Ŀ
 Synopsis/Introduction

Project BookRead is a program my wife and I started to help promote
reading, literacy, and education. The response to our efforts were
overwhelming. As a result, we have had several requests for a program
that could organize the books. Like the books, the Librarian is also
FREEWARE.

The Librarian is the product of that research. It has the ability to
alphabetize the books while intellegently ignoring noise words "THE" and
"A" in the title.

This program is NOT designed to be used if you have just a handful of
books. It was designed for large scale usage with a capacity of 182,000
books.

Please note this software is currently beta. There are two types of
installations. Choose the one appropriateto your needs.

Ŀ
 Installation of the Librarian

Ŀ
 Local Usage/Non BBS Usage

The NON BBS version of the Librarian (LIBVIEW henceforth) will run on
any system quickly and easy.

Put LIBVIEW.EXE into your books directory.

Next, make a text file called LIBRARY.CFG in the same directory as
LIBVIEW.EXE. This file contains one or more paths of the locations of
the books. Below is an example:

    d:\books\set1\
    d:\books\set2\

and so on. The trailing backslash (\) *IS REQUIRED*. The software will
*NOT* work properly with out it.

Next unzip the books into each of the directories listed in the CFG
file. You can organize the alphabetically or by set or group by author
or however convient to you.

After all of the books are done, type the below:

    LIBVIEW AUTOSCAN

This will scan for the books and index them. You may use this command
as opten as you wish to add books. Just put the books in the
appropriate directories and away you go.

Now that the books are installed, all you have to do to start the system
is type:

    LIBVIEW

Thats it! LIBVIEW is ready to use...

Ŀ
 Bulletin Board Usage

The librarian is easy to install. The Librarian (LIBRARY from
henceforth) works with any BBS that supports DORINFO1.DEF as a drop file
format.

Special note to NorthStar systems:
this software is an OPTIONAL means of installing the books. Remember
that NorthStar can handle up to 1 million commands. The usage of
this program will eliminate your ability to make individual screens
for book sets or any single book.

The advantage this software offers NorthStar and other systems is
    automatic scanning for new books.

Special note to non-NorthStar systems:
The Librarian may be the only way your bulletin board package may be
    able to handle all books.

Put LIBRARY.EXE into your books directory. After you do this, delete
the BOOKREAD.EXE file. LIBRARY.EXE has everthing needed to read the
books.

Next, make a text file called LIBRARY.CFG in the same directory as
LIBRARY.EXE. This file contains one or more paths of the locations of
the books. Below is an example:

    d:\doors\books\set1\
    d:\doors\books\set2\

and so on. The trailing backslash (\) *IS REQUIRED*. The software will
*NOT* work properly with out it.

Next unzip the books into each of the directories listed in the CFG
file. You can organize the alphabetically or by set or group by author
or however convient to you.

After all of the books are done, type the below:

    LIBRARY AUTOSCAN

This will scan for the books and index them. You may use this command
as opten as you wish to add books. Just put the books in the
appropriate directories and away you go.

Now that the books are installed, all we have to do is add thew command
to the BBS. Follow the instructions of your software. Use the below
batch file as an example:

    @echo off
    rem
    rem locations of the EXE
    rem
    d:
    cd \doors\books
    rem
rem use the complete path and name of DORINFO1.DEF
    rem
    library y:\ns3\node-1\dorinfo1.def
    rem
rem the command(s) needed to restart the BBS (if any)
    rem
    exit

NorthStar systems may find the below easier (running LIBRARY direct and
not through a batch file):

    bring up CONFIG

    press "C" for FORUM CONFIGURATION

press "1" and enter from the category list

press "1" and enter to pick the forum template

    press "D" for COMMAND MENU

press "C" for EDIT COMMAND LIST

press "A" and enter for ADD

press "A" and enter for MENU COMMAND

type LIBRARY or your chosen command and press enter

be sure to set your security

    press "B" for EXECUTABLE LOCATION

press "A" for LOCATION OF EXECUTABLE

type the complete location. from the exmple above,
    D:\DOORS\BOOKS and press enter

press "B" for EXECUTABLE FILE NAME OF THIS COMMAND

    type LIBRARY and press enter

press "C" for COMMAND LINE ARGUMENTS

    type &DORINFO& and press enter

from here, just quit out of CONFIG. LIBRARY is automatically
    multi-node set from with-in NorthStar.

Thats it! LIBRARY is ready for use. LIBVIEW and LIBRARY can share the
same directories and .CFG file.
