author, Dan Birlew and the publisher,
Bradygames. Like I said, instead of being ENHANCED by PlayOnline,
the guide book is being DEGRADED by PlayOnline. In fact, I am
VERY MAD with myself for buying the Official guidebook. They
should have taken more time to design the online Final Fantasy
IX guide at PlayOnline. You can easily tell that the online
strategy guide at PlayOnline seems to be produced in a rush.
Certain pages cannot be found when you type certain keywords
in. When viewing information about Chocobo in PlayOnline, it
says refer to the 'map below' but there ISN'T any MAP there.
It's badly designed and the frame sucks.

Let's not talk about the PlayOnline first. Let's talk about the
Official guidebook. I can easily spot quite a few printing
mistakes in the book. They should have taken some time and check
carefully before they publish the book.

I have a suggestion. If they want to prevent spoilers, I suggest
they release a Final Fantasy IX strategy guide CD ROM, together
with the book. Then, if gamers have further questions, they can
see from the CD ROM. But then, I still prefer that they put all
the information together in a SINGLE book. Something must be
WRONG with Dan Birlew when he's writing the book. Maybe they know
that the Offical guidebook will sell because it is written for
Final Fantasy IX so they don't care about the contents. Maybe,
they just want to please SquareSoft for doing this. I really
don't know. That's just my personal opinion.

=======================================================================

 6)What is PlayOnline?

PlayOnline belongs to SquareSoft. You can find more information
about the site at www.playonline.com, plus information related
to SquareSoft and maybe, future Final Fantasties. Upon going
there, you can choose to enter a Japanese site or a North
America site. There's also an online Final Fantasy IX strategy
guide at PlayOnline, specifically designed to be used together
with the Official Final Fantasy IX guidebook. In my opinion, the
online strategy guide sucks but you can find a lot of Final
Fantasy IX secrets there. By the way, you need to register to
PlayOnline first. The keywords that are found in the Official
Final Fantasy IX guidebook serves as a shortcut. There's also a
menu there but in a javascript form. If your browser cannot view
javascript, you have to know the keywords. Thanks to D. J. Jones
<fenderguy84@hotmail.com> for telling me about the menu in
   javascript form at PlayOnline.

=======================================================================

7)I can't log on to PlayOnline. Please help me!!!

Don't ask me!!! Contact SquareSoft. I am not the one responsible
   for creating PlayOnline.

=======================================================================

8)Why don't you let anymore websites to post your Final Fantasy IX
Chocobo Hot and Cold guide faq and Final Fantasy IX Secrets and
   Side Quest guide faq?

The reason is I find that it is VERY HARD for me to keep track
of webmasters who have been posting my faqs. Some webmasters just
post the faqs but always fail to update the faq. As a result, I
am very annoyed by this. Furthermore, some webmasters even refuse
to seek my permission before they post my faqs. A feeling tells
me that I can't trust these webmasters anymore. In the past, I
used to give permission to webmasters who has seek my permission.
Hmm... It would be good if more people from all over the world
can find my faqs if I let more webmasters to post my faqs in their
sites. But now, I realise that this idea isn't turning up well.
These two Final Fantasy IX faqs can ONLY be found in gamefaqs
and no other places. And, webmasters, please do not ask me for
any permission to POST any of my faqs.

=======================================================================

9)Can you send me your updated faq?

My most definite answer is no. If there's 1000 readers, do I always
have to my updated faq to 1000 people. It will be VERY troublesome
to me this way. Just go to www.gamefaqs.com and check if there's
any updates in the 'What's New' section. Or, you can go and check
   out my contributor page at:

   http://www.gamefaqs.com/features/recognition/1821.html

You can find all the faqs I have written, including reviews at
   my contributor page.

=======================================================================

10)Who is the singer who sung 'Melodies Of Life'?

She is Emiko Shiratori, a Japanese singer, I suppose. I don't
   really know much about her.

=======================================================================

11)Do you have the lyrics of 'Melodies Of Life'?

Yes. I have added the lyrics of 'Melodies Of Life' in my faq.
   Check it out yourself.

=======================================================================

12)Can I ask you a question regarding games via ICQ?

In the past, I used to answer questions via ICQ. But now, I don't.
I find that it's quite annoying when I was replying e-mails but
the ICQ messages keep popping up and I have to answer so many
questions together. If you have any question, do not ask me through
the ICQ. E-mail me instead if you have any question.

One more thing. Do NOT add my ICQ number to your CONTACT list.
Though I put my ICQ number at every faq, I did not expect everyone
to add my ICQ number to his or her contact list. The thing is I
already have a lot of contacts in my ICQ list. Those ICQ numbers
which I added to my contact list, are those who are my CLASSMATES,
   and my PENPALS.

Even if you add my ICQ number to your contact list, I won't bother
to add your ICQ number to my contact list. First, I HARDLY know
you well so it's unlikely that I will chat with you via ICQ. I
might as well save the trouble of adding your ICQ number to my
contact list. Secondly, if you have any question regarding games,
you can e-mail me and ask me. ICQ will not be needed at all. I
   hope you can understand this.

=======================================================================

E-mails That I Won't Entertain
------------------------------
1)Don't ask me anymore questions related to FUTURE Final Fantasies.
2)Don't ask me about superconsoles [PlayStation 2, Gamecube etc]
like which game system will win the war in future.
3)Don't ask me whether there will be a day that Square will develop
   games for Nintendo.
4)Don't ask me about piracy games. Piracy is a sensitive issue.
However, if you want to discuss about Kalisto, you can do so.
5)No chain mails. I hate all these stuffs. Forward and forward...
 6)No offensive language.
7)Question is NOT SPECIFIC enough. Don't ask me a question like
you can't find a PARTICULAR PLACE without telling me WHICH PLACE.
8)Question MUST be CLEAR and EASY TO UNDERSTAND. I will try and
reply every mail I get but if I can't understand your question,
I will not bother to reply.
9)No other LANGUAGES, except ENGLISH. I can't read these languages.
I only KNOW English and Chinese. No French, no German etc. But,
try not to e-mail me using Chinese.
10)Don't e-mail me and ask me for permission to post this faq in your
site. You should have seen the BIG NOTICE at the beginning of the
   faq.
11)No discussion of ANY REVIEWS.
12)Don't e-mail me and ASK ME WHERE to buy a PARTICULAR game.
