1. MANY THANKS...

To William R. Call for all of his work and inspiration, taking on the task of creating the textures for a United States Naval version of the Hornet. Please check out Williams Sunliners document for more information.

Jamal Ingram, who's Hornet expertise, advice and information (...and support) prompted the reworking of the hornet model and addition of new models. Many e-mails and sleepless nights I think has contributed to the success of this latest model.

2. HORNET UPDATES:

-improved visual model
-narrowed tail area and more accurate nacelles
-lighting improvments with added light glow
-improved landing gear retraction/extension
-wing tip navigation and strobe lights
-forward wing slats...flap activated

4. HORNET PANEL:

I'll take this opportunity to highly recommend a "must have" panel for the full Hornet experience, an F-18 Hornet panel that is second to none, created by Vanessa Leightower(f18pan2k.zip) - I've gone so far as relegating my own panel to that dark region on my hard drive where I keep files just in case I may use them again.

**********************************************************************

5. AIRCRAFT OPERATION (things to know):

-flaps key (F5-F8) extend/retract flaps and forward wing slats
-landing gear key (G) extend/retract landing gear
-spoilers - air brake (...and tail hook if aircraft is carrier landable) extend/retract with (/) spoiler key

*air file inclcludes force feedback parameters for those that use force-feedback sticks.

*on carrier able hornets, deploying the tail hook (/ - spoiler key) will drop you like a stone if your in the air...spoiler value is extremly high to simulate an on deck grab at the wire, so remember not to hit spoiler key until you've touched down (...makes things interesting if you miss the wire!!!)

**********************************************************************

6. INSTALLATION:

*After unzipping the main zip file, place the hornet's main folder into your FS aircraft directory.

The path and files should look somethin' like this...

C:\ ***
       \microsoft games
		       \fs2000
			       \aircraft
					 \**hornet model**
					        \model
                                                \panel
                                                \sound
                                                \texture

*This aircraft comes with a default FS2K panel. You can find my own simple panel for this aircraft (cf188pnl.zip), or for a more detailed and advanced panel try Vanessa Leightower's F-18 panel (f18pan2k.zip) from www.simviation.com, or www.flightsim.com.

That's it! Start up fs2000 and start flying!

7. CREDITS/SOURCE:

William R. Call, for taking on the daunting task of labouring through fitting textures to the model. Thanks so much William for motivating me to recreate the hornet to best showcase your U.S.N. textures.

Thanks again go out to a Marine for all occasions...Jamal Ingram, thanks for your invaluable information and technical advice on the Hornet and its ordinance, with his help and support I was able to come as close in accuracy as possible.

Mike Reyno, for his photographs that formed the basis of this fabulous series of aircraft. (I tried to get in touch with him through the Canadian Forces website without luck, so I will take this opportunity to thank him for the work he has done with his beautiful photos. They served as wonderful inspiration for these simulator hornets). You can see his work through the Canadian Airforce Web Site listed below.

Canadian Forces website and archives for their extensive gallery of photographs and wealth of general organizational and technical information and resources. www.airforce.dnd.ca

RCAF Wings For Freedom - Royal Canadian Air Force homepage for their beautiful and extensive site (also a wealth of invaluable information and resources). www.rcaf.com

4 Wing Cold Lake, Tactical Fighter (Operational Training) "The Cougars" Squadron website, an abundance of resource information pertaining to the squadron and their pivotal role in Armed Forces Operations. www.4wing.coldlake.dnd.ca

The Encyclopedia of Modern War Planes - General Editor: Bill Gunston, technical data and three-views.

And finally, thanks to the best flight simulation sites on the web, allowing designers and creators to spread their wings. You can find these files (and more...waaaay, way more!!!) at the best flight simulation sites on the web:
