Add-on Scenery for
Athens International Airport Eleftherios Venizelos (ATH/LGAV)
Version 1.2 (2002)

This is the new version of the Athens Intl Airport ATH/LGAV scenery and will work with both FS2000 AND FS2002.  The original version of this scenery took approximately 18 months of development and was released last June.  Since then, my free time was limited, but I tried to make the scenery more 'frame rate' friendly.   The original was not bad, but did have a noticeable fps hit.

I think that in this version I have achieved the best currently possible frame rates while keeping the visuals of the scenery within highly detailed levels.  You will notice that the scenery is vast with detail and with some add-on aircraft the performance is not the best possible.  I am trying to learn how to use GMax so I can redesign the buildings and 3D objects in GMax.  Currently I do not have much free time to do that.
I believe that the next version of the scenery will be in GMax pushing the frame rates even higher.
But that means that this will be the last version that works in FS2000.

General Information

The Eleftherios Venizeols airport is located 35Km East, South East of Athens Center.   Completed in September 2000, it became operational on 28th of March 2001 replacing the Athens Hellenikon airport which operated as the main Athens airport since 1938! (Athens Hellenikon Scenery is also available from the Hellenic virtual ACC site, AVSIM library and various FS sites around the Internet)
The new Athens International Airport honors the name of Eleftherios Venizelos, one of the greatest Greek politicians who has offered a lot to Hellas and the nation.
The airport is equipped with two (2) parallel runways 4Km long each, and 1575m apart, allowing for simultaneous operation of both runways.  It's facilities include one large passenger terminal, a smaller satellite terminal accessible from the main terminal by underground connection, one large cargo terminal and plenty of room for expansion in the future.  Currently, in this initial phase, the airport is capable of handling 16 Million passengers per year.
Eleftherios Venizelos airport is one of the biggest in Europe, and currently the biggest in the Balkans.
