Feilding Airport Version 2.0 for Flight Simulator 2000. 20-06-01
*******************************************************

( NOTE : YOU NEED TO ADD A FLATTEN COMMAND TO THE SCENERY.CFG FOR THIS SCENERY TO WORK -see below in installation instructions)

Version 2.0

Version 2.0 fixes an initial location bug. In Version 1.0 the new runway is not in the exact place that the original microsoft default runway was. Therefore when you first loaded up my scenery you would find yourself quite a distance from the runway on the wrong heading. I have solved this problem by relocating the new pcl runway, overlaying the old default runway, and fixing up the initial location settings.It does mean you have to taxi a little further from the main hangar to the runway. But on the plus side, overlaying the default runway with my runway means that FSNAv, nav23 and GPS programs now work properly with Feilding.

To run the scenery you need to choose Goto Airport and select Scenery from FS95 and before

This will give you two choices
Feilding - Runway 10
Feilding Main Hangar

Version 2 also adds photorealistic trees ( with seasonal changes ) along the fence line, some people around the main hangar, some cows near the runway, pine trees on the approach path, illuminated power lines, illuminated airfield sign, fuel box built into helicopter pad, taxi apron etc

INTRO:

	I did attempt some scenery design for FS98 a few years ago ( have a look at my East Timor on www.flightsim.com ). However this is my first attempt at scenery design for FS2000. I was based at Ohakea for most of my air force career and now I am lecturing at Massey University School of Aviation. An excellent rendition of Ohakea has been done by my airforce colleague Deane Baunton and an excellent Palmerston North has been completed by Clive Ryan. Because I am still getting to grips with ASD 2.1 and Airport 2.6. , I actually used both to produce this scenery!.. I decided to have a go at Feilding which is a small airfield approximately halfway between Ohakea and Palmerston North. The default scenery only consists of a runway and a fuel box so i figured anything would be an improvement.
The airfield caters mainly for lighties, weekenders, microlights, gliders, and a few agricultural operators. The single paved runway is only 2,300 ft in length....
 It doesnt have any major hangars or a control tower as such but is really just a collection of pre-fabricated tin sheds.
Also being so small it doesnt even have any navaids.
 However it does have rudimentary taxiway lighting and runway lighting.
 It is not exactly accurate but a fairly close representation of the real airfield. I really used Feilding as an ideal experiment for me to learn how to drive ASD and APT2.6 so buildings etc are fairly generic.

1. LEGAL

This scenery is freeware.

You may use this scenery freely, however there is absolutely no warranty or
guarantee of any kind, expressed or implied, for any problems arising from
the use of this scenery add-on...

2. FEATURES

	This is version 2.0 you may want to have a look at my version 1.0 on this site which has less static objects and may be more suited to pentium 100- 300 MHZ machines

Firstly ALLTHE scenery objects are scaled from very sparse to extremely dense to allow you to adjust for frame rate if necessary.....At very sparse you just get the runway and taxiways. Obviously very dense gives you everything.. however I have tried to construct this scenery to have a LOW frame rate even at extremely dense settings. Please give me some feedback as to frame rate ....

I have incorporated a few nice features ( some of which are obviously not available in the real airfield ) :

  The Runway has Pilot Controlled Lighting and can be activated by tuning 118.00 on the COM 1 radio , as soon as you change the frequency however the runway lighting goes off (which is not quite right .. it should stay on for 15 mins .. something to do with global or local variables. i couldnt fix it sorry?? )

 The Windsocks are animated and vary in angle according to wind speed, and direction according to wind direction. Also they are illuminated at night.

Some buildings have night lighting. I have also included a lighted helicopter pad ( with built in fuel box ) and of course a lighted oversize fuel box with bowser and storage tank...

