0.0   - UPDATE HISTORY

VERSION 3.0 :  November 28, 2001
        - Got information from Final Fantasy Art Museum, so I got the official Japanese
          names to some of the places. =P Also, I added a new section, Online Al Bhed
          Translators. I wanted to thank roadkill for his Translator, I really love it.
          Help save the time I spend trying to translate Al Bhed manually. If you ever
          visit the PERSONA 2 Eternal Punishment Boards at "GameFAQs", you can see I'm
          speaking [pretty much] fluently in Al Bhed there. =P And also, just for the
          Hell of it, Songs in Al Bhed! ^^;; I think I got every vocal Song in FFX
          excluding the "Feel/Go" Single.  Heh heh . . .

VERSION 2.0 :  November 26, 2001
        - Corrected some stuff. Forgot to add the English "V" in the American-Al Bhed
          section, and thanks to Kouli, I found the letter "J" in American-Al Bhed.  ^^;;
          Corrected the Script according to my needs. Also, QUESTIONs #6, #10, #11, and
          #12 in the FAQ section is brand new~! If anyone has played the Winter Jampack
          Demo with FFX include, I would love it if you can type up every Al Bhed spoken
          in there so I can decipher some more of the language and complete this Guide!

VERSION 1.0 :  November 13, 2001
        - Created the "Final Fantasy X Al Bhed Guide"! I am only working on both the
          Japanese and English versions of it -- I'd say it's like 60% complete. =} Oh
          yes, this is made in dedication to my sister:  Happy Birthday, Donna!  ^^;;

1.0   - INTRODUCTION
        Al Bhed is always an interesting language to me. =} Even in both the American and
Japanese versions of Final Fantasy X, I always see Al Bhed as being one of the most unique
and well-planned fantasy languages ever invented in a Video Game. Other fantasy languages
I can think of is the Dugbear language in Seiken Densetsu:  Legend of Mana.  LOL~!  ^^;;
This Guide is to help you out while playing Final Fantasy X in case you're too lazy to
look up the Al Bhed Dictionaries. Do note that ahead are major SPOILERS, but if you want
to read on ahead -- go ahead, brave soul!  Don't tell me I didn't warn ya!  ^^;;
        Well, I hope you love this Guide and please let me know your feedbacks on it! So
feel free to e-mail me any questions, praises, comments, or anything at all to me at
enigmaopoeia@hotmail.com. Do keep your flames in the trash where they belong. And thank
you, and happy reading!  ^^;;

2.0   - DECIPHERING GUIDE
        Here is a semi-complete list of the letters/characters in the Al Bhed language are
in Japanese or English. I also included in the Hiragana, Katakana, and Roumaji characters
in there. It is required you encode this in: Japanese (Auto-Select), to see the Hiragana
and Katakana characters used. ^^;; But if you don't have such a font, then read the
Roumaji part of it because it still works out.

3.0 - ONLINE AL BHED TRANSLATORS
        Here are Links to some Al Bhed Translators that I have found over the Internet, I
also included in my own little comments about them and ratings so you can figure out which
one works the best. =} Remember, these are my opinions only! ^^;; Oh yeah, with the
ratings, they are rated by 5 Stars: 1 Star means that it's a bad Translator, and 5 Stars
means that it's a good Translator.  ^^;;

COMMENTS: This is the very first Al Bhed-English Translator out there! Not only does it
           convert Al Bhed into English, but it also converts English into Al Bhed!  ^^;;
           This program is about 80% complete since the only letters this program is
           missing to translate are in Al Bhed: Q, W, and X, but it's missing these in
           English:  C, P, Q, X, and Z.  o.O;;  And also, there is a minor error in the
           program: It translate the key words. So Al Bhed becomes Ym Prat when it's not
           supposed to be translated. And also, some characters aren't translated such as
           numbers, brackets, parenthesis, and of the like.
RATING  :  3 out of 5 Stars.

        Here are the semi-completed scripts in Final Fantasy X which contains the Al Bhed
language and for your enjoyment, I have provided every translation for them. =} Makes it
easier on you in case you're having a hard time trying to understand. Do note that with
the Japanese translations, I tried to do them to the best of my knowledge, I'm not fluent
in Japanese, but I can translate it pretty well. =} I also provided the Roumaji of the
Japanese in case you think my translation might be wrong.  ^^;;
        When you find a Dictionary, it will translate a certain characters. The translated
text will appear in red while the untranslated Al Bhed would still remain in blue.

6.0 - LOCATION OF AL BHED DICTIONARIES
        Hey since this is all Al Bhed Guide, why not write the locations of the Al Bhed
Dictionaries while I'm at it? ^^;; Well, here it is, I also included in the Japanese
writings of the locations just in case if you can't read Roumaji. =} Then you can match
up the Kanji here to the Kanji on the screen to ensure you are in the right place.
        When you find a Dictionary, it will translate a certain characters. The translated
text will appear in red while the untranslated Al Bhed would still remain in blue.

The Al Bhed Dictionaries are written in Japanese as [Along with Roumaji and Translation!]:

9.0   - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
        Here is a listing of the questions and answers people might have about Al Bhed.

QUESTION #01: Why did you make a Guide on Al Bhed? Are you fluent in Al Bhed? And why
               make such a long guide though it's used only in Final Fantasy X?
  ANSWER #01:  Because I thought it's an awesome language.  =P  I never saw a fantasy-made
               language that actually worked, except for Al Bhed. =} Even in both the
               American and Japanese versions of Final Fantasy X made Al Bhed an enjoyable
               language to learn and understand. ^^;; So I want to write a Guide on my
               love for Al Bhed. Call me weird, so what? And no, I'm not fluent in Al
               Bhed, I read it better than I can speak it. =P And to answer the last
               question:  Because if you're having fun, have fun while it lasts!  ^^;;

QUESTION #02: Do you have any relations to the Al Bhed?
  ANSWER #02: Well . . . I can say that an Al Bhed in FFX has the same name as me, but in
               a different spelling. =} That is why I'm so attracted to Al Bhed. And
               that's Lin, BTW. My name is Lynn, his name is Lin. It works out. Funny
               though, I have a sister named Donna who acts like Summoner Donna.  o.O;;
               Also, the Seiyuu of Rikku is born on September 12th, I'm born on the
               opposite: September 21st. =P Also, I Cosplayed as Lisa Silverman from
               PERSONA 2 Innocent Sin who looks a heck of a lot like Rikku. And also, I
               learned a bit of Cantonese [Lisa's second language] as well as I have to
               learn a bit of Al Bhed [Rikku's second language]. =P I can go on forever,
               you wouldn't believe how close I am to being Al Bhed.  LMAO~!!  ^^;;

QUESTION #03: Is there a certain formula to Al Bhed?
  ANSWER #03: Well, I do notice some things, in both versions, they kept a certain formula
               which makes Al Bhed quite unique and easy to learn. First of all, in the
               American version, all of the vowels are the same, just scrambled while the
               rest are scrambled amongst each other. There is a similar fashion for the
               Japanese version in which the vowels at the end of the characters are the
               same, just scrambled amongst those of the same "category" as to say. Take
               a look at all of the Japanese characters ending with A, all of them are
               grouped together. So there is a "formula" of some sort that makes Al Bhed
               not that difficult.  ^^;;

QUESTION #04: If I wanted to write a word in Al Bhed, how do I do that?
  ANSWER #04: If you want to write an Al Bhed word in English, take your English word,
               let's use the word, "Dog", and then goto my ENGLISH TO AL BHED deciphering
               guide. Look up the letters D-O-G, and you'll get "Tuk". Tuk is Dog in Al
               Bhed. =} Do note that the Japanese does not have the same language as we
               do and if you want "Dog" in Japanese, you can go with either the Roumaji
               Doggu or Inu. Then goto my ROUMAJI TO AL BHED deciphering guide, and then
               Doggu becomes Gozzu and Inu becomes Misu. =} And if you want to translate
               Tuk, Gozzu, or Misu, then you use my AL BHED TO ENGLISH/ROUMAJI deciphering
               guide and retranslate.  ^^;;

QUESTION #05: Can I translate a word into Al Bhed using AL BHED TO ENGLISH/ROUMAJI first?
  ANSWER #05: NO! Because if you did do that, it'll come out wrongly translated. Let's
               use the word, Horse. If you went Al Bhed first, it becomes: Nyhmi. And if
               someone tried to translate Nyhmi, they get: Ranlu. Ranlu does not mean
               Horse. o.O;; That is why you must go ENGLISH TO AL BHED first and then it
               becomes Runca. Which is Horse translated. The same applies to the Japanese
               version, all you get is some unintelligent word.

QUESTION #06: Is it true that the Al Bhed language is buggy?
  ANSWER #06: Well, the Japanese Al Bhed is not buggy at all, but the American Al Bhed
               does have some bugs. Ya know when I said do NOT translate an English word
               using AL BHED TO ENGLISH first? [Read above!] Well, here are some weird
               exceptions to that rule. If you translated the word Dog into Al Bhed first
               than in English, it comes out the same way. Dog in Al Bhed first becomes
               Tyk. And if I translate Tyk in English, it becomes: Dog. o.O;; Even
               though Dog in Al Bhed is supposed to be: Tuk. I guess Square Soft of
               America should check up on that because this isn't a good sign.  -_-;;

QUESTION #07: Are there some words that aren't meant to be spoken in Al Bhed?
  ANSWER #07: Yes, and those are: People's names, locations, and key words. Let's say if
               I wanted to say, "My name is Rikku.", I wouldn't say in Al Bhed: "So hysa
               ec Neggi." or "AYANI KA NWORRU." I would say, "So hysa ec Rikku." or "AYANI
               KA Rikku." Do note that keep the key word as it is when speaking Al Bhed.

QUESTION #08: What does Al Bhed mean?
  ANSWER #08: According to the dictionary, Al Bhed derives from the word Albedo:

               Albedo \Al*be"do\, n. [L., fr. albus white.] Whiteness. Specifically:
               (Astron.) The ratio which the light reflected from an unpolished surface
               bears to the total light falling upon that surface.

               Makes sense since the Al Bhed are very Angelo-Saxan people with very white
               skin and light-colored hair.  Albedo is like Albino!  ^^;;

QUESTION #09: Is Al Bhed spoken any special?
  ANSWER #09: Well, seeing as how the Al Bhed are Angelo-Saxan'esque people. You are
               supposed to speak Al Bhed with a German/Slavic/Russian accent, it is better
               heard in the American version since the Japanese does not have this accent.

QUESTION #10: Why is Al Bhed spoken in CAPITAL LETTERS for the Roumaji version?
  ANSWER #10: Because it's supposed to separate the small letters sometimes used in the Al
               Bhed language. Such as a large YU and a small yu, what makes them different
               is when you are supposed to spell out stuff like the word: Shu. In order
               to make it, you must write out the word: SHIyu. [It's understandable if
               you know Japanese. ^^;; ] That tells you that a large SHI and a small yu
               makes the word: Shu. But I won't write it out like: SHIyu, I will write
               it as SHU. =P So when you see the word SHU written in Al Bhed, you know
               you need to look up the large SHI and the small yu for it's translation.

QUESTION #11: Why don't you write down the Al Bhed for words like Shu, Chu, and etc. for
               the Roumaji version?
  ANSWER #11: Because they can be easily written using the method that I wrote in the
               above question. Remember that the word, Shu, is written with a large SHI
               and a small yu, so you look them up: SHI in the Roumaji Al Bhed is KI and
               yu in Al Bhed is yu. So to make the word Shu in Al Bhed is: Kyu. It's
               a hard process trying to remember the convertsion, but it's easily to
               understand once you get the hang of it. =P

QUESTION #12: Why did you write the Japanese Al Bhed like this, "<YOMIYU HASHI KOO GA?>",
               and not "<YOMIYU HATSUKOOGA?>"?
  ANSWER #12: Because that is Japanese bunched up together. Like if I was to say "Gomen
               nasai", I won't say "Gomennasai". Yes, they are spaced in the Japanese
               version, but I arranged it so that if you were to translate it -- it is
               readable in Japanese. ^^;; That's how I feel.

QUESTION #13: Can I use this Al Bhed Guide for my Rikku Shrine, Al Bhed Shrine, Gaming
               Website, or my Final Fantasy X Fansite?
  ANSWER #13: E-mail me for permission first! I would get ticked if I see people using
               my Guide without my permission! >=( Even if you use snippets of it,
               that's still plaguarizing my work! I know my work when I see it! >_<

QUESTION #14: Is there an Al Bhed translating program?
  ANSWER #14: Yes, I've seen many Japanese Websites whom created their own translating
               programs for Japanese-Al Bhed. Until I find a working one, I'll post it up
               for viewing.  =}  I have found an English-Al Bhed Translator though!  ^^;;

QUESTION #15: How can you write about the Al Bhed language in English when the American
               Final Fantasy X isn't even out?
  ANSWER #15: It's called that I watched a movie and saw screenshots on famous Websites.
