Included you will find

1) information for pilots unfamiliar with SATCO or IVPA

2) links to required scenery for FS98 users

3) files with STARS, SIDS and IAP’s for the region

4) flight plans to and from the area in text, FSNavigator and SquawkBox format

Startup Information

If you have never flown on the Simulated Air Traffic Controllers Organization (SATCO) you will need some software and certification.  Download and install SquawkBox.  Obtain a Pilot Identification Number (PID) from the International Virtual Pilots Association (IVPA).  Take the time to go through the training that is offered.  It will ensure a much more enjoyable experience for you when you start on-line.  To be sure you have all the current data for SquawkBox download the current update from Prabal.  Most of us who are voice rated will use Roger Wilco to serve you with voice communications.  If you are able, we all enjoy voice more than text.

FS98 Scenery

If you use FS98 you will need additional scenery.  Doug Keech provides scenery we use for Manitoba and Saskatchewan however all his work is highly recommended for anyone flying in Western Canada.  Our recommended file for Northwestern Ontario is by Roger Stewart.  If you use FS2000 you should not need additional scenery.

Charts

Charts for Winnipeg, Regina, Saskatoon and Thunder Bay are included in the zip file.  Charts for all other major airports in the Winnipeg FIR can be downloaded here.  A text version of IAP’s is available here.

Flight Plans

Several flight plans are included in the zip file for SquawkBox and FSNavigator.  Place the *.sb files in your SquawkBox directory.  Place the *.fsn files in your FSNavigator directory.  A Word text version is included in the zip file.  To get the most out of FSNavgator or other well-known flight planning programs, update your navigation data at Krishna Swamy's page.

With all this properly installed you’re welcome to join us in the YWG FIR.  You’ll find us in west-central Canada.  WhazzUp, a very useful program by Enrico Schiratti, will help you to see when we’re online or you can check the SATSERV page.
