-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
In EX Edition, the way you play the game is somewhat different from the other
versions of Marvel VS Capcom. You select your primary character, and are then
given a choice between Partner Characters and Special Characters. Partner
Characters allows you to choose a second character for Team Hyper Combos.
Special Character allows you to choose one of the "minor" characters for
infinite uses, and infinite automatic use during a Duo Team Attack.

So, for example, if I were to choose Ryu as a Partner Character and perform a
Team Hyper Combo (Down, Down-Forward, Forward, Strong Punch+Strong Kick), Ryu
would jump onscreen to fire his super move, then immediately jump offscreen
once the move was completed.

If I were to choose a Special Partner, say Cyclops, I could summon him an
infinite number of times per round by pressing Medium Punch+Medium Kick. If I
did a Duo Team Attack (Down, Down-Back, Back, Strong Punch+Strong Kick), he
would automatically keep appearing to fire his beam, and then immediately leave
until time ran out.

The exception to these two rules is Cross Over mode, which allows you to switch
between two characters at will and summon Special Partners a limited number of
times. The only catch is that you must have the same two normal characters.

Basic Info on Mega Man

You either love Mega Man, or you downright hate him. Guess which side I'm on?
His ability to string together long combos with his large variety of attacks,
and his super-powered hyper combos make him a force to be reckoned with. His
small size also makes several of the larger characters' attacks go right over
his head. Unfortunately, he is not good at defending. My personal favorite
character.

Entrance: Mega Man teleports in keeling, gets to his feet after a second.

Switch in: Faces the camera and gives them the peace sign.

Switch out: Faces the camera, gives the camera the peace sign, and says "Bye
bye!"

Victory pose: Faces the camera, holds up his Mega Buster. He has a ton of
variations on this, like one where Rush projects an image of Dr. Light and Mega
Man gives the peace sign, Eddie's top pops open and a cake is inside, etc.

Taunt: Crosses his eyes, sticks out his tongue, and gives his opponent elephant
ears.

Special Moves

Mega Buster
Fierce Punch

No wonder everybody hates Mega Man. He has a one-button fireball, matched by
only a few others (Cable from MvC2, Cyclops from X-Men VS Street Fighter). You
can have up to two shots onscreen at a time, although you must fire one in the
air before following up with a second one on the ground. You can also charge it
up by holding down Fierce Punch longer. If it is held down until Mega Man
starts blinking rapidly, you will be able to hit anywhere from three to eight
times with one shot. A good finisher to any combo. Just hold down Fierce Punch
before you set up the combo.

Handstand Kick
Fierce Kick

Mega Man does a handstand and kicks the opponent into the air with both feet.
This is your primary attack to knock your opponent into the air and start an
air combo, although you have to be at close range to make use of it.

Sliding Kick
Back+Fierce Kick

First seen in Mega Man III, this wasn't actually an attack, but he makes use of
it here. It is fairly quick and allows Mega Man to go under many projectiles,
so you can avoid projectiles and knock your opponent to the ground. If your
opponent is blocking high, you can also launch a quick Slide to knock them
down. It also makes a good combo finisher.

Mega Uppercut
Forward, Down, Down-Forward, Punch

A move similar to Ryu's Shroyuuken attack. Mega Man becomes surrounded with
blue energy, and delivers a massive uppercut to the enemy. The strength of the
punch depends how high you will go into the air. A good combo finisher and a
good anti-air attack to boot.

Special Weapon
Down, Down-Forward, Forward, Punch

This move activates Mega Man's special weapon. He can use the Tornado Hold,
Mega Ball, or Leaf Shield. You can only equip one weapon at a time, but it can
be switched at will during the fight.

Select Mega Ball
Down, Down-Back, Back, Weak Kick

Eddie appears and drops a small item ball. When Mega Man picks it up, he gains
the Mega Ball Ability, which drops a small soccer ball. When kicked, it will
bounce around the screen two or three times. Not very effective, but it can
stun your opponent momentarily or interrupt a jump-in attack or combo.

Select Tornado Hold
Down, Down-Back, Back, Medium Kick

Eddie appears and drops a small item ball. When Mega Man picks it up, he gains
the Tornado Hold Ability, which fires out a small propellor that launches an
upward tornado attack, and can hit three or four times. The strength of the
Punch button used affects how far the propellor flies out from Mega Man's gun.
A good deterrent to charges and air attacks.

Select Leaf Shield
Down, Down-Back, Back, Strong Kick

Eddie appears and drops a small item ball. When Mega Man picks it up, he gains
the Leaf Shield ability. This ability creates a shield of leaves around Mega
Man that will block one shot. Repeat the motion to throw the shield at the
enemy, potentially hitting them up to eight times. While it is rather weak, it
does stun them for a moment, and you can follow it up with a charged fireball
to hit 10-16 times.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hyper Combos

Hyper Mega Man
Down, Down-Forward, Forward, two Punches

Mega Man, Eddie, Rush, and Beat all fuse together into a huge robot, which
fires out several animals and missiles, and a huge laser beam. While the move
can be cancelled if Mega Man is hit during it, the opponent will also be
knocked back if too close to Mega Man, thus leaving them completely open to the
beam. Tapping the Punch and Kick Buttons rapidly during this move will launch
out more missiles, potentially hitting more times. Hits anywhere from 10-30
times.

Rush Drill
Down, Down-Foward, Forward, two Kicks

Rush transforms into a drill car, which Mega Man jumps into. You can fire the
thrusters on the back by tapping any button rapidly, thus juggling the opponent
for more hits, and you can freely control the car by pressing left or right on
the control pad. You can also cause the car to jump by tapping Up. This move
does a good amount of chipping damage if blocked, and it can turn around if the
opponent tries to jump it. Best of all, you are completely immune to attack for
about five seconds! Can potentially hit up to 20 times.

Beat Plane
Down, Down-Back, Back, two Kicks

Beat appears and transforms into a small plane, which Mega Man hops into. You
can drop missiles by tapping Kick, and fire lasers by tapping Punch. This move
potentially hits up to 40 times, doing some good chipping damage if blocked. If
your opponent is in the air, you can potentially juggle them all the way across
the screen by getting close enough to hit them with the bombs and lasers at the
same time. Unfortunately, the move is cancelled if you are hit, although you
can do the attack in the air to reduce the chances of being knocked out of it
early.

Victory Quotes

"I won! What new abilities have I acquired?"
"I cannot lose! I must become stronger!"
"You need more power? Maybe if you beat me..."
"Your weapons are too weak to help me!"
"Nice attacks, but I like my Mega Buster the best!"

Ending

Mega Man picks up a small weapon dropped by Onslaught and teleports away. Then
it goes to a screen that says "You got Magnetic Shockwave!" and shows Mega Man
firing the weapon repeatedly, kind of like when you would collect a special
weapon from a boss in the Mega Man series.

SEE THE TRICKS SECTION. THANK YOU.

Character Strategy

Captain America- Captain America is a large target with pretty long range.
Fortunately, if you keep moving rather quickly, he won't be able to do much
damage. Pop him into the air and hit him with a combo.

Captain Commando- Argh. He just likes to keep you away with downward lightning
blasts and horizontal fireballs. Do the same to him and fire some charged-up
shots followed by a combo. Watch out for his Captain Storm, though. Leap over
him as he dashes at you. When he uses the Captain Sword, it's usually because
he's trying to get you while you're above him. To avoid the full force just
don't jump over him too often.

Jin- Jin doesn't have many combos, but his individual attacks are powerful. His
Tornado and Ground Eruption attacks can be deadly if he catches you at the
wrong time. Fortunately, he doesn't have any long-range projectiles, so a few
Mega Buster shots will do some good. Follow it up with a Rush Drill or Hyper
Megaman. When he activates his armor, it will be harder to stun him with
attacks unless you nail him rapidly.

Mega Man- This guy can be pretty tough. He's just as hard to hit as ever, and
his special moves are just as hard to anticipate as yours. The computer likes
to air combo you and nail you with the Beat Plane and Rush Drill constantly.
Block to avoid both and retaliate with a Hyper Mega Man.

Ryu- Your best bet with Ryu is to attack him with jumping attacks. A jump-in
kick followed by a quick combo will work wonders. Avoid his flashy fireballs
and uppercuts by blocking.

War Machine- Pretty much Mega Man's opposite. He's good on defense, although
large and slow. His laser-based attacks can be pretty dangerous because of
their multiple-hit capabilities, especially his Solar Cannon and Proton Cannon.
Block if you see either of those coming and retaliate with the Rush Drill.

Hulk- Don't underestimate this guy. He may be big and slow, but his strength
and Mega Man's weak defenses will ensure that you get a pounding if you let
down your guard. If he gets too close, Super-jump over him and try to launch a
combo on the way up. Just be sure to not go for ground combos too often, his
Super Armor prevents him from being knocked around unless you land a few hits.
Your best bet is to try to juggle him multiple times with the Rush Drill and
some Team Hyper Combos.

Venom- Venom is big and relatively fast for his size. He likes to play
keep-away with his Venom Rug and bat you out of the air with one of his Venom
Fang attacks. He will also occasionally try for a Death Bite hyper. Since his
defense is pretty tough, nail him with some combos and Rush Drills every time
you see an opening.

Spider Man- Spidey is not too strong, but he is pretty small and fast. He'll
usually try for a Maximum Spider attack. Be sure to block that (it only hits
once if you block) and retaliate with a Buster shot. Some combos and Beat Plane
attacks will help.

Wolverine- The Combo king. Small, fast, and generally deadly. Block his supers
and retaliate with a quick Rush Drill so that he can't hurt you in the process.
A few Tornado Holds will also pop him into the air and leave him open
momentarily...

Gambit- Mr. Cajun is pretty fast, has a deadly Hyper Combo (Royal Flush), and
he is good at combos. You have the size advantage in this bout, and if his
projectiles miss they leave him open to a quick combo every now and then. Rush
Drill will also protect you from his annoying Kinetic Cards.

Morrigan- Argh. She's pretty fast, and she has that super-fast, super-deadly
Soul Eraser. If you see the bats fly out, block! Aside from that, hit her with
a combo whenever you see an opening, and throw a Hyper Mega Man at her every
now and then. Just be sure she doesn't get off that blasted Soul Eraser.

Chun Li- Chun Li can be tough. She does have some terribly powerful moves, like
that upward-juggling kick that does a ton of damage. Try to keep your distance
from her, as most of her attacks are short range. An occasional combo can't
hurt.

Strider Hiryu- Fast, combo-happy, and tough. Your best bet is to fight fire
with fire, and go for combo juggles. An occasional Rush Drill will also help
ensure your victory.

Zangief- It may be just me, but I have never found this guy difficult to beat.
He's just too big and slow, and none of his moves are truly effective if you
can keep away from him. Blast him with projectiles and throw a Hyper Mega Man
or Beat Plane at him every now and then. If he goes into his Super Move,
super-jump to avoid the grab and a lot of damage.

Shadow Lady- Shadow Lady uses pretty much the same strategy as Chun Li, except
that she makes use of her Drill Arm, Galaxy Missile, and Big Bang laser, all of
which hit several times and can do major damage. Do a super-jump and block if
you see one of these coming, and retaliate with a combo.

Lilith- Since all of her moves are similar to Morrigan's, you can use the same
strategy. But a major plus- she doesn't have the deadly Soul Eraser!

Red Venom- Argh. This guy is fast and powerful, but he takes a lot of damage
from each blow you land. Nail him with a Rush Drill to avoid his long reach,
and use hit-and-run techniques to stay out of range of his attacks.

Red Hulk- He's actually more vulnerable than Hulk, as he doesn't have the Super
Armor. You can nail him with a combo without much fear of retaliation. Just be
sure to stay away when he starts swinging at you, he's a lot faster than the
normal Hulk and just as strong. Use the Rush Drill to avoid his powerful
attacks.

Gold War Machine- Arrrrggghhh. This guy is powerful, and he has Super Armor.
Fortunately, he's REALLY slow and he can't block your attacks. Use the Rush
Drill and Hyper Mega Man liberally, and duck under his Proton Cannon. The
attack won't be able to hit you once if you duck down and don't block.

Roll- Well, Roll is even shorter than Mega Man, so she can be tough to hit.
Other than that, though, she's basically just a weaker version of Mega Man, so
you shouldn't have much trouble winning.

Onslaught- In his first form, he will usually teleport away avoid the full
force of the Hyper Mega Man, so nail him with the Rush Drill instead. Block or
dodge his Magnetic Tempest, charge attack, and huge beam. If you are
unfortunate enough to take the force of a Magnetic Tempest, your super bar
should be maxed out (or close to it). Just fire away with the Rush Drill until
he's toast.

In his second form your best bet is to fly up near his head and nail him with
the Beat Plane quickly and furiously. Whilst you pummel on his head, he'll
probably launch some missiles to hit you. Just ignore them and keep firing at
Onslaught's head- you'll be doing a lot more damage to him than he does to
you.. When he uses the "Mighty Hand," quickly get in the Rush Drill and get a
few hits off on his hand (or jump to avoid it and attack his head). Shoot down
his Hyper Grab with a quick Buster shot, and block when he fires the eye
lasers.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Due to the large amounts of emails I've gotten from one or two rather rude fans
of MvC: Ex Edition, I've added this tricks section to the guide.

Apparently, Mega Man's ending may not be as much of a joke as I thought. I've
heard that it is indeed possible to do the Shockwave Hyper Combo with Mega Man.

I have not verified this trick yet, so don't complain to me if it doesn't work.

Note: Supposedly, you must complete the game at least once as Mega Man and hold
the Select button as you pick Mega Man on the select screen to enable the
Shockwave.

Magnetic Shockwave
Down, Down-Back, Back, two Punches

I'll just assume that this basically behaves just like Onslaught's Shockwave.
Onslaught's move sweeps across the screen and picks up the opponent, and,
providing they don't block, sweeps them across the arena, inflicting
progressively more damage the farther it travels.
