Victoria Australia Airport Pack

Thank you for downloading this scenery package that I have prepared using Airport 2.6, build 140.

This package is intended to cover all of the Authorised Landing Area’s (ALA) and Aerodromes that I, as a private pilot have flown into over the years I have held my PPL and some I have not.

The airfields I have included here are

·        Moorabbin (YMMB) à Australia’s 3rd busiest airport. This version adds Taxiways, aprons, helipads, and buildings to the default FS2002 Airport. It does NOT fix the problem of the default control tower sitting on RWY 31R!! What it does have is, all taxiways, buildings (generic Airport ones to keep frame rates optimal), Street lighting, and trees. In the future I hope to add gates to this airport so as to facilitate FS2002 AI Traffic.

Figure 1: My Version of Moorabbin (YMMB) on the left, and on the right the real YMMB (before RWY 04/22 was shortened).

·        Point Cook (YMPC) à The world’s oldest continually operating Air force Base. This version also adds Taxiways, aprons and buildings to the default FS2002 Airport.

·        Geelong (YGLG) à Situated on the southern side of the city (Grovedale).

·        Lovely Banks à Is situated on the northern side of Geelong.

·        Avalon East (YAVE) à used for the Australian International Air show held biannually, in February 2003. It is a temporary airport used exclusively for this weekend. Info & operating procedures can be found at www.airshow.net.au. Here are some pictures (these were taken from a video camera):

·        Melton (YMEL) à West of Melbourne INTL (YMML).

·        Bacchus Marsh (YBSS) à North of Avalon (YMAV).

Figure 4: Both the real (Left) and the Virtual Bacchus Marsh Aerodromes (Right).

·        Kyneton (YKTN) à Nice little airfield to fly into.

·        Tyabb (YTYA) à Home of several warbirds & home to warbird restoration “teams”. The airport in this package is not at its correct location (not by much though), it is made to “fit” the FS2002 scenery.

·        Porepunkah à This airfield is situated at the base of Mt Buffalo, it is a “one way” strip due to its gradient. Thus, only landing to the south & take off to the north is permitted. In the version here I have had to use the flatten function to get the airport to work properly.

·        Raywood à Home of the Bendigo Glider Club and 12 Miles north of Bendigo (YBDG).

·        Bendigo (YBDG) à Adds Buildings etc to the default airport. This is my home airport that I regularly fly from.

·        Melton (YMEL) à This is an updated version for FS2002 from a previous release for FS2000.

·        Mildura (YMIA) à Situated in the North Western corner of Victoria. I have added Taxiways and some buildings. QANTAS, Hazelton and Kendell airlines have daily RPT services using DASH8’s and SAAB 340’s to Melbourne (YMML).

·        Mount Beauty (YMBT) à is situated in the Kiewa Valley virtually at the base of Victoria’s highest peak (Mt Bogong). Beware of high terrain around this airstrip!

·        Tooradin (YTDN) à located in southern Victoria approx 20nm east of Tyabb (YTYA). This scenery has been updated to current information, thus it now has two runways.

·        Benambra 1 and 2 à Located on the other side of the Bogong High plains to that of Mt Beauty and an approx 20 min flight from Mt Hotham. I have not flown here but the information I have used to create this for Fs2002 puts this in some of the most picturesque scenery available in Aust.

·        Sunbury (Penfield) (YPEN) and Riddell’s Creek (YRID) à these two aerodromes are located just north of Melbourne (YMML) and are primarily used for ultralight aircraft training. You will see them on the right if you are making an approach into Rwy 16 at YMML (just past Fentons Hill VOR). These are part of three aerodromes in close proximity to each other, the third Romsey; I currently have no information about. Penfield is marked by a group of Pine trees planted to read “Penfield” when viewed from above – I have tried to do this and it has come out not too bad!!

·        Woodvale à This ALA is/was 15nm north west of Bendigo (YBDG), it has recently closed and re-converted to a wheat farm.

·        There WILL be more to follow soon!

The following airports were contributed by Mr. Stephen Melis:

·        Colac (YOLA)

·        Millawa (YILA) à This is the Brown Brothers Winery Airstrip S.E. of Wangaratta in Victoria. Yes you can fly in for a “boozer” here

·        Cobden (YCDE)

·        Apollo Bay (YAPO)

·        Robe (YRBE) à This airstrip is in South Australia

Thank you Stephen for providing the information on these airports, and for updating my information on Tooradin!!!!!

REQUIREMENTS

·        MS Flight Sim 2002.

·        Airport & VOD textures installed in the FS2002\Texture Directory.

·        Patience to install all of this.

·        Also there is 1 extra Texture file that may be installed if the Airport and VOD textures fail to show. This is located in the FS2k2 Texture Folder upon extraction of this archive.

YOU NEED TO DO THE FOLLOWING:

1.     Make sure Fs2002 is NOT open/running at the time of installation.

2.     Extract the archive to a temporary folder on your Hard Drive. For Example: C:\Temp\

3.     Upon doing this there will be this file, file_id.diz and THREE folders (Read me Files,  Scenery and FS2k2 Texture).

4.     Open the Scenery folder (e.g. using Windows Explorer) and COPY/MOVE the contents to the “ADDON SCENERY\SCENERY\” in the FS2002 main folder (e.g. C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Fs2002\ADDON Scenery\Scenery).

5.     If some of the grass textures fail to show correctly, copy/move the file “abgrass.r8” into the FS2002/Texture folder from the FS2k2 Texture folder within this archive.

6.     No flatten and exclude entries are need for the “scenery.cfg” file for this add on package.

7.     Run Fs2002 and it will set up the scenery and then you can fly there!!

NOTE!!

1.     All airports are fully compatible with FS2002.

2.     This scenery package is not meant to be artistically brilliant, but to give a faithful as possible rendition of what it is like to fly to these aerodromes – whilst being frame rate friendly!!

3.     An apparent bug with constructing Taxiways etc with Airport 2.6 is that asphalted Taxiway surfaces behave like dirt/grass areas, when you taxi on them (does not happen with the runways). Thus, some add on aircraft may suffer failure’s with the undercarriage. Sorry, but I am not responsible for this, but it is a question for the developers of Airport 2.6 (a fine tool indeed). You can see this by using the default Cessna’s – the undercarriage moves like crazy!! (looks good though).

4.     All of the aprons that are of asphalt surface have been “hardened” by the use of a new feature in Airport 2.6. When this feature can be applied to taxiways – the package will be rebuilt to suit.

5.     The Scenery has been built around the Australian Terrain Mesh Package available from http://www.satpac.pcsa.net.au/ , but it should work equally as well with the default scenery.

6.     All airports have an “AFD” entry and an “Initial Location” so that they may be selected by Region à Country à City à Airport in the “Go To Airport” function, or by Selecting “FS 5 Scenery or before”.

7.     This archive is set to extract to  ..\Scenery\ by default.

8.     This archive is FREEWARE ONLY. NO COMMERCIAL GAIN BY ANYONE IS ACCEPTABLE. YOU MAY HOWEVER, BACKUP THIS ARCHIVE TO A CD THAT IS FOR PERSONAL USE ONLY.

9.      The author of this package is in no way liable for any damage it may cause from incorrect use (however unlikely that it may be).