There are some static light aircraft, cars in the carpark, static jetranger, static microlights, fences around airfield, power pylons ( with illuminated power lines ) , photo realistic trees along the fenceline, railway line, some attractive ladies near the main hangar you might want to say hello to , and because this is a rural airfield a few cows near the runway.. and secondary roads, and finally an illuminated aerodme sign near teh main hangar

The taxiway has a yellow line and is illuminated at night

I always get annoyed when an airfield has no navaids so i invented some for Feilding. If you are a into super realistic airfields then ignore them and use Palmerson North navaids VOR 113.4, NDB 258 or GPS Feilding S40 15 24 E 175 36 13.....

For those who want some navaids I have included a lighted NDB tower adjacent to the runway which works on - freq 253.KHZ
Also the airfield provides ATIS on 121.00 MHz

INSTALLATION:

The zipped file includes all bgls and necessary textures , however it does not include seed textures. So if you are having any problems with textures not appearing you may need to download and install Aip210tx.zip and asd21txt.zip from www.flightsim.com.

PLEASE NOTE::: I use this scenery with default NZ scenery activated and the NZ 150 Mesh scenery activated. Because it is so small it should not affect any other activated NZ sceneries or combinations of NZ sceneries and mesh sceneries. Initially I was going to include the flatten file within an AREA16 bgl, but just like Deane Baunton's experience, I found the creation of an Area16 bgl a bit dodgy and have played safe by including a flatten command example for you to amend your scenery .cfg.I know this is a hassle but I will try and include the flatten command within an area16 bgl in Feilding version 2.0. BUT FOR NOW! you need that flatten command to make the scenery work properly. SEE BELOW for instructions

Unzip the file (make sure when you extract it , you tick the box in winzip which says use folder names ) to a folder of your choice, usually C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\FS2000\Scenery. The files will automatically go - in this case - to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\FS2000\Scenery\Feilding\Scenery and C :\Program Files\Microsoft Games\FS2000\Scenery\Feilding\Texture

You might have to copy the textures into the main FS2000/texture directory if they dont work correctly in the scenery....
 If you still have texture problems you may need to download airport 2.1 textures and ASD v2.1 textures from www.flightsim.com....

Also if the frame rate drops too low you can improve the situation by deleting the hangt_cs*.* ( microlite textures ) and the jetrangr*.* (helicopter textures ) . The static aircraft look ok from a distance without them. Otherwise drop the scenery complexity to NORMAL.

*************************************************************************
FINAL STEP : You must unzip the newtrees.zip and follow the instructions in the readme.txt in that zip file to install the new generic photorealistic trees into the scenedb directory of FS2000. There is a tree bgl library + textures which must be installed as its own scenery with priority level about 7 or 8.If you dont install it the feilding scenery will probably not work ...
************************************************************************

Then go into Flight Simulator and go to Scenery Library. Click on Add Scenery and locate the Feilding folder where you unzipped it. Highlight it then add it and it should appear in the Scenery Library list. Next click in it's box so it's selected as used scenery and then exit the Scenery Library by clicking OK. Then exit FS2000 and install the flatten command.....

FLATTEN COMMAND

After installation, exit FS2000, use Notepad and amend your scenery.cfg in the FS2000 directory to include the following Exclude and Flatten command EXACTLY! as written.
Please note the Area no. , layer number and local directory would probably be different for your scenery.cfg than the example below. You will need to amend it accordingly.

[Area.085]
Title=Feilding
Local=C:\FS2000\SCENERY\feilding\scenery
Active=TRUE
Layer=85
Exclude=S40 14.32,E175 14.39,S40 16.48,E175 38.3,objects
Flatten.0=214,S40 16.47,E175 34.,S40 14.32,E175 14.34,S40 14.34,E175 38.,S40 16.48,E175 38.3

Finally when you are back in FS2000 select World from the menu bar and to run the scenery you need to choose Goto Airport and select "Scenery from FS95 and before"

This will give you two choices
Feilding - Runway 10
Feilding Main Hangar

Contact me straightaway if you have any problems with the scenery at S.Reweti@massey.ac.nz.

Version 3.0 will include dynamic scenery
